BBS: My Favorite Pran Moments

Of all the characters on the show, Pran is probably the one many of us relate to the most. We see ourselves in Pran. We understand unrequited love, have walked in his shoes. We see how he lives inside his head and makes himself smaller for others. How he gives so much yet takes back so very little so we applaud Pat for recognizing this and setting out to compensate by loving Pran LOUDLY and unequivocally- all of him, just as he is.

Here are my favorite moments from the series of our soft architect. It would be impossible for me to put my favorite Pran moments in any kind of ranking order because I LOVE them all. So instead I’ll list these chronologically as they appeared on screen.

EP3: You seem happy when you get to compete against me.

This is the face of complete and utter devotion to all things Pat. I go back to this scene a lot just to revisit this soft moment. Pran comments that Pat seems happy when he gets to compete against him and Pat responds by teasing Pran that he does it because he likes to see Pran’s face...when he loses. And it’s very subtle here because Nanon is a masterclass actor, but you can see the light in Pran’s eyes at Pat’s words and again see that very same light extinguish when Pat qualifies it with when you lose. Go rewatch it. It’s very subtle but it’s there and it’s a testament to Nanon’s acting.

EP4 - Ink, do you like Pat?

Forget about Pat wrestling the gun from that goon, this was the bravest moment on the show for me. When I first watched this scene, I couldn’t believe Pran would willingly put himself out there like this, it almost seemed out of character. BUT I later realized that there’s a quiet strength in Pran that’s undeniable. It’s not ostentatious or in your face, instead it’s a soft and unassuming confidence that many might overlook and oftentimes underestimate. He’s cerebral and overthinks everything so I imagine that this wasn’t an impulsive question for him. He’s thought about it, a lot, and by that I mean all the time, probably ever since high school as he watched Ink and Pat interact from the sidelines. (Oh, Pran.) And so he asks and waits with breath held...and we can see the exact moment when he’s relieved that Ink’s answer is no:

I love this scene sooooo much because it not only underlines Pran’s bravery but also reveals the extent of his feelings for Pat. It’s so relatable because we’ve all been here. This moment allows us to see Pran’s vulnerability and applaud his courage in the same breath. Truly masterful direction by P’Aof and incredibly nuanced performance by Nanon. Also, with the surrounding natural light, Nanon looks absolutely stunning here. Like, I can’t look away.

EP4 - Someone like you? What’s to like? I...hate you.

No list of favorite Pran moments would ever be complete without this iconic scene from the end of EP4. I’ve said a lot about this scene in my ranking of BBS endings so I’ll try not to be repetitive here. Except to say that I consistently come back to this anytime I feel like dying a little because honestly that’s what it does to me. How much did Pat’s yes take from Pran? Everything. Watching him fight to hold back his tears as Pat lists all the reasons why Pran (as Ink) should like him, I have a visceral reaction to it every time. And then the soft, adoring smile as he watches Pat sleep as if he’s unable to look anywhere else. Ugh, it gets me every single damn time.

EP5 - Why? Do you want us to be friends?

This is the exact moment where Pran looks at Pat for a split-second and decides to pull him in for that second, deeper kiss. This is when he makes the decision that he’s going to allow himself to have this. To have Pat. For just this small breadth of time. And there’s just something both beautiful and incredibly sad about how much of himself he pours into this kiss. Because for Pran, this is a one-time thing. So he goes for broke and lays himself bare at Pat’s feet. It’s both a destructive and healing kiss. His face at the end reveals his turmoil as his defenses make its way back. He knows that he can’t ever really have this, not in the way that he truly wants because it was only mere days ago that Pat admitted to having feelings for someone else. And more than that, is the constant weight of their families’ rivalry hanging over them so Pran does what he has always done- locks it away and leaves behind a reeling Pat.

EP6 - We know how it’s going to end, isn’t it better not to start at all?

Pran leaves his guitar with Wai and in the process his feelings for Pat. We know he’s very conflicted but is also resolute in his decision to finally let Pat go. But as he leaves we see him look intently back at the guitar, take a moment to steady himself and walks out the door, determined to see it through. I found this scene again so relatable. That moment when you make the decision to let go of something or someone, not because you want to but because you know you have to.

EP6 - I should take a break. It still hurts.

Even though this started out as Pran distracting his friends from beating up Pat, we know that Pran isn’t lying here when he says it still hurts. He knows that Ink doesn’t reciprocate Pat’s feelings, but to protect his own heart he’s decided to let Pat go. Only Pat shows up and makes it impossible for Pran to do any of that letting-going. Remember Pran is an overthinker, so imagine how long it took for him to reach this point of acceptance all for Pat to swoop in and ruin it with his relentlessness. But in spite of his irritation with Pat, we see that Pran still deeply cares, he doesn’t want to see Pat hurt and repeatedly steps in to prevent that from happening. This small moment, two lines, is so telling of Pran’s emotional state. I love how he says it quietly, almost dismissively to his drunk (unhearing) friends.

EP7 - Why did you come? Don’t you want to win?

