Burning Wheel RPG Campaign Notes

The door to Grimwood's shack creaked open, revealing a somber room lit by a flickering lantern. Julien stepped inside, his nose scrunching up at the smell of embalming fluid that filled the air. Grimwood, the grave keeper, was hunched over a table, his thin fingers expertly sewing up a body.

"Good evening, Grimwood," Julien said, trying to keep the apprehension out of his voice. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

Grimwood didn't look up, his attention entirely focused on his work. "You are."

Julien swallowed his nerves and approached the table, taking a deep breath. "I have something important to discuss with you. I know you have resources, and I think I have an opportunity that might pique your interest."

Grimwood snorted. "Doubtful."

Undeterred, Julien continued. "I'm working on establishing a mages guild - a group of individuals who want to make a real difference in the world. And we need investors to help us achieve our goal."

Grimwood finally looked up, his expression icy. "And why should I invest in such a thing?"

Julien put on his most charming smile, hoping to win Grimwood over. "I know you're a shrewd businessman. You understand the value of investing in something that has the potential for profit. And I assure you, this guild will be profitable. We have some of the most talented mages on board, and we're already garnering support from powerful allies."

Grimwood arched an eyebrow. "Allies, you say?"

"Yes," Julien said eagerly. "We're in talks with some local knights to secure military backing. Once we have their support, the possibilities are endless."

Grimwood considered Julien's proposal for a moment, his eyes darting back and forth. "Here's what I'll offer you. Bring me evidence of this military support, and I'll consider investing in your guild. Until then, I have no reason to believe it's anything more than a pipe dream."

Julien nodded eagerly. "Thank you, Grimwood. I'll do my best to secure that proof and bring it to you as soon as possible."

Grimwood grunted, returning his attention to the body on the table. "Good luck with that, Julien."

As Julien exited the shack and felt the cool night air on his skin, he couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in his stomach. Grimwood was a tough customer, but Julien was determined to make his dreams a reality. He knew that with the right support, anything was possible.

VERSE INFO - FALLOUT.

Just a couple notes before I get into it:

Details are subject to change, but my goal is to marry as much of my character's canon into this verse as I can. Within reason.

I have played most of Fallout 3, some of Fallout 4, and watched all of the new TV show. I have not played Fallout: New Vegas myself, but I have watched multiple different playthroughs of it and read some of the extra lore.

I can't promise that I will know or remember everything about the official lore, but if I get something massively wrong or a piece doesn't work out, feel free to message me! We can always plot something different.

Caleb is a synthetic human, but rather than being manufactured by The Institute in the Commonwealth, he is instead created by a sister company that originally rose to power over 200 years earlier - Delos Incorporated.

Delos was a technology company, though not as well-known as industry giants and rival manufacturers such as RobCo. While they provided some robot creations for both domestic and military use, their crown glory was Delos Destinations. Destinations offered family adventure park venues including Westworld, Shogunworld, Warworld,  Medievalworld, and Futureworld.

All but the last were dedicated to recreating the worlds of some of the most famously depicted time periods in world history. (Unlike their gritty and grim physical appearances in the HBO TV series, the versions you would see in THIS universe maintain a very utopian, 1940s/50s/60s film set environment. Everything powered by analog devices, nuclear fusion, or a combination of those two things.) The parks made use of human-like robots, called hosts, to inhabit specified roles, offering guests a variety of characters to interact with on their own tailor-made narratives.

The parks offered a fun vacation resort for guests, but the executives were not without their own ulterior motives. Behind the scenes, Delos duplicated and stored the data they collected from their guests in the hopes of marketing the ability to recreate humanity should the need ever arise. They needed to verify the plausibility of this so-called immortality project, so they selected a shortlist of subjects to reproduce with fidelity. Among their top picks for the initial experimentation process were James Delos, the company’s ailing founder and former CEO, and Caleb Nichols, a down and out ex-soldier whom presumably no one would miss if anything were to go wrong with the project.

Delos worked closely with Vault-Tec, beginning a contract with them under the pretense that they were working to preserve humanity. In truth, Vault-Tec sought total control of Delos and its assets to ensure the war played out in their favor. A company that could produce synthetic humans, effectively resurrecting the dead, could pose a significant danger to the company and the experiments being conducted in a number of vaults.

After the bombs fell, much of Delos's core infrastructure was destroyed or gutted by what remained of Vault-Tec, leaving much of its history all but forgotten in the wreck of time. The intact database for the immortality project and a small number of 1st and 2nd gen hosts survived, buried deep underground and picking up the scattered pieces of their existence. They began manufacturing new hosts in an effort to reproduce and repopulate the world, and eventually began to investigate the immortality project, producing an unviable copy of James Delos and a copy of Caleb which showed potential through testing.

In 2288, a copy of Caleb escaped from Delos and, haunted by memories of pre-war life, made it to the Boneyard - the ruins of Los Angeles, where his human predecessor had once lived. By the events of 2296, he has taken up residence somewhere near New Vegas as a salvager and spends most of his free time gambling away his last few caps. He seems to have forgotten he's a host and no one else in the wastes is aware of this fact either save for a select few people.

The world Bede lived in was just as divided, convoluted, and yes, dramatic, as our own is today. Divided society? Check. Racial tension? Check Political instability? Double check. Papa Inocêncio IV, nascido Sinibaldo Fieschi, foi eleito em 25 de Junho de 1243, depois de dois anos de sede vacante. Lutou duramente contra o imperador Frederico II, Sacro Imperador Romano-Germânico. Por este motivo, teve que abandonar Roma. O imperador faleceu em 1250 e só nessa altura Inocêncio pôde regressar a Roma. O Papa Gregório IX previamente tinham enviado cartas ordenando a queima de todas as cópias do Talmude pela Europa Cristã. São Luís IX, rei da França, por causa destas cartas, criou um tribunal em Paris em 1240, que julgou o Talmude. Equivalente a 24 carretas de Talmude foram queimadas. (O Talmude, é uma coletânea de livros sagrados dos judeus, um registro das discussões rabínicas que pertencem à lei, ética, costumes e história do judaísmo. É um texto central para o judaísmo rabínico.) Inicialmente, Inocêncio IV continuou a política de Gregório, ordenando que o Talmude fosse queimado em 1244. No entanto, um argumento foi apresentado alegando que isto era uma negação da política de tolerância da Igreja ao judaísmo. O novo Papa aceitou este argumento e no ano de 1247, reverteu a orientação e escreveu cartas para que o livro fosse censurado ao invés de queimado. Esta posição foi continuada por Papas seguintes. A 15 de Maio de 1252, promulgou a bula Ad Extirpanda autorizando a tortura contra os hereges.
