Hey Poro. I don't recall you ever talking about your Tav. Do you have any posts about them or any cool info you wanna share? (Saw you were open to asks, so I thought I'd drop one hæhæ)

Oh yes, hello! I guess you're right. And that although she's the Tav in most all of my stories (especially my longform fics).

So let me introduce my wonderful girl to you. And yes: her name is indeed just Tav. Don't come for me - I didn't plan for any of this but now here we are. I am just Poro and she is just Tav.

I'm always happy about questions about my girl tho - I do have a background story and all flashed out for her. I just... never talked about it??

More about her personality and backstory below the cut!

Personality: She's witty, rebellious, will stab you if the need arises or pickpocket all your gold if you're mean to her. But she still believes that there's ultimately good in the world. A hope that sometimes makes her take stupid and naive risks. And never has she experienced a love like she has with Astarion - and she's sure she'll never will again. Might be it started as a silly crush because she never experienced someone giving her this kind of attention, but now... She'd kill for him and die for him - although she'd very much prefer the first.

Story: Tav was the daughter to a loveless affair of a very high-up wood elf noble, her father, and her high-elf mother from Baldur's Gate. Immediately abandoned by her mother after birth on the steps of a cloister in the city where she spent the first few years of her life. A life where she was treated harshly from the very first steps on she could take. So still being a child, she fled the abuse and started to live on the streets of Baldur's Gate where she not only had to grow up quickly but learn how to be proficient with sleight of hand, stealth and running away as fast as possible when the former two skills weren't enough. She always did what it takes even though it meant making objectively stupid decisions. She's hardened, cold, with a sharp tongue and violent if need be to those she perceives as a threat because you had to be if you didn't want to be taken advantage off as a woman. But this also means she's made herself unapproachable, so never really has she experienced someone giving her attention for anything but her skillset, complimenting her, wooing her. But to those she perceives as her friends or close ones she's a helpless people-pleaser and pushover rising from a desperate desire to not be left alone again; deeply believing she's only worth as much as she can be of use. She joined a band of thieves for which she and her friends she found there took on highbrow heists - until the day Tav was taken and a parasite in her brain but much more a sassy vampire shook her and her beliefs to the core.

A few more funfacts:

the piercings she has, she's done herself (thank the gods she didn't die of an infection

the tattoos she has she had done very young when she felt rebellious after she first found out about her real father - back then she thought it would make her look fierce; now she knows it was a little stupid but they're a part of her now; Astarion likes to let his thumbs run along them and calls her his "little fiend"

her main role during her thieving times was stakeout and keeping an eye on the others from above with her bow - during long and boring stakeout times she picked up drawing as a hobby: she just drew what she saw, so she could keep an eye on stuff but also busy herself

the scar is from her time when she first fled the cloister and joined a group of street kids (all boys) and she was repeatedly forced to show how brave she was; always having to be at least twice as couragous as the others just to make up for her being a girl

she has a definite problem with authorities

and she could probably drink you under the table

she's not good at taking care of herself, so Astarion calls her his street cat - and has to teach her a thing or two about self-care

Like I mentioned in Saoirse's bio, she defeated the Absolute alongside her sister and the crew.

Before the Nautiloid ship, she was a Professor of Storm Sorcery Practices at Balur's Magic Academy.

She also taught Elven History and Elven Weaponry electives.

She was is admired for her holistic approach to teaching and was often a big support to her students growth beyond magic.

She adopted Ranger techniques into her Sorcery. She loves being outdoors and using Elven bows helped her defeat the Absolute.

She has a very grounded personality and likes to have time to process information before she acts on it.

While Saoirse was great for wit and charisma, Maeve made more of the tougher decisions.

She and Rolan always had feelings but didn't act on it until months after the Absolute was taken down.

Like Saoirse, she is estranged from her father. Maeve took their estrangement the hardest.

Story: formerly a powerful sorcerer in the serve of Lloth, Eclavrene became Evie once she left Menzoberranzan and eloped with a half elf Paladin of Lathander named Loethyr. In the eight years of their marriage, Evie’s mother, a powerful Matriarch, never stopped hunting for her only daughter.

After her mother’s scouts assassinate Loethyr, Evie goes on the road, bouncing from place to place and killing every Drow that tries to find her. Until, as she’s hiding from a group of scouts near Amn, she is whisked away by the nautiloid and tadpoled.

