If I want to go to university, I’ll have to start working extra hard. My bus ride to school is so long that I miss half my first and last class, all my books are second hand, and chores on the commune take up most of my time in the evening. But mama has been trying so hard to fill my brain with anti-government, anti-school system rhetoric that I have to get good grades - that’ll show her.
And so far it’s working! I excelled in the school’s science fair and I aced my most recent exams. My grades have improved...I just hope it’s enough to impress Britechester University. I want to pursue a distinguished degree in history...
I didn’t want to apply with the stupid name mama gave me, so I went down to the courthouse yesterday and got it changed officially.
heyyy can you recommend some good books? preferably the ones who inspired you or fundamentally changed you as a person type
yeah! it'll be ones from very recent memory but if i remember more i'll add them to the list lol ok here: maybe you should see someone by lori gottlieb (i was put off by the title of this but it's acc very good and made me cry a lot), crying in h mart by michelle zauner, aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe benjamin alire sáenz, sorrowland by rivers solomon, flowers for algernon by daniel keyes, a thousand splendid suns by khaled hosseini, gone girl by gillian flynn, from margin to center by bell hooks, the midnight library by matt haig (it's cheesy but it's pretty sincere), all the light we cannot see by anthony doerr, little women by lousia may alcott, on earth we're briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong, circe by madeline miller, beloved by toni morrison, reasons to stay alive by matt haig, the perks of being a wallflower by stephen chbosky YES im serious NO idc that it became so overexposed it was cringe -- it's a really good book re mental illness, trauma and adolescence. please look up the trigger warnings for these books beforehand if you decide to read any as most of them are very heavy!! <3
Desperate now, Daniel turned to Hondo Ohnaka for a risk-free, high payout job.
Hondo: "With your criminal record doing anything shady in Black Spire is out of question. But I know about a casino at Canto Bight..."
Daniel: "That's gambling and as such not risk-free!"
Hondo: "...that's "Days since getting robbed" counter is in need of a reset."
Daniel: "Hm... Go on, tell me more!"
Procure equipment for the heist... visit Canto Bight at least once as a tourist to get intel... recruit two fellow robbers... Maybe not him, though. After all the roles this man had played since Daniel had met him, he might decide to get a job at the Canto Bight police department next.
Caroline Spilph was the most obvious choice. Not only had it been her, who had dragged Daniel into his criminal second life in the first place, Caroline was also well accustomed to visiting posh places from back when the landspeeder business had still been booming. Not Canto Bight level of luxury, but close enough to blend in.
The second recruit was Lori Keye, the girl who was so eager to proof herself to the Resistance.
Caroline: "So you and me get a share each and Lori will buy our landspeeders from her share? Works for me!"
what books do you think violet would read that weren't seen in the show? also, you're my favorite violet account and your posts are always so helpful!!
Thank you, it means a lot to me!
In Afterbirth Ben said to Vivien that he envisioned their family around a fireplace and “Violet was reading some depressing Russian novel.” It was likely something by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Though “The Golovlyov Family” by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin would be more than fitting!
Other books that I could see her reading based off what we've seen:
“The Collector” by John Fowles [genre: Thriller, Horror fiction]
“Faces in the Water” by Janet Frame [genre: Psychological, Fiction]
“Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson [genre: Young adult fiction]
“The Quiet Room” by Lori Schiller [genre: Nonfiction, Psychological]
“Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes [genre: Sci-fi]
“The Book of Disquiet” by Fernando Pessoa [genre: Philosophical]
“A Short History of Decay” by Emil Cioran [genre: Philosophical]

Lori had Octavia and me over for a sleepover at her house in town. Her house is so ordinary - I could never have a sleepover, I don’t want people to see that I share a little cabin in the middle of nowhere with all my siblings!
Anyhow. The sleepover. Diary, it was amazing. We camped out in the basement, where they’ve got a television and a turntable and a bar (we didn’t drink, of course). We watched The Adventures of Spaceship Simulation and Octavia taught us card games. She knows so many things, I never know what to say when she’s around...I feel like a kid around her, even though she’s only a year older.
Lori fell asleep pretty early...and then it was just me and Octavia. We were trying to be quiet so Lori could sleep and we ended up getting into a pillow fight where both of us were trying so hard not to laugh and wake her up. It was so much fun. I hope we can have another sleepover again soon...
