You paced around the room, shutting your eyes and seeing rainbow stars. You heaved, your breathing fast, uneven, and loud. The small cottage seemed…. cramped. Pushing on you. You ran to the kitchen. Suddenly everything felt too big. The feeling was like some sort of donked up Alice in Wonderland. You exhaled as you washed your hands shakily, throwing the towel. Your hands practically flew off their joints. You tensed and pushed your hands into the wall to gain some steadiness. You released a heavy sigh. Everything blurred as you jolted, pacing once more, like the arrow of a clock, twitching each second. You stared into nowhere. A state between overstimulation and sleep deprivation. A cusp, an unpleasant limbo. So exhausted you could pass out, yet too hyper to pass out. You couldn't be bothered to calm yourself, but couldn't rest either. It would take some kind of miracle for you to get anywhere. "Hey, you okay?" You whipped around, your hands shaking. Marshall. Your miracle. Alright, that was debatable, but to you, he was like a very large, very sassy emotional support cat. You stuttered some utter nonsense, gripping your clothes. He squinted and hummed, floating close to you. He saw your expression and wide, hollow eyes. He opened up his arms groggily. "Need a squoze?" He rumbled. You sighed and nodded. He morphed wings and scooped you up, holding you and shielding you from any sounds, smells, sights, lights, anything other than him and his feathery wings. He held you calmly, tight enough to be soothing, not tight enough to hurt you. Your breathing slowed and your eyelids grew heavy. You blinked with difficulty, your body relaxing into his. "Sleep?" He asked quietly. You hummed in approval. Your breathing and heart steadied, eyes shut. Finally, a semblance of relaxation washed over you. He flew up and it the sensation was practically imperceptible. Marshall set you down on the bed, pulling the blanket over you. "I love you," You mumbled from under the blanket as you cozied yourself into the mattress. Your muscles relaxed. You felt like jelly- in a good way. He floated, staring at you with red peepers. A funny word for entirely unfunny demon eyes. As your facial expression turned neutral and you seemed to still, Marshall kissed the top of your head gently, making sure he didn't nick you with his fangs. "I… love you, too," He said as quietly as he could, face a little stupid and a little awkward at the vulnerability. You smiled. "Softie…" Was the last thing you managed to mumble. Marshall would've blushed if he could. He rolled his eyes. He wrapped his arms around you and laid down. An uncommon occurrence prior to your arrival. You drifted into nonsensical dreams. The vampire's arms were cold, but still a comfort. A cold comfort, if you will.

Alright, after putting it off for a bit (due to real life being busy and also I got lazy), I’ve finally gone through and prepared the list of ships for the tournament! Congrats to the lucky 64, and apologies to anyone else whose ship didn’t make it in. I did appreciate every single entry that followed the rules, though, and all the infodumps made me smile!

Before the list, however, I wanna say that this post and the eventual bracket matchup post are going to double as places to post your propaganda via replies and reblogs (or even asks). Going forward, I will use whatever propaganda people add to the posts/send via asks with permission to add as propaganda on the eventual bracket matches. how the format works:

- the first rounds will consist of four characters up against each other, the two that have the most votes move on to the next round

MERROCK TASK #17 SPRING FORWARD

first things first: do you like spring? Love spring, probably my favorite season.

what is your favorite thing about spring? Fresh air, the budded trees, green grass under foot, birds in the air, animals roaming the woods, people laughing outside, bubbling brooks, I could really write a book on spring.

what is your least favorite thing about spring? Pollen allergies. My biggest weakness.

do you have a vegetable / produce / fruit garden? Yes, it's basically my pride and joy. Love gardening, it's my biggest source of stress relief, if I'm honest.

how about flower beds, or things planted in the house? I've got a couple of potted plants in Annabelle Lee, but there's not a lot of room. There's a couple of potted plants on my deck area, too.

regardless of what you do or do not plant, are you good at growing plants? have a green thumb? Very, I have a goal of growing prize-winning tomatoes at some point, fingers crossed.

what's your favorite flower or plant? Painted trillium, lupines, asters, all of the typical native flowers you see in and around Maine.

what's your favorite scent that you associate with spring? Flowers, mud, campfire smoke.

is there a sound that you associate with spring time? Peepers, those little frogs that come out at the start of spring.

do you prefer sunny mornings or rainy afternoons? Sunny mornings, but I don't have anything against rainy afternoons, either. Both have their upsides.

favorite thing to do on a sunny, warm spring day? Go on a long walk through the woods, head out to the beach to sit by the cliffs, maybe just go to the park.

favorite thing to do on a rainy, chilly spring day? House cleaning. Perfect time to catch up on things I've fallen behind in. Or just hang out and read, watch TV, relax a little bit.

