yo, Neon does Chase celebrate Chinese New Year with his family when they all can?
I need this information for research purposes. It's really important. ☝🏽👁👄👁
👁 👄👁pls
Yeah! The Lisong family celebrates the Chinese New Year with some good food, some red envelopes for the kids, and maybe something in the nearby city if they have time. They probably watch a stream of a fireworks show back home, as fireworks laws tend to be a bit restrictive in the Plains states and I don't think they'd want to risk it themselves. Chase and Minnie usually get to invite a friend or two each to join the celebration.
Happy New Year!

Vitrail went to the graveyard and after playing around with her magic was able to contact Limerick. They caught up with each other. Apparently Limerick was always around, his spirit was just too weak to manifest on its own for the most part but he stayed close to Tamarind and Maple. Ode had passed on when Luna arrived. After making sure Villanelle was safe they left together. The greatest bit of comfort was that Limerick confirmed that Rondeau was safe. He was injured and his identification was missing which is why news had been scarce but had pulled through. It was only a matter of time before he came home. Cinquain had passed on once he knew that his family was safe before Lisong went missing but Limerick promised his mother that he would keep an eye out for her spirit before returned to being undetectable.

Official knacks in the Brothers Apart multiverse
Though there are many different stories, no matter what, a knack will always remain the same for a particular cursed human!
That said, here is the full compilation of canon borrower knacks that we have for the characters within the stories. Any that say unannounced has a knack, but we haven’t revealed it at this time! Any that say unknown, we’re still working on!
This list is subject to change as the stories evolve, and more characters/knacks may be added at any time.
Main Characters
Sam Winchester–
Enhanced Awareness: This can either enhance an already understood sense to supernatural levels, or give the borrower a ‘sixth sense,’ much like how Sam can feel if he’s being watched. His ability does not work on other borrowers, the angelic Grace around their souls keeping the perception from working on them.
Dean Winchester–
Enhanced Tracking: Trackers, like Dean, are able to use their ability to track down their target with undeniable accuracy. There are limits, as Dean can only track down objects he needs. He is unable to apply this to people, and if he can’t conjure up that sense of need, nothing will happen. This is not limited by distance, though if he’s far from an object, he only gets a sense of what direction it’s in.
John Winchester–
Perception Filter: The ability to be unnoticed and/or ignored in presence and actions. John’s ability is unique, so far as he’s discovered. He is unable to apply this ability to himself, but has found that if he concentrates, he is able to hide his family from notice, even if a human opens up the walls and looks right at them. This allows him to leave without worrying that they will be found, though of course, stuff doesn’t always go to plan.
Mary Winchester–
Terrakinesis: The ability to control the earth. While John’s ability tends towards more protective with his family, Mary is ready to go on the attack. She can’t affect entire buildings like the angels, but she can rock the ground just enough to knock a human off balance, buying time for her to escape. This works when there’s concrete, rock, stone, ect underneath the ground. She is unable to affect wood paneling at all and is cautious if she needs to go over a wood floor. With this ability, she was able to slowly carve out a safe home for her family underneath the ground. Adding in John’s ability to keep the family undetected, it seemed a good place to raise their two boys. Mary keeps several pebbles on her that she can flick at an attacker in case she needs a quick escape. Dean certainly got his accuracy from his mother.
Bobby Singer–
Psychometry: Bobby’s knack allows him to learn from books and artifacts at a glance or a touch. He’s unable to read people, but if he gets an item of theirs, he can know what it was used for, how it will be put to use in the close future. This includes seeing that a knife will be used for a murder, before the murder happens.
Jacob Andris–
Supernatural Strength: Some, like Jacob, grow stronger than even other borrowers. This comes from their innate ability to turn their knack on their own bodies by instinct. While Sam and Dean receive the standard borrower strength boost while cursed, allowing them to lift around 12x their body weight, Jacob is able to lift, at only 18, a colossal 42x his natural body weight. If he was human-sized, he could bench a car without breaking a sweat.
Oscar–
Pyrokinesis: The ability to manipulate fire in limited forms. Oscar would not easily discover this knack, as a fire in the motel room walls might cause the entire place to go up in a blaze.
Walt Watch–
Telekinesis: The ability to manipulate objects outside of their direct reach. This can often cause a borrower to be mistaken for a ghost, moving objects in a house without touching them for a distraction. Walt Watch has taken the ability further, freezing two humans in place and later directing his power at himself to force his razor blade through Celeste’s neck despite her angelic invulnerability. This came close to burning out his knack.
Mallory Watch–
unknown
John Watson–
unannounced
Sherlock Holmes–
unannounced
Stan Baker–
unannounced
Moira Wainscot–
unannounced
Side Characters
Chase Lisong–
Emotional manipulation: The ability to influence the emotions around him, with no need for physical contact. A way for Chase to keep the peace among whichever group he’s in, or, if he can manage to get close enough, make a human tired or inattentive enough to escape notice.
Bobby Loran–
Power borrowing: Bobby is able to borrower the knack of other borrowers for a limited amount of time. One at a time, and since he’s not used to them he wouldn’t have as much finesse with them. He’d be quicker to burn them out than the actual “owner” of the knack.
Minnie Lisong–
Life detection: Very useful for finding out if a human is in a room, or seeing if there is a possibly dangerous rat or spider hiding in the walls.
Kara Bolt–
unannounced
Christian Bolt–
unknown
Mikael Foyer–
unknown
Mark Bend–
Supernatural Strength: Unlike Jacob, Mark’s ability only applies to his legs. His legs are supernaturally enhanced, able to leap high into the air compared to a regular borrower.
Sean–
Invisibility: Though the borrower does not make themselves actually invisible in most cases, the invisibility knack allows them to camouflage and blend in to their surroundings. In Sean’s case, he can cause a cloud of distortion that hides himself and any of his friends that stand close enough.
 Bardolph–
unknown
Xander–
unknown
Garen–
unknown
Harmony–
unannounced
Adriana of the Woods–
unannounced
Stan Baker’s brothers–
unannounced for all

