Catching that Cinestill 800T glow with Hasselblad 500CM
I took out the Hasselblad loaded with a roll of Cinestill 800T to catch the light that bleeds beyond the edges as it does on a rainy night.
There are a couple of old-time diners around town and I figured they’d make good subjects, cliches be damned.
I like the results. I didn’t expect to be able to shoot into one of the diners, but I really like the mood of the lighting in the empty dining room.

Current restoration project: an Ihagee medium format folding camera. I'm not sure of the model. I've been inhaling a lot of rubbing alcohol & orange oil fumes today... Now I just need to check the bellows for light leaks, remove corrosion, and give it a fresh coat of paint.

"Packaged", 120 b+w film
For this shoot, I was inspired by the nature of online dating, specifically within the queer community. Apps such as Tinder, Scruff, and Grindr all rely on the advertisement of one's self in our profiles; We package ourselves into a series of photos and a bio that allows others to view if we are compatible or not. I took this idea and used cellophane to cover the foreground and my own nude body as a way of communicating the idea that we are 'packaged' up. Furthermore, the fingerprint marks that I pressed onto the 120 film are to signify the audience viewing my body.
I used a studio light, and two rolls of cellophane to wrap both my bedroom and my body to experiment with light and texture. Usually, my work is taken in public spaces or industrial/abandoned buildings but I wanted to create a set in my own room to practice 'performing for the camera' and use lighting and props to see how this affected the outcome of the image.

Tokens of My Father. Palladium prints, 2011
These images are a mix of prints made from negatives taken by my father and photos I myself shot of the Yashica medium format camera he used to make those negatives, as well as a knife he owned during the time he took those photos and which he later gave to me.
The woman in the images is my mother.

Back to black and white
I’ve posted a lot color images these past few weeks, but the majority of my work is in black and white. If I go out with one camera, it’ll be loaded with black and white film. If I have more than one camera on me, at least one will be loaded with black and white.
