Ladynoir July Day 15 - Forbidden
This is a gift for my beloved @sparklylovegiver because today is their birthday and I love them very much, and mom I am so sorry sketchy and I are always tormenting you with angst so here is my gift to you: I try to NOT be as angsty as usual, and offer you some warm humanitarian relief <3
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPARK!! 💞💞💞
--
Day 15 - Forbidden
For Sparky
“Chat, are you sure everything’s alright?” Ladybug said, interrupting the silence as she and Chat Noir patrolled the streets of Paris a few days after Nino’s last akumatization. “You’ve been very quiet lately.”
Chat frowned. “I’m okay, LB,” he reassured and offered her a smile, but Ladybug saw right through it.
She stopped and placed a hand on his shoulder, forcing him to look squarely at her. “Chat...”
“I just... I was just wondering...” He sighed. “It’s nothing. Really, don’t worry about it. You... you’ll get mad I asked.”
Ladybug searched his eyes with concern in her expression. “Chat Noir, I promise I won’t get mad. You can talk to me. What’s wrong, minou?”
He looked down, unable to deliver his question while being pinned by her piercing stare. “I was just wondering... why can’t we know each other’s identities? I mean... you are the Guardian, aren’t you? You-you're the one that makes the rules, and I was just thinking... I mean, it’s because... Well, I just... Never mind.”
“Tell me,” Ladybug encouraged.
Chat Noir shook his head. “I can’t. If I tell you more I might give myself away.”
Ladybug was warmed by the fact that despite Chat had always longed to reveal his identity and even was asking about it, he still respected her decision.
Ladybug sighed and took a step forward to him. She grabbed both his hands as she spoke. “Do you trust me?”
“Yes,” he said immediately; a distinct discomfort settled in his stomach. That of not being able to tell whether he was telling the truth, or acting out what was expected of him.
“It’s to protect you.”
“Protect me?” he asked, puzzled. “Protect me from what?”
“From being akumatized.”
Chat frowned, itching to explain exactly where the question came from because Ladybug’s explanation made no sense. But he knew if he were to speak, he would probably unravel a gossip mill that would wound up with his identity being discovered and him losing Nino’s trust. Against his own will, he bit his tongue.
“But how--”
“Trust me, chaton.”
He let go of an exasperated breath. “Can I ask you something else, though?”
“Of course.”
“And you promise to be honest?”
“As honest as I can be.”
“Are--are there any wielders that know each other? I mean, under the mask.”
“Why do you--”
“I just... was curious. I kept thinking about Rena Rouge and Carapace. They... they seem like they know each other. I mean, I can’t possibly explain why they act like a couple when they’re not even permanent wielders like us.”
Ladybug bit her lip, feeling her stomach plunge with nervousness. She promised to be honest. And really, what could possibly happen if she told him the truth? Chat was being curious, nothing more. Right?
“Yes,” she admitted. “They know each other behind the mask.”
Chat knew what the answer was going to be and yet he found himself feeling the same searing anger that briefly overtook him when he learned the truth from Nino. He took a deep breath and reeled in.
Ladybug could see the disappointment in his reaction. She waited for him to say something, but only silence met her. Anxious that Chat was angrier than he was letting on, she disposed to explain herself.
“It was an emergency,” she said, her voice helping Chat find his footing among the whirlwind of emotions that mangled him. “It was on Hero’s Day. When Scarlet Moth attacked, remember? I sent you to get Chloe and I went for Carapace and Rena. I found them together and I didn’t have time to come up with an excuse to separate them. I had no choice but to give them their Miraculous at the same time.”
The sigh of relief that escaped Chat was almost a little too obvious. It made Ladybug wonder whether his questions were really stemming from curiosity alone.
“Ladybug,” he said. “Can I ask you something else?”
She smiled sweetly at him and teased, “You’re quite inquisitive today, aren’t you? Okay, shoot.”
Chat Noir couldn’t help the smile that spread on his lips as he rolled his eyes.
“If you didn’t have to “protect” me,” he air-quoted. “Would... would it still be forbidden for us to know each other?”