If you don't mind answering this ask Neon, where are Chase's and Minnie's grandparents? :0 - Cadmi Hater
I do not mind!
Chase and Minnie's grandparents on both sides still live in China (probably in or around Jiuquan). The family had to make a fairly quick decision to move when they learned both of their kids had significant lung problems, and they wanted to find the right climate to help them. That's how they ended up in Iowa, but the grandparents couldn't also make the move at the time. I imagine Chase's parents are probably working on arranging a move for the grandparents though, so they can better care for them. They visit as often as they can.

How do you write Chase and Minnie's full names in Chinese?
I haven't got the hanzi or anything like that for their names, I probably should resolve that ...
Their family name is Lisong.
Chase’s given name is Qi shi or Qi-shi (which his parents decided to anglicize to Chase). So he's Lisong Qi-shi.
Minnie's given name is Mingxia. It was a little easier to get Minnie from that. She's Lisong Mingxia.
I have to acknowledge: anglicizing names is a tricky topic, and not everybody decides to do so when they move to the US/UK/etc. The reason I chose this option for these characters is their backstory: the family made a somewhat hasty decision to move to the US when the kids were under 10 years old, for health reasons. Their parents chose to give them nicknames that might help them fit in in a new school/environment where they were already playing catch up to learn English.

I can't believe I forgot to ask this omg.
Does Bobby have any siblings or he just an only child like Jacob?? lol
Also, what does Chase's family usually do in the day, does Chase also bother Minnie a bunch, like at all?? >:^)
Bobby is an only child, yep. He's used to getting all the attention.
I haven't really given the Lisong parents specific jobs, but they're very busy most days. The kids are kind of trusted to take care of themselves a lot. Chase bothers Minnie like any healthy brother/sister relationship. He has to exasperate her, it's part of his job as the elder brother.

