hiiii dearest anon! i am so sorry for the delay in replying - i saw this ask and immediately got SO freaking excited, because, well, piarles is my absolute OTP in this fandom, so of course i'd love to share all the details about them!!

i started working on a piarles lore post almost immediately, and that's when i realised... um, there is actually rather a lot of piarles lore. like, a lot. enough that i've been working on this post for over a week in-between work and irl stuff, and it's still not done??

so yeah.... 🙈 i just wanted to reply to you today and say that i have seen this ask and i am working on a piarles lore post for you ❤️😘 it's just taking quite a bit longer than i thought because of how much piarles lore there is. but rest assured, the post is definitely happening!! thank you SO much for asking, and for giving me the chance to embark on the most fun research project ever <3333

You will see Piarles again in the loneliest time collection! Multiple times even because (oops) they have more planned fics than any other pairing.

Right now there’s a Carlando fic going up and then I believe the next fic I write will be a Maxiel fic and then I’ll put up another Piarles fic - which I’m going to give you a little fact here…it’ll be two Piarles fics back to back because they’re connected stories.

But don’t hold me to that specific order because you know I go rogue.

There’s also going to be a platonic pairing fic (Danny/Charles from Blue Neighbourhood) and a couple of Galex fics too!

I would really love to branch out…but I write what I write.

and what an excellent question, anon!! it made me grin so much when i first saw it, because if there's one thing i absolutely LOVE, it's talking about my ship opinions/characterisations/headcanons, etc etc. ESPECIALLY lately, when my writing brain is a bit offline, and all i can do is think and daydream...

anyways. SO: to actually answer your question, dear anon, i honestly think that a very compelling argument could be made for having this both ways around. it depends on the setting you're going for (canon-adjacent or AU, the specific background of that fic, etc etc...)

with that said, though - personally, i have a big soft spot for "charles fell first, pierre fell harder." i love the idea of charles (who, perpetual middle child that he is, always looked up to & admired pierre when they were younger) then growing up and realising that fuck, pierre has been different to everyone else all along, and it's because charles has loved him all along. simultaneously, pierre grows up to be a bit of a whore (affectionate) and he sleeps with a whole bunch of people until it SUDDENLY hits him, almost out of the blue, that the only person he wants forever is charles.

and like this excellent post said: charles has been living with his feelings/trying to ignore them for much longer, while pierre is hit by them full-force out of the blue - and he proceeds to be incredibly possessive and insane about charles. (that, incidentally, is ALSO one of my most favourite tropes - pierre being possessive and insane about charles.)

so yeah! i am definitely on team "charles fell first, pierre fell harder" - but like i said, i do think this trope can be done BRILLIANTLY no matter which way around you do it!

Just discovered the song Your Stupid Face by Karen Mackay and it is soooooo incredibly Piarles coded oh my days (especially the song from Charles’ point of view) and now I’m obsessed. Basically my thinking atm is a meet ugly where non racer Charles is just pissed off at F1 racer Pierre for some reason (I’m not creative enough to think of the reason 😅 Pierre’s rude or overly cocky when Charles has had a bad day and it tips him over the edge?) but he’s in also in denial about the fact that he finds Pierre really quite attractive (‘I hate your stupid face’) but EVENTUALLY he gives in and excepts he ‘loves (his) stupid face’. Of course Pierre’s liked this cute guy that got mad at him and looked even cuter the whole time and just liked to antagonise and tease him. And I know you said you didn’t want angst but I promise it’s only a little! Maybe Pierre has to go back to racing and Charles feels he messed up and they got in an argument and didn’t talk before Pierre left and Charles thinks P will just forget about him (‘the world denied me one last kiss’). Obvs Pierre doesn’t because he’s just as smitten as Charles and he comes back and that whole conversation type verse of the song happens (dialogue just based on what is said :)) and yayy Charles realises that his feelings are reciprocated and not he’s not stupid for falling for a famous guy :) This got very long but the thought wormed it’s way into my brain and I had to share it, I hope you have a nice weekend!

like this makes me remember monza, they will always have monza! they're tied together, their names are inked next to each other in history and the fact monza is their favourite race win?? like it was the race pierre got to fulfill one of his biggest dreams, the biggest possible fuck you to rb & everyone that doubted him. for charles, it's the race where he got the meaning of belonging, the understanding of the true power of ferrari and tifosi, it's where he finally felt accepted and loved. monza is theirs individually but also theirs collectively, only they have felt true magic there

and in 2019, it was a hard weekend for pierre (with the press conference picture you reblogged, with still processing anthoine's death, with dealing with the true weight of him going back to toro rosso), but he was so happy for charles anyways? and in 2020, it was a hard weekend for charles, a ferrari double dnf in monza of all places in one of the worst years ferrari has ever lived through, and then it was a huge crash, even he said that it was big. for charles, whose first response is to always ask about the car or yell at himself, he was so shaken up that he couldn't stop saying that it was a huge hit. he would have had bruises for days and that idiot was so happy with pierre winning that he not only postponed his medical check up but also watched the podium. how many drivers except the ones on the podium, even watch it?? he also nearly threw off romain to hug pierre. charles is never happy unless he wins and he was GRINNING for him like he had won it himself

charles and pierre always continue to place their friendship over everything else, they keep choosing each other every single time because they know what they have, even platonic, is something special, is something they'll never have with someone else. it's just them against the world, against every other person

they've been each other's number one constant their whole lives (i would have said este too but with the ups and downs in their relationship, i don't think he's a constant the way charles is) and now they share such a huge thing.

I can see them keep coming to visit monza again and again together, even when they've both retired (even if they have failed to recognise that they're soulmates in more than just the romantic sense hehe)

monza is theirs, they've made it theirs, and nobody can ever take it from them.
