how do you know that about queen
Freddie as Leatherman is one of my favorite topics thank you. i love talking about leather history, and he's the most famous leatherman in the world.
But also this is just a lot of speculation and reaching so don't take it too seriously.
Tumblr media
so this is his "don't stop me now" outfit here's the shirt he's wearing
Tumblr media
The Mineshaft was one of two very popular new york leather bars. The Mineshaft was like THE leather bar (though the Eagle's nest still exists and leather bars across the world named themselves The Eagle after the Eagle's nest) when you think of like sleezy sex leather bars the image in your head was probably based on the Mineshaft.^
So now that we have established that Freddie is a Leatherman (this is no other reason for a man to wear a leatherbar t-shirt in 1979) we need to talk about this
Tumblr media
So here Freddie is dressed like a leatherman on a casual crusing night. He's got his button fly jeans, they're tight as shit, his leather belt, tight white shirt that shows off his hairy chest and of course the leather band around his arm (the only issue is despite being dressed like this he would not be allowed in the mineshaft because of his shoes, alas he was not going to a bar and had to dress so he could jump around at a concert) The armband is the most important; it's on his right arm. but first some queer flagging history.
So you've probably heard that the right ear is the gay ear to get pierced, right? I think that in America, that might have been kind of true in some places but in the leather community (and cruising culture) left/right have a lot of significance. if you were flagging left that meant you wanted to be the do-er and if you flagged right that meant you wanted things done to you. (please note I'm not saying top/bottom because when you get into it flagging for specific sex acts exists outside of the top/bottom dynamic) This is the basis of the hanky code, where each color represents a sex act and you choose your back pocket depending on whether you want to be the do-er or have it done to you. But it was also used for things like keys on belt loops (Lesbians take this one and turn it into an iconic piece of lesbian fashion) handcuffs on belt loops also, this was particularly useful for men who were up to negotiating, they would put their handcuffs in the center belt loop at their back. Of course arm bands. Or if you're really sure of being the do-er or having stuff done to you ear piercings.
Taking this knowledge, what we can then say is Freddie in this picture is flagging as "have stuff done to me." this next picture combines everything we've just learned and one other important piece of information.
Remember how briefly mentioned hanky code? The story goes in San Francisco a man named Alan Selby, founder of the iconic Mr. S Leather, and a friend had ordered some handkerchiefs but received FAR too many in too many colors. SO they decided to sell this stock they would make up a code to help gay men in the 70s find sex easier and sell the hankys. Black meant you were into heavy SM, Grey was Bondage, dark blue was greek passive/active, light blue was oral sex and red was fisting.
Now I don't know how true this was in the 70s/80s but now a day's if you see someone with for example a leather harness with red trim, or yellow trim the assumption is they're flagging.
Tumblr media
If we take all of this information and put it together and look at Freddie who is wearing a red cuff on his right wrist (and a red bandana to boot) we can say he was looking for a fist up the ass.
NOW this all falls apart when you realize that, aside from like maybe San Francisco's Castro District gay men weren't flagging so outwardly outside of bars and cruising areas. They weren't wearing yellow hankies in their back pocket to the grocery store.
So is this picture Freddie telling the world he's into handballing? Is he letting a select few members of his audience know? or is he just wearing a red sweatband on his right wrist and a matching bandana around his neck? I don't know, we'll neve know.
At any rate it's funny to watch men get their shit twisted about Josh when Freddie was broadcasting all this.
^ the costume for the biker from The Village People (yes the ones that did YMCA) was taken from the outfits men wore to the Mineshaft, Glenn Hughes who was the original biker was a leatherman, and in fact all the characters from The Village People are based on gay masculine archetypes

Do you wear rubber gear normally?
Not as much as I'd like too. Believe it or not St. Louis isn't known for its rubber community, and we even just lost our leatherbar last year.

I have a lot of fun, and really cool footnotes in my thesis. My advisor wasn’t kidding when he called this thing “a eulogy and manifesto” but I think my favorite footnote is a reference to a Thom Gunn letter
“in an odd twist of fate Gunn sent this letter to woods who wrote a chapter of this thesis on the sadomasochistic implications of Gunn’s poetry. Gunn found the chapter lacking and his poetry wildly misunderstood. The author of this thesis hopes that should Gunn read this chapter from the great leatherbar in the sky he finds it more satisfactory.”

