When her boyfriend had invited her to meet his friends, Melike had been hesitant. This was not her world, it was Julian’s, and she was scared that she would be this fish out of water, but it was by far not as bad as she thought it was going to be. The lake house was big and beautiful, like a scenery from a movie scene, and it was surely helping to soften the blow of some comments she got. No one was bold enough to say anything to her face, but as a girl who moved to the states age 7 who barely spoke a word for the first months or even a year, she knew the looks of those who would go on to whisper horrible things behind her back, but with Julian’s arm around her waist and his loving gaze meeting her eyes, she knew she could conquer the world. And then hell broke loose with blood splattered on the wall and floor, dead bodies scattered around the rooms. Her survival instinct kicked in, desperately trying to get away. It was when she saw Julian running upstairs, and when she expected to see panic on his face, she sees the expression that tells her he has a plan. So Melike follows him up the stairs, hoping that he had some plan. Maybe a place as expensive as this had a way out or a safe room where they could hide until the police would show up. Heavy footsteps are following right behind her… and then she hears how the door is shut in her face. “Julian…what?!?”, her voice was hoarse, trying to open the door before she heard how he pushed some furniture in front of the door, not even acknowledging the fact that she was right there on the other side of the wooden door. When that realization was truly sinking in, she sunk to the floor, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. How could a man who claimed he wanted her to meet his parents, a man who spoke of a future, a wedding and maybe even children. What a loving and protective father and husband he would have been. Her thoughts were spinning and her heart aching when the presence of someone demanded her to come back to reality, staring at the mask that covered their face.
