YES okay. okay let me rant for a minute. let me preface this by saying i am NOT a kpop shipper at ALL. this is going to be long so i’ll put it under a’ ‘read more’ because i’ve been holding it in for TWO FUCKING YEARS BABY!

being mlm in boygroup kpop fandom is literally so exhausting. 99% of the people who ship real life human men from boygroups are fetishists and i will tell u why

obviously we all know of a ship in a fandom where the characters' personalities are twisted to fit the heteronormative view of "top" and "bottom" --one character is hypermasculine (top) and the other one is feminine (bottom). there are typical traits associated with both. the ‘top’ is scary or mean or angry or serious while the ‘bottom’ is emotional or bubbly or shy. while this is egregious, at least its fictional characters. their personalities can be simplified or exaggerated and it doesnt cause any real life harm.

im going to define what i think of as a fetishist: a non-mlm person who overly sexualizes gay men/men they think are gay/gay ships, and forces them into heteronormative roles for their own pleasure. its not even limited to cishet women. plenty of non-mlm lgbt people do this too and its like disheartening. so anyways

enter the kpop fandom

i may be incredibly biased here because one of the most affected members [of bts] is my favorite kpop boy, but oh god is the ‘personality change/simplification’ thing AWFUL here. i do not go out of my way to find fanart or see fanfic threads, but being in the bts fandom, u will inevitably see it and i REALLY wish i didnt

so anyways. my favorite boy ever is hoseok. he is sweet and hardworking and very passionate about dance and he can be serious when needed, but ultimately he tries to be very lighthearted and will consistently laugh or make jokes or do something funny when the other members feel uncomfortable or awkward (mostly during english-speaking interviews). he kisses the members on the cheek a lot/hugs them a lot/cuddles them a lot [this is important for later okay]

of course, theres a lot more to him because he is a multi-faceted real life human being, and i don’t know him personally, but that’s a general idea of what he’s like, okay?

SHIPPERS will have you think differently. some video got popular on youtube ""proving"" that hoseok is a sadist (which is just clips of him jokingly playfighting with the younger members), and the video depicts him as secretly mean and serious, and shippers will use that to say "hoseok is a total top!" and then most fanart or imagines or fanfic threads you see are top!hoseok, using this imagined 'hoseok is a sadistic dom' narrative to fuel their fiction, because SOMEONE has to be the top, so they twist him into this hypermasculine mean person (and probably feminize the 'bottom' of their ship but more on that later)

EXCEPT it is not just fiction. this narrative bleeds into REAL LIFE. you have new armys who dont know anything about the shipping scene, and yet somehow the narrative of hoseok being a secretly mean, sadistic person has already made its way into them. in real life, hoseok likes rainbows and wearing nail stickers and putting glitter in his hair. yet people in the fandom will say shit like "hoseok hates femininity" "hoseok would never wear [thing] because he's a dom"

sometimes on twitter you have ppl like me who say uh actually you guys are really weird and this is fetishy and in real life hoseok is very nice and not sadistic at all, you will UNDOUBTEDLY get comments like "omg hoseok isnt cute/nice when will yall learn he’s secretly like [x] and [x]". you could post a video of hoseok with a puppy titled "wow cute" and u will get like 2 clowns in ur comments going 'hoseok isnt CUTE hes a sadist’ . i wish i was joking but i am not. they will do this for EVERY action hoseok does. he cannot blink without people twisting it into a sexual thing

[also, side note: its funny that, since hoseok is one of the least popular members and therefore one of the least shipped members, he is often the odd man out among pairings, and is assigned 'the straight one' by default, and 9 times out of 10 people who assign him 'the straight one' do all this 'dom daddy hoseok' shit.

so anyways arguably the most popular ship with hoseok is with yoongi, sope. this absolutely happens to other ships probably but im just using them as an example because i see it the most, being a hobi stan

yoongi is very calm and thoughtful and kind and sometimes appears to be cold/having a bad attitude but its just because of the way he speaks, which is very bluntly. again hes a multi faceted real human and i do not know him personally but thats generally what hes like.

god the fandom. treats him SO BAD. so horribly. he's shorter than hoseok. he's shorter than hoseok and people will exaggerate that literal 1 inch height difference so bad and people will turn his whole personality into shy and blushy and In Love With Hoseok, so in love with hoseok that ‘he gets sad’ when hoseok doesn’t kiss him/hug him/or whatever and IT BLEEDS INTO REAL LIFE.