“Chat...”
He looked away, unable to hide his disappointment. “It’s okay.” His baton beeped with an alarm clock he had set. He needed to be back in the mansion in ten minutes. “That’s me,” he said. “I have to go now. See you around, LB.”
“Wait,” Ladybug said, grasping his wrist and forcing him to wait. She sighed, and then looked at him with a pleading, a longing, Chat had never seen in her before. It made his heart skip and stumble.
“I had never thought about it,” she explained and knitted her eyebrows in concentration. “But I guess... it depends. If the stakes were lower, maybe. But kitty, you have to remember, our main objective is to defeat Shadowmoth, and we cannot afford to be vulnerable.”
“But Carapace and Rena...”
“I can bench them whenever I please, even change wielders. But I can’t fight without you. You’re irreplaceable.”
Chat Noir pouted, determined to push his argument. “But--but... aren’t they stronger for it? Wouldn’t we be stronger if we knew? And if you’re scared that we may become akumatized... can’t-- can’t you just... I don’t know, make one of those charms you’ve learned to make?”
Ladybug couldn’t help but chuckle. “It’s not so simple, Chat. I’m still not exactly sure how to do that. And don’t you remember what happened with them during the Hero’s Day fight? Carapace was distracted and Rena sacrificed herself, then Queen Bee was taken off guard because Hawkmoth knew her identity and used her family against her. It’s not as easy as just Akuma-proofing.”
“But would you want to?” he insisted, desperation becoming apparent in his voice. “Would you want to know who I am if none of this were in the way?”
A painful knot forming in Ladybug’s throat prevented her from speaking more clearly. “Yes,” she muttered. “Of course I would, Chat.”
Chat Noir looked at her with hope.
“We’ve been through so much together, of course, I would like to know who you are. What you’re like when you’re not making horrible puns, what sort of movies you watch, if you play any sports, what your dream job is... I’d like to know all that. But... we can’t,” she said, sadly. “At least not yet.”
“Not yet?” Chat Noir repeated, his voice broken and evidencing the fact he was holding back tears.
She smiled with a light blush on her cheeks. “Once this is over, chaton.”
“R-really? You promise?”
Ladybug took a moment to reply, if only because she was making the conscious effort to make sure she was promising something she’d be able to deliver. “Yes,” she said softly.
Chat’s eyes glistened with tears, which he hurried to wipe off with his forearm. Then, the alarm went off again.
He hiccupped, trying to not let the menacing tears get the best of him. “Okay.”
He unclipped the baton and disposed to vault off. At the last minute, he turned back to her. “LB?”
“Yes?” she said, smirking. “Weren’t you about to leave?”
“Meowch, trying to get rid of me already?”
Ladybug rolled her eyes and chuckled. “What is it, Chat?”
“We’re good at keeping secrets, right?”
“Right.”
“Do you mind keeping one for me?”
Ladybug looked at him with amused curiosity, then nodded.
Chat gulped, trying to swallow the hammering pulse stuck in his chest. He bent down and quickly pecked her cheek, catching Ladybug by surprise and eliciting a deep, crimson blush on her face.
“Thanks for answering my questions, m’lady,” he whispered before rushing out of view.

Never Give up!
Written by: JuliaFC
Beta: @rose-beagle-bagel (I beg your pardon, got the names confused!)
Summary: After Gabriel lowers his bar by locking Adrien up in his room unless he relinquishes his ring (because apparently, 'it interferes with his work'), Chat Noir can see only one solution. But Ladybug doesn't agree.
Disclaimer: This story is based on characters and situations created and owned by (c) Thomas Astruc, TS1 Bouygues, Disney Channel, Zagtoon, Toei Animation. No money is being made and no copyright or trademark infringement is intended.
Written for the "Snippet July" challenge of the Miraculous Fanworks Discord server @miraculousfanworks AND for LadyNoir July @ladynoirjuly Day 8 — Tyranny/Admiration. Let me know what you think!
oOoOoOoOoOo
Adrien knocked at the door of his father's atélier and waited for him to tell him to come in.
