The concept of a Makoto / Kiryu friendship is actually all I'm going to think about today. Imagining them trying to keep Tachibana's business afloat but they just too lovely and kind and it all goes to shit in months is so funny. Majima's just like How? How did you run a multi billion yen company into the ground this fast and they're both just like 😶😶

today's scam: Aha water (again)
Was walking down pink street when I got stopped by a barker who promised that all my problems could be solved..., long story short, anyone remember Aha water from the 80s? Well, they rebranded as AHA water (subtle, I know) and they''re back at it. I stalked the people who make it and they literally collected puddle water from the champion district to put in the concoction. I didn't really feel well after drinking it, but the overall experience was good because they totally tapped into that nostalgia. Overall a really solid scam. Stay safe out there kamurocho.

I love the whole ms hannya magical/tatoo thing. Do you have any worldbuilding ideas behind it too?
I do!!
Tumblr media
long post ahead (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
so, the concept is like spirits that haunt people by manifesting through big ass tattoos (at least full back in size) - as the tattoo is slowly completed so does the spirit slowly become part of the person.
they'll take on traits of the host, such as pieces of their personality but also things the host may value or want to see in themselves. Ms. Hannya is physically feminine, very open to express impulsiveness and violence. Big D is more jovial and friendly than Kiryu but just as much of a himbo, etc.
the spirits themselves exist parallel to humans, doing ghosty goo things like haunting people or places, making shit fly off walls, the usual. but some of them are drawn to people to possess them as a form of interaction with the world they could not otherwise achieve. something about the slow process of tattooing, fresh wounds and the literal imagery help spirits shape into something tangible and attach themselves to the host. lesser spirits by contrast just sort of ‘exist’ without any real personality or being.
theme-wise, the spirits take on the central subject of the tattoo (a dragon, hannya, tiger, etc) as well as other bits to varying degrees. for example, Ms. Hannya usually appears as a ghost looking thing but she can form a snake body or have sakura petals float around her. Nishiki's fish likewise could have water effects swirling around, etc.
Tumblr media
the spirits are invisible to everyone (including other spirits) except the host unless they choose to show themselves. spirits can sense other spirits despite visibility.
when first manifesting, hints of them appear during the tattoo's initial progress.
Majima's started out by him seeing very unworldly hair tendrils in weird places, hearing Ms. Hannya’s voice, seeing vague apparitions of her, etc throughout the process of his tattooing. Saejima saw bamboo growing out of the walls or something more benign for his lol.
Tumblr media
I think it'd be cool to interpret the heat effects from people's in-game fighting moves as them literally channeling their spirit 👀 so when Kiryu’s got his flame aura going on, that’s his dragon helping out. I want to keep the spirit’s ability somewhat in line with the games so the spirits themselves aren’t going to be directly fighting other people or doing fancy shit like Jojo stands but rather mostly buffing their hosts. spirits do have some limited physical interaction with things like they can touch and be felt but it’s more or less within a short radius from their host.
people who have heat effects to their moves but say, no tattoos could be host to lesser spirits that don’t develop into their own being. said host’s connection to that spirit is weak and they wouldn’t even know they’re possessed but that fire shit do be cool tho. people like Akiyama or Shinada would fit here and still prove to be pretty strong but it’s not as comparable to as those with fully sapient spirits.
spirits are very protective of their hosts since it's their ticket to interacting in the real world though it varies. some might be more self centered while others will genuinely bond with their host.
Ms. Hannya is very defensive of Majima, to the point she's often aggressive and has a lot of tough love to give him. initially he was very resistant to her manipulations to go apeshit and she doesn’t particularly care for his selflessness at his own expense, so the beginning of their relationship was fairly hostile. she became even more protective of him after his experience in the hole. she’s not a fan of anyone who uses Majima (even if he lets them) so people like Kiryu are on her shit list and to a lesser degree Saejima, due to the ‘I’m constantly going back to jail’ thing lol.
