been mulling over this post about chatgpt this afternoon (summary: some researchers put in questions they're currently researching and the AI spat out a seemingly logically coherent answer that was actually "horseshit," which the OP concluded was "scary")

my thing is that.... yeah, and people do the same thing constantly, often not even maliciously. a while ago i went to a scicom panel meant for the general public, where the scientists discussed the specific field of biology i work in. the thing was, these were scientists and science educators in general biology but NOT my specific field, and they got a lot of details wrong. they explained them in simplified, easy-to-follow ways which seem like they should make sense, unless you're IN THE FIELD and you've read all the work indicating this argument doesn't explain the observed phenomenon.

and i do, quite regularly, look at scicom and read/listen to people's discussions and comments online and in the meatworld about the field i'm in, and this happens more than you'd think. i don't think chatgpt being able to spit out quasi-academic arguments is a special unique problem, because people do it all the time.

Listening to Crown of Candy and Ravening War reminded of a THING I MADE back in like 2016 that now I want to rexplore.

Basically another plane exists that is made of two different substances-Candy and Meat and they eat each other respectively (Candy eats Meat, Meat eats Candy.) At some point the plateau of evolution happens where the Sweet Beasts outnumber, outsmart and out maneuver the meat creatures and basically consume them into extinction. Now facing essentially the loss of the one substance they eat; the apocalypse happens. Governments fall, Monarchies are now inert, it's The Starving Endtimes. Fortunately, there are creatures called 'Sugar Witches'-beings far different from the 'normal' Sweet folk. Their Magic allows them to create great monstrous creatures (Like Kondy Karn demons) and send them to different planes of reality to find New Meatworlds to be consumed.

This is a Kondy Karn; a type of sort of demon made by Sugar Witches designed to scout out these meatworlds and bring back meat substances. They are naturally very curious. They have humanoid intellect and are able to communicate clearly-and they are JUST as hungry as everyone else in the Candy Realm unafraid to take a bite out of someone before sending their cadavars back home. They are often covered in a sort of thin layer of 'soot' (Licorice Powder) when they are transported, making the bright colouring duller and more demonic looking.
