Episode 41 - The Sword of Nine Tails
Tumblr media
NOT HIM GIVING THAT GUY A CUNTY STAREDOWN WHILE DRINKING FROM A TINY LITTLE TEACUP.
Anyway, I think that, this is a yet another instance of Kerubim trying to install, within Joris, a love for merchantship. And by god, it's working.
Tumblr media
Joris knows him well. Cute. :)
Tumblr media
Joris just screamed "THE SWORD IS FAKE?!" as loud as he could and is now watching the ensuing chaos with a satisfied little smile. Will his reign of evil ever be stopped? I genuinely think he loves this. Just like an adult, he only pretends to be normal. He knows what he did. He loves it and approves too. <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He LOVES it when people clap for Kerubim almost as much as the man himself does... He truly is god's strongest Kerubim apologism warrior.
Tumblr media
The text at the bottom is unreadable for me, besides the stray "L", "D", "U", and "C", but at the top it is "LEGENDES"
Tumblr media
I bet primitive ecaflips pack bonded with bow meows or something.
Tumblr media
Even though Lanceforge weren't yet a thing in the lore during this time, my gut reaction to this cave and that name is "IS THIS THE EVIL ISLAND FROM CIRE MOMORE?!?!?" and then I just start coughing up blood.
Tumblr media
I hauve Post-"Cire Momore Webtoon" Stress Disorder.
And guys, you want to read that comic, for free, on allskreen, soooooooooooooooo bad. Haha. This isn't analysis this is me telling you to go read this comic.
Tumblr media
Imagine being in love with an ecaflip person, but having an allergy to their fur. Wouldn't that be fucked. Wouldn't that be hellish.
Tumblr media
I love how that section nonchalantly transitions to show Kerubim buying this sword.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Handwriting is very hard to parse in this series.
Tumblr media
Truly, the flash frame of all time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speechless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruining other people's entire day is a good job well done.

Silver bottle ticket for a ships decanter, england c. 1790
The ticket was made for the Danish merchantship Providentia, but she was captured on 1 February 1801 by the Armed Cutter Dolly commanded by Lieutenant Seppings and taken to England as a prize.
However, her master Lars Onhammer sued against this, because he was only captain of a merchant ship under Danish flag and not in conflict with England. However, he had loaded Spanish wool, which Lieutenant Seppings took as an excuse to take the ship as a prize.
The court ruled in favour of Lieutenant Seppings, however, because the Providentia was carrying Spanish wool and was therefore a legal prize. I can't say what became of her, but she seems to have been sold.

Cargo tonnage It is a measure of the Freight -carrying capacity of a ship and is commonly used to assess fees for commercial shipping. The term derives from the taxation paid on tons or casks of wine.
Ocean freight is frequently billed on the basis of weight or measurement of tons. Weight tons can be expressed in terms of short tons of 2,000 pounds, long tons of 2,240 pounds, or metric tons of 1,000 kilograms.
Measurement tons are usually expressed as cargo measurements of 40 cubic feet (1.12 cubic meters) or cubic meters. The Measurements are calculated by multiplying your gravel's unit weight by its volume to find its weight W in pounds. = 1249 lbs. convert its weight in pounds to tonnage by dividing it by 2205.
It is not a reference to the weight of a merchant ship. It is an indication of a ship's size or cargo-carrying capacity and is used for assessing the duty or fee applicable for crew regulations, registration, port charges, and the like.

Eighty Years Ago, Today - (Thursday) February 11th, 1943: 11 miles south of Cape St. Francis, South Africa, U-516 (Type IXC) torpedoes and sinks the British steamer "SS Helmspey" (Photo 1). Tea, rubber, and precious manganese iron ore go with her to the bottom. Four men are killed, and a fifth dies after rescue, with 41 Survivors. Meanwhile, in the Mediterranean, 29 miles east of Protaras, Cyprus, U-81, a Type VIIC (Photo 2) wipes out a small flotilla of sailing vessels. With her deck gun, she sinks three in 20 minutes: "Al Kasbanah" (Egyptian), "Dolphin" (British Palestinian), and "Husni" (Lebanese). (Casualties unspecified) Shortly thereafter, she bags the Egyptian "Sabah el Kheir" as well. (Casualties unspecified). Prayer begins and ends Captain Krause's day aboard the USS Greyhound as he leads a convoy of merchant ships across the Atlantic in 1942. Relentlessly attacked by U-Boats it is not prayer that miraculously keeps Krause (Tom Hanks) safe - prayer rarely works like that, and there would have been men equally praying on the ships and German submarines that were sunk - but it is prayer the helps make him who he is - a man of compassion, wisdom, humility and fortitude. Prayer connects us to the Divine, allowing God to work in our lives and share Her/His strength with us. Greyhound is a traditional war film with great visuals and lots of tension. But it also manages not to glorify war or jingoism and is solidly held together by Hanks' powerful display of grace under pressure. I also admire it's depiction of faith and prayer as a quiet but natural element of men's lives. What ever you are going through today I pray you may feel close to God too and that His/Her love may give you strength and peace. Amen. . . . . . . #greyhound #ussgreyhound #greyhoundmovie #greyhoundfilm #tomhanks #ww2 #merchantship #merchantships #convoy #atlanticocean #atlanticconvoys #atlanticconvoy #uboat #germanuboat #submarine #prayer #prayers #faithandfilm #filmandtheology #filmandfaith #faith #divine #God https://www.instagram.com/p/CCgjDfHFBoW/?igshid=3irebs3brdwp