GT July 2022
I made it through the whole challenge! I wasn't sure if I would, when I first set out to do it! I'm so glad I gave it a shot and stuck to it. Some new stories came about from this little challenge, and I'll have to plan some more updates for those as soon as I can.
Many thanks to @gianttol for organizing the prompts.
1 - Fluffy - Tiny Pixie Hands - Elias Dawn and Eral the Arbor Pixie brave the colder climates on one of their adventures.
2 - Different Era - Error 50 - Featuring Elias Dawn sometime in the far future when their world has changed by quite a lot. In this they meet Fifty, a tiny assistant bot that'll become their buddy.
3 - Panic - Old Fears - In which Bowman Leafwing has a nightmare remembering old enemies, but a friend is nearby to help snap him out of it.
4 - Sizeshifting - Big News - Experimental dialogue-only story detailing a young man suddenly finding himself a little more giant than before while he's at the mall.
5 - Flower - Wildflower Dust - A visit to the Chase in Lilliput AU and its resident giant, waking up to a field of wildflowers in bloom.

11 - Mini Giant - Hellhounds - A new story in which an enigmatic would-be guardian angel rescues a man from a hellhound.
12 - Borrower - Fried Potatoes - We return for more of the borrower Lisong siblings. Takes place not long after the first story (prompt 8).

Botan and Vitrail got along well unlike with Lisong. Botan was not as quick to anger as her and he respected that he and his family were mostly sprung on the poor woman who was kind even as her husband and children died fighting people who held similar backgrounds as them. So despite having already proposed, Botan asked Vitrail for Sonnet’s hand in marriage. He worried that that might be a line too far to cross while she was being kind to them especially after such a hate filled event that took Lisong from them. Yet she was thrilled to have him as a son-in-law, his fears about her mindset were unfounded.

Chase In Lilliput - Taxi!
I had to return to this AU. I can never stay away for too long, Jacob as a giant is just too much fun! So what does a resident giant do when everyone you know is busy? Make new friends, if you can! Jacob's so kind to these little folk. It's no wonder most of them warm up to him so fast.
Approx. Reading time: ~5 minutes

