THE DAY THE LOOP ENDS, sebastian vettel steps out of his car having won a formula one grand prix. he walks onto the podium to the sound of resounding boos, and indignant shouts, and the suffocating, unbearable force of mark webber's quiet rage beside him.
it's march 24, 2013. he's in malaysia at the moment. that's an understatement; he's been in malaysia for days, weeks, months, if not years. he's abandoned the paddock more than once, hopped on flights out of the country in business class and spent his days in transit alone. he's talked to the most interesting people he's ever met, brokenly stuttering through languages he doesn't speak. he's fucked more people, spreading his legs for anybody who'll look at him twice. he's tried murder, but only once, and in a fit of nihilism, and desperation, and anger. it was messier than trying to end his own existence. he's woken up every morning at seven on the dot on sunday, march 24, by heikki knocking on his door, even if he never falls asleep.
he's spent the most time with mark, which is surprising, or maybe not surprising in the least. in the race, sometimes mark will come first, and sometimes he'll come second. tyres never degrade the same way. the wind blows too hard in one direction. the mercedes boys have a fractious relationship, moreso than even his and mark's, and they pull crazy stunts. pit stops go well and fail miserably at random.
it feels good to win on track and get a leg up over his rival, if only for a day. on his worst days, it feels better to get his leg up in a different sense. those are the nights he spends staring at the digital clock in mark's hotel room, some loops cuddling, other loops so far apart that it's like they've never touched. and he'll tell mark the same story he tells him every time:
i'm stuck reliving the same day over and over again. i don't know how to get out.
depending on how serious he sounds, or how close they are, mark either believes him or doesn't. he's looked the other man in the eyes and confessed his love, or his hate, or any one of the feelings that curl around his heart like barbed wire. it's not like what he say matters much in the end; the clock strikes 12, and then it's 7 in the morning, and heikki is yelling at him to get off his lazy ass.
he's played chicken with the universe for an eternity, and become the worst person he's ever known.
so it's—it needs to be some cosmic joke, right? that this is how it ends? traitor to the team, unnecessary career-killer, champion fallen from grace? after all the terrible things he's done, the actions that stain him forever are the ones he made today?
"i messed up," seb tries to explain while they wait to enter the post-race press conference. "i didn't mean to, i just messed up."
mark can't even look him in the eye.
"yeah, well." he sniffs. "actions have consequences."
i killed you, seb wants to confess. i crashed into you on purpose just to see what would happen, and i snapped your neck and broke your body into pieces.
he swallows empty air, instead. "yeah."
THE DAY AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, hanna asks him what's wrong.
"nothing," he blinks. after all, he's broken free from the clutches of time itself. he's back home with the woman he's committed the rest of his life to. isn't this his happily ever after?
she gives him an uncertain smile. she doesn't press the issue.
TWO DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb thinks about buying a single plane ticket with money he's just earned and flying back to malaysia, no return ticket. just to see if the days have really passed by, if his belongings are still haphazardly shoved in the corner of a hotel room, if he can still knock on the next door over and see mark.
"hanna," he says to an empty room, apropos of nothing. "hanna?"
she's on the porch reading a book. she's been reading the same book for eternity. seb stares at the pages, the words far too small to make out from his viewpoint halfway out the front door.
with a small hum, she glances up at him. "are you okay?"
his vision is doubled through the glass, in the odd way the light refracts off its surface. when he blinks, the effect doesn't lessen.
THREE DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb wakes up at seven in the morning, and sees the time, and stops breathing with a suddenness that leaves him shaking violently.
off your ass, seb, c'mon. let's g—
FOUR DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb gets a call.
"we'll get a lawyer," hanna promises him, darkly, her voice tight and irritated and jesus fucking christ, seb wants to swear. she won't let the axe fall on his neck. why won't she let the axe fall on his neck?
FIVE DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb drives like a madman all the way to the nearest city proper so he can buy a newspaper. he's dressed in old sweatpants and hasn't washed his hair in days (weeks, months, years? no, it was tuesday, it was just tuesday—) and he probably looks like a complete lunatic, shoving too much money at the stranger running the kiosk just to grip the paper with white knuckles and sprint back to his car and breathe so hard in the driver's seat he almost passes out. but there it is: march 29. 2013.
SIX DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, and seb is supposed to be much farther along in his prep for china than he is. red bull has some red bullshit lined up, some PR nonsense that he's contractually obligated to fulfill next week. it's infinitely strange to think about the future.