The radiance of Pran’s smile can part the clouds on a rainy day, hell, it can compete with the sun on any day. I love that Pran forgets his surroundings and everyone around him as he openly beams at Pat. Even though Pat says the words and declares himself the loser, they are both winners here. The bet was Pran being careful and guarded waiting to see if Pat is as serious and committed as he is, that this isn’t just one of their games. Pat said he would sweep Pran off his feet and though he would never admit it- try as he might, Pran has never been immune to Pat. Let’s face it, Pran lost to Pat years ago, long before the bet.

EP8 - I'm done adjusting.

I love this scene so, so much. Because as larger than life and confident as Pat is in everything he does, he’s insecure when it comes to Pran. He doesn’t want to mess this up and Pran knows this. This small moment right here is Pran letting Pat know that you can’t mess this up, I want this as much as you do, we’re in this together. Now take my hand and let’s go forward, together. It would be so easy to deny Pat this small gesture but he doesn’t because that would mean denying himself and I love this so much for Pran that he’s letting himself openly have these small Pat-shaped moments, no longer tucking them away to quietly look at later.

EP8 - Hey, that’s love. You can’t choose the person or the time.

Pran gives heartbroken (pfft) Wai advice on the challenges of being in a secret relationship. The layers this conversation has could rival an onion. Here Pran is telling us that he knows his relationship with Pat is imperfect. That it’s difficult to even talk or see each other when they want to, that this is not the kind of relationship he ever imagined for himself- BUT he’s in it now and despite the many obstacles, being with Pat is entirely worth it. Because the opposite? The not being with Pat? That is unfathomable and not an option.

EP8 - Let me see your big smile with squinty eyes.

Where everyone can see that Pat loves loudly, Pran shows his affection in softer, more muted ways- neither more or less than the other just different and this is a great glimpse into that. Pran hears in Pat’s voice that he’s not fine so he rushes home to be not fine with him. We usually have Pat acting up and teasing Pran to coax out a smile, but here the roles are reversed and Pran fills in admirably by doing funny bits and being the cutest to make Pat laugh. He asks at the end if Pat is better now, he needs to hear him say it, needs that reassurance that Pran can be for Pat what he’s been for him and that’s his safe haven, where he can lay down his troubles and worries and simply, rest.

EP8 - But I care about you more.

I love the conversation they have behind the curtain. And I love that it’s Pran who initially seeks out Pat. A total reversal of EP6 where Pat did most of the chasing and heavy lifting to get Pran to talk to him. Here Pran realizes while watching Pat play the xylophone that everything he has with Pat means more. That the whole of Pat is greater than the sum of everything else. It means if posting photos on social media makes Pat happy then Pran will figure it out, he’ll come around on being okay with it. Because for him, Pat’s happiness is non negotiable. It’s not even a question, Pran chooses Pat everytime. And I absolutely love that he makes this clear to Pat.

EP9 - But I ordered less sweet.

Pran recognizes what Pat is willing to do here and that is go back into hiding for him just so that his friends will talk to him again. And I think this is the moment that Pran fell that much harder for Pat (as does the entire fandom). I love that Pran doesn’t even consider Pat’s suggestion, not even for one second, the hestitation we see is Pran considering Pat. He’s asking himself how are you even real? How are you this good? Can I keep you forever? (Yes Pran, all you have to do is continue looking at him like THAT). And for once, Pran initiates the touching by placing his hand over Pat’s and grips tightly, a telling action that says thank you, thank you for being you and for caring about me this much. I’m not going anywhere.

EP10 - If I do that, how can I ever really quit?

Pran’s reaction to finding out that Pat ran after him with his guitar on the day he transferred is everything to me. This is one of my most favorite Pran moments of the entire series and I don’t say this lightly. If I had to rank this, it would be in my top five for sure. It’s the show’s small, quiet moments that grabs me refusing to let go and this right here is one of the standouts. Again it’s small, almost fleeting and so nuanced that blink and you might miss it but it’s impact envelops me like a warm hug everytime I rewatch it (which is a lot). After Pat reveals to Pran that he ran after him, we see Pran make this face of utter surprise and contentment like he’s lit from within by Pat’s words. But more than that, we see him take a small gulp and look away because he’s choked up- I am completely floored by Nanon’s acting here. THIS tiny swallow is what gets me. He’s so moved by Pat’s confession that it chokes him up. I’ve always been grateful that Pat is an excellent communicator, that when he wants Pran to know something he tells him, but never more so than in this moment.

EP10 - Uncle, please calm down.

Pran sees that Ming and Pat’s conversation is escalating and does the unthinkable of jumping in between them. Pran has never been one for physical altercations, we’ve seen him try to make peace between the two friend groups. Using his wits to defuse tense situations is more on Pran’s radar, not fists. So it says something here that he bodily steps in front of Pat unconcerned for his own welfare and more intent on protecting Pat. I love him for this especially because no one would have fault him for continuing to watch from the sidelines. This wasn’t his fight to bear but he did it anyway. Pran so fucking cool.

EP10 - I can’t take it anymore.

What gets me the most about Pran’s breakdown is how he holds himself back and only when he sees Pat does he let himself completely shatter. His faith in Pat to catch him in this moment is so breathtaking and raw and overwhelming. This entire scene left me completely gutted. Pran finally releases all his repressed feelings because he now has someone that he can lean on to carry some of the burden. His shoulders rack with each sob and it takes Pat holding him up for him not to fall. We can see how tight his grip is on Pat, anchoring himself to him. This moment between them is deep-rooted with trust and love and everything unspoken.

