#lotro cosmetic question

Hi Leafy,
I would like to ask you for help searching for the name of a specific cloak. Some time ago I saw a cloak on a character in the game that I immediately wanted for my RK. Unfortunately, that player was anonymous, AFK, and logged out before we could send an email with a question. And I couldn't catch the nickname. A classic situation :) The cloak was sewn with flames, so it looked as if individual pieces of fabric stood out plastically and were sewn onto the base. They were individual smaller flames. I can't remember more. I've been searching the web in vain and still can't find it. Do you have an idea, which cloak this one should be? Thanks!
Have a nice day,
Pavel M.
Hello!
Unfortunately, your description is rather vague. I’m thinking perhaps one of the Isengard cloaks, since the flames on the Minas Morgul cloaks are more “magical” looking. Do any of these look familiar?

If not, perhaps you could go into more detail about the kind of flames? There are some other fiery cloaks, but more like smouldering embers, and less actual flames.
Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. Apologies that I can’t provide a more specific answer.

HI its random questions time!!! Since it's coming up again, I would love to hear what your favourite part of the harvest festival in LOTRO is :D (I remember taking SO many pictures of the maze last year, i was ENTHRALLED)
Oh! Yes Harvestfest my beloved!! Oh gosh there’s so much, I love the questlines with Bingo Boffin and the Curse of Eerie Acres SO much, and really anything in Wistmead! It’s such a cool area and The Vibes are just *chef’s kiss*. But of course surprising no one, my favorite part has to be the cosmetics you can get! I always find the ones from this time of year make me go just a little bit insane

Muse questions - I'm gonna direct these at whichever of your LOTRO hobbits seems best suited to answer each!
What is in your pockets/bag/etc. right now? (I mean. How could we not ask this of a hobbit? :-D)
What scares you the most? And if it really happened… how would you deal with it?
Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names? What are they like personality-wise? Can we see them?
Do you have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? Do you go out of your way to always wear it when you can? Why is it your favorite?
What is in your pockets/bag/etc. right now?
Rhianlin: In my bag? *after some rummaging* Let's see.... treats for Rilli(raven comp) and Constance(badger pet), string for my braid.... *more rummaging, interrupted by a whoop of pleased surprise* THAT'S WHERE THAT WENT- a sketch I wanted to give Meneldir but couldn't find last night, some hard tack he gave me in case I get hungry, half an apple, sketchbook and charcoal, jerky.... couple changes of clothes, cornhusk d- figure Tegwyn gave me- it has a stick sword! Isn't that neat?
What scares you the most? And if it really happened… how would you deal with it?
Ziinia: Y'know, I hadn't really thought about that? *laughs* I guess either something happening that keeps me apart from my animals, or something bad happening to my family--there's a lot of us and we're all really close. I like to think I'd keep it together and think of a solution if either actually occurred, but I dunno. I love my family and my animals, so I'm not sure I wouldn't completely fall apart if one of those came to pass.
Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names? What are they like personality-wise? Can we see them?
Siltera: I've picked up a few in my travels. There's Rushes, she's a hound dog, very good for sniffing out mushrooms and following a scent, also loves to sleep. Looks at me with big sad eyes if I wake her early. Puddle is a black cat, doesn't much care what I do as long as I remember to feed her and will spend enough time sitting still she can use me as a seat part of the day. Squall is a crow I found out near Clegur; an avanc had knocked him into some reeds and his wing got caught. I wasn't expecting him to follow me around after I freed him, but he did. He's very good, if a touch mischievous. Likes to let out one ridiculous caw in the wee hours of the morning, just for the fun of it. Sometimes he brings me trinkets, I think in thanks for not shooing him off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(have wiki pictures of the pets bc I don't have screenies of them myself)
Do you have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? Do you go out of your way to always wear it when you can? Why is it your favorite?
Rhianlin: My blouse. My ma made it for me, an' put lots of pretty embroidery on the collar and sleeves, an' around the buttons. It's very soft and reminds me of home, so, yeah, I wear it a lot. [River Hobbit cosmetic blouse]
Ziinia: My gloves. I picked up these very sturdy fingerless gloves... awhile ago, and they've come in handy for so many things. I wear them just about all the time. [I thought they were anniversary cosmetic, but I don't see them listed]
Siltera: *sheepish smile* Mine's actually a somewhat recent addition that was given to me while I was traveling through Tharbad. *tugs out a sturdy cord necklace with a wolf's tooth hanging from it* It was given to me by a... fellow traveler--all the way from Gondor!--after I helped him retrieve some stolen property. *tucks it away, bites her lip* He was very kind, very courteous, and spun a wonderful story. He called this a lucky charm, and it's certainly proven so for me. [Lucky Wolf's Tooth pocket item from Boromir]