During her adventure fighting the rise of the Absolute and her own villains, she gains a best friend in Shadowheart, as both of them grapple with their escape from control of a dark goddess.

Philrath, the Half-Dragon

Hello everyone, while I'm writing the next chapter, I thought I'd show a little bit of Philrath, the OC who co-stars in the story, and my Tav in the game!

Race and Appearance: Philrath is a White Half-Dragon, children of dragons with humanoid races, usually humans and elves. Unlike Dragonborns, Half-Dragons are literally children of dragons, inheriting characteristics from them, but also from their parent's non-dragon races. They usually end up being an amalgamation of the two breeds, with certain characteristics. They are hybrids, just like animals in the real world, and are therefore infertile. Philrath has an elven body, white hair, with turquoise blue highlights. His skin is fair, with freckles on his face. He has white horns, with slight bluish tips on his head. She has white scales on her face, and on the rest of her body, in places such as: Back, Shoulders and Legs. Her eyes are yellow with these draconic pupils, which have a certain glow in the dark. I like to imagine that she would have fangs, very small, even though this doesn't exist in the game, it's a characteristic that I like to think about.

Class, Alignment and Combat:

Philrath was initially born in my game as a ranger, but I chose to leave her secondary class as a bard, and that ended up being canonical in my story. So, she is a bard who seeks to bring joy to people, with songs, or with actions. Still, the patrol class is not there for nothing. She is very connected to nature, not as much as a druid, but she understands it in a way that benefits her. She uses Speak to Animals a lot to get advantages and to help the poor animals, protecting them from people's evil. She also uses her ranged attacks to help the team, always giving buffs to her companions (cough cough, Astarion, cough), healing them when needed and being deadly when necessary. Philrath as a Half-Dragon transforms into one, being small at first, but growing as he matures and expands his powers, understanding them better. This in gameplay is well... Overpower, but I always dosed it to only use it when it was NECESSARY (hello, Cazador???), so as not to ruin the gameplay. And in history this was cool, it was as if she was afraid to use her powers, and let them emerge as the journey became more difficult. In the end, for her group, she turned into a deadly white dragon, which freezes everyone in its path.

Her Alignment changed A LOT, as my perception changed. At first she was definitely Lawful-Good, trying to be a good person. However, in act 1 she performed very... Chaotic acts. In act 2 I would already put her in Neutral-Good, and in 3 she is certainly a Chaotical-Good or even Neutral-Neutral. My explanation for this was two: The Journey and its Dragon Side. Baldur's Gate's journey is not an easy one, and she has made chaotic and desperate decisions for the good of herself and the group, yet never evil ones. She helped the Tieflings, saved the Nightsong, helped Halsin, was always respectful to Jaheira and let very few die. For her companions, she is a hero, but Philrath doesn't see herself that way. She killed the hunter Guur, she killed all the goblins, she was always aggressive when necessary. But still, she forced Ketheric to seek to be better, not facing him in the end. But as many know, White Dragons are Chaotical-Evil, and she may have gotten that from her father, in part, which explains her impulsiveness in combat.

Personality and Romance:

Philrath is someone kind despite the problems I mentioned above, she understands that she can be dangerous, and that's why she prefers to stay away than to get attached, but at the same time, she is afraid of abandonment. She grew up without her biological parents, always seeing herself as strange. Even though she had a great adoptive father, these problems persist with her to this day. That's why she has her motto: "The Group stays together". Philrath never abandoned any of them, he always gave them the chance to improve and stay with it. She never judged, she doesn't see herself in such a position, after all, she doesn't think she's worthy. As a bard, she likes to make people happy, even if the reason is sad. It's a way for her to make people ignore her different appearance, deep down she hates how she looks, but she loves being who she is. She loves flying like a dragon, loves the powers, the feeling of strength. But she hates being different from other elves, being seen as a monster and a freak. Hence her identification with those who suffer, how would she judge someone, when she is judged all the time? Maybe it was the identification that hooked her. She saw herself in Astarion when he revealed himself to be a vampire, when he declared his fears, when he showed his marks and scars. His words (sometimes false) were comforting. As a Demisexual, she is attracted to the self, not the form. And the Astarion being was interesting. She would love to write more about the relationship, but then it would be fic (more than I've already done in this post). Who knows, maybe I won't do it in my fanfic. She stayed with Astarion until the end, but had a light kiss with Wyll in a moment of excitement during a dance. And she decided to start a relationship with Halsin. I always imagined the "Teddy Bear" as her teacher in transformation, it's cute, right? But she loves Astarion, and always will. A Half-Dragon and a Vampire is a couple odd enough to appeal to me!