EP11 - It’s our last night on this honeymoon.

Pat’s gratitude for never leaving his side and making him happy is the ultimate affirmation for why Pran stays in their honeymoon bubble. Pat needed this time to eventually realize and accept that they’d both have to return home at some point. Pat needed to arrive at this realization on his own. Pran knows this and remains patient and present for him. When Pat finally tells him let’s head home, Pran tears up because he understands what this means, the gift Pat is giving him by acknowledging that Pran needs his mom too. And with a quivering voice and a gentle smile he says let’s spend our last night celebrating, let’s not end this time on a sad note but a happy one instead. It’s the voice wobble and the smiling through the tears that gets me.

EP11 - I wrote this song for him.

This show has never had characters come right out and say ‘I love you’ and it never needed to because of scenes like this one. This is Pran's I love you to Pat and the flashbacks in the montage are all the reasons why. But what’s even more revealing is what Pran says to the bar audience (but really its words solely meant for Pat to hear) that he doesn’t regret anything because everything that led up to this point gave him Pat. These words and this song is Pran’s answer to Pat’s stairway love declaration in EP10. Without knowing it, we became two people who can’t be just friends. I wrote this song for him. And damn if this doesn’t beat all the raised boomboxes blaring ‘in your eyes’ and all the rain-soaked airport chases in all the world.

EP12 - That's for other people.

This scene where Pran reassures Pat that only he has access to his home through Pran's window and everyone else has to use the front door is so simple yet so endearing and genuine. Pran is telling Pat why would you want to be like everyone else? You have me. And as long as you pay the fee (of loving me) you can have this (me) for life. This is Pran committing his life to Pat. (Sobs). We close out the series with the two of them talking and laughing and looking at each other like they always have and will continue to do - only now with the unwavering certainty that the other person will already be looking back.

i was rewatching the music video of just friends and at this one scene of nanon's character looking at ohm's while he was asleep and with that smile, i got to think of some question about pran. do you think he had the kind of "I like him" moment, where he acknowledges his love? i don't mean the realization, i mean the peace that comes from being in touch with your feelings. and both versions or pran i mean, pre and post separation? did he allow himself that sinking realization of love or was he stopping himself? do you think that love, the feeling of being in love, was a joy to him?

everytime i think of him there's so much pain that i really wish was all that was there to his love.

god anon are you trying to break my heart making me think about this??? seriously you're making me want to cry bc thinking about this is just like... so much

i was just finishing my rewatch of ep 1 and watching the scene outside the pharmacy, and i just couldnt even take notes bc there was so much to the way pran was acting in that scene, so many thoughts and feelings i was having that it was actually too much to try and write down coherently. but now you're making me think about it all over again.

there are a lot of moments that come to mind when i think about this. outside the pharmacy in ep 1 is one of them, bc after pat has left and he's just left with that smile on his face, the joy of him winning at their little game settling in him, and i dont think in that moment is plainly him thinking 'god im in love with him'. its more him realizing that the joy pat gives him i still very much alive in him, that spark he feels is still there. do you ever watch something or do something or talk to someone, and youre so immersed, so into it, but for a single moment you realize 'wow, im feeling so happy. this is making me so happy'. i think thats what pran is experiencing. this kinda out of body realisation that pat is able to unconsciously make him smile. thats when you realize you really, truly feel something for someone or something. its not forced, its just a natural reaction. and i think it that moment, when he isnt yet letting all the painful weight of his feelings weigh him down, he really likes that. he just really likes the fact that pat makes him happy.

as for other moments, again they aren't plain him accepting and revelling in feelings of love. what popped into my mind were the scene when pat gives him his guitar and the scene where pat is sleeping on his floor. for the first scene, after pat says his line about liking to see his face when he loses then gets up and leaves, i really love that pat lets himself have a moment there, lets himself stay sat for a moment, looking at where pat just was before he closed his door and just looking. in that moment, its like the meaning of everything that just happened, the meaning of pat keeping his guitar hits him, and more than anything that just makes him fall in love. hes looking after him thinking 'god, this man is so caring, he does these caring things, and he does them for me. and that makes me fall in love with him'. there's almost disbelief in his eyes, that pat would do such a lovely thing for him, and that its able to make him fall impossibly harder in love. but that moment is also tinged with this lingering knowledge of his feelings not being reciprocated. pran falling more for pat bc of these caring actions when pat only sees them as friendly, and there's pain bc its just something he has to deal with. he can only live in that moment of love for so long before the reality of it not being returned hits him.

i see this same sentiment again when pat is sleeping on pran's floor, after the whole confession of him liking ink. bc again, pat drags up all these lovely, caring things he's done for pran, practically listing the reasons to fall in love with him. and he's saying 'come on, i do all that. how could you not love me?'. and it just rubs salt in all of pran's open and exposed wounds and it really hurts, its painful. but he still lets himself roll over and take that moment to look at pats face, and lets himself accept that yes, he loves him, of course he loves him. he watches the face of the man he loves and the man thats capable of breaking his heart until he cant bear to look any longer.

