Travels of Ahmad bin Hanbal in seeking knowledge
The red arrows show how he travelled throughout the Muslim world, from Khorasan to what is nowadays Morocco, in his search for knowledge.....
Al Koofah (city located in what is known today as Iraq), Al bassrah (city located in today's Iraq), Makkah Al mukarramah, Al madeenah Al munawwara, ash Shaam (Syria- Palestine), ath thagour, Al Maghrib (Morocco, Algeria), Faaris (Persia), Khorasan (in today's north Eastern Iran)...
See how our scholars used to strive to seek knowledge, traversing seas and wastelands, benefitting through their steps Islam and the Muslims. Their words enlightened our paths with guidance, so may Allah have mercy on them all.
⚠️Therefore, O seeker of knowledge, do not be lazy, and do not be negligent in finding understanding and guidance, for these are your pious predecessors, who gave their due, during their lifetimes, and filled their time with kheir (all that is good); they benefitted (many) countries with their knowledge, and (will do so) until the Day of Judgment.
We ask Allāh to benefit us with their knowledge, and to bless us with imitating their morals and behaviour. Allāh is capable of everything.

Fasting on ‘Ashura (10th Of Muharram)
(In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful).
Introduction
We are in Muharram, the first month of the Hijri Calendar, 1445 A.H. It is a sacred month and the Prophet ﷺ used to fast a lot in this month. One of these days that the Prophet ﷺ used to fast is the Day of ‘Ashura (the 10th Day of Muharram).
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
I never saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) so keen to make sure he fasted any day and preferring it over another except this day,the day of ‘Ashoora’, and this month – meaning Ramadaan.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2006.
Why did the Prophet ﷺ fast on ‘Ashura
Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashoora’.
He said, “What is this?”
They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day.”
He said, “We are closer to Moosa than you.” So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (2004)
Virtues for fasting on ‘Ashura
Fasting on ‘Ashura expiates the (minor) sins of the past year.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.
Narrated by Muslim, 1162
How to fast ‘Ashura
It is recommended when fasting ‘Ashura to also fast Taasua’ (the 9th Day of Muharram).
‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora and told the people to fast, they said, “O Messenger of Allaah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Next year, if Allaah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.” But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had passed away.
Narrated by Muslim, 1134.

THE REASON FOR FASTING THE DAY OF ASHURA:
(the 10th day of Muharram)
The Prophet ﷺ came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of 'Ashoora. He said, "What is this?"
They said, "This is a good day, This is the day when Allah caused Musa and the children of Israel to have victory over Pharaoh, "
He ﷺ said, “We are closer to Musa than you.” So he ﷺ fasted on this day and told the people to fast.

Is it permissible for a woman to do her household duties when she is junub?
Question:
Is it permissible for a woman to do her usual household duties such as cooking, looking after the children, and housework, before she does ghusl following intercourse?
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
It is haraam for the person who is junub (in a state of impurity following sexual activity) to pray, perform tawaaf, stay in the mosque, recite Qur’aan or touch the Mushaf. Everything else is permissible.
There is nothing wrong with a woman who is junub cooking, looking after her house, taking care of her children or fulfilling any other needs. This is indicated by several pieces of evidence including the following:
(a) It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) met him on one of the roads of Madeenah when he was junub. He said: I turned back and went and did ghusl, then I came. He said: “Where were you, O Abu Hurayrah?” I said: “I was junub and I did not like to sit with you when I was not in a state of purity.” He said, “Subhaan Allaah, the Muslim does not become impure.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 279; Muslim, 371.
Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said: This indicates that it is permissible to delay doing ghusl from the time when it first becomes obligatory, and that it is permissible for the one who is junub to go about his business.
Fath al-Baari, 1/391.
It is better for the one who is junub to hasten to do ghusl, lest he forgets that he is junub. And it is recommended for him to do wudoo’ before he touches food and drink and before going to sleep. That is better than doing these things when he is junub. But this wudoo’ is not obligatory, rather it serves to reduce the impurity, and it is mustahabb. There are a number of ahaadeeth concerning that, including the following:
(i) It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said: When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was junub and wanted to eat or sleep, he would do wudoo’ as for prayer. (Narrated by Muslim, 305).
(ii) It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab asked the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Can one of us go to sleep when he is junub?” He said: “Yes, if he does wudoo’ then he can go to sleep when he is junub.” (narrated by al-Bukhaari, 283; Muslim, 306)
Al-Nawawi said: This indicates that it is mustahabb to do wudoo’ and to wash one's private parts before doing all these things, especially if the man wants to have intercourse with a wife with whom he has not yet had intercourse. It is definitely mustahabb to wash one's private part. Our companions have stated that it is makrooh to sleep, eat, drink or have intercourse before doing wudoo’, and these ahaadeeth indicate that. There is no dispute among us that this wudoo’ is not obligatory. This is also the view of Maalik and the majority.
Sharh Muslim, 3/217
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said:
It is mustahabb for the one who is junub to do wudoo’ if he wants to eat, drink, sleep or have intercourse again, but it is makrooh for him to sleep if he has not done wudoo’. It was proven in al-Saheeh that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked, “Can one of us go to sleep when he is junub?” He said: “Yes, if he does wudoo’ as for prayer…”
Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 21/343
And Allah knows best.

