This scenery!!
The environments in Paleo Pines are just as beautiful as the dinos! Have a look at these two- one is from Dapplewood, one from Veridian Valley.
Where are YOU excited to explore in Paleo Pines?
[ALT TEXT: IMAGE ONE: A rich brown dirt path in a forest, surrounded by huge green trees. The sky is obscured by foliage, and the trees go deep into a forest. On the ground, little flowers and drops of rain and puddles.
IMAGE TWO: A bright, light Valley scene with two Cherry Blossoms. Towards the background, a rope bridge leads up to a treehouse built in layers up to the sky. There are bushes and rolling hills, and the rope bridge passes over a river.]
The Paleo Pines demo is available to play now!

I've been revamping most of my world tiles with a focus on high-level player flow and readability.
Part of this has also lead me to color-code them to give players a better sense of where they are while in high-intensity combat and to orient themselves. Generally I've always found that the hardest part of building any game around high-intensity gameplay spaces is making sure the player still knows what's going on in the midst of everything, so I'm starting at a high level and getting more granular over time.

This is a 1v1 map I made in Halo Infinite’s forge mode called “Aligned”, set inside a mysterious Forerunner structure located deep inside a cave.
The map features a circular ring with two floors connected by teleporters surrounding colourful monoliths arranged in a peculiar pattern.
The pillars were designed with gameplay in mind first as I wanted to make a map where as players move around, different sightlines and cover would present themselves, creating a constantly evolving play-space despite its small size and simple layout.
Despite being happy with how it turned out visually and gameplay-wise, I ended up losing interest in completing it because I couldn’t come up with a good enough answer as to why two cyborg super-soldiers would be fighting inside of an ancient alien stonehenge…

More examples of tests using coloured materials to indicate different tiles. It's a little more jarring and less cohesive from an art standpoint but does seem to help with orientating yourself in combat.

When Gomez Addams obsesses over his tol goth wife who he calls a million pet names, everyone calls them couple goals. But when a gay lil angel does the same thing for her tol demon gf suddenly it's toxic? As if Charlie isn't such a huge enough sweetheart to deserve having someone fawn over her anyways.
