How much of the self is present in the ancestor?
#i was feeling really bad and dysphoric so i picked up the crayons. as you do#and this evolved out of it and it got me thinking about a “return to animal” type sentiment#like i was watching videos of apes last night and thinking how different it must be to simply exist in your body#without hiding it in clothes and gender conformity and such#and then i was thinking about the idea of “returning” to a state of being you haven't even existed in#couldn't exist in. because you are a product of what came before you etc#(and ofc apes are almost as different from the common ancestor as we are so it wouldn't be returning to ape but like yknow#the abstract idea of the beings we were before we were humans.)#and like why do we call it returning if we ourselves were never there? how much of ourselves actually exists in the past?#why is it that we feel enough kinship to the past that we say “return” when we think about existing there?#anyway. rhetorical questions mostly. this drawing isn't exactly about that train of thought#but i felt i needed to put it somewhere. and this is where i thought of it and i like the way the caption looks#this drawing is sort of about the feverish desire to rid myself of physical discomfort#griffffdraws

As a routine blood donor, I was amused when they threw in the fact that humanoid!Odo is type O-. Bashir would be lurking around every corner trying to get some of that sweet, sweet universal blood. (Thanks to @the-last-teabender for the script lay-up.)

hi idk if anyone cares but i found out through some wiki surfing that george eacker who killed philip hamilton was engaged to harriet livingston, daughter of cornelia schuyler?? so i traced the family tree and she and philip were distant cousins...no wonder the marriage didn't go through.

De fato não se trata de uma bactéria, e não pertence a algum grupo específico, porém é um tipo de organismo unicelular.
Não existe algum fóssel de LUCA, porém todos os seres vivos compartilham do mesmo código que traduz informações de DNA e RNA para a produção de aminoácidos, e consequentemente formarão proteínas, onde LUCA se apresenta em toda a cadeia de espécies.
ONDE LUCA HABITARIA?
Há alguns anos cientistas acreditavam que LUCA teria se desenvolvido em lagos geotérmicos com temperaturas ultrapassando os 90°C, no entanto recentemente um grupo de pesquisadores (as) do Instituto Pasteur (França) encontraram evidências de que na verdade esse ancestral vivia em locais bastante gelados, pois não apresenta a proteína "girase reversa", resumindo — são extremófilos.

#people get very confused when i say im trying to learn german#i feel like the common response is a hesitant: oh... r u interested in ww2 stuff?#and im like... r u asking if im learning german so i can like read 1st hand accounts from the naz1s????#bc that is the big german thing ppl kno. but no. thats not y i wanna learn german#my family is just extremely german but in a way thats so Americanized that we dont pronounce our last name correctly#and im the only one now how knows how to do that. so its like. this is the language of my ancestors#and a lot of labs in Germany r doing research im interested in so if i got good enough in the next 5 or 6 years i could do a post doc in#germany so it would b good to speak the language. and also i think its weird that ppl call it a harsh sounding language#bc idk it sounds sorta gutteral but no more or less harsh than any other imo#idk thats my new years resolution i guess. get a lot better at german. expand my lil vocabulary#aber ich bin zu krank und müde :-[ und mein deutsch ist kaputt und hässlich#gebrochen is probably the better broken but whatever#did i put and ist in there? im too lazy to check#whatever. im gonna try to buy a staple gun tomorrow so thats fun#unrelated

really worried that my village is going to go down a track of racism now.
A bunch of middle eastern dudes bought an old house near the church last year.
last week they were caught stealing from other peoples gardens.
Yesterday one of them straight up threw a rock the size of your average bar of soap at the head of a girl that was just chilling on the stepts of the church (they‘re a popular hangout spot for the youth in our village) during the anniversary celebration of our volunteery firefighters. There were several eye witnesses, the girl is now in the hospital in critical condition.
My village allready has an issue with racism towards eastern folks and I feel like this is only going to make it worse because like 80% of the people here were born during or right after ww2 and don‘t really seem to understand that every culture has some bad apples and just because this guy is an absolute ass that doesn’t mean that everyone from his culture is.
The guy is most likely going to get a charge with attempted manslaughter.
#you have no idea how common the word schlawacke is in my village#It‘s a derogatory term for everyone from east of germany#the term stems from the name of the region slowakia#and is pronounced shla-wa-keh for those who wanna know what it sounds like so you can call out the racism when you hear it#my dad uses it so commonly and it honestly disgusts me#I‘ve literally left the dinnertable because he always gets so angry when talking about easterners#my best friend is russian-german in second generation for fucks sake#my buddy with the fluffy cars has russian roots too#my other homie that I go to medieval markets with all the time has roots in the Sudeten mountains#which are in the czech republic#my friend linh (the one who does all these cool cosplays) is vietnamese#same goes for my little buddy that I always take to annotopia and prideparades#he‘s basicly discriminating against the majority of my friendgroup without even realizin it#and our own ancestors too considering that on the 1400 our family literally came to fermany from poland#my last name is a polish city for fucks sake

sometimes I like to think about how there is a direct unbroken line from me to the primordial soup. yes I'm here because of my parents and grandparents and great grandparents. but I'm also here because way way back life appeared. I'm here because some animal figured out how to get onto land. how to breathe air. how to give birth and make milk. that something I am directly related to survived extinction events- but not just survived, actively thrived. did well enough to live, find a mate, raise offspring that survived and thrived to do the same. you know how hard that is? how rarely that can happen in nature? and it happened over and over and over and over until it reached me.
yes, I look like my grandmother. and if you go back, I probably look a little like a woman a thousand years ago. but I also probably look a little like our last common ancestor with the other human species. I probably look a little like our last common ancestor with primates, with mammals, with fish, with everything that came before that.
everyone before me has survived, so I can't let them down.

man ive heard so many people be confidently wrong about who is or isn't their second cousin that i was like "oh maybe i am wrong about how the 'second cousin one removed' thing works"
but nope i had it absolutely nailed down and people just dont know what theyre talking about
(which is fair bc its kinda confusing and usually irrelevant)
#grand-aunt#but also its not nearly as complicated as it sounds#like its not actually any more complicated than#its just very VISUAL i think is the problem#its complicated if you only have words#but still the rules are this#first/second/third etc. is about how far away from you they are in terms of last common ancestor#once/twice/three times removed etc. is about how far away from you they are generationally#and it doesnt matter which direction generationally they are (i.e. older or younger)#but i think people dont like the 'X removed' part so they try to lump the two things together#which is fair
