A training I did based on a sculpture by Pierre Julien which is exposed in the Louvre: "The Dying Gladiator". The drawing does not honor the perfection of the statue 😅 but I could not help but make him hairy and bearded 😋 ooops !
Interstellar Wanderer 💫
Initially, I just wanted to paint a naked male figure starting from a blot. But my love for space and cold shades wins and it ended up with glowing cosmic illustration with blue man among the stars✨
By the way, while drawing I thought that he looks a bit like a silver surfer 🤔🤙👽
A lot of people ask me why I don't paint men more often. The reason (apart from being more inspired by female bodies, and of course, relating more to the female experience) is the shortage of more emotional male references. I usually work with references from royalty free image banks and use to spend a long time trying to find something that will resonate with my work. It's getting better, but the image of the muscly macho dude is still more prevalent over images that tell stories of humanity and fragility.
