He was there for 10 years of my life.

watching a new episode, with a new host, and not hearing him say

just finished watching matpats “goodbye internet” and cried for 25 minutes along with him. after such a journey with him, i have to say something.

thank you, mat. thank you for all these years of education and fun. thank you for all the laughs and jokes we shared. thank you for every fun fact i can tell my family and friends no matter how annoying i may seem for it. thank you for every “thats just a theory” i say, knowing people will understand me. thank you for every time i was depressed and saw one of your videos that never failed to make me laugh for the first time in a long time. thank you for helping me stop being so scared of growing up, knowing that you taught me so much about everything i could want to know. thank you for making my passion for learning real. thank you for never letting it die out. thank you for making this world so much less scary and making it make sense. thank you for being one of the only people who made me feel smart.

thank you to the rest of the crew, whos somehow kept this crazy boat going for a whopping 13 years. thank you to stephanie, whos been with mat the whole time and jumped in every so often to add insight or a joke that always made me smile.

thank to lee, amy, santi, and tom for being so talented and passionate about your work so that you can keep the theories coming for hopefully years to come.

thank you everyone for making the world a whole lot less confusing. for making all of us feel like we meant something, even when some of us were told otherwise. for giving us a home and a family when we needed one the most.

so matpat had his final game theory today, and i watched most of it (missed the first 10 minutes cuz i couldnt remember when it was and i was watching smth else when i noticed) and i was pretty upset because game theory with matpat was a huge part of my early teen years (and is still a huge part of me) and i knew i was gonna have a hard time adapting to a new host

so i was crying in my office watching the video, and my parents heard me in the living room and my mom came in to make sure i was alright and comforted me as we finished the video together (i got a bit more upset when she came in because thats how i work, being around my mom makes me feel more relaxed and like i can release more emotion, also now i knew they could hear me so i was okay with releasing the rest of my emotions)

and after it finished she told me to go splash some cool water on my face and get a drink and i went into the living room after

and while i was upset i heard oakley come in, but he couldnt get to me because of my mom

so i sit on the couch, and he cuddles right up against me

and now we're going to visit family with him and he wont leave my side

i love him so much

im so proud of matpat for retiring. i, like many others, are sad at his leaving, but i am proud of him nonetheless. he deserves to retire and be with his family. it could not have been an easy decision to leave these channels hes built.

Dear MatPat,

You have touched the hearts of an entire generation, and you will never be forgotten.

It is truly a once in a life time experience to see a career that was not respected or understood, grow and blossom into a beautiful thing, under the care of you and people like you, now be old enough to retire from. You took theorizing on video games and movies (then later even to food and clothing), a subsection of ideas that previously was so underground you would be branded a loser for knowing about it, and had people invest themselves in it. You took an entire genre of thought and interwove your name into it, while simultaneously bringing it into the light of day so much that i can say "Sans is Ness" and anyone I will ever meet won't look at me with confusion, but instead a mutual understanding (and disappointment). You have left your chalice shaped mark on history, pressing the stamp more with every video, so that today, as I write, I know it will last for as long as it's medium still exists. I think I speak for everyone who is able to read this at the time of posting when I say, from the bottom of our hearts,