What’s more interesting than a building you don’t understand at first sight? While driving along the riverdikes along the Hollandsche IJssel between Nieuwerkerk and Capelle, we stumbled upon this strange stone walls. At first sight they looked and felt like castle ruins. But the embrasures were placed at very strange heights. While we tried to uncover it’s mysteries, we noticed three similar structures were placed next to it, each about ten meters apart from each other. At the last one we found an information panel. In the 17th en 18th century stone bricks were baked at this site. Near this spot clay was abundant and these buildings actually were ovens and the embrasures were used to shove the clay bricks in the oven and heat them. These bricks then were used as ballast in the large wooden merchantships of the West- and East India Companies. In the colonies the bricks were used to make large fortresses, such as Fort Negombo in Ceylon or Kasteel De Goede Hoop in current Capetown, South Africa. Also churches and Synagoges were build. In Manhattan these bricks were used to build Fort Amsterdam, which would become the famous Fort George after Nieuw-amsterdam would become New York. One ship would need about 130.000 bricks as ballast. These IJsselsteentjes can be still found in buildings in Oman, Sri Lanka, Dutch Antilles, Surinam, India, Indonesia and Australia. This really was history found! #voc #wic #nieuwerkerkaandenijssel #capelleaandenijssel #verenigdeoostindischecompagnie #westindischecompagnie #goudeneeuw #srilanka #ceylon #india #australia #brasil ##suriname #nederlandseantillen #newyork #nieuwamsterdam #manhattan #fortgeorge #negombo #kasteeldegoedehoop #capetown #southafrica #suidafrika #eropuit #eropuitineigenland #bestofthenetherlands #ruins #eropuitmetkinderen #historyfound (bij Klein Hitland, Steenovens)

In 1836, Heinrich Schweich observed that all physiological processes produce electricity, and proposed that an electrical disturbance of the atmosphere may prevent the body from discharging it. He repeated the then-common belief that the accumulation of electricity within the body causes the symptoms of influenza. No one has yet disproven this.
[...]
If influenza is primarily an electrical disease, a response to an electrical disturbance of the atmosphere, then it is not contagious in the ordinary sense. The patterns of its epidemics should prove this, and they do.
For example, the deadly 1889 pandemic began in a number of widely scattered parts of the world. Severe outbreaks were reported in May of that year simultaneously in Bukhara, Uzbekistan; Greenland; and northern Alberta. Flu was reported in July in Philadelphia and in Hillston, a remote town in Australia, and in August in the Balkans.
This pattern being at odds with prevailing theories, many historians have pretended that the 1889 pandemic didn’t “really” start until it had seized the western steppes of Siberia at the end of September and that it then spread in an orderly fashion from there outward throughout the rest of the world, person to person by contagion. But the trouble is that the disease still would have had to travel faster than the trains and ships of the time.
It reached Moscow and St. Petersburg during the third or fourth week of October, but by then, influenza had already been reported in Durban, South Africa and Edinburgh, Scotland. New Brunswick, Canada, Cairo, Paris, Berlin, and Jamaica were reporting epidemics in November; London, Ontario on December 4; Stockholm on December 9; New York on December 11; Rome on December 12; Madrid on December 13; and Belgrade on December 15.
Influenza struck explosively and unpredictably, over and over in waves until early 1894. It was as if something fundamental had changed in the atmosphere, as if brush fires were being ignited by some unknown vandal randomly, everywhere in the world...
Influenza works its caprice not only on land, but at sea. With today’s speed of travel this is no longer obvious, but in previous centuries, when sailors were attacked with influenza weeks, or even months, out of their last port of call, it was something to remember.
In 1894, Charles Creighton described fifteen separate historical instances where entire ships or even many ships in a naval fleet were seized by the illness far from landfall, as if they had sailed into an influenzal fog, only to discover, in some cases, upon arriving at their next port, that influenza had broken out on land at the same time.
Creighton added one report from the contemporary pandemic: the merchantship “Wellington” had sailed with its small crew from London on December 19, 1891, bound for Lyttelton, New Zealand. On the 26th of March, after over three months at sea, the captain was suddenly shaken by intense febrile illness. Upon arriving at Lyttelton on April 2, “the pilot, coming on board found the captain ill in his berth, and on being told the symptoms at once said, ‘It is the influenza: I have just had it myself.’”
An 1857 report was so compelling that William Beveridge included it in his 1975 textbook on influenza: “The English warship Arachne was cruising off the coast of Cuba ‘without any contact with land.’ No less than 114 men out of a crew of 149 fell ill with influenza and only later was it learnt that there had been outbreaks in Cuba at the same time.”

smelly frog man.
Tumblr media
Hmm... That is quite an original one. I might as well resign my merchantship and give up being a “smelly frog man,” as you said, as your insult had quite a sting!
Tumblr media
That was a joke, of course! Viva la Zacharie!