I have a vision which is ambitious but would be amazing if we could make it happen: a LotRO Cosmetics Wiki.
While trying to get my hands on the Deadly Defender's Bow, I've encountered many other instances of people searching for specific cosmetics, and most often these inquiries go unanswered, or were only answered years later, or in a well-meaning but not especially helpful way. Ideally a wiki dedicated to cosmetics would at the very least offer a centralized location to search for information, and where likeminded people could gather to share information (rather than these inquiries being relegated to forum posts destined to be buried and forgotten). It would also be a good place for people interested in cosmetics to come and browse possible options, and in the wiki structure would benefit from many editors, which would hopefully make it a more comprehensive resource than the many privately managed personal webpages out there. (These are excellent resources, but unfortunately limited by the time, focus, and interests of the individual people maintaining them.)
This would have to be its own separate wiki rather than expansions to the preexisting LotRO Wiki because of how I imagine pages being structured, with cosmetic appearance prioritized over all else. A typical page would look something like this:
Deadly Defender's Bow [in cases where multiple items share the same cosmetic, the most unique or memorable name would be chosen for the page name, unless the cosmetic is consistently available from a single source, such as a quest reward or barter vendor, in which case that name would take priority]
[Several screenshots of the cosmetic from different angles, including in the "sheathed" position and from different angles during combat. Wearable items should have a screenshot of them being worn by every race and gender, and ideally all screenshots should be in very high res and as zoomed in as possible, so as to show off the detail of the item. A written description might also be in order.]
Items that share this cosmetic:
Deadly Defender's Bow
[Location where this can be acquired. In the case of random loot drop items, like this, a level range (40-45) would be included, along with dated documentation of previous times people found it, so people have at least a 'previous sighting' to go off of. Documentation should be as thorough as possible, including, if known, the name of the enemy or container that it came from.]
Bow of Bluffing
[There are several bows with this name in game and not all of them share this appearance. If that is the case that should be noted, as well as any identifying markers that might suggest whether or not this is the bow in question, such as level or rarity.]
Ashwood Recurve Bow (obsolete)
[Obsolete items should be included for completeness' sake, when known, but they ought to go at the end of the list, and include a note that they are obsolete, along with the reasons why this is believed: in this case I managed to pull up the tooltip for this item in game and it includes buffs to skills that do not exist.]
The wiki system would also be perfect for this, as the category system would easily let people browsing for cosmetics look at "one-handed weapons" or "daggers" or "spring festival cosmetics" extremely easily, and I believe those pages could even be configured to include an image of each item for easy browsing.
The main issue I'm having right now is that I know very little about wiki hosting and am having a time of it learning. I don't want to host it on Fandom, as their ad-heavy system makes visiting one of their wikis a whole Project and I think that would go double for an image-heavy wiki with multiple images on every page. I'm looking at MediaWiki right now but I'm just having a lot of trouble grasping the basic concept behind how the server hosting works. If anyone understands it and would like to try to explain it to me I would very much appreciate it!