The people of Lilliput bustled about in such a hurry. Errands and work and trading drew many of them out of their homes, especially on a clear day like this one. Everyone had things to do and places to be while the sun still shone.
Unfortunately for Jacob, that included the family of Lilliputians that had taken him in. The Lisongs had their work in one of the bustling markets in the middle of town where Jacob couldn’t go. Chase and Minnie, their kids and his first friends since he washed up on the shore, had classes to attend. Jacob didn’t yet know where they went on such days.
Being the resident giant, he couldn’t exactly wander into town whenever he liked.
He’d gotten permission from all but a few farmers that lived near the city to wander their fields. Most simply asked that he try not to spook the livestock--easier said than done when most of the people didn’t even measure up to a finger. Horses, cows, and especially chickens steered clear of him. Goats with plenty to prove sometimes charged his boots, but even they backed down eventually.
Some animals had gotten used to him. He slept near the Lisong’s pastures, so many of their cattle at least tolerated him. Their sheep avoided him, but little lambs raised carefully by Minnie had grown up with him around and didn’t mind his presence at all.
Sometimes, it seemed like Chase antagonized the animals way more than Jacob ever did.
Jacob found himself near an edge of town he didn’t often visit. There were walls blocking in the city proper, but a handful of buildings clustered at the wall, built sometime later. They had their own little plaza with a fountain out there.
Jacob inched closer to peer over the buildings and see the fountain. He made sure his steps didn’t wander into anyone’s yard by mistake. He’d nearly broken the Lisongs’ fence on his first day in Lilliput, and he hoped to avoid more scolding.
At least a scolding Lilliputian was better than a scared one. Jacob was self conscious enough without someone pointing and screaming in terror of him.
He hadn’t paused to watch the fountain for more than a minute when someone all but burst out of one of the tiny homes surrounding it. They stopped dead at the sight of him looming overhead and nearly dropped the crate in their arms.
Shit. “Ah, sorry,” Jacob muttered, not at all missing how the miniscule person flinched. “Just passing through.”
He glanced behind so he could shuffle back from the little cluster of buildings, but a tiny voice piped up. “Wait a second!”
Jacob eyed the little guy again, finding him hobbling closer with that crate. He squatted down as the Lilliputian came closer; he never liked standing over people. “Uh. What’s up?”
“You can help me out!” the tiny man declared.
Jacob’s face brightened with relief and amusement both. “I can do my best,” he assured. “What do you need?”
The Lilliputian paused at the edge of Jacob’s looming shadow. His tiny face seemed flushed, though as with any Lilliputian Jacob had trouble seeing for sure. He could see how shaky the man’s little grin was. “Well, mister giant, I have several boxes like this one that I’d like to get to the harbor,” he explained, lifting the box in his arms for emphasis. “I was going to call for a carriage or something to help haul it, but”
Jacob grinned. He couldn’t help it. “I see,” he said, eyeing up the crate. “I can probably do that.”
“Great! I only have six boxes! Should be easy for ya, right?”
“Oh, it might be a little heavy,” Jacob teased. If it was Chase, he might nudge the little guy in jest. As it was, he didn’t push his luck. “I’ll be fine.”
The Lilliputian looked relieved. “Thanks! I’ll bring everything out!”
And that left Jacob crouched awkwardly near the cluster of houses while the tiny man set down his box and dashed off. He waited patiently and tried not to feel too self conscious about it. Hopefully no one was delaying their own errands to avoid him.
By the time the small man had his boxes all lying out in the yard, Jacob had a hand braced carefully on one of the roads leading away from the houses. “All set?” he asked.
The Lilliputian nodded excitedly. “Yes, thank you!”
Jacob lowered his other hand palm up and rested it next to all the boxes. “Set ‘em up for me?”
The tiny man hesitated, seeing the scale of Jacob’s hand from up close. Then, he hoisted up his boxes, one by one, carefully placing them on Jacob’s waiting palm. When he had the last box on Jacob’s hand, he stepped back and looked up expectantly. The hand remained where it was.
Jacob only had a sympathetic smile for the tiny man. “Ah. I need you to tell me where in the harbor I should take these,” he admitted. He should have made sure the little guy knew that ahead of time. “And if I can’t get to the spot you’re after, you might still need to unload these yourself …”
“Of course it’s fine!” the little guy blurted, his voice jumping an octave. “I’ll show you! Just … just a second!”
Jacob said no more and waited for the little guy to work up the courage. It took several long, awkward seconds, and he began to wonder if he should help the man find a different way to get his boxes to the harbor. Finally, right before Jacob developed a crick in his neck, the man strode up to his hand and stepped on.
He tripped immediately, but the effort was made and Jacob pretended not to notice it at all. He watched the horizon absently until the tentative steps across his palm ended. The man sat next to one of his boxes with one arm braced over it to keep it (and himself) steady. When Jacob looked down again, he waved. “I’m-I’m ready to go! It’s nothing, right, you carry people around all the time!”
Jacob tried and failed not to smile. “Yep, I sure do,” he agreed. If the guy was going to do the job of reassuring himself instead of Jacob having to do it, he wasn’t about to correct anything.
Technically, there were only a few people so far who let him carry them around at all.
“Just hang on and point me in the right direction, sir,” Jacob announced with a friendlier grin. After this, he wondered how long it might be before he was Lilliput’s official taxi service.

