WC: JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #101
This issue of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY represents the beginning of the fully-formed period of Thor’s adventures. Golden Age comics were littered with strange and interesting artists, and one of the strangest was Matt Fox. He didn’t do a ton of stories in comics, and only a handful of covers, but his style is so weird and creepy that I love stumbling across them.
He did more work in the pulps, and spent time inking (see the Larry Leiber/Fox page) for Atlas/Marvel, but even then his heavy, Basil Wolverton-like pen work gave the art a uniquely wild look.