Hello! Earlier today I saw your post about LOTRO and on a whim downloaded it. I'm gonna be honest and say I don't really know much about the whole LOTR universe outside of like, the movies, but the way you wrote about it was really passionate and interesting. I haven't played yet since it's 3AM but I was wondering if you had any tips or anything?
Hi there! Wow, I’m honored that you liked my post enough to download the game! I really hope you like it. I’m not sure if you mean that you have or have not seen the movies, but honestly just that alone is enough to comprehend the game. They do an excellent job of keeping things coherent for any potential audience they may get as players. For those who are superfans, there’s a LOT of easter eggs and thoughtful, witty references to the deep lore (doing, of course, what they can with limited copyrights, aka. they can’t use Silmarillion material that wasn’t referenced in LOTR). Having an in-depth knowledge of background history and culture of Middle-earth regions and races always makes the experience richer (because they are very accurate and I get excited about that). But for those who aren’t long-time fans, so long as you have heard of Middle-earth and know about the general plot then you should be good to go!
The game takes place during the time of LOTR, and runs parallel to the book/movie events of the Fellowship of the Ring undertaking the journey to Mount Doom and Sauron waging war on the Free Peoples for control of the One Ring. You start out as a small person in a wide world, and eventually grow in prominence as a hero so that you are known throughout Middle-earth and travel to far-flung lands to help the Free Peoples. Sometimes you interact with the protagonists (Frodo, Legolas, Aragorn, etc) and directly move the plot along, but often you are doing the deeds that the great lords can’t afford to - staving off the darkness that tries to take hold under the noses of kings and armies. You save lives, reunite families, hold off invasions, and bring peace wherever you go. You end up being the front line against evil that creeps in from all sides, while the Fellowship undertake their appointed tasks far away.
That’s basically the gist of it. You’ll start off in tamer, more familiar regions - the Shire, Bree-land, Thorin’s Halls, and work your way to the plains of Rohan, the walls of Minas Tirith, and to Mordor itself. It’s an incredible journey, and you make countless friends along the way. Those relationships are one of LOTRO’s best features - people you help will come back to help you, paths cross again in unexpected ways, and your actions have lasting influences.
As for advice for a new player, hmmm…. I would recommend lotro-wiki  as a primary resource for learning aspects of the game, reading relevant lore, helping you find things or places you need, etc. You’ll start off the game in a closed-world intro until level 6 or so, where you’re taught the ropes - how to attack, interact, use the UI, and so on. But once you’re let loose, I say don’t feel the need to rush. Explore the world a bit - well, the parts where you’re on-level otherwise you’ll be DOA. But there’s a LOT to discover, and just wandering around your starter region, seeing what different NPCs do, can help you get your bearings. Turn off world chat lmao. You’ll be bombarded with stuff you don’t want, and it will clutter your gameplay (this is an option in your chat box, under filters, if you right click the general tab). Then you can actually hear yourself think! Follow the tutorials, some of the information can be difficult to find again if you skip it. Know also that there’s a lot of things you can do that isn’t given in tutorials. Emotes, dances, cosmetic clothing, pets, kinships, and much more, are things that you find in time, but if you know it sooner, you can get tricked out from an early level ;D If you are confused or don’t know how to do something, just ask. People will help! Additionally, I will say that for a first time player, hunter class may be a good idea (*boos from the crowd*). It’s generally regarded as an easy class, as it is ranged with high damage, and you will have teleport abilities and run speeds unmatched by any other class. However, choose what you want, and know that you’ll have a chance to play multiple classes with more characters!
Knowledge of the lore isn’t necessary for almost anything in the game - even if you RP, it rarely delves into serious Middle-Earth history lessons. Most people know something of ~generic fantasy worlds~ with elves, orcs, halflings, etc, at this point, since they’re all based off Tolkien. And I am sure for an unfamiliar player, the dialogue/plot will be even more interesting and exciting cause you will be learning about Middle-Earth - some of the best parts too, the little things, the day-to-day lives, the thoughts and feelings, hopes and apprehensions, of a world living in an age of war and uncertainty for the future of their existence, one with beings both young and very very old, all with different perspectives. Read NPC dialogue. It’s all incredibly well-written and enjoyable, and I’ve cried so many times at touching words. They’re not all happy endings, but they’re good stories. Knowing you have the power to make a difference fills you with such hope and strength!
Most of all, feel free to contact me in the game (or here) if you would like help, a tutorial or tour, or just someone to hang out with! Folks are very friendly. I hope you decide to join the Landroval server, which is where I am! It’s known as a social/laid-back roleplaying server that has a solid reputation for hospitality. There is also a chat channel - advice, I think - where you can ask your questions to the server world. Attend concerts, listen in on roleplaying (the Prancing Pony is best for that), participate in annual events like festivals or treasure hunts. Get the quadpack (contains major regions like Moria that you will need when you hit around level 50) during the Christmas sale. Buy other regions in-game with lotro points!
You’ll form a lasting bond with Middle-Earth and your place in it. Let me know how you’re liking it once you get settled! If you’d like to find me in-game, my most played characters are Namadith, Gorthauron, and Farrokhbulsara. Just send me a message using your mailbox, or add me as a Friend in your social panel, which will then alert you when I am online. You can then invite me to a fellowship or send me a tell (a DM). And after a while, if you find that you’d like to have company, you can join a kinship and be part of a community (maybe even ours, Dwarrowdam!).