lol my ramblings are getting emotional again but in this regard, pran reminds me a bit too much of me. i feel like his mind runs a mile a minute and its hard to get it to settle. he tries to focus on good things, let himself enjoy the feeling of being in love but the difficulties and obstacles are so huge and numerous that it overwhelms that single, pure feeling of love. its only when hes so immersed in something he's doing that his brain suddenly shuts off, hes able to act without thinking and his thoughts arent intrusive bc hes so wrapped up in what hes doing. thats why i think the bet was so perfect for him, bc it prompts him to do stuff, keep doing stuff, keep immersing himself in that joyous world of him and pat that takes him away from his constant thinking, bc the longer hes there, the less time he spends with his thoughts, and that makes them affect his actions less, makes him less logical and rational about what he's doing and allows him to live in the moment, do what he really wants. in that way, i dont think he has many silent, contemplative moments where i he just thinks about his love. instead, i think its more like how i described at the start, where he's just immersed in his happiness with pat and for a moment he lets himself realize that he's just so happy and in love and happy to be in love, and before his mind brings up any of those negative thoughts, pat's doing something cute or dumb again and pran's laughing at him and his back in their world, where all those other thoughts cant reach him.

The Gifted: Graduation Live Blogging

The Gifted Live Blogging

I hope I love this! I want it to have strong writing that makes sense, please. Also, seems like lots of new characters are gonna be introduced, I wonder how they’ll balance it when the cast is already quite big and not fully utilized.

Episode 1 (May 5)

1-1

wait, Tay Tawan is in this?! Also, the girl is Namtan right? I don’t know why but her face is so elusive to me like sometimes it’s very easy to recognize her, sometimes it’s like this scene where I’m like hm... is this Namtan? and other photos/videos I don’t recognize her at all

Phuwin in this strict role is new to me, unexpected but curious

Haven’t had Gifted class for a year? Okay hmm lemme get the timing straight.

So Graduation is taking place in 2020 but original took place in 2018, so I guess we’ll go back to see what happened in the past year? Though from the preview from the next part, it seems like we’ll get more of current time too. I hope they give more info on what happened after season 1 in some way or enough info for the audience to piece it together.

Back with the product placement drinks that give them all incredible ideas

Time is interesting because I get his drive to be in the Gifted program and thus wanting it back but him saying the adults made the decision is untrue. Phuwin’s character (Third I think) said that it’s the Gifted students who wanted it gone, so it’s hardly just the adults. If something I wanted to do was so terrible that those in it, despite all the intelligence and privilege granted to them, wanted it shut down, I wouldn’t want to reopen it. I get him asking Third about it though, I’d definitely be curious about what went down

Where are all the Gifted kids? We saw the twins briefly in part 1 but where are the rest? Don’t they have something to say while Time’s creating this movement to bring back the gifted class?

Grace smart and lacking morals, love to see it. Don’t think she’ll move Claire as my favourite but she’s fun too

Time’s gifted, as we all guessed. Wonder if his potential’s gonna have anything to time lol

Pang’s entrance !!! I didn’t get super leader vibes from him in season 1, it was more of a lone wolf mission type thing with like collaboration with friends but the way they made way for him here... wild

Episode 2 (May 5)

I’m already so excited to see what each of the characters have been up to, I imagine it must’ve been wild and fantastic to have been a fan of season 1 then finally getting to see the cast again in season 2 after a year or two

Oh true I didn’t even notice they didn’t have Namtaan here lol I guess the actor who played her had other commitments

Aw, Pang’s “Do I need to come up with the solution?” I replayed that part to see each character’s reaction

The characters aren’t quite the same as they were in season 2, they seem more... glamourous? I won’t say I’m not enjoying the fan service type take on it with them just being so incredibly cool and above it all right now but I hope we get to see them more grounded in the coming episodes

Dead, they have a clean and clear for men product placement

Nanon’s so beautiful in this season. He was much more brooding in the last one, so to see him smile-smirking and have his top button unbuttoned is >.<

I feel like it’s somewhat detrimental to a show that my perception for an actor can influence how I feel about their character. I was only blinded by my love for Gun in season 1 while I was able to form my own opinions about Nanon as Pang and Chimon as Wave even though I like them enough as people. Now, whenever Phuwin appears, I feel this sort of fondness even though Third isn’t a character I’m fond of yet lol.

They did WHAT? a bomb? Did they actually do this, what the heck?

Can I say that I love secrets and secretly doing things? It’s not always my cup of tea but the way the Gifted kids are keeping so many secrets and other people only know fragments is really good to me

I just don’t fully get how these explosions or fire is supposed to keep the Gifted program cancelled for good. They want the director killed? But can’t somebody else just restart Gifted? I guess they wouldn’t run it the same way as the director and it might actually just be for really smart kids but like... all those people in the meeting with the director knew about the potentials, so couldn’t they just pick up where the director left off?

Ooh, Time’s potential is seeing visions?

Why is he trying to open this cabinet with fire inside :0 Maybe I’ve just forgotten all my chemistry rip

Oh... so, they aren’t setting things on fire and I’m assuming they actually didn’t set the bomb in that meeting with the director? Okay, interesting, I’m invested now

Wave coming to defend Pang wearing his safari hat is so funny, why does he have that on lol

I wonder if the head of the Anti-Gifted is Third? The icon in the phone call kinda looks like Phuwin’s silhouette

Episode 3 (May 5)

Are we not gonna get to see the administrators find the Anti-Gifted kids? I guess seeing that’s not super important to the plot, we just assume they’ve been found out and punished?

