If you stand still, the fairies will come over and land on Link’s head 😭😭

Neri has a simple blue dress with teal bubbles on the bottom of the dress. Her hair is in a bun with a ponytail beyond it. Her wings are blue with teal tips with a shield like shape in the upper wings. Celia has yellowish green short hair. She wears a light yellow dress with a green line on the bottom of the skirt. Her wings are yellow with a simple line pattern. Leaf wears a red dress with sharp v cuts in the edges. He wears a deep red vest with long tails. Fairy friends!!! These designs are kinda my compromise between wanting consistency and wanting to keep them close to their in-game designs. Thus why the Glowing Ball Fairies have colored 'fur' (idk what it's called on insects but it's That, not fur-fur).

In universe, the difference is kinda like how the Wind Waker Healing Fairies are humanoid while the Phantom Hourglass Companion Fairies are glowing balls. The glowing fairies have higher levels of magic, and the hairs, kinda like bees, store it and make them glow.

LoZ Great Fairy Headcanons

Something about Fairy Fountains in Zelda games is interesting to me. Quite a few of them across several games has them as very decorated with stone/marble floors and braziers surrounding it. But then other games they look more like small ponds that are hidden away. And then there’s the fact that Skyward Sword doesn’t have Great Fairies at all. Under a read more because I rambled a lot

So I’m thinking that Great Fairies weren’t really a thing until after Demise was vanquished. Then as they were discovered, they were revered because their magic helped to keep the land alive along with protecting the people of Hyrule. I think they were seen as those who are close in contact to the Golden Three, which may be why in Ocarina of Time, the Great Fairies can be contacted only with Zelda’s Lullaby. The Royal Family was close to them and respected them, which is why the fountains are so decorated as they are in that game.

When the timeline split happened tho, a lot of the fountains were lost or needed to be relocated. In Twilight Princess, you can only get to the fairy fountains through the Cave of Ordeals, which makes me think that when the Imprisoning War happened (I could be remembering the timeline wrong), they had to go into hiding to protect themselves. Additionally, I think the Twilight Invasion would have harmed them similarly to how the Light Spirits were harmed.

For Wind Waker, the fairies were warned that the world would flood, so they had time to relocate in advance. But with the world broken up as it was, their power weakened so they were unable to pass along as many gifts as they could give to the Hero of Time. They still did what they could tho to protect Hyrule’s future.

Now, I haven’t played A Link To The Past, so I can’t say too much about that period of time, but I know that fairy fountains weren’t in the original two zelda games. So I think that the decay of Hyrule and Ganon’s power ravaging the land destroyed a lot of places that fairies drew their power. Because of this, Fairies are more on their own than before in order to survive.

I don’t really know how Breath of the Wild fits in here, but I’m guessing that slowly but surely, magic grew throughout the land, making it easier for fairies to gain power. Everything has magic in it, and rupees were similarly powered up with the overall flow of magic. That’s why the Great Fairies required rupees to unlock their powers. Calamity Ganon poisoned the land, forcing the fairies to hide and the Great Fairies to seal themselves in their fountains until Link comes along.

I rambled a lot more than I thought I would, but I think that’s how this works.

I drew mer-legend, now here's Faerule in a bottle!! :D

I struggled with the lighting of this drawing so so much - ultimately the only reason it turned out as good as it did is thanks to my friends who were willing to play along with my bullshit in the middle of the night and help me actually make it look good. So much bs went into making this. So much bs. (As in, I was the one bs-ing.)

But hey it looks good so shhh

I'm still taking suggestions for what other mythical creatures I should draw the boys as (because I still only have ideas for a couple of them, not all), so if you have a thing where you're like "Oh I've aways imagined Wind as like, a phantom or something idk," and you're willing to share, I'd greatly appreciate!! (The only characters I have ideas for rn are Twi, Time, and ofc the Ravio sketch I posted a couple days ago.)

Oh also!! The little cheek thingies and antennae I took from @grooviestsadpapaya 's sketch of triple threat because I love it so much, and also that's what kick-started my inspiration to draw this one in the first place.

But please take my Faerule I love Faerule so much now I'm gonna go do my hw due in like two hours