Tumblr media
Big D is quite the opposite, he’s willing to go along with whatever Kiryu says and shares his recklessness. he’s a very passive spirit who doesn’t bother to argue with Kiryu because he knows there’s no point in talking to a brick wall so he just does his best to protect him. Ms. Hannya is pretty irritated by his passivity just because she thinks Big D could *try* to reel Kiryu in from being a dumbass but frankly he doesn’t think Kiryu would listen.
hosts and spirits share emotional and physical feelings.
for better or worse, spirits can feel all the physical sensations their hosts do. Majima’s time in the hole was enough to make Ms. Hannya disappear for the most part as she was too weak to even manifest. she could talk to him but barely.
as far as emotions go, neither hosts or spirits can make each other feel things. instead it’s more like, they can understand what the other is feeling innately. so if Majima’s making googoo eyes @ Kiryu and denying anything lovey dovey is going on, Ms. Hannya can call him out on it lol.
there’s porny implications here too so do with that information as you will lol
spirits cannot be damaged physically unless the tattoo itself is damaged. touchups can help maintain their appearance. upon the host’s death, the spirit also “dies” and reverts back into a lesser spirit, losing its memories and identity.
given my Nishiki lives AU, his fish got burnt pretty badly so his spirit has since taken up a similar appearance. unlike Nishiki who in a way feels like the damage done to himself is deserved as some sort of penance, his spirit is actually rather bitter about it.
hrmmm me thinks that’s all I got for now!

my take on Nishiki for a "Yumi set up a slightly smaller bomb" AU and a whole bunch of meta under the cut
I see Nishiki as being caught between two contradictory extremes: he's still got a sense of vanity and wants to be seen as normal, he desperately wants things to go back to how they were before the explosion, but he's also self-punishing in a way where he doesn't want himself or anyone else to be able to forget that he did a big awful thing.
he's had reconstructive work done so he could absolutely go without the eyepatch, but he keeps it both as an indicator and to hide some of the facial scarring. his prosthetics pass moderately well but his arm is kind of poorly fitted and limited in functionality--he doesn't feel he deserves anything better, like he'd be avoiding the punishment he feels he still needs to accept
he lost the razor sharp abs during his recovery time and never really pursued them again but his back is pretty shredded from using a body-powered prosthetic. no touch up on the koi in another contradiction because he does end up back in the yakuza to run the Nishikiyama Family again after the events of Y3
explosions on their own don't tend to cause much in the way of burns but we saw the aftermath of it that place was on FIRE so that's where the big expansive scarring comes from. there's some decent swaths of dead zones where the nerves just never really regenerated
also a lot of it he did not heal up well at ALL and ran into all sorts of complications. his arm was definitely a goner but his leg was more from repeated infections and rejected grafts and the like
he's got some degree of blast-induced neurotrauma that mostly manifests in poor impulse control and aggression issues, but those were already things he struggled with so he's very very unclear on what's new and what's not and that's really frustrating and honestly scary for him
so yeah he's really tearing himself apart by chasing the past he can't return to and refusing to allow himself to be something new

updates from day one of Kyoto,
I was actually super nervous about taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto. Not because I thought the train would crash or anything - I was just nervous because I had to transfer at Shinjuku Station and get a separate ticket for the bullet train. Everything went smoothly, the ride was fast and comfortable, and it was a clear morning, so I saw Mount Fuji from the window. :)
Kyoto highlights of day one:
Brunch at Nishiki Market -- highlights were shrimp tempura, grilled salmon belly and grilled eel, gyoza, and giant raw oysters!
Seeing the twin dragons painted on the ceiling at Kennin-ji temple. I'm a sucker for ceiling art at any religious institution, and this, as the kids say, ate. Also, I've seen a lot of dragon depictions over the years, and this one of the twin dragons is my favorite. The faces of the dragons were so uniquely fierce and alive.
The bamboo forest at Kodai-ji temple. I've never seen anything like it before. I've only ever seen little bamboo in a pot, not bamboo that's like sixty feet high and as thick around as my arm. I loved hearing the wind whistle through the bamboo leaves.
Sitting at the reflecting pond at Ryozen Kannon Temple, looking up at the massive statue of Buddha there. It gave such a sense of spirituality and peace.
Sitting on the porch at Entoku-in Temple, looking out over the garden. I thought how much I would love, love, love, to be able to have that view while I drank tea every day.
I fell in love with Yasaka Shrine and how vividly orange so much of the shrine is.
I had a delicious soba dinner at the end of my first day in Kyoto. I thought, while eating, that I've become spoiled during my time in Japan. The food is so high quality, and it's fully half the price of a single entree when eating out at home. Also, the Japanese food here is (no surprise) far better than home.
I also fell asleep that night at literally 8 PM lmao!! Jet lag has mostly been manifesting as feeling tired early in the night rather than daytime sleepiness, which I deeply appreciate.

I love that they made Nishiki’s heat aura distinct from Kiryu’s by not only making it a deeper blue colour, but also by having lightning sparks surround his body.
It’s like a manifestation of the anger and suffering those two stormy nights brought about,  that he has to carry with him.

