Ramadan Challenge 2024, Day 4
Day 4: Ramadan is the month of the qur'an. What is an ayah from the Qur'an that has changed your view of things or impacted you deeply (this year)?
وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًۭا (٢) And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them, وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَـٰلِغُ أَمْرِهِۦ ۚ قَدْ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدْرًۭا (٣) and provide for them from sources they could never imagine. And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He ˹alone˺ is sufficient for them. Certainly Allah achieves His Will. Allah has already set a destiny for everything.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran Surah Al-Talaq aya 2-3
This isn't from this year, it's actually from April 2013.  I was going through such a hard time and completely losing hope in everything.  It was one of the few times in my life I actually felt ungrateful to god because I couldn't see the point of everything I was going through.  I felt embarrassed for being ungrateful as soon as I felt it, because clearly I was doing better than a lot of people.  I was just lost and couldn't think what to do next.  So I said whatever dua came to mind for guidance, just prayed from the heart because I felt helpless and powerless in my situation.  This was the aya that got me through an incredibly dark time, a crucial fork in the road when I really needed courage to speak up for myself or risk suffering potentially devastating consequences for the rest of my life.
I still keep the ajr in mind for my daily tasks, even if I don't specifically refer to this aya in particular in daily life.  But it's always there for me to fall back on.
Diary for today:
Writing this before I go do the final preparation for futoor.  Today the hunger pangs are working together with PMS cramps.  I can't even cough without feeling it.  The PMS headache and lower back pain aren't helping either.  I have the privilege of being able to be kind to myself today: since I'm too physically weak for much, I mostly slept, then when I woke up, did less than usual.  I have that option and the rest will allow me to recover my strength inshallah.
I saw that the Oscars are trending on tumblr these past couple of days. Listen, I understand celebrating our website-wide certified holiday, the Ides of March, but y'all really said let's not talk about the Oscars and then did.  And you know what?  I get it.  Unless you're the one in the situation, you won't be able to keep on that one note, because you've got a life outside of it.
Maintenance is hard work.  These fights are marathons, not sprints, although the sprints definitely help, too!  I'm wondering to wear for Eid even as I hold my breath over the inevitable atrocities they're planning for Palestine's Eid.  I just hope that even if people don't turn up for Palestine every day, enough of them do for some change to take place.
Daily click as much a reminder for myself.

Today Marks the End of Ramadan
Ramadan is the most sacred and spiritual time of the year for Muslims. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from food and water every day from dawn to sunset, giving them time to contemplate their relationship with God, to pray longer, tp increase their charity and generosity, and to study the Quran.
It’s also a very social month, where families and friends come together to laugh, share food and give back to their communities and those who are less fortunate.
The holy month of Ramadan began on Wednesday, March 22 and lasts 30 days, ending at sundown on Friday, April 21. During that month, over 2 billion Muslims around the world will take part in the celebration. And did you know? Islam is the third largest religion in the United States, with more than 3.45 million living here?
Ramadan closes tomorrow with the celebration called Eid al-Fitr- The Festival of the Breaking of the Fast.
Below, from USA for UNHCR, are a few ways that Ramadan is celebrated:
Prayer: Pray, visit mosques and read verses of the Quran (some people read the whole Quran from cover to cover during this month).
Fasting: During the daylight hours of Ramadan, all healthy adult Muslims are required to abstain from food and drink.
Sahur (pre-dawn meal): Wake up early for “Sahur” to eat a power meal before fasting begins.
Iftar: The breaking of the fast at sundown – typically by gathering with family, friends and neighbors for large feasts.
Charity: Give money, food and time to people in need, including refugees and those displaced by war and persecution.
And of course, many refugees and displaced families also celebrate Ramadan, though they do so while being separated from those they love, from their communities, and from their homes. “While Ramadan is a time for celebration, for refugees, it is bittersweet as it is a reminder of a life that was lost,” says USA for UNHCR. They go on to say that, “Nearly 60 percent of all refugees and forcibly displaced people globally are from Muslim-majority countries – millions will be celebrating the holy month while facing poverty, hardship and uncertainty.”
If you would like to help protect refugees as they close out their celebration of Ramadan, please click here.
Thank you.

VEGOILS-Palm oil eases on subdued demand, lower inventories cap decline KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures slipped on Monday, weighed down by lacklustre global demand although shrinking inventories in the world's second largest producer capped the fall in prices. The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid 5 ringgit, or 0.12%, to 4,277 ringgit ($895.71) a metric ton by the midday break. "Market got some support from resumption of Chinese palm oil buying on Friday but other destinations were lacking charm," said Anilkumar Bagani, research head of Mumbai-based vegetable oils broker Sunvin Group. Malaysia's palm oil stocks at theend of March fell 10.68% from the previous month to 1.71 million metric tons, the lowest in ten months, as a surge in exports overshadowed output, according to Malaysian Palm Oil Board data released on Monday. Crude palm oil production gained 10.57% to 1.39 million tons for the period, while palm oil exports ticked up 28.61% to 1.32 million tons, according to the data. Production in April will likely be smaller than March due to slower harvesting during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays during the first half of the month, which would further deplete inventories, Bagani said. Cargo surveyors are also expected to release export estimates for April 1-15. Oil prices fell on Monday as market participants dialled back risk premiums following Iran's attack on Israel late on Saturday, which the Israeli government said caused limited damage. Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 rose 0.66% while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 lost 0.64%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 were up 0.59%. Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market. Palm oil may bounce to 4,326 ringgit per metric ton, as it stabilised around support of 4,242 ringgit, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said. ($1 = 4.7750 ringgit)

