The city of Vratimov, which has a population of around 8,000, which can be found not far from Ostrava (Czech Republic), has been boasting Sonda for a few years now. They were designed by the Ostrava studio Stolařík Architekti and are a small public library intended for the public. The simple construction has already become part of urban furniture in eight places in cities. The local library takes care of the books and magazines, or the citizens themselves add titles.

🐓BOOK REVIEW : Well Behaved Wives -Amy Sue Nathan @amysuenathan (Lake Union Publishing)

Well Behaved Wives is very hard to put down. This historical novel is full of family drama and generational clashes as young Ruth is doing her best to adapt to her newly married life and achieve her dream of becoming a lawyer.

As she is doing her best to satisfy her new in-law mother, Ruth has also to learn etiquette and lifestyle of her new posh Philadelphia neighborhood. We are in the 1960s and women are expected to stay at home, being perfect while waiting for their husband to come home. It is not what Ruth wishes for in her life and the heroine is determined to do everything she can to achieve her independence dream, while pleasing her new family.

Amy Sue Nathan‘s writing is delicious. I find myself totally immersed in the story, wanting to know more about Ruth’s life, as well as what happens to the other women of the neighborhood. Definitively a nice discovery and a very interesting historical novel.

Arkansas reading update: Got this adorable vintage copy of Valley of the Dolls at the Little Free Library on Harrison, AR. Today’s read is pictured with everyday mask and my vax sticker as a bookmark. It is a powerful book about Indigenous resistance and ancestral connection. Family and ancestors are at the heart of the young heroine’s quest, as they give her courage and confidence to continue on her chosen path.
