Though I find Overhaul to be the least interesting villain personally, I LOVE the Shie Hassaikai arc! The eight precepts, Fatgum and Red riot vs Rappa, literally every scene with Lemillion and Eri and Amajiki's fights were amazing!

Okay sort of long post incoming but I need to rant about something stupid. idk how popular this opinion is but I'm just gonna say it. The off-Broadway Hadestown soundtrack is leaps and bounds better than the Broadway. It is so much better and the Epics are the worst causality out of the whole transition. And obviously people can like what they like but I have Very Strong opinions about this and I've been letting it fester for too long.

Epic III is actually the one that made me want to write my thoughts out because the changes to this song make the English major in me sad, but it would take way too long to explain and analyze all of my grievances so for the sake of keeping this relatively short I'll only do the opening lines of Epic II and I think you'll see my point.

On the off-Broadway soundtrack, Epic II starts with "king of diamonds, king of spades/Hades is king of a kingdom of dirt" which right off the bat sets up so much about this character for the audience. The diamonds clue you into the fact that he has a connection with wealth and money, and is a nice nod to the fact that Hades is, among other things, the God of Wealth. The spades clue you into the fact that he has a connection with labor, as well as the symbolism of a spade digging up the ground, as when you're burying a body or planting a tree (hint hint). But also diamonds and spades are suits in cards. Hades is a gamble. The kingdom of dirt part, then, is another nod to his status as King of the Underworld, but it also shows us that Orpheus doesn't see the value in what hades has built and also shows us that it's tainted. It's dirty, unclean, worth absolutely nothing, and a nice contrast to the diamonds.

The Broadway version begins with "king of silver, king of gold/ and everything glittering under the ground" which tells us that hades likes money and has a connection to wealth. This version takes a much longer time to draw the underworld connections, loses the spade/earth connection that in turn represents his relationship with Persephone and the factory as a whole, and loses the gambling thing altogether. Not to mention, it just isn't as poetic. I don't know how to explain it but if you know poetry, specifically ancient Greek poetry, you get it. It just doesn't feel right coming out of your mouth.

And this is a problem!!! Orpheus is supposed to be a poet and all of the poetry is removed from the Epics to make sure the audience understands what's happening which like, yes make sure you're audience knows what's going on but don't sacrifice such an important part of who your character is!! Your audience isn't stupid. They'll get it. And if they don't...why are you catering to those people?
