re: manhunts, I simply watched the first few several years ago, and it quickly became obvious to me they were at least partly staged. Too perfect, too many close calls, looked like a movie. (Imagine there was an actual competitive manhunt game format - would most games in it look like that?) That's not the worst thing in the world, but, if they were in fact staged, the he's been spinning a huge elaborate web of lies ever since to not have to admit it, which is the really egregious thing.

I don't find this compelling, and there isn't really anything obvious about it. Several counterpoints:

Dream has made at least two videos (stream clips, I think) refuting and explaining various suspicious moments in the manhunts, which can be found on YouTube by searching "dream manhunt staged" and scrolling down a bit. It's been a while since I watched them, but they seemed convincing when I did. The convincingness of these explanations is at least moderate evidence against staging-- at least in these parts of the manhunts (which were the very parts that some critics thought were the most suspicious).

From the search, I see a few people have made newer videos (in the last several months) claiming that at least some of his later videos, like some of the Five Hunters, were staged. I have not watched these and don't know if they're refutable in a similar manner to the older ones, so I have to leave it an open question on the later ones for now.

There are also a few unedited manhunts, which each have multiple amazing "close calls" that are clearly unstaged. This includes two of the Five Hunters videos. If these particular manhunts and their close calls were unstaged, this doesn't by itself prove all the manhunts were unstaged, but it does prove that all the manhunts easily could be unstaged.

The unedited manhunts are on DreamXD channel, and they include (1) Minecraft Manhunt UNEDITED 4 Hunters FINALE, (2) UNCUT Minecraft Manhunt VS 5 Hunters, and (3) Minecraft Manhunt UNEDITED 5 Hunters FINALE REMATCH.

We also know there is some number of discarded manhunts where Dream dies in the first few minutes, which usually aren't released; so there is a selection effect. The more successful manhunts are the ones that get uploaded in the first place.

The intense editing and dramatic music also increases the feeling of fakeness. This is a large part of why it looks like a movie, but it should not be mixed up with evidence for staging.

Moreover, Dream has admitted to editing together audio from multiple clips. So there is some fakery to the audio. However, I think his explanation of why he did this makes sense.

A lot of people have done their own Mancraft Manhunts with their friends, inspired by Dream. I have not done this or watched videos of it. Anecdotally, my impression is that some people doing this say they often do have amazing moments and close calls. But I have not confirmed this.

I spent several months convinced Dream had intentionally cheated in speedrunning; during that period, I raised my credence toward thinking he also partially staged the manhunts (since if he would lie about the more important speedrunning, then it was more likely he'd lie about the less important manhunts). After the Karl Jobst video explaining how Dream likely cheated by accident, I again lowered my credence toward the notion that he did staging in the manhunts.