The director buttering up Time, oh no

I don’t know how to describe what I feel about Grace, it’s not fond the way I feel about Claire. Like girl wakes up late, doesn’t gaf about this exam, picks a lock, and is probably gonna poke her nose into the Gifted kids’ business, she’s just entertaining to see, I suppose. I also thought Claire was just entertaining at the beginning, then developed fondness for her so maybe it’ll go the same way for Grace.

I can’t blame Time for not going through with the plan when they won’t tell him what they’ll do despite using his potential

Why are they standing there arguing with Time when they could just... find it themselves since it must be close to where they are

Bruh, I’d be so confused and disappointed if Pang chooses to be back in Gifted in exchange for the audio file. Like it makes no sense, I don’t get why the Director would offer that as if that’s equivalent to him resigning. Pang already has his friends even if stays in class 8, he also has his powers, and he doesn’t necessarily want his privileges (also like... if he asked, someone from Gifted class would keep extra food for him anyway, so he can keep some of his privileges that way anyway). I hope this is just supposed to show that the director fundamentally does not understand Pang and not that Pang is so greedy to take that deal because it wouldn’t align with his character at all unless he has an even bigger plan for choosing it but I don’t know if he’s smart enough for even grander plans

Right, okay, since they ended it with that question so I thought it was supposed to be significant but yeah, as expected, Pang was like bruh that’s nothing

I hope whatever deal they come to, they have like binding papers for the director to sign lol

Ooh, interesting, they had him say it to the whole student body. I wonder how the Director will twist this to his own benefits. Everybody gets the same treatment as Class 8? Nicer bathrooms, good food, good dorms all out of reach as everybody in the school is cramped to class 8′s shitty accommodations?

Seeing them celebrate a victory while there are 10 episodes left is </3

Episode 4 (May 5)

Nah I really am so fond of Phuwin, Third’s “we’re friends now!” to Grace and Time was cute

Ooh, I wonder what Grace’s potential will be. I still maintain that in these superpower shows, one of them needs to have the potential to be able to resist other people’s (though I don’t think Grace is necessarily this because Third could get Murakami and John Green out of her brain). I wonder if this niche is filled in this show by the fact that people with the same potential can’t use it on each other

Also, I wonder if she’s lying that she doesn’t know her potential. She seemed so... timid and mild, which is definitely not what I’d expect from her

Third’s interesting because he’s steadfast, unflinching in his choices and actions. He can be annoying or too much but he’s quite resolute

Duuuuude, Grace’s disinterest toward actually doing things and accomplishing goals is so relatable, I have like no drive and it’s terrible lol

I guess the more useful potentials for this case are with the XVI class (Time finding the vial, Third getting answers from brain) and I guess they won’t let Pang try to get the truth out of people if he’s the main suspect and Darin’s not boutta admit shit to Director.

Are they trying to make the director a sympathetic character now? hmm

The kids could go to the director and try to have him make them tell the truth?

I don’t get why Pang and Chanon are tryna help Korn escape, I don’t get ittt like if my friend spread a virus that’s extremely harmful to people, especially those in my community, you will Not find me protecting them. We know Korn’s reasoning now and it’s shitty and nonsensical but even if it was logical, it’d still be wrong and I’d still be like k teachers deal with him

I... didn’t realize these existed because as soon as the Director’s name came up at the end of an episode, I clicked onto the next episode lol. I knew Pond was apparently in the show because of MDL cast list but I never saw him, so I searched up his part and seems like he’s in these. I hope the PunnClaire noodles almost kiss scene is from here tooooo, I saw clips of that but I need to watch it in full fr

Ohhh, it starts in episode 4, so I didn’t realize lol The ep 4 and 5 PunnClaire side story T.T So cute but then ending freaking sadly with Punn remembering the good memories as he sits alone eating this sponsored noodles. </3

The Yim and Non side story from ep 8 or 9 is cute enough. So she’s not in Gifted class even though she’s got powers? I guess she’ll learn more about it now that everything’s in the open

Overall thoughts:

This series was so high stakes, people were sick and dying, due to sickness or otherwise. The fate of so many people was at stake.

The betrayals were really good, some I assumed (and I think we were meant to, to show how naive the high school students were) while others caught me by surprise.

Hmm how do I feel about the ending... I think there were some parts where they excelled (unraveling mysteries), others where they did quite good (stopping the Director and Ministry), and some where it was lacking (the aftermath).

For unravelling mysteries, I liked how we had plot twists upon plot twists (I didn’t notice contradictions due to this but I might’ve missed some plot holes, which is better for me lol). The Director’s actual past, what the director plans on doing, what Grace’s future self did, etc were executed quite well I think.

I thinkkkk the actions taken to stop the Director and Ministry were probably done well but I got lost sometimes because I didn’t quite know what the goal was.

The decisions made during the aftermath of the Director being defeated was illogical to me. Wouldn’t it just be utter chaos? Wouldn’t every person who clicks on the link start screaming right as our show ends but their audio file starts? People would start falling sick, how would they deliver medication to everybody as needed? It’s not that I disagree with what’s they’re doing necessarily but the lack of organization makes me so anxious lol.