A WEEK AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb is convinced he's back inside it. it's seven in the morning. somebody is knocking on the door. it's sunday. if he opens his eyes, he will see the popcorn ceiling of the hotel room and—
A WEEK AND A DAY AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb is not sure what to do about mark crashing their place. hanna treats him politely like a houseguest, though her stiff smile belies the anger seb knows she feels.
it's probably not his fault, he could say. that damned manager of his, she gets into his head. sometimes he'll tell me as much after he rips a new hole in my ass with his cock.
"i killed you," he admits, bluntly, finally, like a dull knife that's broken through skin.
he sips at his tea. it burns his tongue.
mark, to his credit, does not flinch. "you'll wish you killed me."
A WEEK AND TWO DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, and they are on a flight to china.
"i've jumped out of a plane before," says seb to mark's sleeping face. "i've punched a man and opened the emergency door and jumped out without a parachute."
"no, you haven't," mark mumbles tiredly, his eyebrows furrowing and a thunderous frown creeping onto the thin line of his mouth. he's right. seb didn't punch a man; he simply opened the rear door when the stewards weren't there and let himself plummet.
"i think i'm stuck again." seb confesses. they're words better reserved for god or some other deity, not his teammate.
this time, mark opens his eyes.
"it's so much worse for me," he murmurs, "if you feel bad."
"i don't feel bad." this is a fundamental misunderstanding. seb doesn't really regret what he did in malaysia; he'd do it again, in any and every time loop.
mark snorts softly, and turns his head to the aisle. "whatever."
A WEEK AND THREE DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb wakes up in a hotel room. it's seven in the morning. heikki and britta are arriving in a couple hours. the ceiling is smooth white paint.
still half-undressed, he pads barefoot to the door, and shuts one eye, and squints out the peephole at the warped hallway. the optical illusion sometimes feels more real than the straight lines and straight lanes that define his schedule.
A WEEK AND FOUR DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb sits alone at a press conference for two and tries not to blink.
"i was racing. i was faster. i passed him." i've imagined the sound of mark webber's spine being ripped from his body vertebra by vertebra. "i won."
A WEEK AND FIVE DAYS AFTER THE LOOP ENDS, seb is back in the car. it's like no time has passed at all.

as the anon that asked for the race list: thank you!
now this is totally up to you if you have the time to spend on this, but this is my first year watching the races, and while I've been doing some background research to get up to speed, there is still a lot i don't know. i trust your judgment so what are some races and/or f1 adjacent things i should look into? i'm going through your McLaren list and have watched the last 4 seasons of dts and the brawn documentary. are there any other books/ documentaries/ races (especially seb's) / old youtube videos that are lost in the void that i should also check out?
again no pressure and thank you!
no problem!
(and btw welcome to f1 and the world of watching some glorified hot wheels every other sunday 😁 it’s great!)
i completely get how daunting it can be as a new fan in the sport. when i was getting back into f1 it also took me some time to get back up to speed with everything, especially all the techy stuff; i honestly learned the most through just watching the races (old and new), bc you get to see all the strategies play out, the pit-stops, the overtakes etc. and the terminology just becomes much easier to understand through sheer exposure. there are also some really cool f1 data analysis blogs you might want to follow on twt/x if you want some more detailed tech analysis and graphs if you’re into that sort of thing: (x)
as for seb, oh there’s a whole arsenal of recs i have!
monza 2008, rise of torro rosso wunderkind; i presume you already know the lore with that one but ig you can never get tired of it.
abu dhabi 2010, world championship no.1 “du bist weltmeister!”
interlagos 2012, the infamous one. this one’s a rollercoaster, chaos everywhere and the manifestation of murphy’s law: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. amidst a title battle against nando, seb was fighting the weather, bruno senna’s front wing, a damaged side-pod, no radio, and somehow managed to claim p6 to win the championship
malaysia 2013, multi-21 (iconique), he was faster, deal with it. 💅
singapore 2013, domination masterclass from quali to the race. (also just all of his singapore wins...lion of singapore and all that)
india 2013, title no.3 secured, changed tyres on lap 2 and came out p17, was third by only lap 13 and then won the race by nearly 30 seconds. it was also his sixth win in a row. he went on to win three more. speaks for itself. also this:
Tumblr media
malaysia 2015, first win with ferrari, can't forget that one, also features sewis’ gay knee-touching on the podium.
germany 2019, CHAOS, in which merc got bewitched by the special livery curse 😅, with crashes, spins, 50-second long pit stops, and also features one of seb’s best drives from p20 -> p2
i also highly recommend watching Floz's fan-made docus on youtube about 'the silver war' (there are also docus for the 2014 and 2015 seasons) as well as the merc v ferrari (lewis vs seb) 2017 fight and 'fight for five' in 2018, they're so much better than dts and actually give a full run-down of what happened during the season, with all the action on-track, with interviews and providing all the context! it's so well-edited as well (you literally feel like you're watching a movie about all of the seasons) and they are just incredibly fun to watch.
