@worlds-greatest-mystery we are landlocked and have a very arid climate so the summer rain is the most precipitation we get all year, it’s usually very heavy and dramatic but typically doesn’t last more than an hour before it moves on and can sometimes only last a few minutes. It’s increasingly important because the forest fires get worse and worse every year and since a very large part of the economy is agriculture and we have a growing season of only a few months (May to October), droughts can be absolutely catastrophic for us.
On top of that, the humidity doesn’t usually stay in the air like it does in places closer to water (which was a disgusting, sticky surprise i learned living in Toronto). When it gets really really hot, it usually ends in a big storm which cools everything back down again and is a huge relief rather than making it unbearably humid. The sun will come back out as quickly as it left, and there won’t be a cloud in the sky.
Even though summer is our rainiest time, we usually don’t get more than 50-55ml for the wettest month of the whole year (July). We got almost three times that this year in June, which was incredibly unusual, and closer to what Vancouver (which is actually known for rain) gets in their wettest month (November).
basically, just bring a plastic poncho to an outdoor festival, wait a few minutes, and you’ll be completely dry again in no time :)