🖊+ Chase
( Want me to gush about my OCs? )
Chase Lisong! A good choice!
Chase’s actual name is Qi Shi, which according to my research means “to enlighten”. I guess if he keeps chattering away like he’s prone to do, he’s bound to teach something, right? He and his sister Minnie (Minxia, or ”Bright halo”), were given anglicized names by their parents when they moved to the US from Jiuquan. Since they were young kiddos who had to move rather suddenly, their parents wanted to give them some kind of edge, socially.
Chase is bisexual (happy pride month!). He has an ex-girlfriend and an ex-boyfriend, both relatively short relationships that ended on friendly terms. He helped set Jacob Andris up on the one and only date Jacob went on.
Chase’s health is actually quite fragile - he’s not athletic due to his asthma, and cold season tends to lay him low once a year. Despite that, the whole reason his family moved to Iowa was for cleaner air and a less stressful environment, so he’s doing better than he might be elsewhere.
I really really love how much Chase has grown into his own character since I first invented him. He’s technically a side character in the story he originated in, but I could probably write a whole story about him and his misadventures (Chase in Lilliput, anyone?).

( OC Ask Game )
1. The most recent OC I’ve made
I’m terribly forgetful on these things, so there was probably someone more recent, but I’m going to say Seth from my Nanowrimo project last year, Goldfish! Seth is an anxious guy who was just trying to enjoy a family vacation. Falling into the ocean was not his idea of fun at all.
2. An early OC I remember making
I’m trying to throw myself waaaay back to the early days of OCs. Technically the first OC I ever made was probably Hickory the saber tooth tiger that I invented and drew comics of when I was less than ten. I can’t think of anyone earlier than that.
I also spent a lot of time inventing superhero teams, the leader of which was always a girl who looked a lot like kirby and had unstoppable punches and kicks.
4. An OC whose story I’ve got all planned (or even written)
There’s a few OCs who I have a general plan for right until the ending, but I fluctuate so much that there’s a strong chance things will change for them by the time I get around to writing. Seth, mentioned above, has his whole story practically written, so he counts. Elias Dawn comes to mind, as I have the final scenes of his story mapped out in my head already. Teven Silver’s story arc is all planned in my head (that’s a wraith sprite OC and eventual acquaintance of Bowman Leafwing, by the way).
7. An OC I love ... reluctantly
I can’t actually name this OC, as it would kind of give things away about their story that isn’t even fully written yet. But they’re a problem child from start to finish, arrogant and dismissive and just plain mean. As much as I should disapprove, I love them a lot.
21. The OC most likely to end up in a wacky [freeze frame][record scratch] “you’re probably wondering how I got here” scenario
I mean, this is peak Elias Dawn, for one thing. I could also see Chase Lisong getting into something as absurd.

Chase In Lilliput - Birthday Party
Happy Birthday, Jacob Andris!
August 27th is the specific day, but since I didn't want to deal with whether or not the Lilliputian calendar is the same, I handwaved it a bit here. My boy is getting older; I'm really proud of how far the character has come since I first created him. He's seen some crazy adventures in his original story as well as the many AUs I've tossed him into. I decided to use this cute AU to give him a nice birthday, since a lot of the other stories can get kinda sad for him at times. This one is all cutes.