ANY time hoseok or yoongi do ANYTHING together at ALL, people will ALWAYS push the narrative that hoseok, being the mean sadist he is, is 'hurting' yoongi for not returning his undying love or whatever. hoseok did a vlive where he made bracelets for all the members and he considered putting a cat charm on yoongi's but ultimately decided not to because he was having difficulty and oh my GOD sope stans twisted it into 'hoseok HATES yoongi, yoongi would have been so happy, he would have worn that all the time, hoseok isnt affectionate he hates being close with other people after all :(' which is LITERALLY not true because hoseok gives all his homies good night kisses but okay! whatever fits your narrative!

PEOPLE ACTUALLY HATE HOSEOK BECAUSE OF THIS. BECAUSE OF A SHIP. BECAUSE OF THE MANUFACTURED NARRATIVE PUSHED ONTO HIM BY FETISHISTS SO HE COULD FIT INTO THEIR HETERONORMATIVE ‘TOP’ ROLE. not to be all wahh wahh hoseok is one of the least popular members BUT THIS IS LITERALLY A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.

everyone """headcanons""" hoseok to be a top so they will make him a MEAN HYPERMASCULINE person. everyone """headcanons""" yoongi as a bottom so they will make him a SOFT UWU HYPERFEMININE person. shippers are literally pigeonholing the two of them into fujoshi-esque roles for jack-off material.

anyways this all boils down to: gay fetishists will do anything, ANYTHING, to twist characters or real life fucking people to fit their heteronormative view of top and bottom. top=mean and masculine, bottom=soft and feminine. hoseok is a real life human being. yoongi is a real life human being. they both have real life human personalities, and yet shippers twist their personalities into the opposite to fit their narrative, to the point where nonshippers will genuinely view the two of them as something theyre not.

you have tons of armys that theorize that hoseok's happiness is just a mask he puts on to hide a cruel nature. on twitter. on youtube. in fanart and fanfiction. you have tons of armys that truly believe that, despite literally all the evidence, believe he hates being cute, he hates being happy, he hates the members, and hes secretly a dom daddy fuckboy who wants to bend yoongi over a table. hes a real life human being and fetishists doing their fetish thing has real life consequences.

the same is true for bottom!hoseok stans: they overexaggerate his more cutesy personality traits and he does have a 'feminine' figure i.e. he has a rly small waist but they will overexaggerate that as well and give him huge hips and its disgusting but dom!hoseok is far more frequent with far more devastating consequences so i used that as an example but they’re both bad.

people who """"headcanon"""" [like actually headcanon/firmly believe and not just joking or lighthearted] that members are gay will force these types of roles onto the members. if someone genuinely believes that like, yoongi is gay/bi/whatever, and then try to force this subby soft uwu persona onto him, they have no respect for gay people. they dont. gay people are simply objects for their fantasies. their view of gay people is so one-dimensional and so driven by fetishists’ ideas that its actually disheartening.

and god bitches will deadass be homophobic yet still ship real ass human idols. not just for bts specifically but all boygroup fandoms. sometimes when you search up an idol's name, [idol] gay will be trending--whether it be because of people saying "im gay for him" or whatever, and a LOT of cishet people will try 'clearing' the searches because being gay is bad or something. people normally ‘clear’ the searches if something like [idol fat] or [idol ugly] are trending, which im telling you so you know the context that people only clear the searches when bad things are happening.

and hoseok and yoongi arent the only ones affected ! we could get into why namjoon and jin (another popular ship) are often assigned 'dad' and 'mom' respectively, or the fact that gay fetishists not only twist members' personalities to fit their ship narrative, but will also force tropes onto them i.e. taehyung/jungkook shippers who will literally demonize jimin and call him a slut or say that he's trying to 'get in the way of' of taekook or 'steal' taehyung/jungkook but thats a whole DIFFERENT rant baby! racism/asian fetishism is also definitely a present factor in all of this but this focus was primarily on gay fetishism and heteronormativity.