GOD I wish we had like. Any canon content of Nishiki bearing witness to Kiryu and Majima's whole Thing
Like, in yakuza 1 it seemed like Majima knew Kiryu before he went to prison, and not just cause he learned his name in yakuza 0. They seemed to have had a rapport and Majima knew that Kiryu was "rusty" from his time in jail. So they clearly were doing their psychosexual fight shenanigans back in the 90s. And Nishiki HAD to have witnessed or at least known about it
No this doesn't keep me up at night I'm normal
SO true bestie I CONSTANTLY wonder what the hell was going on in that 89-95’ window with them,,, and the completely unexplored dynamic with nishiki as part of that especially– I mean, nishiki’s the one who initially says he’s gonna make it his duty to welcome kiryu back from prison with open arms and all that, and when that falls through majima swoops in without anyone asking (quite the opposite- he definitely isn’t supposed to be welcoming back The Guy Convicted Of Killing Dojima) and becomes somewhat of a replacement pillar in kiryu’s life where nishiki used to be. which is a pretty huge hole to fill. and suggests their relationship had to have not totally come out of nowhere.
it makes me seriously wonder like. what kind of relationship did majima have with kiryu prior to prison in which majima could become so attached to him that he goes out of his way to help or save him whenever possible? or did it become that way more delayed, ramping up the moment nishiki was out of the picture so to speak? like you said, they were already seemingly pretty well acquainted before shit went down, but with nishiki still around… hm. it’s an important factor to consider for sure.
my thought is that nishiki would’ve been protective over kiryu and would try, to the best of his ability, to keep him at a distance from The Mad Dog of Shimano (understandable, honestly), half out of genuine concern and half out of the fear of someone attempting to lure kiryu away from him and leave him alone and, by consequentially, worthless– considering he’s a very insecure guy and he and kiryu were quite codependent at the time. and knowing majima, he likely would’ve gotten the message loud and clear and perhaps kept his distance emotionally speaking (to the best of his ability, but let’s be real i think majima caught feelings for kiryu pretty early and wouldn’t be able to TOTALLY stop them from manifesting in one way or another), but I don’t doubt kiryu still ended up in various ordeals and play-fights with him– maybe even a bit more than that. I can see majima getting a kick out of annoying nishiki and by no means would majima be intimidated by him whatsoever (he can’t beat the shit out of nishiki and nishiki knows that from experience)– but majima’s, secretly, a very selfless, oddly self-disciplined person and I doubt he’d purposefully take his teasing too far. in fact, I think he’d try pretty actively to avoid approaching kiryu if nishiki’s around, knowing nishiki’s not a fan of him, not wanting to create any distance between the two, and not wanting to inject himself too deep into kiryu’s life to turn back when he needs to.
I feel like nishiki wouldn’t genuinely feel threatened by majima’s mad dog reputation; he’d feel threatened by whatever enigmatic thing majima is beneath the mad dog persona. whatever he is that allowed him to run the most prestigious cabaret in sotembori (and probably one of the best in all of Japan) and get it to such a status in only two years, all while only 22-24 years old, and all while recovering from an entire year in the hole (which, as we know, nishiki has been informed about the horrors of). so, while he’d be insecure and concerned about kiryu getting drawn away from him by someone more competent than himself, he’d also be distrusting due to the lingering feeling that whatever majima’s interests were with kiryu, they’d have an ulterior motive or two that could get kiryu hurt or worse. majima was shimano’s dog at the time, after all– who knows what he could’ve been ordered to do with kiryu in the long run? what kind of guy would voluntarily pledge his allegiance to shimano after being tortured by him for so long? you get the picture.
side note: interesting to consider that he would’ve been right to be threatened by majima’s competence to some degree, considering majima’s the one who jumps in to fill the gap nishiki leaves in kiryu’s life after he’s released, AND he ends up taking nishiki’s place as top earner in the tojo clan only a year after his downfall. where he’d be wrong is that any of that was malicious.

Tattoo Headcanons: Shindo Koji and Matsushige
Thanks to @nishikiyamayuko for requesting and helping with coming up with tattoo ideas for these characters!
Tumblr media
Shindo Koji is the katakana-weilding boss in 2 who is looking to take over the Tojo and take Dojima Yayoi as a lover against her will. Matsushige is the man in Kiwami 1 who back-sasses Nishikiyama on the wrong day and gets turned into hair gel.