March 2024 Reading Roundup
Hello to March and all the madness that comes with it. Gunna be real with you guys March started off strong with some great reads and the start of my favorite time of year (Ramadan my beloved) and ended with probably the worst day I've had in 2024. Lowkey I will say I did not finish these books before Ramadan started so I definitely had to sneak some books in there but oh well. We are in the last ten days of Ramadan so I am trying to just focus on finishing well and getting the most out of these days. Also I got to see a friend I haven't seen in six years as well as other friends I haven't seen since November so I was very happy about that. On another note, I decided to start keeping a journal so I'll check in in April and see how that will go. Eid Mubarak everyone ✨✨

Eid Ul Fitr 2024: Date, History, Significance, Do’s & Don’ts and Celebration
Tumblr media
Eid Ul Fitr stands as one of Islam’s most significant festivals, celebrated in the aftermath of Ramadan. As per the Islamic calendar, Eid ul Fitr falls on the first day of 10th Shawwal annually. This year, the festival is anticipated to be joyously observed on April 10th. The exact date is determined by the sighting of the moon, with Eid in India typically aligning with its occurrence in Saudi Arabia. Also known as Chhoti Eid and Meethi Eid, let’s delve into the details of Eid ul Fitr 2024.
Ramadan commences on March 11th, 2024.
The start of Ramadan is confirmed after the sighting of the moon on the 29th day of Shaban.
Historical Background of Eid Ul Fitr
Eid Ul Fitr holds profound significance in Islam, rooted in the observance of five pillars: Namaz, Hajj pilgrimage, faith, fasting, and Zakat. Tradition traces back the inaugural Eid celebration to 624 AD when Prophet Muhammad achieved victory in the Battle of Badr. Joyous revelry ensued, with people distributing sweets and preparing elaborate feasts. Since then, Meethi Eid has been commemorated annually preceding Bakrid. Beyond marking the culmination of Ramadan, Eid serves as a time to express gratitude for the Quran and its teachings.
According to Islamic lore, the first war waged in the month of Ramadan occurred in the city of Badr, Medina, Saudi Arabia, resulting in Muslim triumph, hence dubbed as Jang-e-Badar.

RAMADAN: The Practice of Fasting
The Muslim Ummah in the United States will start fasting on the first day of Ramadan tentatively on Tuesday, the 12th of March, 2024, depending on the sight of new moon for the month of Ramadan and continue till the sight of the next moon of Shawwal on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
Eid-ul-Fitr wil be celebrated on April 10, 2024, the next day after seeing new moon for Shawwal on April 9, 2024, In shaa Allah.
During the holy month of Ramadan, which occurs on the ninth month of the lunar-based Islamic calendar, all Muslims are required to abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk for 30 days. Because Ramadan shifts approximately 11 days earlier each year on the solar-based Gregorian calendar, Muslims experience Ramadan in different seasons throughout the course of their lives.
The act of fasting is meant to remind Muslims of the less fortunate and to reinforce the need to be thankful. As one of the five pillars, or duties, of Islam, fasting during the month of Ramadan is mandatory for all healthy adult Muslims. Children who have not reached puberty, the elderly, those who are physically or mentally incapable of fasting, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and travelers are exempt.
Fasting during Ramadan means abstinence from all food or drink, including water and chewing gum, from dawn to sunset. It is recommended that before sunrise, Muslims eat a pre-fast meal known as suhur. This meal often resembles breakfast, but in some cultures it may include more dinner-like foods. After sundown, Muslims break their fast with iftar, a meal which usually starts with dates and water or milk, followed by dinner. Muslims are permitted to snack at night between those two meals, and hydration is encouraged, especially when Ramadan falls during summer.
For suhur, iftar and snacks, Muslims can more easily make it to sundown by eating high-fiber meals to sustain satiety over longer periods, fruits and vegetables to maintain electrolyte stores, and plenty of fluids to maintain hydration. Muslims should also limit fried foods and sugary sweets, the latter of which is a common cultural tradition among many ethnicities during the holy month.
After Ramadan, Muslims celebrate a three-day holiday called Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Breaking Fasts, to commemorate the blessings and spiritual renewal from Ramadan. The first day of Eid al-Fitr starts with a morning congregation prayer at the mosque (masjid). Muslims attend the prayer wearing their best clothes to pray together, greet friends and wish each other “Eid Mubarak,” meaning “A blessed Eid.” Afterward, Muslims gather with family and friends to celebrate over food and spend quality time together. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated all over the world with traditional foods that vary based on the cultural origins and family traditions. Both savory and sweet foods play an important role at many celebrations. Muslims in North Africa may celebrate with tajines, a type of slow-cooked stew that may contain meat, vegetables and fruit. Manti, a type of meat-filled dumpling, are popular among Muslims in Eastern Europe, Turkey and Asia. In Indonesia and Malaysia, beef rending, a stew of beef cooked in coconut milk, may be prepared. Sweets also are popular and often are served with tea or Arabic coffee. Traditional choices among those of Arab heritage include an assortment of phyllo- and pistachio-based pastries such as baklava or maabroomeh, or the date-filled cookies called ma’amoul. Saviyan, a vermicelli-based dish cooked in milk, or mithai, which means an assortment of sweets, are dishes with roots in South Asia. Butter cookies are a popular sweet treat among all regions and can be referred to as ghraybeh in the Middle East or naan khatai in South Asia. Nougat, Turkish delights and sweetened rice or semolina-based porridges are also popular in several regions. Eid al-Fitr also has non-food traditions. For example, families gift toys to their children and spend time engaging in fun activities such as playing at bounce houses or face painting to celebrate this joyous occasion. Some families and friends exchange money or goody bags filled with candy and small toys, for example. Eid al-Fitr also is a time to provide charity to those in need.