ISLAM 101: Your Pilgrimage: Part 1
Your Pilgrimage
Hajj, the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Makkah, is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is an act of worship which not only involves the heart but also requires physical and financial ability and must be carried out by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so once in his lifetime. As the Qur’an states, “Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by people who are able to undertake it. Those who reject this [should know that] Allah has no need of anyone.” (Soorat Aal-‛Imraan, 3:97)
Hajj
The Importance and Virtues of Makkah and the Sacred Mosque
The Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haraam) is located in Makkah, a city on the western side of the Arabian
Peninsula, and has numerous virtues including the following:
1) It houses the Ka‛bah
The Ka‛bah is a cube-shaped building located at the centre of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah.
It is the direction towards which Muslims turn in prayer as well as during some other acts of worship which Allah May He be glorified and exalted commands them to do.
It was built by Prophet Abraham Peace be upon him and his son Ishmael Peace be upon him following Allah’s command to do so, and was rebuilt several times throughout history.
As the Qur’an states, “And when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka‛bah), [they prayed:] ‘Our Lord, accept this from us, for You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.’” (Soorat Al-Baqarah, 2:127)
Prophet Muhammad May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him himself took part in laying the Black Stone in its proper place along with the various Makkan tribes when they rebuilt the Ka‛bah.
2) It was the first mosque ever built on earth
Abu Dharr May Allah be pleased with him, one of the Prophet’s noble companions, once asked the Prophet May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, “Messenger of Allah, which mosque was built first on earth?” “The Sacred Mosque [in Makkah], he replied. Abu Dharr again asked, “Which was next?” “Al-Aqsaa Mosque [in Jerusalem],” he replied. “How long was the period between them?” Abu Dharr further enquired, “Forty years,” the Prophet May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him replied. “Wherever you may be and the prayer time becomes due,” he continued, “offer the prayer there, for virtue lies in offering the prayers at their due times.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree: 3186, Saheeh Muslim: 520)
3) The reward for offering prayers in it is multiplied many times over
The Prophet May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him said, “One prayer in this mosque of mine [in Madeenah] is better than a thousand prayers in any other, except the Sacred Mosque [in Makkah], and one prayer in the Sacred Mosque is better than one hundred thousand prayers anywhere else.” (Sunan Ibn Maajah: 1406; Musnad Ahmad: 14694)
4) Allah May He be glorified and exalted and His Messenger May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him have declared it sacred
As the Qur’an states, “I have been ordered to worship the Lord of this city which He has declared sacred; everything belongs to Him; and I have been ordered to be one of the Muslims.” (Soorat An-Naml, 27:91) This verse makes it plain that Allah has declared Makkah a sanctuary and has thus forbidden people from committing injustices or shedding blood in it, chasing its game or cutting down its trees or grass. The Prophet May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him once observed, “Allah, not the people, has made Makkah a sanctuary; therefore, any person who believes in Allah and the Last Day should neither shed blood in it nor cut down its trees.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree: 104; Saheeh Muslim: 1354)
5) It is the dearest of all lands to Allah May He be glorified and exalted and His Messenger May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him
One of the Prophet’s companions once said, “I saw Allah’s Messenger May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him sitting on his camel in the Al-Hazwarah market, addressing Makkah thus, “By Allah, you are the best and the dearest of all lands of Allah to Him. Had I not been driven out of you, I would have never left you.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhee: 3925; An-Nasaa’ee’s As-Sunan Al-Kubraa: 4252)
6) Allah May He be glorified and exalted has made pilgrimage to the Sacred House obligatory upon all those who are able to do so
Abraham Peace be upon him proclaimed pilgrimage to the people and they came to perform it from distant places. According to a Prophetic tradition, all the prophets performed hajj to the Sacred House. Regarding Allah’s command to Abraham Peace be upon him in this respect, the Qur’an states, “Announce hajj to mankind. They will come to you on foot and on every sort of lean animal, coming by every distant road.” (Soorat Al-Hajj, 22:27)