What do I expect from Philrath in fanfic? I hope to be able to explore my Headcanons and address what the story of someone so unique would be like. A Half-Dragon would certainly have issues that Tav normally doesn't have in the game, some of which I mentioned above. In the end, I hope to be able to write everything in "Icy Serenade", my fanfic that focuses on Philrath and all the backstory power. I know, it's all silly and trippy. But this character became part of me, playing her was fun, and in the end she had a place in my heart that I didn't expect. It's crazy how such an INCREDIBLE game makes us get attached to the model we create... Philrath ended up having a lot of me, I'm Demisexual, I identified with the story of several characters in the game, and I was simply moved by see her, or rather they, as Non-Binary. Yes, I used "she" out of language and name custom, but Philrath is Non-Binary! She is Philrath! And it's okay to be called She, They or even "Astarion's Husband". She never saw herself as a real woman, just as she never saw herself as an elf or a dragon. She can be both, or neither. It can be "she", "he" or "they".

Disclaimer:

This race is obtainable in the game via MOD! It exists in d&d 5e, but it is not normally playable. The MOD(which is not mine!!) is based on an expansion of this race, with extra things and an expansion of its mythology. These clothes are from MOD too, I can share them all in the comments, for anyone who wants them. And yes, a lot of things up there are FIC/HC, after all, Tav is the character made for us to play with our imagination and create his story. And everything is fine! We all create this ourselves when we play games like this. And I had to add these details to make sense of a Half-Dragon out of nowhere in the game. But remember that the game itself places us as Dragonborn in the dialogues, since this limitation exists.

Fun Facts! Ryth shows affection via touch and gift giving. He's a big dumb boi, and getting head scratches is a comfort, so why not be a heavy nuisance? (Not counting Gale) Prime targets would be Astarion, Wyll, and Karlach (once her engine is mostly fixed). Ryth and Astarion, once they got past almost killing each other, would be fast friends and express that through snark, verbal arguments, and pretending they hate each other. Like siblings.

Ryth might give into the Durge every now and again, but he's also a big damn softy. This boi LOVES platonic affection, but oftentimes, it's weird or unconventional affection. He likes to put his head in someone's lap like a big cat and get head scratches. He definitely does a growly purr and makes little happy chirruping noises. He will absolutely lick blood off the teams faces without a second thought. He will gift weird things, bones, a nice rock, a mysteriously bloody artifact. It reminded him of you 💙 No shame about it either; he likes what he likes.

Without those pesky memories, he is a creature of comfort. His bedroll is actually just a nest of blankets and furs and whatever soft bits he could hoard away. He would 10/10 be down to cuddle puddle with the whole damn camp.

answering some questions posed by @corviiids (original post here) with my Tavs: Phlox (top; elf druidic ranger - romancing Gale), Casimir (bottom left; half-elf sorcerer durge - romancing Astarion), and Seylem (bottom right; tiefling rogue - romancing Wyll)

1. if they went to a modern-day university what would they get their bachelor's in and do they enjoy it?

Phlox would double major in Conservation Biology and Environmental Ethics - she adores protecting and caring for nature and animals and sharing that knowledge and care with others. Casimir would enter college unsure of what she wanted to study but would end up with a degree in Psychology purely because of a professor who continued to believe in her and helped guide her on her way. Seylem always dreamed of going into Law but had to drop out in her second year due to familial issues back home.

2. do they collect anything and what is it?

Phlox collects books - she is a big fantasy enjoyer and loved listening to Gale read her fairy tales when they were children. Casimir has a proud collection of animal bones and skulls, her favorite being a nearly perfect crow skull. Seylem has a button collection and was taught by her father how to sew them on clothes.

Phlox smells of lilac flowers after a rain shower. Casimir surprising loves smelling like vanilla and cinnamon. Having grown up near the docks of Baldur's Gate, Seylem usually smells of the ocean and salty sea breeze.