Chase in Lilliput Tag for Desktop
Jacob relaxed against a hillside outside a miniature city. No matter how long it had been since he’d washed up on the shores of Lilliput, no matter how many times people insisted he was the giant there, he couldn’t help but think of it that way. To him, Lilliput and its denizens were tiny, all barely the size of a finger compared to him. He couldn’t even fit a hand in the doors of their homes (not that he’d tried that more than once).
He’d already been scolded once or twice by the people in charge. He wasn’t supposed to wander into the city itself without a chaperone, and even then only in less crowded areas. Since they were active all the time, those times were very rare.
In the back of his mind, Jacob was aware that he could go into town whenever he wanted. He could use their many roads as a footpath to any destination within the city. They couldn’t stop him from doing so.
He didn’t want to make them see him that way.
He’d been accepted in Lilliput. Considering how easily they could have sent him away, or worse, attacked him, he wanted to stay on their good side. As much as he could, anyway.
So, while a festival celebrating the late summer harvests went on in the main avenue of the city, Jacob waited outside. From a hillside that belonged to one of the farmers that didn’t mind him wandering on their land, he had a good view of things. Banners of all colors were hung from the eaves of many buildings, and long flags billowed in a gentle breeze. The cries of street vendors clamored for attention, and people laughed and talked at the various games and booths that absolutely clogged the streets.
He smiled faintly as someone set off a firework early. A few small sparks of colored flame shot high into the sky, clearing many roofs, but not shining as brightly as they would come sundown. Shortly after, someone could be heard on a megaphone reminding the crowds that the show wasn’t starting yet.
The sounds of people enjoying the festival mixed in with the inviting smells of the food offered at various booths. Jacob wondered idly if any of the livestock he’d helped look after or crops he’d helped carry had gone into those street food offerings; his odd jobs so far had taken him all over the outskirts of town.
He’d offered to help set up for the festival. Chase, his first friend in Lilliput and possibly the single reason everyone had accepted him, had tried to convince the authorities to let him in on it.
In the end, it was decided that it’d be safest to let the normal crews set everything up. Walking among the city’s buildings was one thing, but putting up booths and a stage would risk him knocking into something.
He’d already bumped into a few things once or twice since his arrival. Surprisingly, though they were normally timid and hid from him at the first sign of his shadow, the Lilliputians had no qualms at all about scolding Jacob for such things. He always made sure to be contrite for them; if they were going to be brave enough to yell at him, they’d earned his respect.
After watching the preparations for days leading up to the event, he was glad to finally see what the fuss was all about. Chase and his family, the Lisongs, had been preparing their livestock for weeks even before Jacob arrived. They were somewhere among the food booths, selling cheese and milk fresh off the farm. Chase’s sister, Minnie, had taken a few of the lambs to a petting zoo. They were all keeping busy.
It left Jacob to figure out for himself where he might settle down for the night. There would be a fireworks show later, and more music and dancing he might be able to see if he stood at the right angle.
He liked his hillside. Some of the cows hadn’t even lumbered away from him, instead settling in the shade he created with his giant shadow. A lot of the skittish animals were getting used to him the more he was around.
Closer to evening, many of the cows made lazy efforts to get up and wander towards their barn. Jacob was nudging at one of the stragglers when he noticed movement further down the hill. He turned the cow towards the others in hope she’d follow, and then looked down to see who approached.
A grin broke over his face and he sat up. Chase, a tiny figure especially among the tall grass, waved up at him with one hand while the other secured the pack on his back. “Hey!” he yelled, having no problem projecting his voice despite his size.
It was one of the nice constants of life in Lilliput. He’d never miss his buddy talking.
“What’re you doing away from the booth?” Jacob greeted. As he spoke, he lowered a hand to the ground. Chase hurried the last few steps to scramble up onto it, tossing his backpack onto Jacob’s palm. “I recall you getting the third degree for even suggesting you’d skip it this year.”
Chase snickered as he settled himself down on the hand. Then, patting the nearby thumb, he let Jacob know he was ready. “Yeah, it took some convincing. Mom said I’d be in for extra chores for this one, but dude. I’m not gonna make you sit out of the festival all on your own!”
Jacob lifted Chase with well-practiced care, and his smile softened. “Aww, gee, Chase. You really do care,” he teased, nudging at the little guy’s shoulder. “I don’t mind watching everything from out here.”
Chase shoved his finger away, with just-as-practiced exasperation. “Course I care, giant,” he said. “‘Specially since you mentioned you got a birthday sometime in late summer. I remember shit!”
Jacob raised his eyebrows, but didn’t have a chance to ask any more as Chase determinedly began to rummage through his loaded pack. Despite the teasing, he was curious, and lifted his hand closer to his face to watch as Chase produced several cloth wrapped bundles from the bag, setting them out on Jacob’s palm like he was on a picnic.
“... Chase, what’s all this stuff?” Jacob asked, curling his thumb down in preparation to nudge at one of the bundles.
Chase slapped at the thumb that outsized him to keep it away. “Hey, wait a second!” he griped. “Don’t squash stuff before I get a chance to even unwrap it!”
That said, he pushed his pack aside once it was emptied, and set to unwrapping the cloth. One bundle revealed a large, round loaf of bread with a pattern crosshatched into the top. Another showed a soft roll of white goat cheese. There was also a block of what looked like cheddar, and a tub of a faintly-pink stuff that must be cream cheese.
In other words, some of the premium offerings from the Lisong’s food stand, as well as the bread to pair with it.
“Dude, you didn’t steal this, did you?” Jacob asked, squinting at the tiny food offerings. It would be enough for a filling brunch for five or six lilliputians.
Chase gave him a flat look. “You have no appreciation for the things I do,” he said, before breaking into his mischievous grin again. “It’s not stealing if it’s from my own stuff. And I paid for the bread. I didn’t want to risk carrying a cake up here so you get bread and cream cheese. Happy birthday, Jacob. Hope you like it.”
Jacob scanned the offerings again, his grin brightening. Then, he nudged at Chase’s shoulder. “It’s great, Chase. Thanks for bringing that out for me.”
The words barely left his mouth before there was a loud series of bangs from somewhere in town, and they both turned to look. Firecrackers exploded in an open space in the street, throwing smoke into the evening air. Lilliputian kids laughed, then ran as the adults took chase after them for setting off more fireworks before the show. Once again, someone was on the megaphone to stem any confusion about the schedule for the evening.
Chase snickered and turned back to the food. As he started to spread huge amounts of cream cheese onto the bread, he finally replied. “It’s no trouble, man. Besides. The show’s gotta be way more fun from up here anyway.”