The Will of Shaykh al-Albāni, May Allāh Bestow Mercy Upon Him and Grant Him the Highest Abode in Paradise For His Service to the Religion of Islām.
I advise my loved ones; my wife, my children and my friends to supplicate to Allāh for His forgiveness and mercy when they receive the news of my passing.
Firstly, I request that they refrain from wailing loudly or crying excessively.
Secondly, I urge them to bury me as soon as possible without informing any of my relatives or friends except those necessary for the burial arrangements. I also request that my neighbour and sincere friend, ’Izzat Khidr Abu ‘Abd-Allāh, be responsible for washing my body with the help of anyone he chooses.
Thirdly, I would like to be buried in the closest graveyard available to avoid being transported in a car. I also request that the followers of the funeral procession do not ride in cars. Furthermore, I prefer an old graveyard to ensure that the graves will not be exhumed. Moreover, I ask those who reside in the same area where I pass away not to inform my children who live in other places until after my burial. This is to prevent them from being overwhelmed with emotions and to avoid any delay in the funeral.
I beseech Allāh, that I meet Him, while having my past and future sins forgiven.
I also bequeath my entire library of printed books, copies, and manuscripts - that of my handwriting and the handwriting of others - to the library of the Islamic University of al-Madeenah, because it holds good memories for me - in inviting to the Book and the Sunnah and following the methodology of the pious predecessors and successors, during my teaching tenure.
My hope is that Allāh makes this resource a source of benefit for the leaders of the da'wah in that region, just as its previous owner had benefited the students there in the past. I pray that through their support and supplications, Allah will continue to guide me and enable me to serve others with sincerity.
“My Lord! Inspire me to ˹always˺ be thankful for Your favours which You blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please You. And instil righteousness in my offspring. I truly repent to You, and I truly submit ˹to Your Will˺.”
Surah al-Ahqāf, al-āyah 15

RATS ARE AGENTS OF SHAITAN.
We underestimate rats so much, and we even overlook them and allow them to live with us for months or years, but in reality, they are agents of Shaitan. The prophet salallahu alayhi wassalam termed them 'Fuwaysiqah' evil doers. Most houses that suddenly burns without a known cause might be as a result of the rats in it.
.
Ibn ‘Abbas said:
A mouse (or rat) came one night and started dragging the wick (of the lantern). It threw the lantern in front of rasuluLlah salallahu alayhi wassalam, on the mat in which he was sitting, and it burnt a portion like the size of a dirham.
He said: “When you are going to sleep, extinguish your lamps, for the Shaytaan will order creatures such as this to do something like this so that you will be burned.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, 5427)
.
A rat once burned a companion along with all his family and wiped out the entire lineage on one night.
Abu Moosa al-Ash’ari said: A house in Madeenah got burned down along with all the people inside. When the prophet heard about it, he said:
“This fire is an enemy to you, so when you go to sleep, extinguish it.”
(Bukhari/Muslim)
Jabir ibn Abdillah said, the prophet said:
Cover your utensils and tie your water skins, close your doors and keep your children close to you at night, because the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away. When you go to bed, off your lights, for the evil-doer (the rat) may drag the wick of the candle and burn all the dwellers of the house.
(Saheeh Bukhari 3316).
Rats are so dangerous to humans that they are one of the five animals that are Halal to be killed everywhere including in the sacred Ka'bah or during Ihram. They also consume food and cause plagues.

ʿAmr Bin Thābit [رحمه الله] Said:
ʿAlī Ibnul Ḥusayn [رحمه الله] passed away and was being given a bath, they [i.e. those giving him a bath] looked at a black mark that was on his back; so they said: What is this [black mark]? They [i.e. some other people who were present] said: He used to carry a sack of flour at night to give to the poor people of Madeenah.

Al-Imaam Maalik and the Sons of the Khaleefah
When the Khaleefah, Muhammad al-Mahdee, arrived in Madeenah, he sent for Al-Imaam Maalik - rahimahullah. When the latter arrived, the Khaleefah said to his two sons, Haarun and Musa: 'Hear (knowledge) from him.'
Later, Imaam Maalik - rahimahullah - was sent for to attend to his new students, but he refused to answer the call.
When the Khaleefah was told of what Imaam Maalik did, he spoke to him about that. Imaam Maalik repsonded: 'O Leader of the Faithful, knowledge is to be sought from its possessor.'
The Khaleefah agreed with Imaam Maalik thus he instructed his sons: 'Go to him.'
So the sons of the Khaleefah went to Imaam Maalik. When they got to him, they said to him, 'read to us.'
Imaam Maalik - rahimahullah - responded: 'Verily the people of Madeenah do read to their scholars as kids read to their teachers, so that if they make mistakes, they will correct them.'
The sons went back to their father to report Imaam Maalik. The Khaleefah once again sent for Imaam Maalik and spoke to him about the issue.
Imaam Maalik - rahimahullah - said: I heard from Ibn Shihaab (my teacher) saying: We gained this knowledge when we were young from reputable men such as Saeed bn Musayyib, Abu Salamah, Urwah, al-Qaasim, Saalim, Khaarijah Ibn Zayd, Sulaiman bn Yasaar, Naafi, Abdurrahman bn Hurmuz'.
Imaam Maalik - rahimahullah - added, 'then from those after them such as Abu Zinaad, Rabeeah, Yahya bn Saeed, Ibn Shihaab; all these people, their students used to read to them not the other way round.'
The Khaleefah said: 'In the act of those is a good emulation, (my sons) go and read to him.'
Then they did so.
(Haarun would later become 'Haarun ar-Rasheed' - Haaroon the Wise One.)