it baffles me that ppl on here still send me messages about the pokemon fandom, and more specifically the g/s fandom, like i care or have anything to contribute

so lemme just. sum it up one last time and then the anons are getting blocked, along with a couple of other semi-regular questions i'm not gonna answer

i dont write fics atm bcuz i'm busy and uninspired

part of why i'm uninspired is absolutely ppl messaging me about Drama

mostly i'm uninspired bcuz other stuff i've been writing is 1000x more interesting than anything i was writing for pkmn fandom

i left that one discord server bcuz i didnt like it

there's nothing deeper to me not liking it. i thought the place had bad vibes every time i visited, so i left

i cannot tell you anything about the ppl on the server or who runs it bcuz i literally cant remember them and to my memory, never rly knew them / was never friends with them

if you think it has bad vibes too, cool, i don't care, it's got nothing to do with me how you feel about a place that also has nothing to do with me

if i had to say any one thing that annoys me about g/s fans, it's the tendency to whine incessantly about lack of content while never contributing content or supporting what there is. THAT'S why i dont check tags any more, and yes, it's a contributing factor in my lack of interest in the ship any more. i find the hypocrisy annoying and the complaining about what's there unfair. the way ppl talk about that ship and the content for it makes me second-guess why i even like it, which is sad bcuz i've shipped it since 2000, but oh well!!! i dont rly miss it i just get frustrated when ppl remind me of all this

i'm also not invested in my fics being read or whatever bcuz to me fics are a low-pressure low-priority hobby and it's easier to keep it that way if there arent many ppl reading what i'm writing. it's nice when ppl do!! love it when ppl do and enjoy it and have nice things to say!!!! but i write fics just to have some fun and then post them if i think other ppl can have some fun with it too. no skin off my nose if they're not read, but also: i know other fic writers see it differently, and they are completely right and valid to feel that way!!! it's MUCH easier to write with validation & attention, if you are someone who thrives from validation & attention.

oh you all know I love oversharing my opinions on touhou ships... now that some time’s passed since the new game release euphoria I can safely say I’ve got a solid idea of what my favs are in wbawc

I’ve had a yachie/saki fever for like... 2 weeks it’s not even funny anymore. if my japanese TL’s a good sample to go by it could become a fairly popular ship - lots of ideas bouncing around and some of my mutuals being like ‘hahhh I wish the application deadline for winter comiket weren’t so early, I want to draw some 4xEX... but I had to submit something else...’

kinda surprised it’s become my favourite of the game, I’m not usually too big on rivals ships, but then I look at the other sides of their dynamic and like ok... stupid/cunning... blonde/dark hair... the whole ‘she thought she’d manipulated me with her power but I was only pretending haha’ thing in saki’s dialogue... also saki mentions yachie 5 WHOLE TIMES in one of marisa’s routes. ‘kicchou this’ ‘kicchou that’ I get it. you love saying your rival’s name I get it!!! it’s got potential for really dark and really silly/cute and everything in between, so I for sure am looking forward to more dragonhorse fan content in the upcoming months

also really fond of urumi/kutaka... another furry ship................. a classic case of pairing 2 early stage bosses when there’s only the demo to work with (especially considering eika is. literally a baby.) but the more I think about it, the cuter it is... retired monster with a passion for giant fish and big farmer vibes has a soft spot for dumb but diligent god with an office job in hell. kutaka would be SO oblivious to anyone flirting with her in any way whatsoever, I just find it funny to imagine someone like urumi with a crush on her... it’s like a romcom. they hang out as friends for the first time, and when urumi takes off her jacket to catch fish with her bare hands kutaka has gay panic. a perfect moron/morosexual ship. how romantic

I’ve mentioned my rarepair this time a few posts ago - okina/keiki is an idea I’m playing with and I’d say it’s enjoyable purely on the ‘concept’ side? ancient gods with a link to arts (sculpture/performance arts) and very historical roots... it’s appealing, and I know I’ll be the only one to make content for it, but it’d be interesting to explore themes like isolation and creation with them. so look forward to that eventually maybe? if uni doesn’t kill me before I get to it? gee okina how come zun lets you have so many girlfriends

the other big ship I’ve seen discussed on my TL is the obvious mayumi/keiki... it’s a fairly classic dynamic of master/devoted underling + 5/6 stage bosses! I think this one’s gonna have more ‘mixed’ opinions since their creator/creation relationship is also easy to interpret as... well, mom/daughter. not literally, but I can see where it comes from. I personally don’t see mayumi as a child/I don’t hc that she or keiki would view each other that way (unlike, say, hecatia and clownpiece), so I don’t have a problem with it as a potential ship. still thinking about how it works exactly, but at least not a happy mutual romantic thing - I’m honestly more interested in how far mayumi would go in her devotion to keiki and what she represents to keiki as her creation...