in general, i love rewatching races from 2017/18 (literally my comfort seasons), personal favs include spain 2017 (strategy galore and lewis v seb), baku 2017 (for obv reasons), austin 2017; and basically the 2018 season in its entirety...
as for books, there are many driver autobiographies e.g. jb (he’s even got two lmao), mark webbah etc. but i think the best f1 book out there is adrian newey’s memoir ‘how to build a car’ if you want lore + great insight into cars!
i’d also recommend watching some older races (i could do a separate post on which ones are my personal favs) but it’s all up to you in the end! go digging, look around on yt for some highlights and just keep exploring! 🫶💜

Cautiously Optimistic - Liberty Media Buying MotoGP
So, Liberty Media, owners of Formula One, are officially trying to buy MotoGP. This has been rumored for the last few months, with Dorna Sports - the parent company of MotoGP and World Superbike - had spent the last few years making the kind of moves you'd make before a big sale. The launch of sprint races in MotoGP, appointing a new CCO in the form of Dan Rossomondo, and expanding the calendar with new races in new markets.
Nevertheless, there were always question marks over whether Liberty Media could own both MotoGP and Formula One, because precedent suggested they could not. As Simon Patterson reported for the Race, in 2006, CVC Capital Partners acquired Formula One and thus European regulators ordered them to sell off MotoGP. Thus, MotoGP was sold to another private equity firm, Bridgepoint. Bridgepoint would then acquire World Superbike in 2013, and evidently owning the two premier global motorcycle racing series didn't seem to bother any regulators at that point.
I can't help but combine that with a quote from Dan Rossomondo made at some point while being the Chief Commercial Officer of MotoGP. Rossomondo said, essentially, that MotoGP doesn't just compete with other racing series, it competes with going out for a walk, listening to music, and all the other things you could do on a Sunday instead of sitting down and watching a motorcycle race.
Was that more than just an innocuous quote? Maybe it's a hint of how Dorna and Liberty will make their case to various regulatory bodies to justify this merger.
Whether or not that's true, Liberty Media seems confident that they're going to pass regulatory approval. How exactly that'll happen remains to be seen - some have suggested that World Superbike will be sold off as a sort of sacrificial lamb to allow this to happen - but it now seems like MotoGP and F1 will very likely end up under the same ownership.
So...what does that mean for MotoGP?
Well, it means that the company that turned F1 into this trendy giant of a series is going to give some of that marketing love to MotoGP. That can only be a good thing - MotoGP is fantastic racing and it deserves more attention.
Will MotoGP see a move from historic venues to chase new markets? I would argue that it already has. Dorna has already been chasing emerging markets and a simple look at the calendar will show that - Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India, etc, etc. Not only that, but that's arguably a necessary decision for MotoGP because, quite frankly, those are the countries that are buying motorcycles these days. 1000cc sport bikes? Not necessarily, but quite frankly, KTM doesn't even make a 1000cc sport bike, so MotoGP has become more of a showcase of the motorcycle industry rather than a marketing tool for a particular type of motorcycle.
Will this result in MotoGP chasing street circuits like F1 did? Well, Liberty Media has already said no, and as much as the word of giant corporations is worthless in 2024, simple safety concerns make it unfeasible. MotoGP needs a ton of space and big gravel traps to stop the bikes - and more importantly, the riders - in the kind of dramatic crashes that can happen in this sport.
What do I think will happen? Well, in the short term, not much, but come 2026, 2027 when circuit contracts start expiring, I suspect we'll lose a few existing venues - having four races in Spain presents an obvious opportunity for some trimming - and probably gain another race in the US (likely that Flatrock track in Tennessee) and if I had to guess, another one in East Asia, most likely China.
Maybe India will pave the way towards MotoGP reviving old, disused F1 tracks, and we could see the likes of South Korea and Istanbul Park added to the MotoGP calendar. If not MotoGP, then WSBK with a Turkish star in the form of Toprak Razgatlioglu really ought to consider it.
Anyway, the way I see it, the legitimate criticisms that F1 fans have with Liberty Media - being greedy, chasing new venues at the expense of historic ones, pushing the teams hard by constantly expanding the schedule - is all stuff that Dorna has already been doing. Even the complaints about the Drive to Survive drama, Dorna has tried two different DTS clones and neither one moved the needle. If you're going to be doing these things anyway, you might as well do them with the company that has at least been successful with it.
