Rating My Wild Magic Incidents & Other Disasters

When I say my Tav is a walking disaster, I mean she's a walking disaster. Sometimes a deceased disaster.

Spike growth while fighting mud mephits. Lae'zel was already dying of a wound going necrotic from stepping on a trap in the swamp. Shadowheart and Niam survived by misty stepping to a rock to get the high ground and flinging down spells while clinging to each other and covered in mud. 2 party members died, but 2 survived. 7.5/10.

Set everything in a 6 meter radius on fire while freeing Volo. Immediately turned the whole goblin camp hostile. Full party wipe. 0/10.

Swapped positions with the hag, ragdolled, and died for reasons not related to wild magic. 4/10.

Enlarged herself and reduced all the townspeople at the circus, leading to a giant enemy monching on the innocent civilians. No party wipe, but civilians lost. 2/10.

Picked up a lute with no practice and proceeded to terrorize the streets of Baldur's Gate with her bad music. 6.5/10 for trying.

Set everything in a 6 meter radius on fire while resisting arrest. Local journalist looked on shouting "This is front page material!" Yes, good ser. This was front page material and it didn't even make it into the broadsheet. -10/10 for that, 12/10 for surviving and not having a full party wipe against all odds. Gale died, but that's a regular occurrence at this point, nothing to stress over. He's fine.

Scratch walked through the gate and stopped, blocking Niam in and she couldn't jump over him. 20/10 because Scratch is a good boy.

Spike growth while frightened by githyanki and couldn't move. Full party wipe. -20/10 because this was the fight I had to reload the most.

Set everything in a 6 meter radius on fire while she was in the basement storage of a fireworks shop. She has never been more dead. -100/10.

Hi Bethany! I've been meaning to tell you that I enjoyed your post about going through the rolling stone list of best albums from 2023 and it inspired me to do something similar! I have been listening to a lot of newer genres over the years but moving further from hardcore and metal which are my fave genres and I wasn't too happy with that. The other day I randomly came across a list of best hardcore albums of 2023 and I decided to listen to them all similar to you in hopes of adding more hardcore into my playlists and it's been fun! Thanks for the inspiration! (And thank you also for checking out the spanish albums too. I wasn't expecting you to actually listen to them and I think it's awesome you did!)

hello!! i love this so much?? i feel like an influencer but in a cool way 😎 funnily enough i actually started this a couple of years ago because i felt like i was just listening to the same pop punk/hardcore/metal that i listened to in my teenage years and wanted to branch out! but it really is just a nice convenient way to find new music with no consequences if you don't like it, even if it is in your fav genre because there's always new music that slips under the radar <3

i am a big fan of music in languages other than english and rolling stone does a semi-decent job of including them and (without knowing for sure) i would say spanish is the second most represented language! most of these artists are from south america or caribbean islands but have also seen actual spaniards in the past (rosalia is the first that comes to mind). most non-english albums are from european languages but also get some asian languages as well (mostly kpop and jpop but have seen some south east asian artists) this year's list has had a few african artists but most have been in english (i mentioned mr eazi in my original post and his songs are in ghanian pidgin english)

finally i'm extra glad you sent this because it made me realise i hadn't seen you on my dash for a while and i must have accidentally unfollowed??? stupid ass app sometimes

I’ve answered a few similar asks in the past so I’ll paraphrase a bit of what I know I said back then below the cut to preserve everyone’s feed.

To start, take your time with it ! It’s easy to get impatient and rush to finish a story when you know the direction you want to take it in which definitely translates more than one might think, so go slow and enjoy the process. Piggybacking off of that I would recommend having a tab open to look up synonyms for words you know you like to use. Personally speaking I love overusing certain phrases and words a bit too much and I worry about my writing sounding repetitive, so the use of alternatives helps a ton. It also grants you a better understanding of what you’re saying linguistically/grammatically.

I always tell people not to proofread until after they’ve finished writing but I definitely don’t follow that advice (I go back to reread my work like 48 times before I post it) so honestly whatever works best for you, do it ! Proofreading as you go helps to catch mistakes and lets you fix up the flow of certain areas, but waiting to edit until the end lets you get your undiluted thoughts on the page easier and you second guess yourself and your ideas less. Ultimately it’s whatever your preference is, I know some writers who almost never proofread/edit their works and others like myself who make themselves sick to death of their own stories because of how much time they spend analyzing the words on the page.

Also since you mentioned being new to writing, don’t get hung up on numbers !! It’s easy to lose motivation when you see something you worked hard on gain less traction than you hoped, but all that matters is that you enjoy your writing and have fun while creating ! The rest tends to fall into place :))