I liked how there were no easy answers, everything was just... a bad choice lol

I still think the cast is too big, especially with the introduction of the XVI students. I only care about half the cast and the others aren’t able to be given proper storylines or personalities, so I wish their little screen time was instead just given to the ones I care about/the main cast to flesh them out more. Also, some of them were somewhat different than in season 1 (Wave esp) but I got used to it a few episodes in

PunnClaire are so T.T Head canon that they went their separate ways for university, Claire for acting and Punn double majoring in piano and some sciency thing, and then they meet years later whether it be meeting at Punn’s recital or at a XV Gifted reunion or Claire’s show on Broadway. They’re even more different than when they first started dating but somehow, this change makes them come together again. They bloom together beautifully when they have better control of their potentials and aren’t constantly battling against the school.

When the side het ship (PunnClaire) so good that you’re not screaming crying pulling hair over the main character’s homosexual gay gay homosexual interactions with their best friend (PangWave). Not to worry, Wave’s “I’m so stupid for never giving up on you.” changed my brain chemistry for real, not to mention Wave offering to literally go to the same uni as Pang even though it won’t be a top uni like he’ll be able to go to on his own. AO3 The Gifted fics are all PangWave, so I’ve gotten more into them after reading like 10 one shots lol.

Okay so I wanna talk about the Phat High School flashbacks. I wanna talk about continuity and I wanna talk about Prans insane amount of self-worth issues when it comes to his narration because Holy Crap balls there's a lot to unpack. And because @ablazenqueen has enabled my rambling :')

Genuinely I think Phat has felt this way about Pran for a long time. He didn’t know it because hindsight is 20/20, but I think he’s been subconsciously telegraphing his intent from the very very beginning. I’m also gonna just put this out there, half of all the bullcrap is Pran fault because he’s trying so so hard to live to the expectations of his family that he consistently and neverendingly pushes Phat away until it’s absolutely necessary to talk to him, or interact with him. Phat is already on board to be around Pran in the HS days, it’s Pran and always Pran who pushes for distance.

So the first flashback we get is of Pran being put into the band as the vocalist.

In the moment we see Pran giving Phat a look like he’s beaten him, like he’s won something. He looks so proud of himself *istg* it’s adorable. And then we cut to Phat. And Phat doesn’t look annoyed, he doesn’t look pissed that he has to work with his ~~boyfriend~~ mortal enemy. Nope. Phat has a tiny smile on his face and is watching Pran for the reaction.

And then we get the chaos of the actual show. Of Pran’s parents turning up and the fallout after with their bandmembers.

Until ep5 I spent like 90% of this scene always watching Pran, but after ep5 and everything about the gd song I rewatched and like… my dudes Phat is fucking blushy and adorable in this scene? Like he’s watching Pran play and can’t keep his eyes on him because he’s like half embarrassed because on some level he knows what Pran is telling him and he’s stupidly happy?

In the fallout of the gig we have Pran mother looking like she’s gonna shiv someone, Pran’s dad consistently looking horribly uncomfortable about everything that exists on the planet, and Phat being blamed for everything. Even in the present he blames himself for it, even though Pran was assigned the role to play in the band and either one of them could have chosen to bow out of it, yet Phat blames himself for all of it because…? He wants to take the weight. He wants to take the blame and the baggage for it so that he can be in the same boat as Pran, so Pran isn’t the only one punished for the truly outrageous concept of not hating the love of your life because your parents said so.

~~I have so much to say about this scene but it’s a meta in itself so later maybe~~

Then we have Pran remembering the Pick™.

Now this one is excellent. 11/10 content for their first interaction in the band together, cuz like cut to the next memory and they’re hanging out and writing songs and flirting so – how did they get to that? They got there because Phat is an asshole who absolutely *wants* to be there beside Pran. When he walks in Pran is so uncomfty™ that he doesn’t even wanna talk to Phat, he shrugs him off and shifts position so much in this moment and he’s visibly uncomfortable and 11/10 for the body language there Nanon ur killing it bae. And Phat gives him his first gift ~~which is a whole other meta in itself because heck Phat wants to love and protect and serve his beloved end me~~ and makes Pran the Pick™. Like during this scene Phat is so happy? He’s so happy to talk to Pran and have an excuse to hang out, and to help Pran and I like have mini meltdowns watching it.

And our last HS flashback is the writing.

And Pran is separate again, he’s away from Phat. He puts himself in a position where his back is to him and he’s focusing on the notepad to write, and Phat pulls him in, drags him into acknowledging him by stealing the notepad and basically throwing down the gauntlet to say ‘I trust you on it, I’ll even put my name on it because I support you and know you’re amazing.’ ~~also pls marry me ilu here’s my credit card and blood type can we look for auspicious dates yet?~~

Phat has always pushed for Pran. He’s always reached for him and tried to scale the walls Pran puts between them. He wheedles, he whines, he flirts and touches. He pushes himself into Pran’s sphere and tries to keep within it even when Pran consistently throws him out of it. He tries to make light and keep things fun so much of the time because he knows that Pran is always over analysing and overthinking everything. He engineers scenarios where they can be close, he pulls to Pran so much that Pran never really stood a chance.

I was thinking about ep5. I was thinking about guitars snuck into rooms and secreted away for three years without being found by Phat’s parents and fricking burned to ash. I was thinking about Pha’s speech about knowing if someone likes you and I was thinking.