"Adrien," commanded Gabriel. Adrien gulped and stood there.
"You wanted to speak with me, father?" he asked, his heart drumming in his ears.
Gabriel gave him a cold stare. "It has come to my attention that you wear items of clothing that haven't been agreed in the exclusivity contract of the Agreste brand."
"What?" Adrien had to check that he'd heard correctly. "Father, I only wear the clothes you provide for me."
Gabriel's gaze hardened. "Show me your hands."
Adrien gasped. "Is it about my ring?"
"François complained after yesterday's photoshoot. He told you to take the ring off because it was interfering with the outfit, and you refused. Is this true?"
"I-it is." Adrien gulped. Gabriel’s gaze punctured his soul and the boy put his left hand on top of his right one, as if to protect his Miraculous from his father's attention.
"Hand over the ring."
Adrien's face paled "No! No, father, why? You can't—"
"I can and I will, Adrien. Your attachment to that junk has affected your work. It's stated clearly in your contract that all you wear must be pre-approved. I won't give you my approval for something that can damage your image."
"Father!" retorted Adrien, his body tense. "It's only a ring!"
"Go back to your chamber. I'll cancel your enrollment at school; from tomorrow you shall resume your homeschooling lessons with Nathalie." Gabriel sneered when Adrien gasped. "You won't be allowed to see any of your friends nor to set foot out of this house until you relinquish that ring."
Adrien's eyes widened in shock and his mouth hung open. "You can't be serious, father? Containing me in my room, for a ring?"
"If it was only that, you would've relinquished it here and now. Evidently, it's not 'only a ring' to you. You're refusing a direct order. I won't repeat myself, go to your chamber."
Adrien balled both hands into fists, his arms shaking, his eyes looking down. "I can't believe this," he muttered. He got up and, glaring at his father with tears in his eyes, dragged himself out of his office.
oOoOoOoOoOo
Chat heard the soft thump behind him and saw Ladybug sitting graciously next to him. His gaze scanned gloomily the city of Love beneath them. A view that until now, had been for him and his Lady, only. A look that he would never see again. His heart sank when his gaze met bluebells. It was the only way.
"You said that it was important, Chaton?" said Ladybug, but she immediately noticed his heavy gloom. "What's wrong?"
"I… need to give my Miraculous back." Ladybug sucked her breath in. "I'm sorry."
She put a hand on his shoulder. " W-what's going on?"
He lowered his gaze as his hand played with the Miraculous on his ring finger. "My life at home isn't easy, Buginette. I have a lot of restrictions and up to now, I have been able to pencil time for our patrols and escape timely enough to help you in the akuma fights." He sighed. "But things have changed today. My fath-uh-family is very controlling. I can’t do anything that isn't 'pre-approved'." He paused. "Today, I've been asked to relinquish my ring. I've been literally locked up in my own house with no possibility of getting out until I do it."
He found his eyes looking at Ladybug; all he saw was disbelief in her face.
"I never knew that your civilian life was so difficult, Chaton. I can't believe that someone you call 'family' would forbid you from wearing a ring. Can you not just put it on a chain to your neck?"
Chat Noir sighed. "No, M’lady. They would see the chain and ask me to remove it. By contract I'm not allowed to wear anything that is not branded Ag—uh, family brand. Until today, the rule never bothered me; now… it bit me in the back."
"I cannot believe that a family member could be such a tyrant!" Ladybug's voice was high and cracking and Chat Noir's green eyes were on the brink of tears. He explained to Ladybug the truth of his situation, trying to avoid any detail that would give his identity away. He explained how his mother died a year ago, how his father hardened since her death, how he sometimes didn't even have time to breathe with all the commitments his family was pushing on him.
"Woah," muttered Ladybug absent-mindedly. "You're always so cheerful, Minou. I would never have thought you were going through such-such hell." Her eyes were burning with anger. "I don't know how you do it. Honestly, I admire you, Chaton. It sounds as if you had your hands full, but you were never late for a patrol and you always arrived as soon as possible during akuma attacks. You must have the best organisational skills in the world."