I was tagged by @ashenslades who Tumblr claimed I wasn’t following, but I regularly get their posts anyway. Following now!
I think at the end I’m supposed to come up with more questions and tag someone else, but I’m TERRIBLE at asking questions except to students in class and you really don’t want to go there. Also, most of the people I follow have already done this for somebody. So not tagging anyone at the end. Just thought some of my friends might want to see my answers. However, if you want to answer these excellent LOTRO questions by @ashenslades, please do! I’d love to see your answers!
Thanks for the LOTRO questions, though. I might actually be able to answer some. :)
What was the first class you ever played? Hunter
Favorite starter area? Haven’t done the High Elf thing, but I like the Man/Bree story line. On the other hand, the Dwarf area starts you getting Thorin’s Hall rep early...
Would you rather quest in Mirkwood or Enedwaith? I’m a fan of Mirkwood. Looks like the woods I grew up in, though those weren’t crawling with orcs and wargs.
Have you ever done the In Their Absence questline? I don’t think I’ve ever finished it, though started it on several alts.
Is there a class you thought you would love but just can’t get into? Burg. Tried it, got to like lvl 30 and just gave up. Might have been different if I’d been in a fellowshipping kin at the time.
Do you have any favorite cosmetic pets? Kind of fond of my squirrel. I love the baby Mumak, but I don’t have one.
What’s the name of your (current or future) primary Legendary Item? Just got a bow on Dwolkin named Orc Piercer. My favorite that I’m no longer using was called “With Thanks to a Friend”
Is there a music theme in game that you never tire of hearing? There’s a nice drum solo in Angmar that isn’t too annoying. ;) LOTRO music is wonderful, but I can only handle it in small doses. Probably part of my Sensory issues. Most of the time I play with the music either off or turned WAY down.
Have you ever done chicken play? Oh yes. Still have a couple more runs that I’ve never done, though.
Are you a Weatherstock Wayfarer? Yes. Though I gotta admit, I mostly go to check the health of my graphics card. ;) It’s very much like a fiddle festival. After 15 minutes, it all starts to sound pretty much alike.
Would you rather have one cosmetic outfit in multiple colors, or multiple cosmetic outfits in the same color? Multiples in the same color scheme! Change with the seasons. Festival outfits and working outfits. Don’t need a full suit of armor to go fishing! (At least most of the time!)

Tagged by @ashenslades -- LotRO questions? How could I not? (even if a bit late! :( )
rules: answer 11 questions, ask 11 questions of your own, tag 11 people.
1. What was the first class you ever played?
Hunter!
2. Favorite starter area?
Elven Ered Luin. ;)
3. Would you rather quest in Mirkwood or Enedwaith?
LotRO Mirkwood isn’t really Mirkwood. I mean it is, but it’s Southern Mirkwood, and you never get to do anything with Northern Mirkwood, whereas Enedwaith is where I meet my favourite NPC so....Nona. I mean, Enedwaith.
4. Have you ever done the In Their Absence questline?
I haven’t...since it’s group content and I’m a largely solo player (or duo), but...I know that’s really no excuse. Especially since I’m in kins that do group content...
5. Is there a class you thought you would love but just can’t get into?
Runekeeper. I love the idea, I love that it’s a basically a language/power of words class (as a linguist that is especially awesome)....but I just can’t bring myself to play my runekeeper.
6. Do you have any favorite cosmetic pets?
The Ginger Kitty you can barter for in Osgiliath...any of the birds--whether birds of kite-birds.
7. What’s the name of your (current or future) primary Legendary Item?
I’m very fond of Mr. Pointy (especially for spears). I also like having Win 95, Win XP, and Win Vist-oh-no.
8. Is there a music theme in game that you never tire of hearing?
Most of it. Tom Bombadil’s theme ranks especially high. Celondim music, Rivendell...*coughs* the intro music to Moria...
9. Have you ever done chicken play?
Lol, not what I would have called it, but yes.
10. Are you a Weatherstock Wayfarer?
Yes, and this year I finally have the title to prove it!
11. Would you rather have one cosmetic outfit in multiple colors, or multiple cosmetic outfits in the same color?
The second...it’s what I largely do on some toons (seriously olive and umber dye make of most of my outfits, all of them on some toons, and I could easily deal with just olive or another shade of green).
I have to come up with 11 questions...they are definitely not going to be better than these...but let’s go with...cosplay/arts questions...?
1. Have you ever cosplayed?
2. Is there any character that you want to cosplay more than any other in the whole...universe?
3. Painting: finger-painting, acrylics, oils, etc?
4. Ever worked with paper mache?
5. Colouring:  chalk, crayons, pencils, markers, paints, (other)?
6. Ever wanted to do a non-easy traditional media, like frescos? What is that media, and what do you want to do with it?
7. Thoughts on calligraphy?
8. LEDs or electronics in your work?
9. Arduino or Raspberry pi (if you’re into those things)?
10. Ever done leathercrafting of any sort?
11.Craft foam--the best material in the universe, or the bestest material? (j/k--ever use it for anything?)
I always feel so uncomfortable tagging people, so if I tag you, no need to do it, and if I don’t tag you but you want to do it--feel free! I’d love to see what you do! (consider this me tagging you if you want to, and I don’t get you in here, @avoyagetoarcturus @headinfantasy @tenwhiteapricots @asgardian--angels  @chaosshard @oldgrumpycosplay @pazithigallifreya @olkili @elfmaiddryope

