Can you tell us who's around the table at Sam's dream team dinner? I see Alex, Davie and Wendy.

Yes Wendy is on the right in front, next to her Alex and across (left front at the table) of her is her husband. Next to Alex are Davie and his wife, Sam and Tony behind the table. The two women on the left in the back are costume designers if I'm not mistaken. The brunette is Evonne MacRitchie, and the blonde woman I think is Elle Wilson.

8 NOVEMBER 2023 || SINGAPORE VISIT : DAY IV (1/3) - TREETOP WALK, MACRITCHIE NATURE RESERVE

The Prince of Wales was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance - Lawrence Wong for a TreeTop Walk at the MacRitchie Nature Reserve on his Day Four in Singapore.

During their visit, they crossed the free-standing suspension bridge which connects the two highest points on their walking route, Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

William also met and spoke to the NPark Rangers and NPark Youth Stewards for Nature during his visit. The National Parks Board’s (NParks) Youth Stewards for Nature programme was lqunched in 2021 and is aimed at mentoring young volunteers aged 18 to 25 to carry out nature-related projects such as species population surveys and designing therapeutic gardens.

During the walk, the Prince of Wales also met Dr Isabelle Lackman - a finalist in the 2022 Earthshot Prize. She co-founded Hutan, a research organisation based in Borneo that studies and monitors the region’s biodiversity, from wild orang utan and elephant research to hornbill and frog surveys.

On November 15th 1714,  two women were executed at The Grassmarket, Edinburgh for the “crime” of being Gypsies.

The following is an extract from “ A Gypsy trial of 1714 by David MacRitchie  The Verdict had found the two other women, Jean Baillie and Agnes McDonald, equally guilty [of being gypsies] with these three. But it being pled for them, “for delaying the pronouncing of Sentence against them, That they are at present with Child,” the Court appointed a jury of matrons to establish the truth or falsity of the plea. These having certified, on the following day, that the plea was in both cases just, the Lords of Justiciary postponed consideration of the verdict, as affecting them, until “the second Monday of November next to come”; the two women being carried back to prison.

On the 15th of November, “The Lords Justice Clerk and Commissioners of Justiciary, having considered the verdict of assyse returned” in the previous August, and there being now no innocent lives at stake, they, with relentless logic, condemned “the said Agnes McDonald and Jean Baillie to be taken to the Grass-mercat of Edinburgh, upon Wednesday the Twenty fourth day of November Instant, And there, betwixt the hours of two & four in the Afternoon, To be hanged by the necks upon a Gibbet until they be dead.”

The Botanic Gardens and MacRitchie Reservoir, which are both a MRT/bus stop away or within walking distance, have always been a great way of resourcing during my 6 years in Singapore but especially in the last 2 years. On my own or with friends, a walk in nature is always a great idea.

The “garden city” vision was introduced by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on 11 May 1967 to transform Singapore into a city with abundant lush greenery and a clean environment.

Creation of intensive tree-planting programme along the roads, mandate for developers (for public and private housing) to set aside spaces for trees and greenery in projects, creation of parks to establish green spaces that provided ventilation or act as “green lungs” in built-up areas, park connectors were established as green corridors to link parks, and nature reserves were set up to preserve the nation’s natural heritage have all contributed to Singapore feeling very green (its green cover stands at 47%) even though it is the 3rd most population dense country after Macau & Monaco and just before Hong Kong. Singapore is the only country to incorporate green building requirements into its legislation.