Chat Noir smiled. "Thank you, Buginette. Your admiration means the world to me." His smile faltered. "How do you want to do it? Should I take you to my room and detransform?"
She grabbed his hands and looked up at him with a frown of pure determination. "No way, Chaton. You're not giving up on the only freedom you have. I'm not doing this without you either." Her voice cracked. "It's you and me against the world, remember? Ladybug and Chat Noir. If you're giving up yours, I'll be giving up mine. Together or nothing." She smiled softly as she said that and he smiled shyly back. "We will find a way," she continued. "But first, c'me here." She opened her arms wide and Chat Noir's eyes filled with tears as he let her wrap him into a hug.
Yes, she was right. They would find a way. They were an unstoppable team and there was nothing on this planet that they couldn't overcome together.

Author's Note
Hi there! Here we are with day 8. I know… but with a prompt like 'tyranny' all I could think of was angst. Hope I managed to save it at the end with a little fluff. I hope you like it and will leave me a comment. You know that comments are my bread and butter!
Until (hopefully) tomorrow, bug out!

The Moon in Two Pieces
Ladybug tells Chat that she can’t ever love him, and he misunderstands her meaning.
This is a little drabble story for @ladynoirjuly day 20 “Save Me” (so it’s a bit angsty ‘cause Chat Blanc) and I would love it if you checked it out on AO3 by clicking here
or you can read it below the cut
“I can’t.” Ladybug took a shaky breath and looked into her partner’s eyes. “I’m sorry—it’s not you. I just can’t. Please don’t ask again.”
Chat’s brows furrowed in frustration—not with her, but with himself. He’d thought things were changing between them lately. These days she watched his movements with something like interest, though she’d glance away every time he caught her looking. She laughed at his jokes, even when it wasn’t his best material, and blushed at his winks. And tonight he knew he hadn’t imagined the catch in her breath when he let his lips linger on her knuckles during his goodbye. He’d let himself hope.
It was a stupid mistake.
“I understand,” he said. “It’s my fault—I misread the situation.”
She frowned at him, her eyes intense with some emotion—irritation, he thought maybe, or possibly derision. He took a step back and played his favorite card, which was worn at the edges but usually took the trick. He shrugged and gave her an off-hand grin. “Had to ask one more time. You know what they say about cats and curiosity.”
She didn’t smile. “We should…”
“Finish patrol, yeah.” He needed to get out of there anyway. He had about thirty seconds of lighthearted banter left in him before she’d see his pain and know how deeply he was affected. He didn’t want to change things between them.
Because there was nothing new in his asking the question.
But this was the first time in a long time he’d felt the possibility of a new answer.
_____________________
Ladybug watched her partner disappear into the night and she ached to call after him. He said he’d misread the situation.
He’d never been more correct in his entire life. Because she’d told him the truth and he didn’t seem to understand a word of it.
I can’t. I’m sorry, it’s not you.
That was what she said, but what she’d meant by it was
When I say I can’t love you, it’s not because you’re unlovable. You know those stars you think I hung in the sky? Have you ever noticed how they look so much brighter in the dark of the wild, far from the city lights?
That’s you. I don’t know the first thing about your real life, but I know when you are pasting a smile over a broken heart. I have seen the defeat in the curve of your shoulders and the tightness around your eyes and the way you think a pun will distract me from your pain. I let you teach me languages and constellation mythology and the premise of every anime you’ve ever seen because you’ll talk about anything rather than go home. Somehow you keep shining out of the darkness, brighter because of it, enough to bring me light when I need it most.
You lend me strength when I’m weak and smiles when I’m sad. You’re warmth and contentment. I’ve never met anyone so worthy of love. So when I say I can’t love you, it’s not because of you.
When I say I can’t love you, I don’t mean I’m incapable of it. I had to tell you not to ask again because I’m weak. It takes every bit of my strength not to love you. Sometimes I think the denial is beyond my power. I could love you with so little effort. It would be like stumbling on a cliff’s edge—a mistake followed by a free fall. Thrill and terror, the work of physics and my own foolishness, and then a very destructive conclusion.
