Just watching too much msp so let's talk about ep 4. I think ep 4 is sometimes overlooked because of how much stronger ep 5 and 6 are in terms of the emotions showcased. But what really caught my eye was the use of colours in ep 4 so leggo.

Gotta appreciate how much colour is brought into the Student Council room with just a touch of Gun's magic. The stark white to this beautiful mess of colours. There's a lot of pink, orange and purple hues in the scene and the diffused light makes everything appear soft. Gives off very romantic vibes. Really sets the tone for how Tinn and Gun's relationship is slowly evolving. From enemies to friends, acquaintances to somewhat friends and potentially more.

I want to thank whoever decided to get that huge neon sign of cafe in pink because its perfect. Just the right colour for the ambience. It's definitely the centre of the display of colours. Also interesting how they show us the Student Council room through a window. We can see how the outside remains the same after the decor but the inside has changed so much. Kind of like how Gun entered Tinn's life and changed his life in monochrome to a life full of colour. All the emotions he could experience just because Gun decided to sing that day in the cafe. Love these hurt comfort vibes.

All the flirting happens while they're covered in pink hues. It's almost like they're blushing or something. And there's also Tiw rolling his eyes while he's covered in shades of orange. Tinn going wide eyed when Gun kind of flirts with him and as they get closer, all the other colours go out of focus, just leaving the pinks. Interesting how when Tinn and Gun are being romantic, you can only see the pinks but when where is warm interaction we see a lot of orange instead.

Back to the warmth of the yellow and orange shades as Tinn and Gun get some distance between them and get to their tasks. Even without being flirty, we can feel the intimacy building as the colours shift.

Then we enter a new scene with an almost sage green background. The colours are muted and not as vibrant, almost grounded as Tinn and Gun's converse about their experiences and fears. A lot more light and shadows present in the scene. There's more contrast compared to the previous scenes in the Student Council room. Tinn and Gun have simple but meaningful conversations which are crucial in understanding and connecting with people. I really enjoy how they develop Tinn and Gun's relationship and it's interesting to see much emotional connections form, with such dull colours as the backdrop. Love doesn't have to be bright and scorching.

Later in the episode, as Tinn asks Gun to go back to the Music Club, the pinks fade and the orange hues are more pronounced. And when Tinn worries about Gun, we see just a hint of pink shine on him.

When Gun returns to the Music Club, we have the same muted ochre and green in the background. But as he brings back Sound to the group and they perform together, the pink and purple lights are brought back. Really highlights how love isn't just romantic and there are so many different types of love. Even love between friends is such an important form of love.

After the performance, Gun comes back to the Student Council Room and we get to see my fav neon sign. As Tinn and Gun sit facing each other, the colours are a lot darker on Tinn's side than Gun. Tinn looks like he is drowning in the pink hues whereas Gun is slowly getting dyed by the pink. To me, it symbolises how Tinn is sure of his feelings for Gun (took him only 2 years of crushing on Gun to get here) and Gun's feelings aren't as strong but he's somewhere along the way.

And ofc THE scene. Funny how Gun pulls Tinn for a with the neon sign as the backdrop and now they're both pink. A lot of glances and Tinn seeks confirmation from Gun before entangling their pinkies together. And they're finely holding onto each other. Definitely kids in love. And I'm definitely not thinking about how Gun's attention is constantly on Tinn's lips. Nope, not me.

So, basically, a lot of pinks which are always pleasant to look at. It's kind of cute considering what stage they were at in their relationship at that time in the show.