I guess what I’m trying to say is that as long as ppl keep in mind that everything’s a headcanon and that the mom/daughter and romantic interpretations dont like... end up in the same fanwork, I’m open to it and I’ll definitely keep it in a corner of my mind because both characters are extremely good. catch me editing this post and all potential future posts on them at the speed of light if it’s ever officially revealed their dynamic is like hecatia & piece’s though. I don’t joke with this stuff LOL

I’ve seen a few other ship ideas go around on twitter and I’m waiting for some time/more content to see how I feel about them, but for now that’s it! this game’s great and the characters’ relationships especially caught my eye this time, so I’m looking forward to what the fandom’s gonna create out of it. good stuff I’m sure

not really the song itself but more the title maybe a bit of both but 15 reading homestuck on the internet - atlas is the first that comes to mind (as i was writing this i remembered internet personas by the same artist and it fits SO well)

oh god! this is really cool question and i have ‘great’ story for that.

So 4 years ago I’ve been in tvd/klaroline fandom. Basically the only reason i started being more active on tumblr/twitter was klaroline back then and it was the worst because back then Joseph went to The Originals and everyone was saying it’s “the end of klaroline”. and then we were getting like one scene per season (sex scene in s5 or phone call or idn a scene where klaus heard caroline’s name) and it sucked so badly and i was in pain all the time so i decided to find a new show and new ship, that is canon and isn’t painful as klaroline is.

that’s how i met bellarke. huh, funny right?

(i HAVE TO mention that i suck at picking ships, i shipped stelena and i loved them SO much so u can imagine in how much pain i was in tvd fandom)

it was back during s1, it was sth like ep 6 airing back then. anyway, in the 100 tag everywhere was only bellarke, nothing else. and i was SO SURE they are canon/going to be canon because well. that’s what tumblr really told me?

the first gif - and the gif that made me watch the show - was gif of bellamy looking at clarke in 1x03 (the scene where she kills Atom - but back then for sure i had no idea what it was about). So really, who looks at girl like that, why it’s being recorded like that, if not for making them canon soon right?

so i’ve watched the eps and i was sold back then but i wasn’t really *into it*. I wasn’t making gifs back then, or reading metas/fanfictions, wasn’t making videos or anything for the fandom. after the ep i was just reblogging gifs that’s how it all started.

then i remember during s2 finn died and i was - a little i guess - mad because that meant that bellarke wont be together cause clarke had to heal after finn’s situation. and then like 4 eps later clarke was kissing L and i was like??? am i the only person who is confused why. n i went to tumblr n i saw already how fandom is divided and i was so mad because.. i thought that most of the ppl prefer CL back then n BC fandom moved or sth.

so obv i was mad because in tvd i was in Stelena fandom (n not in DE) which sucked because most of ppl were DE. n i felt like im reliving it.

but then 2x16 aired and i was happy n 100% sure in s3 we getting bellarke.

i wasnt here again during hiatus between s2-s3 (i heard that it was terrible, yes) and like month before s3 i watched SDCC panel n i was so confused??? cast hates bellarke??? why do they act like they dont exsist???

(really! i was back then casual viewer who only reblogged gifs after the episode, that was all n i was so confused back then what is happening with jr/cast. - i aslo saw the vid where jr left the room after bc q)

then i started watching s3 and i know 3x02 happened and i messaged my first bellarke-friend here nikola. I was so mad that “im in losing team” n all of it motivated me to do something more for fandom n being active. AS FUNNY AS IT SOUNDS. drama, fight, everything bad what happened in s3, bob getting hate - all of that. made me join the bellarke fandom. all of that motivated me to do sth for our fandom - so i learnt how to make gifs, how to make videos, appreciation days, started new blogs, joined new blogs, started update accounts, trends etc. the only reason i started being active on twitter was because i wanted to promote the show, to make sure we get next season n to protect bob. baaa, the only reason our fandom has now infobellarke is because of how tired n sad n depressed n pissed i was in s3. it motivated me, yes.

not saying that im thankful for s3, cause well. never. it was pain n fight every fucking day n i was SO TIRED. but thanks to this, ive met amazing people in our fandom and whats the most important - i “got to know” (at some point obv) bob which i will be forever thankful because he helped me a lot.