Because when I say I can’t love you, it’s because I once did. I know you don’t remember and neither do I, but it happened. I loved you.
I loved you and I saw the sky split open and the world flood. I stood in the silence of an empty city. I saw myself crumble to ash and dissolve into nothing. I saw you broken and shattered and beyond my reach. I know you think this is hopeless, but you have to believe me when I say I’ve seen a greater hopelessness.
It’s you and me against the world, Kitty, but not in the way you imagine. It’s not a battle but a choice: you and me, at the expense of the world? We’re superheroes, of course, so there’s a certain expectation that we endeavor to save the world. On top of that, you’re so innately selfless and good that I’m certain you’d weigh the cost of us and arrive at the same conclusion I did.
It’s not the story I want. But it’s the story that ends with the moon in one piece.
You asked me if I thought I could ever love you.
Please understand me when I say that I absolutely can’t.
But I do.
__________________________
That was what she'd meant.
Ladybug brushed her fingers over the knuckle of her glove where she could still feel his kiss, and she weighed the cost again.

Ladynoir July Day 31 - Pound It
@ladynoirjuly
Rated: G Word count: 1,167
Read on AO3
—————————
Chat Noir exhaled in relief as he regained consciousness, and found himself standing in the exact same place he had been before the akumatized villain struck him. The only difference was that the previously demolished buildings around him were now perfectly unscathed, as if nothing had ever happened, as if it was just another normal day in sunny Paris.
(Then again, akuma attacks were the norm. They had been for so long, it was hard for Chat to imagine a world where they weren’t a thing. Plus, no akumas meant no Ladybug and Chat Noir, which was something he definitely didn’t want to imagine.)
Realising that his partner must have defeated the villain, Chat was about to pull out his baton and go look for her when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a tiny red blur in the distance that appeared to be heading towards him. It didn’t take long for him to figure out that it was Ladybug, and he felt his heart skip a beat as he watched her vault from rooftop to rooftop before landing on the ground a few feet away from him.
He held out his fist, eagerly awaiting for her to fistbump him like she always did once the akuma had been purified.
The fistbump never came.
“Pound i-”
Instead, Chat found himself being pulled into a tight embrace before he could finish his sentence, his breath hitching as Ladybug wrapped her arms around his neck.
“M’lady? Is something wrong?” He asked quietly.
“You have got to stop doing that.” She murmured into his shoulder, refusing to look up at him.
“Doing what?”
“Sacrificing yourself! Don’t you know how wreckless it is?!”
“Ladybug…” He began, placing a hand on her shoulder to try and reassure her.
“And it’s not just that,” She continued, her voice becoming increasingly strained as she tried to hold back tears, “what if one day my Miraculous Ladybug doesn’t work and I can’t bring you back?”
“That won’t happen.”
“You don’t know that!”
A single tear ran down Ladybug’s cheek as she averted her gaze to the ground. Chat stared down at her forlornly, trying to come up with something to say so there wasn’t an awkward silence between them.
“Hey, look at me.” He gently cupped her face in one hand, trembling slightly with nerves, and gave her the warmest smile he could muster.
“Listen, regardless of what happens I trust you to bring me back, and that’s what matters. I know it’s not exactly ideal but…”
“I know,” She said softly, nodding her head. “I know.”
Giving in to temptation, Chat offered her his outstretched arms for another hug, which she gladly accepted. For what felt like ages, the two of them just stood there basking in each other’s warmth while they tried to forget how stressful the day had been.
As Chat slowly rubbed soothing circles on Ladybug’s back, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sadness at the thought of having to return home, to be welcomed with stern looks, an empty dining table and a firm, cold hand on his shoulder. A part of him was desperate to simply stay with Ladybug, who he knew would always greet him with a playful, affectionate smile and comforting words which made his heart soar.
Of course that was just wishful thinking, and when they eventually pulled apart Chat did his best to remain his usual cheerful self - an art which he had managed to perfect over the years.