Tumblr media
For Shindo I went with the Garuda. The Garuda (or Karura in Japan) is a fearsome bird-like humanoid from Buddhist mythology. It is a precursor to early depictions of tengu, though the tengu developed less bird-like facial features in art over time, now more commonly depicted with a long, humanoid nose. The Karura is the mortal enemy of serpents and dragons. This reflects his antagonism toward Kiryu. (In my opinion the katana battle with him is one of the most memorable fights in the series, it's just a really badass fight.) According to legend, only a dragon who follows Buddhist doctrine can escape being crushed by the might of the Karura. Kiryu, as the Dragon of Dojima, works in service of Daigo, whose tattoo is one of the manifestations of the Buddha: Fudo Myo-o.
I also wanted to connect him directly to Daigo, and the flames behind Daigo's Fudo Myo-o are said to be from the breath of a Karura. This sort of makes Shindo the “fire lit under his ass” that motivates Daigo to step in as the 6th Chairman of the Tojo. Fudo Myo-o's cleansing flames burn away physical desire, and 2 has Daigo transform from a hedonist who is only interested in drinking at clubs and getting into fights, into a dedicated leader who puts the needs of the Tojo first thoughout the remainder of the series. Seeing Shindo's greed, selfish desire for power, and targeting of Daigo's own mother is the push Daigo needed to take the reins.
Tumblr media
Matsushige gets the Nue, a fearsome chimeric creature with the head of a monkey, the body of a tanuki, the legs of a tiger, a snake for a tail, and the ability to fly through the night sky like a bird. In one myth a nue haunted the nightmares of Emperor Konoe, causing him to fall ill until the beast could be slain. Killing a nue can also potentially bring a retaliatory curse to entire cities. Matsushige's involvement in the death of Nishiki's sister gives him a clean connection to the nue as a bringer of disease, as well as making Nishiki's life a living nightmare. One could also see Matsushige's death as bringing a curse, as his murder a key part of Nishiki's descent into villainy and eventual downfall.
(References: Karura, Nue)

01 Tokis Ghoul :)))
Awful takes ahoy
Favorite character:
It changes frequently but Takizawa has permanent residence in at least the top 3. Recently I've been liking Shikorae.
Least Favorite character:
I've mentioned that the worst offense a character can make is being boring. So I probably don't remember them at all, but of the ones I do know :re Touka. She's so sadly bland and it just feels like her personality hasn't been developed just taken down a couple notches. I like her so much! I don't like what was done with her.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Oh god, in no particular order:
If I had to pick one of the big three kaneki ships: Shuuneki. shuunaki because I read a couple good fics, utaren's very interesting to me romantically and platonically, I heard of Eto Itori and Rize once and it's lived in my mind since. And then one of my many rarepairs that will seem weird or outright nonsensical is furushuu. I won't bother attempting to explain, I'd get nowhere, but if you were me it'd seem so interesting I promise. My favorite genre for all of these except for itorizeto (of which I just think they should conquer the world, the way their names connect so easily makes me happy. They're entirely there if you look at them individually, but as a whole they also overlap with each other!) is one-sided affection. I'm a fan of pining.
Character I find most attractive:
I've never really sat back and gone "wow that is a pretty person" while reading Tokyo Ghoul. The closest I've gotten was seeing an Ayato cosplayer just pick up a person and carry them, matsumae for a moment, and when I first got into the series, Shuu.
Character I would marry:
Kanae.
Character I would be best friends with:
Kanae, Kurona, and Nishiki seem cool but they'd hate my guts! Anyone that comes to mind first as an interesting as a friend would probably want me dead, So Hanbee or Koori. They could learn to tolerate me.
a random thought:
When tumblr starts being thirsty over “that old man” I do think of Kureo Mado (Akira’s dad) I Am Sorry. I will not change.
An unpopular opinion:
This fandom is too dead for me to know what a popular opinion is so: Kaneki isn't that interesting after the tsukiyama extermination arc, and Touka's speech to him when he came back to Anteiku did literally nothing. Touka and Hide's influence gives Kaneki brief moments of clarity before doing something stupid that'll hurt people, and then he does the stupid thing that'll hurt people anyways but we should root for him anyways because he's thinking of them... Is suppose.
My Canon OTP:
This is a funny one because I am either neutral or outright annoyed by most canon ships. I guess Nishikimi, they support and love each other and Kimi’s character couldn’t be assassinated to love a man because it was a quality of her personality from the beginning, and even if :re doesn’t devote too much time to her she’s still an influential and decent character.
My Non-canon OTP:
I kind of ship almost anything that drifts my way a little bit and nothing passionately. You could give me any of the ones I've mentioned and 50% of those I haven't and I'd go "yeah sure that one"
Most Badass Character:
ETO YOSHIMURA MY EVERYTHING, I don’t care how many times Kaneki changes his hair color she is unmatched.