What if Phat isn’t analysing his own reactions, but Pran’s in the moments in the music shop. He’s watching and waiting and trying to see how Pran reacts to him and he finds nothing in these moments and he runs. He runs because he’s disappointed, he runs because he’s scared he’s alone in it when they’ve always been in it together. He runs because he doesn’t know to bridge this last distance and just ask.

Phat isn’t ever really unsure.

Phat is intelligent and shrewd and he – like Pran – fills the roles expected of him.

He listens to his parents, he’s playful and sweet and honest with his lil sis. He drinks and fights with his friends.

But he doesn’t have a script for the interactions after the music shop. He’s unsteady and unsure and uncomfortable and he starts to spiral the moment he’s misaligned. All of this because Pran has never not shown these signs before, they’re been trundling along together and they have their roles and they know the scripts but something changed and Phat doesn’t know what.

~~obvs we know it was his apparently suicidal urge to say he liked Ing and then immediately start listing reasons why Pran should like him, thus breaking his heart but again hindsight is 20/20~~

So the timeline is jacked right? We get to see it out of order. We see Pran being assigned and the fallout, and then their interactions inbetween afterwards.

This is why Pran looks so fucking guilty when his parents show up – He didn’t just join the band (by request of their teacher which I mean come on they were assigned a task by their teacher man, they gotta do it) he joined the band, was won over by a guy who’s actively spending time to be there and show he’s in it too and that he wants to change the dynamic. That Pran has actively been engaging and joining in on this and has, sorry to say, fallen for the idiot who can’t stop pushing them together.

Like. Come on. How can Pran’s parents even hold him accountable for being in a school band unless there’s more? Unless Pran has been changing and acting differently and idk like… texting a cute across the street and hiding it? Or something more? ~~legit I want them to already have kissed and the rooftop being them just fucking giving in to it again and Pran leaving because of what it cost them the last time, but idk if that could even be a thing~~

When they discover they’ve been pushed together again what’s Phat’s MO?

He chases, again. He follows Pran around like a lost puppy and puts himself back into proximity in the hopes of getting anything.

And Pran? Pran lets him. AGAIN.

He puts up perfunctory resistance and sticks to their ‘no public interactions’ but that was set down by Phat when they were freaking babies jfc. He whines and tells Phat to leave and fights and flirts and oh wait is that a pattern emerging oh goodness…. :’)

The only times Pran changes his behaviour is when they’re under scrutiny. Only when the screaming reality of their situations is slapped in his face does he stop and change. He’s sat in ep1 saying ‘Okay it’ll be fine we fought it out it’s over’ and Phat’s response kick it in his face.

He’s hiding under the bed when Phats Dad comes in to fucking wreck everything and remind him why its a terrible idea to be close to Phat.

He’s hanging out with Phat and flirting and racing when the consequences of their actions come to kick him in the face and their friends ruin everything.

The consequences are always the thing that will hold Pran back.

It was a shame I couldn't watch this live but I'm glad they put the whole thing up on the GMMTV channel so I could watch the whole thing. I didn't really watch the interview portions of it because the subtitles were interesting (as in missing out huge chunks of the conversation) but I approved of the snazzy outfits, especially the alien one.

After seeing so many reactions of this being 'disappointing' and 'I'm not interested in any of them', my expectations were very low. But there were definitely a few that caught my eye, even if the teaser trailers were a little bit of a mess (as they always are). I'm not a fan of the bodyswap or love triangle tropes so several shows were right out for me, but I appreciated how many shows were doing something different with the sci-fi/time travel/night workers kind of plots. They may be a bit of a gamble because they're not already tested plots but I think some of them look wild and I really want to see how they deal with them. Yeah, they might end up a mess but it will be a fun one.

Shows That I Will Be Eagerly Waiting For

Star and Sky - Okay I wasn't sure about this one because we have two guys reuniting, one of them confessed to the other right before leaving the country and the other didn't say anything in return but now seems to like him back? But then we cut to the 1000 stars knock off, this time from the perspective of the doctor rather than the teacher and I must have missed how the two couples are related. But it looks like it'll be fun and I'm always up for shows getting out of school/uni.

P.S. I Hate You - very female led show about a bride and her bridesmaids talking about how they're such good friends, and then the bride dies (commits suicide? Gets thrown out of a window? I don't know, it's a teaser trailer, it could be either) and secrets and lies start coming out. I hope many people get murdered and the secrets/lies aren't all to do with their romantic relationships because a little variety would be nice. A secret baby, poisoning their parents, something a little new. But I like the women in the cast and I like it when women are being murdery so I'll definitely check this out.

Midnight Chicken - I always love a good show about a restaurant that is open late, food that I want to eat and some possible pining. And is that a character using sign language in one of the couples?? I really hope they keep whoever they are. I like Earth and Mix well enough but that's not one of the main draws of the show for me.

You Are My Favourite - a show where a character uses a magic snow globe to keep going back in time to try and get together with his crush but accidentally sleeps with another guy instead? Apparently every time he uses the snow globe to reverse time, it changes the characters and their storylines. It has Mike, Krist and Aye and it looks like fun, but it really depends on how they handle the time travelling part of the story for me. If you have that plot device, I want to see it being used!