LOTRO Themed 11 Questions
What was the first class you ever played?
Lore Master!
Favorite starter area?
I want to say Ered Luin because of the diversity of the landscape and because it was my first area I ever played in but The Shire is very lovely and a very friendly and fun place to start.
Would you rather quest in Mirkwood or Enedwaith?
Both are beautiful and have some very fun quest lines but I’ll have to go with Mirkwood.
Have you ever done the In Their Absence questline?
Some of it! I’m up to Sâri-surma. I’ve enjoyed the story so far.
Is there a class you thought you would love but just can’t get into?
I’ve only played Lore Master, Hunter, and Guardian. LM and Hunter are both pretty fun but I’m finding Guardian a little slow.
Do you have any favorite cosmetic pets?
The bunnies and the fluffy sheep from the Anniversary Festival. The kites are also really pretty.
What’s the name of your (current or future) primary Legendary Item?
My LM staff is named Echo of Telperion.
Is there a music theme in game that you never tire of hearing?
Aaah, I don’t know that I can pick one. The Rohan music is very nice.
Have you ever done chicken play?
Just one or two of the starter quests. I crash too much to try anything else, lol.
Are you a Weatherstock Wayfarer?
No.
Would you rather have one cosmetic outfit in multiple colors, or multiple cosmetic outfits in the same color?
Several outfits.

Welcome to Lotro à la Mode, aka the Leafyfoots Wardrobe.
Hail friends and well met! I am Valky™ Leafyfoots, Seeker of Rare Cosmetics in Arda, LOTRO Outfitting Enthusiast, and Farmer of T2C/T5 for Pretty Gear. You may recognize my cosmetic shenanigans on Instagram (@/leafyfoots). Feel free to call me Lady Leafyfoots (or Valk, like most people do).
This side blog is intended to document my outfits and other LOTRO screenshots because infinite scroll without search on Instagram is a really questionable design choice. I want people (including myself) to be able to search for outfits by character race, class, and color palette. I play exclusively female characters. Apologies to folks looking for male character outfit ideas! In general, I will include the names and dyes of pieces used, though usually not the location or method by which to acquire the item because I am lazy and will not back-fill old descriptions. LOTRO Wiki will be your friend in cases like these if you are looking to find particular items. Of course, you are also welcome to just ask me here and I’ll do my best to help out.
Most of my documented outfits are original creations, but I also use adapted appearances created by other LOTRO outfit bloggers when adventuring around that may also appear on here. These will always be noted in the descriptions!
Please prepare yourself for an onslaught of LOTRO outfits from the last year or two. I haven’t gone through my archives dating back to 2013, but you better believe those might show up here as well one day.

hey I got a question for my fellow LOTRO cosmetic enthusiasts, how many slots of shared wardrobe space have you acquired? I have... an amount that I'm not proud of... (I think my LOTRO impulse purchasing is helping keep the devs fed, so there's that at least)
I ask mostly because it's gotten to the point that my game will lag whenever I open my wardrobe, and I'm not sure if this is a problem a lot of other players encounter or if I Have A Cosmetic Problem

If SSG wants us to get our Motes and Figments out of lootboxes what’s to stop me from making an alt, playing for like 30 minutes until I either get three lootboxes or can get myself to an auction house where I can just buy the lootboxes, and then using the three free keys I get for having played the game for three years or whatever to collect whatever’s in the boxes, and then deleting the character and doing the exact same thing again?