4. what mundane human job would they have in modern society to pay the bills and do they like it?

Phlox would be a forest ranger, educating folks about nature and working to conserve and protect it - she thrives in the outdoors! Casimir would be a mortician; she respects death and would want to help give folks peace before their forever resting place. Seylem would be a locksmith because she has mastered the art of lock picking; she would like to do more with her life someday.

When they were teenagers at a royal gala in Deergarde, Gale and Phlox shared their first kiss with each other and it was as awkward as young love kisses could be; their blushes burned so hot, they could put Karlach to shame. Since Casimir lost her memory of her life before the Nautiloid, her night with Astarion is the only first she considers; she's glad it was with him. Seylem doesn't remember who exactly her first kiss was with, but she does remember the coin pouch, the pocket watch, and the dagger she was able to pickpocket off of him during it.

Most Prized Possession: the acorn. you know the one

Deepest Desire: To remember their family from before they were taken to the cult. it's a desire they'll likely never be able to fulfill- they couldn't remember their mother & sibling even before the tadpole.

Guilty Pleasure: Eating just frosting. Gale taught them how to make it one day and they haven't been the same since. They experiment with different flavors and add-ins sometimes too.

Best-Kept Secret: There are definitely some things they've remembered that they haven't told anyone (yet) because either they're too ashamed or it's too painful. I think the raid/mission that directly broke them & resigned them to their lot as Bhaal's Chosen is one of those.

Greatest Strength: They're pretty good at recognizing when to be charming vs intimidating, when to use violence and when to at least try to talk their way out of a situation, etc. It's a skill they re-learned and honed over the course of the game.

Fatal Flaw: They're stubborn as hell and don't like to budge on their convictions and decisions, which is great when they're correct and really not great if they're not. And they can be careless with their words when arguing about said convictions and decisions, especially if they don't know the other person(s) involved or if they don't care that much about them.

Favorite Smell: wood smoke

Favorite Spell/Cantrip: Shocking Grasp for sure

Pet Peeve: Slow walkers who also take up the entire pathway for unclear reasons. They can deal with one or the other, but not both at the same time.

Bad Habit: Chewing their fingernails. Sometimes they'll wear down the nailbed so badly their fingers bleed. They swallow the nail

Hidden Talent: Weaving. They got really good at braiding while they were a teenager, practicing both on their hair and Orin's. It was calming to them, and they pretty quickly expanded to looms and more intricate plaits/knots/etc as a way to cope. Muscle memory meant they started doing it out of habit after getting off the nautiloid.

Leisure Activity: Gardening; stabbing the ground and pulling up weeds can be great ways to blow off steam. Also reading- they didn't exactly get much of an education, and what they did have they'd forgotten. They want to learn as much as possible

Favorite Drink: Hot chocolate, made half with cream & half with milk.

Favorite Food: hand pies, especially ones filled with sausage or beef. But they have to either make them themself or be certain whoever made them is telling the truth about the ingredients they used.

Favorite Person: Wyll, hands down.

Favored Display of Affection (Platonic or Romantic): Hair! Playing with it, brushing it, styling it, etc.

Fondest Childhood Memory: sitting on their bed, detangling and braiding Orin's hair when they were teenagers. They're sure they have some happy ones pre-Bhaal but all that's left of them is that inkling, no specifics.

Other: Their fashion sense was pretty bad when they got off the nautiloid. The others (especially Astarion and Shadowheart) stepped in pretty quickly to remedy that, which means most of their outfits in Acts I and II were picked out by their companions. They'd gained their footing by Act III but still made some...questionable color and cut decisions occasionally. It's unclear whether they've always been that way or if it was from their brain getting scrambled. Also, they bind sometimes! Whether or not they do depends on how they're feeling that day (physically & mentally), if it's practical, and if it goes with the vibes of that day's outfit(s).

Fun Fact: Wyll helped them cut their hair after the proposal!

Meet my Tav, Zaira! Class: Druid Race: Half Drow, half Elf Weapons: Staff, scimitar

An half drow with a very bad past, as she was born from violence. Cursed by the Matriarch of the house she was born in, the escape from the Underdark was rough but she managed to do that; later her appearance got her many problems before she could properly study the druidic arts with her master. Always prayed Sylvanus even though Lolth was always hunting her.