Dirty Laundry - a girl running a laundrette likes a guy who comes in regular but then she steals his suitcase of money. It's all fine apart from when he comes to get it back from her, someone has stolen it from her and they have to get it back before the guy gets murdered. Featuring a bunch of wacky characters as the people who frequent the laundrette at night, this looks like it could be a lot of fun and it has Nanon! He's in a lot this year but I like the plot for this one.

The Eclipse - creepy school, curse, revenge plot possibly? I am very interested. Not to mention enemies to lovers, and Khaotung getting the main role! That is exciting for him, I want to see how he handles it.

Never Let Me Go - son of a mafia boss and his bodyguard? Bodyguard romance, loyalty kink, complicated parental relationships? That all sounds excellent and again, I really appreciate stepping out of the uni/school roles (though the son is still in school).

U.M.G - okay I'm not the hugest fan of childhood friend coming back changed but he has to stick with her because she was his first love because that is not a trope I like. But then you add aliens and possibly murder? And I'm suddenly really interested. Also hi Nanon, again.

Shows Which Hinges on Their Real Trailers and my Mood at the time

The Three Gentlebros - Three sons who end up dating three women their mother disapproves of? I'm far more interested in the brothers relationship as well as their relationship with their mother and how the mother acts with the three women than the romances but it seemed fun. Could have made one of the relationships gay though.

Home School - I still haven't watched The Gifted so I have no idea how close this is but it seems to be a horror boarding school thing. But I do like 'group of people isolated and terrified in one place' plots so I might give this one a go.

Ten Years Ticket - two families who were super close but then someone murdered someone, someone sent someone to prison and now there is tension and drama? This is tempting me, I will admit but it's not the kind of show I normally watch so we'll see what the actual trailer looks like.

Midnight Motel (Midnight Series) - a prostitute, a hotel manager and a tech genius meet up and decide to start an app that helps the prostitute to get work as quickly and safely as possible, cutting out her pimp and putting on the map to getting a sugar daddy/rich client. Of course the pimp isn't happy (but has great hair) and then someone dies and the three of them are unlikely accomplices. This looks like fun and the actors are ones I recognise. I look forward to shenangians.

My School President - looks very old school with enemies-to-lovers, music school president as to do whatever the student body president wants to keep the club. There is a music festival and a love triangle. It looks sweet but I'm fed up with bands/singing being in these shows. Can't we have an archeology club instead?

Vice Versa - okay I'm going for this one based on the strength of the world-hopping plot alone. The actual scenes of the guys together was fairly boring, both the romance and friendship scenes, and I would have really liked if there were a few extra women in this show, but it's on my maybe list.

Cupid's Last Wish - when they first started the trailer, I was there for it. Lovers to enemies to friends to lovers as the love interest character inherits some of the main character's family farm and he thinks they were only together so he could get the farm? And then they have to work together? Sounds so good! The boy and his sister gets into a car crash and his soul ends up in the sister's body? No! I hate bodyswap tropes and especially like this! You were doing so well, why spoil it?

The Warp Effect - my enjoyment of this entire show hinges on how they handle the lesbian storyline. Since the main line was 'my girlfriend wants a baby so sleep with me, doctor', I'm not holding out hopes for it. But there seems to be gay and lesbian characters in this so I will keep my fingers crossed. The rest of the show looks like a mess, the premise of the show being character thrown into their future self is interesting enough but the whole thing revolving around sex and him having taken and shared naked photos of them doesn't endear me to the main character.

Shows I Would Only Check Out If Someone Paid Me

Astrophile - a love triangle at the centre of the plot? And it's not even a little gay? No thank you, I have a low tolerance for love triangles at the best of times and when it's the only thing going on in the plot, it's definitely not my thing.

My Precious - After Bad Buddy, I love Ohm and Nanon as actors, but this plot is very much a Do Not Want for me. A gang of guys is in love with the same girl, the guy gets the girl's attention with misbehaviour, it's just all very blah for me. If the actual trailer happens and is much better, then I might bump this up but right now it's staying down here.

Good Old Days - antique shop where we follow six different stories for six different items, sounds great. The actual scenes of the stories, one of which includes the antique shop owner, were uninteresting to me. Next!

Mr Superstar Hit On Me - I could deal with the age difference, I could even deal with the whole famous/not famous relationship but having the mum and daughter want the same guy? I said it last year with that show they tried to sell us on, I do not like those kinds of romances. The mum having a problem with the age difference? Sure, let's talk about that! But having her interest being a point of conflict, not sure. This could be bumped up depending on the trailer.

My Dear Donovan - model and teacher romance with love triangle and murder? The mock trailer was confusing but I was prepared to be bored and just ended up confused. This probably wouldn't be a show for me but kudos to them for surprising me halfway through a trailer.

You Fight and I Love - a boxing show where a guy has been tasked to 'look after' his best friend's little sister and he does it by scaring off any other potential suitors while wanting her for himself. He says if he wins his match, she'll have to be his girlfriend. She seems unimpressed. I am bored by everything apart from the height difference between the two.

Devil Sister - Win and the woman have chemistry especially in the latter half of the trailer but again, love triangle, woman being evil boss, me being bored to tears. Nope. Not for me. I will say that the dress on the woman in the interview portion of the show introduction was amazing.