Calling All LOTR fans! Why aren’t you on LOTRO yet??
Hey everyone! It’s Molly here - aka, Sauron’s #1 fan lmao.
Now, we’re a big fandom, between LOTR and the Hobbit and the Silm, there’s millions of us out there, and thousands on Tumblr! And we’re always looking for new ways to experience and interact with Tolkien’s legendarium. Plus, many of us have an overlapping interest in gaming, of any sort. But even if you don’t - read on, I implore you!
There’s an incredibly awesome free MMORPG out there, one that I’ve been playing for years. It’s called LOTRO - Lord of the Rings Online - and it’s gotta be my absolute favorite interpretation of Middle-Earth ever.
Tumblr media
For those not aware, an MMORPG is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, basically an open world PC game that has thousands of other users you can interact with within the confines of the game’s universe. And in this case, that’s Middle-Earth!
Everything you know and love about Tolkien’s world is brought to life in stunning thoughtful detail, from the rolling hills of the Shire to the eaves of Fangorn and beyond. You become an integral part of the story of Middle-Earth, assisting the Fellowship both directly and in the littler ways that count most of all - staving off the forces of darkness by doing good deeds and helping the folk of Eriador, Rhovanion, and Gondor. Everything you do ripples outwards to influence the fate of Arda itself! Without you, there would be no hope for the Fellowship to succeed in its dire quest. Traveling from land to land, you become beloved and treasured as a hero by all the free peoples of Middle-Earth, royal and common folk alike. While you may start out small, soon your path will bring you to the feet of great lords and kings, and onto the very doorstep of Mordor itself, where the Dark Lord awaits. Fight the fell beasts of Sauron, skip through the Old Forest with Tom Bombadil, and ride your warsteed across the vast open plains of Rohan - the world is yours to explore, and to save, if you can. Middle-Earth depends on you.
Tumblr media
I truly can’t overstate how much I love LOTRO. I’ve been playing for five years now and I am just as much in love with it as the day I first started. It’s always a little dicey, as a Tolkien fan, especially if you’re a highly devoted one, trying to judge and decide if an interpretation of his work will enhance your experience or ruin it - you just want to see justice done by him and everything he stood for. Trust me, I’m like that too (there’s no need to talk about a certain upcoming Amazon series...). So believe me when I tell you that the spirit of Tolkien comes alive in this game. The creators, writers, and designers of LOTRO have put so much thought and care, and heart, into staying true to Tolkien’s vision and messages. Great attention and care is paid with respect to accuracy to the lore and languages Tolkien created as well, something that cements the authenticity of LOTRO for diehard fans. You just feel good playing it (and honestly, I feel like it’s helped my self-esteem?? Those little virtual hobbits are so grateful for everything you do). Warm fuzzies all around. With a fair helping of angst, can’t forget that. Not all stories can have happy endings, but with your help, a whole lot of them can.
Tumblr media
So... maybe you’ve read this far, and are a teensy bit interested? Or at least intrigued. This is a chance to expand the world of Tolkien to something you can actually immerse yourself in, be a part of, explore like never before! Wander the cobblestone streets of Bree, smell the pipe-smoke in the Prancing Pony, feel the chill winds of the icy wastes of Forochel upon your face. Do you have the guts to face the Witch-King himself?
LOTRO has so much to offer! Whether you are interested from a gaming perspective, or a story perspective, it’s endless fun. Before LOTRO I’d never played an MMO, and I certainly would not consider myself a gamer. I came from a love of Middle-Earth, and came for a chance to see that story brought to life. So don’t count it out if you think you’re not up for some hardcore gaming lifestyle - this game has the pace that you set for it. Whether you join a social kinship and roleplay, a raid group to do skirmishes, or go it alone and fish the day away, the possibilities are endless.
Tumblr media
Plus, I feel like it’s worth stating that the scenery in LOTRO is astoundingly beautiful. It’s not uncommon for my friends and I to ride around just for the view. And you know what else? The music, guys. Just, the music. LOTRO has been blessed these many years with composer Chance Thomas, who has crafted some of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard - comparable to those of the Lord of the Rings films themselves. He truly encapsulates the emotions, the grandeur, the coziness, the uneasiness, the dread and the joy, of every corner of Middle-Earth. (It’s so well-loved by players that TWO official soundtracks were even put out, and I play them in my car all the time, ngl. Check out one of the Rohan tracks here!)