I really want a bagel now.

( 10 Facts about my Characters )
HERE WE GO. Some of these people might already know, others might be new? Either way. Time to do the thing.
Jacob Nicholas Andris is named after his father Nicholas and a grandfather on his mother’s side.
His birthday is August 27th (coming up pretty soon actually)
He is/was on his high school’s boxing team. In his canon story, he was unable to be on the team for his senior year of high school due to the events of Bowman of Wellwood.
He broke his arm once in middle school.
He’s decently proficient in Greek, as he learned it growing up from both his parents and especially in talking to his various grandparents, who insisted on him learning.
His best friend is Qi Shi “Chase” Lisong, whom he met shortly after Chase’s family moved to the US from Jiuquan in China.
For a short period of time, Chase’s younger sister Minnie had a crush on Jacob, a fact that Chase gives them both endless shit about.
Jacob is asexual and aromantic! He went on one (1) date and discovered that it’s all more than he cares to deal with.
Jacob learned his love of camping and the outdoors from his dad, who used to take him on small trips whenever he could.
In his spare time, he reads a lot. Jacob knows he tends to look more like the big dumb jock than anything else, but he keeps himself fairly well-read.

These three have been friends for quite a while by the time Bowman of Wellwood takes place. Even still, the events of the story tested their friendship at points, to be sure!
Chase and Jacob met each other first. When they were about 9, Jacob had barely put a year between himself and the death of his father. He became a much quieter kid around then, keeping to himself a lot more. This enabled him to notice another kid doing the same thing, though for very different reasons.
Qi Shi Lisong, nicknamed “Chase” by his dad to give him a more Americanized name, didn’t speak a lot of English when he and his family first moved to Jacob’s hometown of Carlisle, Iowa. Things had been rushed to get them moved, so he and his little sister didn’t have a lot of time to learn much before the move. He was incredibly shy and also dealing with his recent asthma diagnosis.
Jacob approached this shy kid and the rest, as they say, is history. Jacob helped Chase learn English faster (a side effect of this being that they sometimes talk similarly) and they played together at each other’s houses. They’re very close, and a part of that is probably because they took comfort in the friendship that came about right when they needed it the most.
A few years later, Bobby Loran moved to Carlisle from Texas, a definite contrast to the other two more laid back kids. The three of them ended up hanging out more and more often as a coincidence at first, and eventually he was in the fold as well. The three are known among their classmates as inseparable most of the time, a matched set.
Bobby thinks he’s the leader of their group. Chase doesn’t care. Jacob shrugs and lets him think that. They give each other endless shit regardless, and they really are close.
