Pity flashed over Sasha’s face. “Anne, sorry, but no. Andrias? The guy you admire so much? He’s stringing you along.”

“You’re lying.” Anne’s head snapped up. Her hands clenched into fists. “You keep lying.”

“I’m not, Anne.” She took a step closer. “We found a recording of a frog, who’d once been Andrias’ friend. She told us the music box is called the Calamity Box, and for a good reason. It’s deadly. It will kill people. And that’s exactly what he wants to use it for.”

“Andrias told me about his friends. He told me they betrayed him because they were jealous.”

“Lies. Anne, hate to burst your bubble, but those were lies. King Andrias is an evil man, and he’s been using you. He doesn’t care about you.”

Her words were like daggers, and Anne could only respond in kind.

“I think you’re confusing King Andrias with yourself, Sasha.”