So, for the nitty gritty that you may be wondering about! This is a great time to join LOTRO. Over the years, the game has grown tremendously, adding more regions of Middle-Earth to quest in, building more storylines, and expanding the characters you can have, the clothes you can wear, and the activities you can do! Currently, you can play several races - Man, Dwarf, Elf, High Elf, Hobbit, and Beorning - as well as a wide variety of classes - hunter, lore-master, rune-keeper, burglar, champion, minstrel, captain, guardian, and warden- each with their own unique stories and abilities. Multiple characters can be created for free on one account. There’s a wide customization capability for characters and cosmetic items, for housing, steeds, emotes, pets, and more. That’s part of what makes LOTRO so fun! Most expansions can be purchased in-game using points earned by completing deeds, making LOTRO affordable and FTP (free to play) for a large proportion of its content. Additionally, we have an incredibly thorough and comprehensive Wiki-style website for all LOTRO-related information. This is an incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming community.
...Did I add that there’s maiar in the game too? If you have a keen eye you’ll spot them.

Molly why are really you making this post?
Now, earlier I mentioned kinships. Traveling Middle-Earth can often be more fun with others, and having friends can help you learn the game and offer advice and insight. They can be roleplay partners, band members (yes, you can play instruments in the game!), or just buddies to talk to. Many LOTRO players are in kinships, and each is different, depending on what you want to get out of the experience. You can find a kinship within the game, or on social media - in fact, I found my kinship, the one I’ve been in all these years, right here on Tumblr! I want to extend that hand in friendship to potential new players that are in the position I was all those years ago.
Our humble kinship is called Dwarrowdam. You may recall this is the name for a lady-dwarf! While many of our members are dwarrowdams, that is by no means a prerequisite. We welcome players of all races and classes. Dwarrowdam is a casual social kinship, where we enjoy helping others out, from learning the ropes to festival activities, deeding, raids, concerts, and much more. We host weekly kin nights, where we get together and have fun for a couple of hours. This kinship has been going almost since the start of LOTRO itself, and we are eager to meet new people! A few of our higher-ranking members have had to depart after many years, due to real life commitments, and we hope to build our ranks again. We all thoroughly enjoy mentoring new players, myself included. Dwarrowdam would be a great choice for kinship for any player just starting out, or a continuing player looking for a relaxed social atmosphere as part of their gameplay experience! We are located on the Landroval server, which itself is known for its friendliness and its roleplay opportunities. It is our hope that gaining a solid handful of new, active members will allow our kinship to return to its former glory. Kinships can fizzle out and dissolve if too many players leave, and that is the last thing we want to happen to Dwarrowdam. It’s been like a home for me and many others, and I believe we can restore it.

I am an officer in the Dwarrowdam kinship, along with Badari and Daerhovan. We strongly encourage you to contact us with any questions you might have, about the kinship or LOTRO itself, or if you would like to join Dwarrowdam.
Anyone who loves Tolkien and Middle-Earth should give LOTRO a try. For me, finding it was like filling a hole in my life I never knew existed. It’s thrilling, peaceful, emotional, hopeful, all in one - basically, everything that the stories we know and love already are, but brought to life in front of us. I’d like to think that if you tried it, you’d love it as much as I do. And if you’re in need of a kinship, please consider Dwarrowdam.
And besides, look at Gandalf and his bushy eyebrows. You can’t say no to that.

Harlots of Arda - Elf-maid of Discrete Trade
Although April Fool's has passed, here is my one and only horribly lore-breaking outfit. I'm not proud of creating this monstrosity, but I am a little haha. For me, one of the the draws of LOTRO is that there is not a single piece of revealing gear for lady toons. The questionable V-neck for every chest-plate is a different issue, but for the most part, the game has done a respectable job of maintaining the immersive nature.
This entire debacle came about around when Far Anórien and Beornings were first introduced. It turned out that most chest pieces were becoming "onesies" cosmetically and leggings were neglected in the visuals department. A quest reward was one such piece and is probably the most revealing leggings I've ever seen in game. And so begun this running joke of finding the most skin-revealing pieces of gear and gallivanting around Middle-Earth as a member of the Harlots of Arda. Remember, it's 100% natural ankle!
Head: Fine Elven Circlet Chest: Zigilburk's Finder - black Glove: Leather Bracers of the Learned Stag - crimson Leg: Leggings of the Anórien Tree - black Boot: Westemnet Skirmish Boots of Determination - red