How To Make A Leather Blacksmith Apron | Lapron
The Real Progressive Vintage Blacksmith Leather Apron is a heavy-duty apron made specifically for blacksmiths. This apron is constructed of Full Grain Leather Blacksmith Apron cowhide leather and is extremely durable.
Tumblr media
How To Make A Leather Blacksmith Apron
This is a very simple  for making a Leather Black Apron for use in your wood shop or just for use around the house. Aprons come in handy for all sorts of things and can be exceptionally customizable. There are a few simple steps to follow to get the perfect apron for you.
- Select and Cut Your Leather
- Chose Your Pocket and Strap Layout.
- Sewing/ Rivet construction
Step 1: Choosing Leather and Cutting the Pattern
When making an apron there are a lot of potential factors to take into consideration such as weight, cost, and area of use. These will play into your Blacksmith Leather Apron Pattern. I strongly suggest going to a local leather store and talking with them if you are unfamiliar with the different cuts, weights, and tanning methods.
Step 2: Pocket and Strap Layout
Now that we have our pieces cut out, we can choose a design. I chose a simple set of compartments with a hammer holster. This is your chance to be as inventive as you want. You can put pockets within other pockets or build a fast layout guide like I did. One thing I suggest is double-checking that the pocket you select will accommodate the item you intend to put in it. Because I didn't like the way the hammer sat on the hip, I had to cut three different designs for the hammer holster. The important thing to remember is that there is no such thing as a bad response, but there is very little room for error once you've moved on to the process stage.
Step 3: Construction
Putting the belt and pockets together I attached the components in two different ways. I then set the belt and neck pieces where I wanted them and sketched a delicate shape with a sharp awl before applying contact cement to the inside of the scribes area and the back of the strap. I carefully placed them together once they were tacky. I then used rivets to reinforce the connection. You're ready to go on to finishing once all of the straps and pockets have been set.

It’s way to warm for the end of November. So have this story about Jack and Mikey that was supposed to be fluffy but ended up not being fluffy at all. Jack calls Mikey boy not bc Mikey is a child (he’s like 23/4), but bc they met at a leatherbar and that’s the dynamic of their relationship, it’s said affectionately.
---
“You’re cold.” Mikey said, glaring up at Jack. Jack went to shake his head, but then, giving himself away, he shivered. “See you’re cold.” Mikey sighed. The boy took his hands out of his jacket pockets and pulled his hat off. His green hair, in complete disarray.
“I don’t need your hat boy.” Jack said but Mikey had stopped walking standing right in front of Jack, giving him no choice but to stop walking as well. Mikey looked behind him, and then around Jack bit his lip and stood up on his toes. Jack could have just taken the hat himself but instead he let the boy have his moment, dipping his head just enough that Mikey could pull his hat over Jack’s ears. He did feel warmer but he wasn’t sure if that was from the hat or the grin on Mike’s face.
“You know.” Mikey said, continuing their walk down the street as if nothing had happened. “You’d be warmer if you wore a sweater under your jacket.” The boy smirked “I know it’s not cool but you’re an artist, couldn’t you wear a black turtle neck and get away with it?”
Jack huffed, Mikey was right he would be warmer if he were wearing something other than a tshirt under his jacket.
“And they make these things for your hands, they’re called mittens, like those skimpy little leather things you wear to the bar but-” Jack put his arm around Mikey’s shoulder’s, his neck, pulling the boy in front of him. The boy was grinning, his eyes alight with mischief.
“And who would come home with the man wearing a black turtleneck and mittens?”
Mikey’s grin never faded his eyes still twinkling “I’m not the best judge, considering I followed a man olden enough to be my father home but-”
“Boy-”
“But I’d say a man in a sweater and mittens probably didn’t have his dick shriveled up by the cold so-”
“Boy.”
“I just care about you, is all.” Mikey mumbled, the playfulness in his eyes replaced by the kind of earnestness that only came from someone in their twenties.
‘It’s not your job to take care of me.” Jack said, letting Mikey go, shielding him from the glare of the shopkeeper across the street. If he was upset at this show of affection, knowing what Jack wanted to do to Mikey at that moment would have killed the old man.
“We’re a team, it goes both ways.” Mikey said.
“I know how to keep myself warm, I’ve lived here longer than you’ve been alive.” Jack said his first winter in New York had been tough, moving from Los Angeles to New York had been tough. But now after almost 25 years he had a handle on it.
“You always do this.” Mikey said, following Jack up the steps of his building. “People love you Jack, we want to take care of you.”
Jack held the door open for Mikey, wishing he could go back to that moment on the street, to put the light back in Mikey’s eyes. “Why don’t you let us?”
Jack didn’t say anything, opting for the stairs instead of the elevator, Mikey hated elevators. He didn’t say anything all the way to his apartment, his apartment because Mikey wouldn’t move in with him, no matter what he said.
“I don’t need to be taken care of.” It was stubborn, Jack knew he was just being stubborn, but he didn’t think he could explain it to the boy standing next to him.
“Everyone needs to be taken care of.” Mikey was reaching up, taking the scarf from around Jack’s neck, hanging it on a hanger before unzipping Jack’s jacket. Jack took over then, letting Mikey take his own coat off.
“Not me.” Jack said he wanted to grab Mikey’s ass, wanted to lay in front of the fireplace and spend the rest of the day making out with his beautiful boy. But Mikey hadn’t responded and after hanging his own jacket was walking away, walking to the couch, and picking up the book he’d left at Jack’s place.
Sighing Jack decided he’d try to get some work done, walking to his studio he leaned down kissing the top of Mikey’s head.
“Even you Johnathan.” Mikey said, quietly, so quietly Jack wasn’t sure he had heard correctly.