Most Epic Villain:
Furuta and his weird methods. It’s unfortunate we never got a real idea of how strong he is because kingneki got a final form complete with religious imagery to crush the sinner! And barely took a scratch that entire fight. Seriously if the early confrontation with an aggressive bisexual with a poorly thought out plan trying to eat your main character is more intense than the final fight of the series with a character who’s a living manifestation of all of the issues that characters in this series suffer from, both on the receiving and giving end, I feel like it’s all gone off the deep end.
Pairing I am not a fan of:
The two weirdly-prevalent-in-the-old-fandom cousin pairings. Yes the one-sided attraction is canon, they’re still cousins and I don’t like it when that obsession is romanticized even when rewritten to be “ethical” otherwise. Unhealthy pairings can be interesting if handled well but they’re also related. But if you want my petty "nothing wrong with this the vibes just aren't it" answer, Hinami and Ayato.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):
Is all of them an option. Mostly joking but really, so many of them never got a good resolution or were straight up abandoned by the narrative but it's okay because look! Main character got a happy family! Not sure how because from the state we saw him in earlier I don't think he's fit to have a stable friendship let alone a wife and two kids but alright I guess kisses cure issues. I feel the worst for Takizawa, Furuta, Shuu, and Mutsuki currently because I'm thinking about how they never got a good resolution.
Favourite Friendship:
I’m making it friendshipS because there is no way I could limit myself to just 1, Chie and Tsukiyama, Shikorae and Takizawa, the clowns in general, the quinx squad in general, and I know it's not nearly canon but Furuta and Eto were made enemies BECAUSE GOD WAS AFRAID OF WHAT THEY WOULD ACHIEVE IF THEY WERE FRIENDS. I like to ponder the mischief and mind games that would ensue they're so awful.
Character I most identify with:
Oh I'm not self aware enough for this one assign me a person if you wish! I've been made to take quiz things a few times and I believe my results from those have been taki, kuki, and furuta but I don't trust my reading comprehension skills, the quiz makers opinions, or my own answers enough to trust that.
Character I wish I could be:
If we're just talking abilities, Shikorae. If you mean "You literally have to become them", unfortunately how fun it would be to play their role comes hand in hand with trauma, Touma Higemaru perhaps. Bikakus are my favorite kind of Kagune, and he's a pretty blank slate. I could do a lot, anyone with more intrigue ends up dead or completely alone.
I had a lot of fun with this one.

到着
After reading the blogs of previous JETs and having conversations with friends back home, I started this blog to let everyone know what and how I'm doing. I hope it's a nice diary and can help future JETs who can relate to me.
I arrived in Japan on the last day of July, 2022. I'd never been to Japan before because my study abroad opportunities got canceled in college, and I was very excited to move outside the country and visit the country for the first time.
The JET Program came highly recommended to me by my professors and other acquaintances as the best way to work in Japan and experience the culture after college. I was very intimidated by the program's somewhat prestigious aura and reputation as being the way to get here, but not for very long after arriving.
I was lucky to travel with my friend Lu who had also gotten accepted in the same year, and we departed out of Portland, over to Seattle, and finally went to orientation in Tokyo. The entire process was very confusing and anxiety-inducing, so having someone familiar with me was very comforting. I'm very grateful to Lu, and I hope they're doing well in Fukuoka. :)
On one hand, I noticed immediately after arriving in Japan that JET's Japanese staff really manifested that vibe I felt over Zoom. Demanding formality yet corporate, being complicated yet vague, and unforgiving yet asking for perfection. Even after only being here for two months I've grown to be very critical of how the program runs. But individually, everyone really tries their best, and that was evident by the wonderful people I've met in Kumamoto Prefecture. After listening to lots of presentations and meeting lots of new people in Tokyo, I went to my placement in Nishiki Town.
JET's favorite saying is ESID or "every situation is different", which is just a fancy way of shrugging off the crazy amount of variation between every placement. They could never possibly manage to get all of Japan's local or prefectural boards of education (BOE) to agree to treat their ALTs (teachers) or CIRs (teachers or office workers who learned more Japanese) the same way. Every BOE has their own feelings towards the JET program and expectations for how they want their JET to contribute to the education system in their town.