For now though, I have MotoGP coverage through Max and TruTV in the US, commercial free, and that's a dramatic improvement over how I had to watch the series last year. Dan Rossomondo's team has made MotoGP far more accessible and pleasant to watch already, and if that can continue under Liberty Media's ownership, then I hope this series that I've fallen in love with over the last year and a half can grow.
Thus, the overall verdict is...I'm cautiously optimistic.

Ukrainians turn a Russian Su-30SM hunted into souvenir keychains
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/14/2022 - 21:32 in Military, War Zones
Ukrainians seeking to help their Armed Forces are doing crowdfunding, selling a Russian Su-30SM Flanker-H fighter slaughtered as souvenir keychains.
The team of aviation enthusiasts of Fuselage Creations is picking up the wreckage of the latest Russian fighter and turning it into key chains. They then sell these keychains all over the world and use that money to finance the purchase of equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces.
Tumblr media
In a message posted on Facebook, Fuselage Creations said that "the result of the failed mission of 'recognition - bombing' is -1 Flanker in the Russian air force, not the last one killed nor the last one we are going to offer".
Tumblr media
The modern aircraft that was shot down is a two-seat Russian Su-30SM tactical bomber that the Ukrainian military says he knocked down in Mykolaiv Oblast. It is a rare aircraft attributed to the Russian Navy, with the tail number RF-33787, the call sign "45 Blue" and manufactured by Irkut.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
According to some reports, such as one of TASS, the Su-30SM, with a mark value of $47 million, is a super maneuverable two-seat fighter, for all climates, of 4++ generation derived from the successful Indian Su-30MKI and the Su-30MKM of Malaysia, which began to be delivered to Russian Forces in 2013.
The Russian-made Su-30SM is developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau mainly for the Russian Air Force and Navy. It is an advanced model of the Su-30MK combat aircraft series. In addition to Kazakhstan and Russia, the armed forces of Algeria, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Uganda, Venezuela and Vietnam have Su-30MK series aircraft.

KNOW THE Insights concerning THE 4D LOTTO RESULTS TODAY MALAYSIA
As Malaysia is the nation where the lottery was first played by the kid in Kedah, it reliably obtains more week by week 4D results than other nation does. The Number Gauge Administrators in Malaysia, who the Malaysian government has approved, will deliver the 4D lotto results today Malaysia consistently by their timetable.
A few administrators of 4D games hold drawings daily and afterward distribute the results of those draws, expanding the number of winners daily. Results are in many cases declared on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays by other 4d administrators. The Tuesday lottery game, however, created a few excellent results that essentially expanded the number of winners.
Find out About The 4D Lottery
In Malaysia, many individuals play the lottery game known as 4-Digits (4D)。 The players have the option of choosing any number somewhere in the range of 0000 and 9999. Each time, after the choice of the numbers, the 23 winning numbers are then taken aimlessly from the pool. A player is qualified to win a prize in the event that their chose numbers harmonize with any of the 23 numbers drawn. The 4D Lotto Malaysia is a game with predetermined odds.
The Most Well known Kind Of Lottery
Lately, 4D lotto results today Malaysia has detonated in search history, because of the famous lottery game in Malaysia and a peculiarity known across Asia. This makes it even more vital to figure out how to win at magnum toto 4d wagering. Magnum toto 4d result has become more well known among the people who need to bet on the results of sports occasions, shows, and different sorts of amusement.
The forthcoming lottery winners pick it over different options available in Malaysia owing to the bigger prizes and the more clear interactivity that the lottery gives. The game's gigantic fame has resulted in the creation of numerous online gambling clubs, which can all be gotten to whenever and from any spot since they are undeniably facilitated online.
Win Enormous In 4D Online Lottery
You have revealed the one unmistakable method for raking in some serious cash. This is a rundown of the way you could work on your odds of winning by checking the 4D lotto results today Malaysia. The magnum 4d live is and has been, for quite a while, one of Malaysia's most well known betting games. A few organizations have been offering this game among their other notable club games since it previously appeared in 2013.
The fact that you needn't bother with any past knowledge or specific preparation to play this game might be an essential factor in its unexpected move to noticeable quality in Malaysia. They might hop in and start playing on the off chance that they know how to add and count. Because of the irregular idea of magnum toto 4d, anyone can win paying little mind to how much cash they have recently paid for tickets.

Political engagement: collision of Esports/ video games and politics
Esports and genuine communities
Esports unite people worldwide. Gamers play, communicate, laugh, and enjoy a beloved hobby in apparently unlimited virtual worlds while being miles away. Online games render physical identity irrelevant, and everybody has an equal standing (Stuart 2013). People who are experiencing the feelings of isolation or who are rejected or excluded in the ‘reality’ could freely express themselves in a safe, nurturing, and accepting environment (Barzani 2016). This is where sincere, long-lasting friendships grow; where genuine virtual communities compose of individuals who share common interests, sentiments, or aspirations blossom through the transcendence of geography, race, culture, politics, and religion (Techopedia 2016; Pohran n.d.). Should politics have a place in this gamers’ oasis?
