What better time to revisit the abandoned Lukova, Czechoslovakia St. George’s church that was built in 1352. It was closed in 1968 after the roof collapsed during a funeral. The impressive display is called “My Mind.”
Tumblr media
When artist Jakub Hadrava installed ghost sculptures made of hardened fabric, called, “My Mind,” it led to the congregation believing that the church was haunted or cursed and holding mass outside.

They sit solemnly in the pews, gather at the altar, and stand in the doorways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, I can’t say I blame the congregation for not wanting to share the church with them, but the roof has to be fixed, first anyway, I would imagine.
Tumblr media
I do think it’s a stunning art display, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly, it looks like this beautiful ancient church is deteriorating along with the sculptures.

Костёл Святого Георгия, или призраки в церкви.
Church of St. George, or ghosts in the church.

Church of St. George (Kostel sv. Jiří) - located in the Czech Republic, in the village of Lukova on the border of Karlovy Vary and Pilsen regions. The church was built in 1352 and until the sixties of the last century was an ordinary village church, but in 1968 the ceiling of the church collapsed during a funeral and local residents felt that restoring the church was too expensive.
In the following years, in addition to the ever-increasing destruction, all the movable property of the temple was stolen, including paintings, religious paraphernalia, sculptures, a tower clock and even a bell. The rest was vandalized. Not long ago, in order to preserve the church as a cultural monument, Jakub Hadrava, a student at the Faculty of Sculpture at the University of West Bohemia, came up with an idea: he populated the abandoned church with ghosts he sculpted in 2012.This is how 32 unique sculptures made of fabric impregnated with plaster appeared. The figures depict the ghosts of the Sudeten Germans who lived in the village during the Second World War and came to this church every Sunday. With this work, Khadrawa wants to show the world that this place has a history that has a great impact on people.

The Most Terrifying Church in the World
When Czech artist Jakub Hadrava was asked to help transform a dilapidated village church, he knew he would have his work cut out.
Thankfully he came up with a frightfully good idea.
Mr Hadrava has helped secure the future of the 14th century St George’s church in Lukova after creating a spooky art installation that features a collection of hooded ‘ghosts’ that line the pews and aisles.
The church, which is in the north-western Bohemia region of the Czech Republic, had initially fallen into disrepair in 1968 after the roof collapsed during a funeral service.
These veiled statues represent the ghosts of Sudeten Germans who lived in Lukova, before World War II, and used to come and pray in this church.

Part Three: Flings & Scandals
Tumblr media
In 1777, a member of the Escana Privy Council was looking for King Frederick. There was an important bill for him to sign and he, as he was wont to do in this era, was absent from his duties. This council member followed several tips until he found King Frederick in the stables.
Occupied by bending over a stable hand.
Years earlier in 1749 when Vadik Ponsonby returned to Oskya to become its king and marry his wife, Queen Lukova, we have reason to believe he was fighting with King Frederick. One letter he sent only read, “Have fun with your whores. I know the truth.”
And as if recalling this incident many years later when their relationship was much less complicated, King Vadik writes, “I do not resent you for the fond feelings we had when we were much younger men. I do hold some grudges. Oh, Fred, how honest you are when we aren’t having sex!”.
King Frederick was in fact reportedly very good at quick flings and horrible at long relationships. This is evidenced best in his marriages, some of which started out affectionate but would sour over time. But the same could be said for his paramours, and at some rates he moved alarmingly fast.
Joaquin and Lord Beldad for example who were both given good court positions for their service only had relationships with the king that lasted a number of months before he cited boredom. Joaquin would even be eventually replaced as Captain of the Guard by Prince Naldo. He built such a reputation of having quick affairs with ladies-in-waiting during the last months of his wives’ pregnancies that some queens took to specifically choosing one they found suitable to “fuck (their) husband in the interim” as crassly said by Queen Luca who only picked ladies she figured weren’t as smart as her. Queen Filipa chose a lady she thought was uglier.
This affairs did not last and they were not built to. Lady Manuela, who worked in the service of Queen Luca, was once seen leaving her mistress’ rooms with tears in her eyes and when asked why she cried that she overheard the queen asking the king what he thought of her “service”. To which, he reportedly said that it was fine but that Lady Manuela herself was “as dull as her tits”.
In fact in King Frederick’s thirty-four years as monarch, there were at least half a dozen rumors of palace servants and low-ranked courtiers quitting Graza because of similar situations. The subsequent seduction of rejection of the king was humiliating if not demoralizing and few wanted to be seen in court afterwards.
Not even in fear of seeing Frederick the Conqueror himself, but because of the gossip. In the palace’s quietest whispers, it could be heard that some had taken to calling Frederick other names.
“The Wife-Stealer.”
“The Peoples’ Lover”
And from Ambassador Oprinchuk of Oskya in Mignola to Chancellor Giachetti, she wrote offhandedly in a missive of hers about the “Whore-King of Escan”.
If such a man rejected someone, the gossip halls took no time in tearing them apart. When the handsome, young, and rich Gerardo an’Julio Garrido arrived at Graza Palace and tried to woo King Frederick during his forty-fifth birthday celebrations. Unfortunately for him, this would be the night the first signs of the king’s illness would make themselves apparent, and whether this had to do with King Frederick’s rejection of the young Gerardo mattered little to on-looking courtiers who saw nothing but a handsome man get told to leave the king’s table before he even opened his mouth. Gerardo was ridiculed and this enraged him. He would end his days in a prison cell after accusations of attempts to commit treason.
It’s also rumored that one woman was so appalled and hurt by King Frederick’s lack of interest in her that she gave up men altogether and became a nun.
While King Frederick’s health, and his lust, would decline as he neared his fifties his addiction to pleasant company did not. And in fact right up until Queen Luca’s death, he continued his habit of having quick flings with who many courtiers regarded as “small people”. Even before his marriage to Queen Cordinia, King Frederick would have what Prince Leonides would call “weekly companions”, either minor nobles of someone of little importance who he would have accompany him to events and spend time with in the evenings. And this practice would continue until eventually replaced by the continuing presence of Hartanti Telak.
But, years before the decline of King Frederick’s health and as his second son Prince Leonides was rising to prominence in the castle, there was an exchange of notes between him and his uncle Prince Sebastian written one spring morning when the king went missing. In response to his nephew's concern over his absent father, Prince Sebastian writes, “I would worry not after your father. He follows his whims, his second head, and a pretty face better than any map. He’ll return.”
And indeed, King Frederick would reappear some hours later and his privy council would spend the next six months dispelling rumors that he’d fathered a bastard in one of Graza’s bayside neighborhoods.

Miłość to dziwne słowo. Czym, do ciężkiej cholery, była miłość? Każdy miał tak odmienne zdanie na temat tego, co to dla niego znaczy, że trudno się zorientować, jak tego słowa używać.

Design Review #3
Tumblr media
This first poster is from the Thomas W. Benson Political Protest Collection. I really enjoy the rhythm and composition of this poster. The typography seems one with the visual image to create this representation of peace with the dove.
Tumblr media
I really enjoy this poster by Luba Lukova. To me, this poster calls attention to deforestation and how it is ultimately hurting the human race. The color scheme and boldness of the image brings importance to this issue.
