Hi Jess! Sorry for taking so long to answer these asks! I love this ask meme and thank you so much for making it!!
🧠 (Brain Candy or Death Comes To Town): I've gone back and forth on this one so many times. I wouldn't turn to either of them for sheer entertainment, for different reasons. Obviously, Brain Candy tonally is... interesting, and the behind-the-scenes story definitely colours it for me. The partial absence of Dave upsets the balance of the group (if anyone ever says that KITH had a weak link and it was Dave, show them this movie). On the other hand, it's incisive, shows up capitalism, and the dark comedy in this is actually quite compelling. I understand why it wasn't a box office smash, but I do really like it.
Now, Death Comes To Town. This one would be more of a straightforward comedy viewing if I were able to turn my brain off when it comes to a few things in this. Unfortunately, I can't. My issue with it is mostly to do with how Indigenous people are portrayed and I have a lot of thoughts on this that I really want to write up properly at some point. I'd really like to ask Bruce McCulloch exactly what his intentions were in the characters and if he'd make the same choices now. I think it would be an interesting conversation. (I also had a bit of an issue with the pacing.) However, I did enjoy watching it, some characters I fell utterly in love with (Marnie, Ricky <3), and the backstory to this one with Scott's cancer and the theme of the series is heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time.
In the end, weighing it all, I think I'd go for Brain Candy.

i am SO excited for my halloween costume this year y'all have no idea