A lot of assumptions and inferences by me so nothing to be taken too seriously. And a lot of overthinking, again by me. Funny I wrote an entire post appreciating the use of the pink considering how long I hated that colour. The things msp makes me do. Anyway, gotta go watch msp again.

ohoooo spotify wrapped is here, let's see which gay thai drama song i listened to the most this year djdjdjfj

last year i was shocked to find khaotung's over the moon on #1, beating all the bbs ost songs (which immediately followed over the moon on no. 2-4). what surprises will spotify have in store for me this year 👀

P'Mix's MVs are always super fun and unapologetically queer and I love her as a songwriter! This song is actually over two years old but I first listened to it after ฟ้ารักพ่อ (DILF) went viral and she came out with her debut album that included this song. But I'm pretty sure I became properly obsessed with it after hearing the RnB arrangement that (surprise surprise 🤡) ZeeNuNew performed during the DMDLand2 concert. Also wanna shoutout that time New and P'Erk Chrrissa covered it together during a live session because it made me hope P'Mix might one day write a song for New!

Now this one's a real wildcard lmao It is literally the only song on my On Repeat that isn't written or performed by a Thai artist! I came across it through a KPop random dance vid so obviously I had to link the Studio Choom performance. The choreo is so fun and, to this day, some of my favorite KPop songs are funky just like this one. I don't know who this group is btw (like I literally only found out through this tag game that they're an SM group lol) since I stopped following KPop artists and trends when I fell into my lil Thai and QL corner here so sorry if I sound like your typical clueless local now 😂

P'Zee recently said he didn't enjoy singing before he met New but that he's found joy in it after singing with him a lot. And he's improved so much! My favorite will always be when he sings ballads and love songs like this one though. (fyi this song is like 40 years old so you might have heard it covered by other artists before)

2023 Recap - Songs from (QL) Dramas

Thank u for the tag @troubled-mind !! Choosing my top 10 songs from qls isn’t too difficult but I’m gonna force myself to stick to shows that came out in 2023 only

1. Bitter by Roce - FROM MY FAV BL OF THE YEAR UTSUKUSHII KARE (2)!!!! I’m only counting this one (& not follow by roce) cuz the first one didn’t come out in 2023. There is just something so addicting about it. I think at one point in the year it may have been in my top 10 songs of 2023 lol

2. Plumeria by Cocktail - the INSTRUMENTALS. the YEARNING. the ROMANCE! IFYLITA is one of the best bls of all time and that INCLUDES its osts…

3. ต้องโทษดาว… by Bird Thongchai - ever since it played in last twilight I’ve found myself going back to it quite a bit

4. รักคุณยิ่งกว่าใคร by NuNew (cover) - this cover is probably my fav ost from not just cutie pie 2 you but all of cutie pie! Nunew slayed

5. Hook by Gemini Norawit - if I don’t put hook on this list I’d be a LIAR. I was listening to the new hook version of msp credits when they dropped on loop for way too long before the full song came out lmfao

6. Come Closer by Ford Arun - out of all my bl songs harp covers this was my fav to do. Ford’s voice is beautiful and it was in this moment I felt a switch go off in me while watching msp and I knew I’d be hooked (no msp ost pun intended…)! Another fav bl ost of all time ngl

7. City by Gemini Norawit & Fourth Nattawat (cover) - ur out of ur mind if u don’t think I’m gonna put at least THREE songs from the damn MUSICAL bl… anyway this is the highest ost from a ql in my 2023 top songs of the year lol (it’s at 11th place!)

8. Is This Love by Better Weather - cheating bc yes I got into this song from love sick which is NOT a 2023 show… the actual song (as in, not the cover that they did for love sick (which I listened to more)) was used in the cherry magic Thailand pilot trailer and I’m saying it counts enough! It’s a complete ear worm and I physically cannot get it out of my head…

9. My Fault by Bain (JUST B) - one of those songs you listen to on repeat for a few days tbh. and I did! (Also from one of the fewer higher tiered kbls this year imo..I rlly liked sing my crush)

10. Night Owl by Anonymouz - I liked Jack o' frost! I may have liked the ost more…?? I listened to it a LOT…

The order doesn’t really matter in this list but ya these are the ones I rlly enjoyed hehe

i associate mandopop a lot with the ballad songs of the 2000s by the "old guard" (jj lin, stephanie sun and jay chou, mostly), which is nowadays an age past that invokes nostalgia. it comes from when i was younger and in the car, where my dad put on all the jay chou songs. because my whole music taste here was shaped by my parents the stuff i like tends to gravitate towards the mandarin ballads of the 2000s and the hits from hong kong in the 80s and 90s (hacken lee, grasshopper and beyond).