I'm lucky to be placed at a BOE with an amazing supervisor, and a senior ALT who has five years of knowledge about both Nishiki and how its schools work. However, there are definitely imperfections and kinks in the system that just haven't been worked out by the BOE or JET despite having done this rotation of foreigners moving in and out for years. I had a hard first two weeks of adjusting to living by alone, living in a new country, being in a completely different culture, and being without any close friends around me all for the first time. When things in my apartment didn't seem ready for me or I couldn't hit the ground running, I felt confused. The people were so kind and welcoming, but there were miscommunications or road blocks from various places that I didn't expect. An example that sums up my feelings well is when I was sent a detailed email to me weeks before I arrived about money, work, and living in Japan, but to the wrong email address. There was no follow up to make sure I received the email, and I could've prepared so much better for life in Nishiki if I had read it. I could see the great efforts people put into preparing for my arrival, but there was a dissonance because it didn't translate into a painless and comfortable transition for me. Thus, it was hard to feel at home when I was so overwhelmed by everything and there were so many mountains I needed to start climbing.
Before this, school has been the constant moratorium that preoccupied me and kept me from learning how to survive in the "real world". (Even now, I think the JET Program is still a moratorium that I am under, but it's not as comprehensive.) Of course many people who are older than me have already said, "well at least...". And what I've glimmered from that advice is that I want to practice showing gratitude to others and to myself. It's okay to be young and overwhelmed because I don't know anything yet. If I'm grateful for everyone helping me in my life and understand that I've already persevered so much, I can find more motivation to create a life for myself in Japan. Additionally, I just might find time to unpack the many thoughts of identity and belonging and purpose that Japan has challenged me with.

For those confused about who the hell is this Shikiya dude when this is a Nishiki role play blog:
Shiki is the name I gave to the ‘other’ personality Nishiki adopts in K1. Derived from niShikiyama. I always have headcanoned that the trauma Nishiki goes through has caused a sort of Dissociative Personality Disorder to develop. Except that I’m in the middle of writing a fic where K1 Nishiki is much more than another personality. Shiki is a reborn tengu who possesses Nishiki when he was at his breaking point. He was born to ‘protect’ Nishiki where no one else would, to ‘love’ him when no one else would, and to be the ‘strength’ he could only dream of having in both body and mind.
Shikiya is essentially a very negative, and I fucking mean foul as hell, manifestation of everything Nishiki has always wanted.
He isn’t a split personality. He’s actually a second soul living in the same body.  This is why the two have their own thoughts, opinions, converse, and often clash with one another.

"I love you. Please don't go"
Just a tired 3 AM in the morning writings. Found some prompt in here so I figure I kinda challenge myself with it. The title is literally one of the prompt I found. Might do some more in the future.
Word Count: 900+
Characters: Akira Nishikiyama, Shikiya
Pairings: NiShikiya/AkiShiki
Fic under the cut
--------
Shikiya woke up with a start, his chest heaving and breaths coming in heavy pants. Sitting abruptly, one hand found its way to his chest while the other clutching his messy hair. His eyes frantically scanned the darkened room he’s currently in.
It’s his bedroom. It’s night. It’s dark. He’s alone.
Utterly alone.
Panic started to take over him until something snapped him out of his stupor.
“Shiki?”
Nishiki’s sudden yet soft voice filled his mind, making the twin counterpart jump a little before calming down with a sigh.
“Yo… You’re here...”
Slumping against the headboard, Shikiya repeated with a voice barely above a whisper. He could almost feel Nishiki’s worried gaze at him. That alone saved him from having to explain what happened. They both already knew.
Shikiya had a nightmare. A serious one at that.
It was dark everywhere. Not a single hint of light existing. A distant figure facing him, unreachable even if he tried to run at them. Even if he tried to reach out at them. That figure, Nishiki, just smiled at him. Sadness written all over his face. The Koi’s mouth moved, speaking something, but all he could hear was silence. The next moment, his body started to fade. First his feet, then legs, thighs, hips…
Shikiya desperately called out to him, begging him “please don’t leave me alone!”, forced his legs to move faster, for fuck sake, please move!
Yet... It was futile. His counterpart had vanished into nothingness, leaving nothing but memories.
His body trembled as he remembered it, tears started welling up behind clenched eyes. He let out a sob. Memories from the hospital, that day after the explosion, began to haunt him. Back when he had believed to lose the other soul for good.
“N-Nishiki…? Y-You still there…?” Shikiya asked between sobs, his tone was that of fear and regret.
The Koi replied, “Yeah, I’m still here”
That should be enough. His voice and presence should be enough to confirm that, yes, he’s there with him.
Yet it didn’t.
Shikiya wanted to touch him. To feel that he’s indeed there and not his mind playing tricks on his lonely self. The hand on his chest fisted a handful of his white dress shirt. His heart ache at the thought that he’s in fact alone with his imagination vainly grasping on the ghost that was his other self. A tear slid down his cheek, its brethren followed suit not long after. He couldn’t take it. He could’ve lost his mind, chasing after a ghost that no longer exists.
