I feel people need to keep in mind that for the past 3000+ years, Mephisto had Inarius torture beyond human comprehension both physically and psychological; refining his anger, his hate to what we see today; a very broken angel that just wants to go home by any means necessary.

Momma Lilith and daddy Inarius are, once again, at each others throats, bby Rathma is fucking dead and in the midst of all that pop-pop Mephisto is out here living his best life as his fursona. That's amazing...It's awful, but it's great U・ᴥ・U

If there's one thing I didn't have on a D4 bingo sheet, it was Mephisto Fursuitor Extraordinaire. Honestly though good for him. Living his best life, getting belly-rubs and table scraps.

What a family tho right? Seriously, Diablo is just the story of one family messing up absolutely everything for everyone. And that family is Mephisto's. Him, his brothers, his daughter + her fucked up husband, their weird gremlin child. His neice is the only normal one, and poor Leah got wrapped up in it all anyway.

Brumaltides must be a real hoot.

This just gives more credence to my theory that Diablo 5 is going to be about Baal's daughter tho. 3 was about Diablo's. 4 was about mephisto's. By Three They Come.

On the other side, we have Inarius and his brother Tyrael, both of whom have done a stellar job of Creating Chaos. If one of them isn't stealing the Worldstone, the other is blowing it up. If one of them is trying to preserve humanity, the other is ending it. I'm like 89% sure they're both dead now, and much as I love them maybe the world will finally know a bit of peace and quiet without the Shenanigan Brothers running around putting things into soulstones and burning villages down.

All in all, Rathma has one hell of a family. I can't even blame him for running away to live in a crypt. Just look at his parents, the snake is definitely the better guardian to raise a child here.

Now that I finished the campaign yesterday, I have to say I really enjoyed it. Spoiler: I wish I could have said something to Lilith at the end, it felt so wrong to be silent. Ohh and I also liked her transformation as she looked more like her father, I think it really looked so cool! (I wish we had a cutscene with her like that).

I felt sorry for both Inarius and Lilith. I see a lot of hatred for Inarius, and yes, he kind of deserved it, even though he was tortured for millennia (in the realm of hatred where normal people go nearly insane within minutes to hours) and just wanted to go home. It's so twisted that his greatest desire is to return to the people who abandoned him. I wish Tyreal was here.

In my opinion, the part of the prophecy that says "a spear of light will pierce the heart of hate" could also be interpreted as Lilith piercing Inarius with his own spear. He had become so hateful towards Lilith and Sanctuary in general.

I really think Lilith loved her children, specifically the firstborn generation. Maybe that does not count so much for the humans today. She says, "I have not come to save, but to impower, in my shadow the strong shall oppose the power of hell itself, the weak shall defend themselves." (Or something like that) If her "motherly love" is only for those strong enough to be by her side when she sets out to conquer hell, and the rest can fuck off and "fend for themselves," then I think her values and motivations are pretty clear. If she evaluates her children only on the basis of "How useful is this child in conquering hell?" then that has very little to do with motherly love and everything to do with the desire to win the conflict and become the most powerful entity.

I love Dogphisto Mephisto played us like a fiddle. Tho we didn't really have a choice, did we? The Devil you know and all that.

Heavy Voice - Diablo 4

I want it out there and on the record that I have known since the first days of the Open Beta that the weird half-dead wolf character was Mephisto. That's a legitimately proud moment I have as a lore enthusiast. The rune carved into his skull was a dead giveaway, appearing in the Book of Adria as a symbol connected to Mephisto. And boy... was it.

I just wanted to make this comic to say that I think Mephisto's voice just doesn't fit in D4. Do not get me wrong, it is an awesome voice, it is powerful, malevolent as all hell, and there is just a soft gurgling undertone to it that brings it all together. Steve Blum is the man! But my guy, I picture a body behind that voice that has actual weight to it. Have you seen Mephisto? He's a literal bone collection, he probably weighs less than a skinny adult human! I am convinced the VA was cast for the wolf, not Mephisto's real appearance. The strangest part is that Mephisto had the perfect voice in the past!

No, not Diablo 2.

Diablo 3! Listen! I have always loved this voice, every time I find this lore entry during a playthrough, I am so happy to listen to him! It's not a weighty voice, it sounds old, which fits because Mephisto is the eldest among all the demons, the Firstborn of Tathamet, basically. And to me it sounds like a cunning evil, especially with his last sentence being "Some battles can only be won with words". Now can a voice like this carry an entire main-entry game with him as the second big bad? A good question, I honestly have no idea. Maybe it really would not work on the long run, but certainly they could have found something closer to this than the Bass King in D4.

Okay but then why do I like Malthael's voice? That's incredibly deep too, and the guy looks like two french fries duck-taped together.

Well, first of all, Malthael is not that skinny actually. He appears so because of his design (which is genius, btw), but if you've tried to learn to draw him well, you realize he has some meat under that armor. I am certain he is what one might call a "sleeper build". Second, it's kind of hard for me to put it into words, but Malthael's voice has an empty echo-y subtone and feel to it that makes it far less weighty in my ears (and also shows just how far he has fallen). I don't know, does that make sense?

Either way, that was my deep dive into the Diablo franchise VA scene, thank you for coming to my TED talk! I still am very much looking forward to Vessel of Hatred, and to finally murder Mephisto once again as well. I don't hate him as much as Lilith, but I am sure he will earn it by the end of the story, whenever that will be.

Edit: Yes i know for diablo and baaal there actual true “animal forms” are different (i think something about an owl and a one winged bat????). However I find that sorta.... blah.... and find it much funnier of them taking the forms of cute animals (chucky in diablo case) and thus pics above are the only headcanon I will accept.