Tumblr media
Esports/ video games as political tools
Esports are increasingly being used as tool to wide diplomatic influence. The influence here refers to soft power. Soft power is defined as the ability to influence and attract others in order to enhance perception and form preferences. The first way to through government funding. For example, the Malaysia Esports industry has received $2.4 million funding form the Malaysia’s minister of youth in 2019. Other methods of promotion include the construction of Esports arenas like the Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas. There also has been a recent trend in China's higher education system to include e-sports into a growing number of degree programs and vocational tracks (Bahuguna 2021). Several key innovations that have contributed to e-sports' meteoric rise in popularity have originated in Asia. But the question remains whether foreign policy goals can be accomplished with this level of commitment.
Political mobilization and authoritative repression in action via online games is a growing trend. The game on Nintendo Switch, Animal Crossing specifically, is being used political campaigns to educate and provide voters with information and updates as the games allow players to create and customize their own islands.
Tumblr media
A few examples are the Canada’s 2021 federal election campaign, 2020, Biden-Harris presidential campaign, and democratic protest in Hong-Kong (Joshua Wong). With that being said, three trends are emerging in geopolitical games. First, political campaigns in democratic democracies use video games to target young voters. Second, video games as digital platforms threaten authoritarian governments' political stability, thus digital tyrants limit access and censor content. Third, game businesses wanting to operate in the U.S. and China must examine the political and economic ramifications of their content and activities.
Source: (Trithara 2021).
Let’s talk about the Esports in China. In 2021, a new law has been enacted by the China’s National Press and Publication Administration where teenagers (below 18 years old) are only allowed to play video games for three hours per week (Friday 8-9 p.m., Saturday 8-9 p.m., and Sunday 8-9 p.m.) (Chen & Zhang 2021).
Tumblr media
On the surface, this seems like a measure just to curb the additive behavior of teenagers. However, there was speculation that the Chinese government want to widen its monitoring capabilities throughout the society and restricts technologies companies out of concern for the influence of Western culture (Trithara 2021). On another note, Chinese government is also worrying about men losing masculinity character due to gaming, consequently, losing competencies to defend the country when needed (Chalk 2021).
I saw a post on Reddit discussing about this topic, then I saw an intriguing question:
“What is the possibility that the Chinese government is using the gaming platform as a means to limit players from being exposed to certain ideas or ideologies while also utilizing gaming as a means to condition players towards certain trains of thoughts or agendas that are in mind?” To read the whole article, please visit this link:
The detrimental effect
Esports organization are now forbidding players who are still minor from participating in tournaments and events. You might be thinking, why is that a big deal? In esports, professionals usually spend more than 8 hours a day to practice in order to maintain their competitiveness. Not to mention, many young players are scouted when they are about 14 years old. The reason being teenagers have the greatest reaction speed and mechanical skills. Esports industry in China shall lose opportunities to foster talented players and thus losing the opportunities to win major tournament around the globe.
Source: (Chen & Zhang 2021).
Tumblr media
Bottom line: Esports as community shaper
In the end, I feel like there needs to be a balance between politics and Esports. Governments and politicians should note that Esports, just like sports, has the power of uniting people genuinely. People got together simply because they enjoy spending time together. The top performers of Esports (or more commonly addressed as superstar) are excellent influencers that create enormous fandoms around the games they play (Freeman 2022). The same goes to content creators or popular streamers on Twitch (for example). They are one of the biggest factors Esports industry is turning into a multibillion-dollar industry besides keeping players engaged in a game. In essence, too much politics will corrupt the Esports/ video games ecosystem.

As part of the Summit, on Sunday, August 14, participants went to the HJ Global Arts Center in Seorak, outside of Seoul, for a memorial program hosted by Hak Ja Han honoring her late husband Sun Myung Moon.
Leaders from all over the world sent messages, including Kim Jong Un, the Supreme Leader of the DPRK (North Korea): "Rev. Moon worked for the sake of world peace… and his achievements and legacy will be remembered for eons... We would like to wish prosperity and success to the International Family Federation and UPF." Kim sent flowers to the event.
Mike Pompeo, former CIA Director and US State Secretary, spoke in-person for ten minutes, hailing Moon and his accomplishments. Earlier that week, Pompeo spoke at the UPF event on religious liberty, likely due to the events in Japan.