A faint touch settled on his fist, causing him to open his eyes and look. A hand rested on his, strangely there and not there at the same time. But it’s enough to anchor him back to reality. He watched as he felt another faint touch brushing the tears away from the corner of his eyes.
“Shikiya… I’m here… I’m not going anywhere…” Nishiki’s gentle and kind voice filled the otherwise relatively silent room save for Shikiya’s quiet sobbing. “I’m not leaving you alone… Not anymore…”
At this moment, Shikiya could finally see the other's vague form taking shape. The signature red suit and black-gold undershirt contrasting with the white and black attire he's wearing. Short flowing hair framing the soft expression his twin was sporting, his lips curling into a reassuring smile. His dark eyes were looking at him, understanding.
The faint touches were soon replaced by warmth all around him. Nishiki had hugged him. Shikiya found himself returning the gesture, careful not to touch too harshly as if afraid that he'd disappear if he did so. His tears started anew, streaming down his cheeks and chin as he buried his face on Nishiki's shoulder. Gentle pats hit his back. All of this proved that, yes, he's still here with him. The other kept telling him that he's here but his tone slowly became unsure and desperate, as if even he sought validation of his existence.
Shikiya pulled away from the embrace, tears staining on his face. One look at Nishiki told him he's almost as messy as him. Glistening wet trails adorned the Koi's cheek. Had he cried too? For what?
Suddenly, the Koi leaned and planted a chaste kiss on Shikiya's lips. Momentarily taken aback, the doppelganger returned the gesture not long after. Gentle kiss soon became a desperate one. Shikiya's tongue slithered past Nishiki's lips. He let him, if only to tell him that he's truly here, not a figment of his imagination. It takes a while before both pulled away for air.
"I love you," Shikiya muttered pleadingly, fingers tucked a loose strand of Nishiki's hair behind his ear. "Please... Don't go... Don't leave me alone"
This time, he's the one who initiated the kiss. Nothing but pure desperation, each pouring their love for the other into it. Their hands ghosting at each other's body, anchoring them to this moment. Another minute passed before the two gasps for air. Nishiki leaned his forehead against Shikiya's, his eyes lidded as he observed the mirror image before him, the one he used to hate when he first manifested but now has turned into one of the most important people in his life.
"I love you too," Nishiki whispered softly, his thumb wiping another tear that threatened to fall from the corner of Shikiya's eye. "I won't leave you... I'll always be by your side… Promise…"
Shikiya hummed in tired satisfaction. A soft "me too" escaped his lips before he let himself overtaken by exhaustion. The last thing he knew was Nishiki's heart - his own heart - beating steadily against his ear.
He had slept nightmare-free after that. When he woke up, he noticed he's still alone. Yet he acknowledged, deep down, he's not completely alone. Because Nishiki's there with him. Within him.
That's all that matters.

May I request Nishiki (Tokyo Ghoul) headcanons with a weaker ghoul, please?
Tumblr media
I’m not sure whether you want me to do a friendship headcanons or something. But I wrote Nishiki with his s/o, instead. I hope this is what you meant.
If you like mywriting, please support me on ko-fi!

Nishiki with a weaker ghoul s/o
Judging from how he first reacted to Kaneki, I’d say that he’ll be hostile at first. Especially when he thinks that you’re going to steal his feeding ground. It might not be your intention, but Nishiki is territorial just like any other powerful ghoul.
However, after you proved him your innocence, he’ll start treating you a bit differently than before. Not necessarily kind, but at least he no longer growled at you. It doesn’t mean he’ll stop throwing insults at you, though. But you know that they’re based out of playfulness rather than hatred.
He’s a bit disgusted by your inability to fully protect yourself, and this is where he might offer to teach you. It depends on your attitude towards him and your relationship, of course. As much as he likes a little fire in his s/o, he won’t bother to entertain an overly rude person either.
If you’re nice to him, or at least tolerable to be around, he’ll have a teacher-student relationship with you. He’ll get a little protective, while also allowing you a room to grow. But when you get overwhelmed, or the enemy is too strong, expect him to swoop in. Possibly even killing them, if the enemy keeps wanting to fight.
He’ll blush if you thank him, especially when you smile so brightly. It flutters his heart and makes him a bit more appreciative of your existence. But slowly, he grows bitter whenever you show your dazzling smile to other people. In his mind, he’s an important – if not the only – figure in your life. Therefore, you shouldn’t waste your time hanging out with those weaklings. What good would you get from them, anyway?