meanwhile my english taste mostly comes from an eclectic collection of random stuff, including the synthwave russian we call "sovietwave" (although i've moved to rock in russian. i still havent listened to aquarium im lazy).

in other words, i avoid anything from after about 2010, with certain exceptions (the songs used by shirokoi in repeat, a few mandopop songs (《速食愛情》 comes to mind the most at the moment), thai (its different), bill wurtz). it's silly

*the thai stuff comes from the general 70s-00s era i enjoy and the msp ost

Six recent song favourites

Thank you for tagging me @petrichoraline 💖 I’m always listening to music and update my playlist regularly, so choosing only six songs is soooo hard 🤣

firstly, the entire MSP OST is in there at the moment (of course), but my current fave is Just Being Friendly. Honourable mention to Saliva and Hook which were both on repeat for days.

The Moon Represents My Heart (月亮代表我的心) by Teresa Teng is also there. Fun fact - instead of studying for an exam I learnt how to play it on piano 😆

there’s an artist from Malaysia, Namawee, who is just insanely talented and who ranges from parody songs to political commentary to just the most random topics. He does a Lunar new year themed song most years. I’m currently listening to We Are Nothing and it brings me to tears every time.

Gold by Paloma Faith is amazing, her voice is just gorgeous.

the last two are both older, and randomly chosen from my playlist - only criteria for the choice was that I had to have included them in every updated playlist for the last year 😂

Believer by Imagine Dragons and Church by Fall Out Boy.

First ost !! i'm glad it's this song, because my first exposure to msp was a clip of this scene, which made actually start the show

4. Teenage Cliché - Loving Caliber

This was in the background of a scene in never let me go, and i had to go search it up as soon as i heard it. It's exactly the type of music i used to listen to like 5 years ago, so it feels very nostalgic for me.

5. Tu/You - Armaan Malik

Armaan Malik's a great singer in general, i think i heard this song for the first time tho in a heartliming edit? i'm not entirely sure, but it's so good

6. เป็นเธอใช่ไหม(Have I Found) - Sea Tawinan

One of my fav osts ever. It's so calming and i also listened to it a lot around the start of the year when i was on a beach holiday, so it just reminds of waves and sunsets and rain :)

7. คิด(แต่ไม่)ถึง (Same Page?) - Tilly Birds

Can't listen to this without thinking of bad buddy (which i'm not complaining about), but this also makes me feel so nostalgic :((

I never actually watched the simm our skyy 2 but this song slaps, probably one of the best os2 osts for me. the chorus !!! is so good ahh

ผู้โชคดี (The Lucky One) - 9x9 From the Great Men Academy ost !!! literally such a banger, i've been listening to it for at least an hour or two everyday for the last 2 weeks (not even exaggerating) This should be number 1 but i usually listen to it on my phone, not using spotify

Hidden Track - Trinity Ahh another banger !! only listened to it for the first time a couple days ago but has been on repeat since. I actually prefer listening to this one live version on youtube, so technically this should also be higher lol

Something different from when I first made my bl ost poll lol! I hadn’t seen utsukare at the time but now that I have it’s Consumed Me and so has the ost. I love how the lyrics match the series so well but it’s also just a great song on its own. I find that I tend to really like osts from Japanese qls

I love so many msp songs but I’ll choose hook as a fav for the hype I felt for the release after we heard a bit in the credits. Gemini is a great singer and I’m so happy he got an ost despite not being a part of chinzhilla in msp lol

Yes I’m doing an extra sixth one for this. I actually quite like the love sick soundtrack and this might be my fav out of all of them. This particular ost is a cover and the original song by better weather came out over a decade ago. I noticed it again (as the original) used in the cherry magic Thailand trailer which I thought was fun :) anyway, I keep getting it stuck in my head
