Maylia Fong (Singapore, To the Ends of the Earth)—I’m so so so into her brand of old Hollywood glamor Idk where even to Begin to describe ittttt
Elsa Lanchester (The Bride of Frankenstein, Bell Book & Candle)—we love cleft chin rep for women! gorgeous but in a way that made her stand out, and she should have been a leading lady much more than she ended up being. her turn in bride of frankenstein is iconic

Maylia Fong:
Elsa Lanchester:
The ultimate vintage weird girl crush!! Her performance in Bride of Frankenstein is captivating and iconic and mostly done with eyes (although she doubles as Mary Shelley at the start, which is also very sexy of her). Also she’s in a film where she tries to assassinate Hitler (it’s not great but she’s great in it, and that’s frankly iconic). Also the first few sentences of the ‘early life’ section of her Wikipedia are fascinating: Her parents were bohemian socialists who rejected traditional Edwardian marriage, and her brother owned a puppet company. Coming from that of course she was gonna be an icon.
“I found it rather glamorous to be a bastard.” -Elsa Lanchester
She is just so pretty??? Her eyes and face structure is both very beautiful, but also lends to her expressions
she's always so delightful and funny in every role she turns up in <3 I love her in witness for the prosecution, I love her in the inspector general, i love her in bride of frankenstein! funny astute adept always! (and neil gaiman's personal hot woman crush)

Screenplay by Jay Richard Kennedy
Directed by Robert Stevenson
One of the first post-war movies that attempted to deal seriously with the burgeoning narcotics trade in defiance of a Production Code that forbade nearly any mention of the subject! In true “docu-noir” style, Treasury agent Dick Powell trots the globe trying to pin down the leader of a diabolical heroin ring with a series of surprising occurrences culminating in a stunning denouement. Directed by Robert Stevenson, this fascinating period suspenser is almost never screened theatrically. Don’t miss this one!
FORMAT: 35mm

Directed by Lewis Seiler
Blend OUT OF THE PAST with BODY AND SOUL and what do you get? An artist who falls for a mystery woman, pursues her to the Big Apple, and ends up fighting for the middleweight championship! A contentious Dane Clark is artist/boxer Mike Angelo, Alexis Smith is his sexy siren, Eve Arden the sassy girlfriend, Douglas Kennedy the scar-faced gunsel, and best of all, Zachary Scott is the sadistic wheelchair-bound fight manager! “Whiplash” is what you’ll get keeping up with the breakneck plot pacing culminating in a smashing finale!

Maylia Fong; 1925 to 2016
Born Gloria Suie Chin in Detroit, Michigan, nothing is documented about her life prior to acting other than the fact that she was a Restaurantess, owning a series of Restaurants called Ah Fong with her Fiancé (and eventual Husband) Benson Fong. Details are often either vague or contradictory, however, about whether or not the original restaurant was established before or after her discovery by Columbia Pictures, and her introduction to Mr. Fong.
Regardless, her debut was the 1947 romantic Noir film Singapore, in which she portrayed the character Ming Ling alongside top names like Fred MacMurray and Ava Gardner; her Husband was likewise an accomplished actor in his own right, staring in works such as The Shanghai Cobra and Five Gates to Hell, and continuing to work in various Hollywood productions well up to his death in 1987.
Unlike her Husband, Maylia retired after only a handful of movies, returning to private life as a Restaurantess early on to focus on her and Benson’s family and businesses after her 1953 film Return to Paradise. She died in her sleep of natural causes in 2016, in her home in Costa Mesa, California, in the United States, at the age of 90.

I was scrolling through Pinterest, searching middy haircuts, like you do, and gasped.
Y’all, this is Maylia Fong, a Chinese-American actress at Paramount from 1947 to 1953. She was in films with Ava Gardner, Betty Grable, and Dick Powell. Maylia retired from movies to raise her 5 kids and run a chain of restaurants in LA called Ah Fong with her husband, Benson, also an actor.

Maylia Fong:
Marilyn Monroe:
She's amazing!!! A classic bombshell, as well as a strong women who overcame so many obstacles. She also advocated for others, like Ella Fitzgerald.
That fucking saxophone that cuts in whenever she appears on screen in Some Like it Hot
I mean, it's Marilyn Monroe. She's adorable. She's gorgeous. She funny. She's the total package
She's the original American sex symbol, an iconic beautiful woman with eyes you could get lost in, legs for days, gorgeous hair, and a cute tummy. Her voice! Just listen to her voice!!!!!
She is considered one of THE sex symbols of the 1960s and one of the greatest actresses of all time! She HAS to be on this list!
no vintage movie woman is more iconically hot
People are most familiar with pictures of her in the white dress or the Happy Birthday Mr President one, but imo she is at her most beautiful and looks most comfortable when she is photographed by women like Eve Arnold
It’s Marilyn Monroe. If Aphrodite was an actual person, she’d be Marilyn. Do I really need to say more?
What can I say that hasn't been said? Marilyn's legacy is so much bigger than she was in life. She's a defining symbol of 50s and 60s Hollywood sex and it's obvious why. She was absolutely stunning and the camera loved her.

Elisabeth Bergner (As You Like It)— I don't care what anyone says I think she's sooo sweet as Rosalind in that kind of terrible As You Like It movie. She's got lovely eyes and a lovely nose and I think she's delightful. She's apparently the reason we have All About Eve, so that's huge. And she's also in a lot of crossdressing films, so that's a big plus in my book.

The comment about Maylia Fong made me wonder, do you think during vintage Hollywood times the audience would sometimes go "this person can't play in a period piece, they look like they know what a rotary phone is"?
It's been a while but I swear there's a bit in Edith Head's autobiography where she says Jennifer Jones was perfect for period pieces just because her face looked right for them. So yes, they probably did talk about that!