This… jealousy usually manifest in a form of snide remarks, both to you and your ‘friends’. He’ll get huffy whenever you ask him the reason and tend to avoid it with another insult. It’s not easy for him to express this gnawing feeling and because his pride doesn’t allow him, either. He thinks it’s a weakness to tell you that he’s being jealous.
However, if you choose to ignore the subtle signs and keep meeting your so-called friends, Nishiki won’t hesitate to outright kidnap you and kill any witness. Why are you freaking out? He’s just helping you. And besides, he can protect you better if you’re always with him. He only has the best intentions in mind, even though he gets angry over your lack of cooperation.
This is when he declares your ‘relationship’ by biting your shoulder, the same way Kaneki bit Touka’s shoulder and vice versa. He might not force you to have sex with him right away; he’s not a thirsty bastard. But surely you don’t mind a little ‘marking’, right? It’s important for the others to know that you belong to him, so they won’t get any funny idea.
Nishiki isn’t always a tough guy, though. In private, he’ll cuddle you and often helps you with your chore. Basically, you’ll act like a housewife since he thinks that you’ll get bored being bounded on the bed. However, he doesn’t mind doing the latter, either. He secretly loves talking, too. So, expect a lot of pillow talk and sometimes random ‘I love you’s. This is just one of his ways to confess his feelings for you.
As for punishment, he mostly rely on sexual and isolation for physical. But if he’s feeling rather sadistic, he might let you wander around for a moment until a stronger ghoul attacks you. You’ll be left almost dead before Nishiki saves you. In a way, he’s teaching you that you’re weak without his protection and you should know better than leaving him again. Unless you want a harsher punishment…

Tumblr media
At Kiryu telling him that he’s always getting in fights too, he pauses his attack to look the man up and down. He did have an intense air of do not mess with me, and what he heard Enid refer to as a “resting bitch face.” It was easy for T.K.O. to believe that people would pick fights with him often, if for no reason other than for the thrill of it.
But what he said next only served to rile him up again.
Tumblr media
“All I am is my anger!” He yelled back, striking the ground in front of him. “Destroying everything is all I can do!”
Being what he was, T.K.O. was always filled with the overwhelming desire to destroy and lash out at those around him. All he felt was anger and hostility. He was viewed by everyone, including K.O. himself, as this angry little thing to be hidden away. Being told not to let his anger get the best of him only worsened his attitude.
However, in his mind, K.O. was listening to Kiryu’s words, fighting as hard as he could to make his way to the front again.
You’re going to wreck yourself if you don’t stop soon. Maybe he would. His destruction was aimless and it was possible he’d end up hurting himself. He hasn’t yet, but there’s a first time for everything.
“Who am I s'pposed to ask for help? My ‘friends’ just see me as a weak little child– they don’t respect me. Why should I trust them to help me?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m in a real predicament here. If I don’t choose my words wisely, it might be more than me getting hurt. Kiryu understood how T.K.O. felt. Feeling like a powerless kid. He remembered a long time ago, he wanted to help out Kazama-san, he wanted to follow him into whatever sort of plot he was doing one night... it didn’t end well. It wasn’t time to think of that, though.
What Kiryu was looking at was like a polar opposite to the kid he met a week ago--a manifestation of pure rage. A caged beast that was hardly let out enough to keep it sated. A piece of K.O., perhaps, that he was ashamed of having. It almost reminded him of Nishiki, in a way. How he changed in just a decade from that snarky yet golden-hearted fellow he was best friends, no, brothers with, to... whatever you could call him now. And how badly Kiryu wanted to keep that friendship--yes, that’s what this situation made him think of.
Tumblr media
“Listen, I don’t know much about you, but I’ve learned that destinies can change.” Kiryu stood his ground, keeping his eyes sharp for any incoming attacks. “You can’t possibly be entirely anger. Nobody’s like that. But if you’re convinced all you can do is destroy, that’s all you’ll ever do.” If Kiryu can put this touch of wisdom onto K.O., maybe he can, in turn, believe that Nishiki can return to his good-hearted self. It might be a silly and childish wish, but Kiryu truly did wish for Nishiki to feel worthy again.
Tumblr media
“Your friends see you as a child because you are a child.” That much was true. “But a child can be respected just as much as an adult. They should. Just because you’re a kid doesn’t negate the things you’re feeling.” Hopefully these words could reach down deep and get him to relax. “And you should trust them because you wouldn’t be friends in the first place if you didn’t trust them. So trust them. No man is an island.”