do you celebrate Easter? any traditions you follow for it? Not really. We used to do stuff as a family when I was a kid, but I don't do anything for it now.

regardless of if you do or don't: favorite Easter candy? Sour jelly beans.

what other springtime holidays do you observe? I went to the St. Patrick's Day celebrations, other than that, nothing really. I like spring and all the spring things that happen, but they're not really holidays in the same way. Oh! I do always plant trees for arbor day.

favorite place in Merrock to visit in the springtime? I haven't been in Merrock in the spring time yet, at least not since I was a kid. I used to love to go out to the creek and hike the falls after a big rain.

the spring bugs are coming out: do you rescue them and let them out of the house, or grab the nearest shoe? Rescue them, even if they become a problem, I try to use the humane traps to get rid of them. Unless they're invasive species, they can get fucked.

are you a big spring cleaner? My camper's kept clean all year round.

do you switch over your wardrobe from cold weather to warm weather clothes? No, I don't have a big enough wardrobe to worry about having to change things over from season to season.

how about the house: does your decor change for the spring season? do you rearrange furniture? ... that would be a neat trick. No. I do put out a few season-appropriate decorations, or change out pillows/bedding, but not really a lot past that.

what color makes you think 'spring'? Every pastel shade; soft yellow, light green, pink, purple, orange.

describe your perfect spring outfit: Cargo shorts, henley, hiking boots -- done.

most adorable looking baby animal that you ever did see? Baby foxes are pretty cute, so are bears. I like deer, too. Most baby animals are adorable, except for a lot of birds until they fluff out.

what's a drink that makes you think of spring? Fruit juices.

how about a snack? In line with that, fruit.

Bought these framed cards/prints in a charity shop today - recycled paper, typeset by hand, antique letterpress printing from 2003. Have since proceeded to go on a deep dive of the creators. Some of my favs I've found below.

Saturn Press

Saturn Press founded in 1986 by married couple Jane Goodrich who creates the designs and James van Pernis who runs the company's 4 antique printing presses. Based on Swan's Island off the Maine coast, this eco-conscious company helped create the bridge that saved craft printing. Using an old-fashioned letterpress technique, paper sourced from a sustainable family-run mill, and a love for what they do, Saturn Press expanded the colour palette with custom blending of each ink colour and engaging in elaborate methods rarely used by printers of the past or present.

Thistle and Mj's first egg of clutch 5 is fertile.

Leela's second may be due this afternoon.

As late as Danica laid hers last night, I'm not expecting the next until tomorrow.

If she lays before 11am or so, that'll still be Satin's.

After that, chances are better that it's Ginger's.

If it is, then pigeons have the same timeline from insemination to viable egg as a Ringneck Dove: which we found out was 5 days, not the seven that was common knowledge up to that point.

Nettle takes 0 shit from Angel.

Liang begged Pippin to tread her.

Of the present peeper crop, Nettle and Patch seem the most outgoing with Nobu close behind.

Rogue has been curious, but Patch may be insisting she she isn't allowed.

Nettle and Patch now fight over who gets to sit on my knee.

They had settled on Nettle on my left knee, Patch on my right.

Rogue, trying to figure out how to get into my lap around Patch and Nettle.

Aaand then Pippin decided no one was allowed in my lap!

And he didn't want to be there either.

He got down as soon as he chased the peeps off, and I went in. XD

We may already have proven the 5 day time line!

I thought it was laid just a few days too soon after her last clutch!

I guess that means the accurate sex to fertile egg time line is 5 days.

The egg Nica is on now may still be Satin's, because they definitely did tread.

Ho-lee shit, y'all, there are 13 eggs in the boxes...

And possibly 2 more due between tomorrow and Monday...

Liang can go when ever. Rogue will be 5 weeks old on the 29th, so the 27th of next month or the 3rd of May.

After her second round of vaccinations on the 26th.

Thankfully, the VAST majority of this upcoming round will be available.

I have never been so excited and intimidated in my life! XD

"Do you do daily trainings or do you think dedicating your entire Tuesday/Thursday will be enough?"

a little bit of handling daily, but with that many peeps, cleaning days will be SO much more labor intensive!

Tuesdays and Thursdays, I will have a lot more time to spend on them individually.

And now that I can drive, and will hopefully be getting my own vaccines soon, the public part of training will be something I can take care of much more easily.

Diamond Lakes park is about two miles away, and there are covered areas we can probably use in nice weather near enough for peeps to see other people (so I can gauge their reactions), but far enough away to minimize risk to the other humans enjoying our blink-and-you-miss-it half second of mild weather before spring shifts over to brutally hot, drown on your front porch humid summer.