Suddenly he was hit with the realisation that they were still right in the middle of the street, and that the press could find them any moment now. Just thinking about it was enough to make Chat groan; he was definitely not in the mood to deal with overzealous journalists. Ladybug must have gone through the same thought process, because she then turned on her heel and beckoned for him to follow her.
More than happy to oblige, he exchanged smiles with her before taking off.
______________________
They ended up deciding to stop and rest on a nearby rooftop so they could enjoy the view for a while. At some point Chat Noir began humming, which Ladybug found to be quite relaxing, to her surprise.
Chat suddenly let out a yawn and stretched his arms up over his head. Stress and lack of sleep, courtesy of Shadow Moth, was clearly starting to take its toll on him.
Ladybug giggled and glanced over at him.
“Feeling tired, Chaton?”
He groaned and buried his face in his hands.
“Yes.” Came his muffled reply. “Ugh, why does superhero work have to be so exhausting?”
“Tell me about it.” Ladybug said, ruffling Chat’s hair. “One of these days I’m going to hunt Shadow Moth down and personally make him pay for all the sleepless nights I’ve had.”
Chat Noir burst out laughing and nodded in agreement.
“Can I tag along?” He asked, wiggling his eyebrows at her.
“Of course! Sure, we’re a team, aren’t we?”
“That we are.” Chat said with a wink. “Oh, hey! We forgot to do our thing!”
Ladybug stared in confusion for a moment, until he held out his fist once again.
“Pound it?”
She happily returned the gesture, looking at him with the same smile that always gave him butterflies - the good kind, obviously.
“Pound it.”
It was then that she did something so unexpected, Chat Noir couldn’t have imagined it even in his wildest dreams (okay, maybe he could have imagined it in the past, but certainly not now).
Intertwining their fingers, Ladybug pressed a gentle kiss to the back of his hand, which was enough to give him goosebumps and make him squeal in surprise. When their eyes met, he saw that her face was flushed bright red, practically the same colour as her suit.
She jumped away from him just as quickly as she had approached him, covering her face with her hands and peeking out at him between her fingers.
Chat knew that he ought to feel bad since Ladybug was clearly a nervous wreck, yet he couldn’t help but silently gush over her. He hadn’t thought it possible for someone to be so cute, yet there she was, proving him wrong again.
He tentatively moved towards her before taking her hands in his. Giving her his most heartfelt smile, he prayed that she would understand what he was trying to say.
It's okay, you don't need to feel embarrassed. Please don't go. I love you.
Ladybug must have figured it out, because she suddenly beamed up at him before jumping into his arms, making him stumble backwards in shock.
“I love you.” He heard her whisper, sending a shiver down his spine.
“I love you too.”
He lost track of how much time they spent up on that rooftop, holding onto each other as if their life depended on it, but there was one thing of which he was certain: he was the luckiest cat alive.

Day 9 Cinema
Chat learned from his first time. When he finally got a second opportunity he took her to see a comedy. Ladybug loved to laugh and he loved to hear it. They shared the popcorn in her lap. Chat wasn't even sure this was really a "date" but he wanted it to be. As the movie reached half way he decided to go for it. He stretched his arm up and out, faking a yawn as he moved. His arm wrapped around her and he could hear her giggle. Ladybug shifted pushing the armrest separating them up and between seats. She scooted closer, tucking herself under his arm and offering him the popcorn. Chat grinned. Ladybug turned to him, whispering just loud enough for him to hear.
"That yawn was a cliche move." Her lips just barely grazed his ear and he felt a shiver from her breath. Chat couldn't help smirk as he leaned down, his lips on the shell of her ear now.
"A cliche that worked." He thought he could hear her breath quicken for a second, but he just grabbed a handful of their shared popcorn. Chat leaned back in his seat, his arm draped over his lady's shoulder, and decided he could definitely get used to this.

if we’re bound to be something, why not together? (chapter 11)
Read on AO3
First / Previous / Next
Notes:  Double update to cheer up a bit! This chapter turned out much longer than I thought it would be, almost double the size of other chapters. No content warning, just fluff! The song "Blueming" by IU, I think this fits this chapter a lot so if you want a song to listen while you read, it's that! Day 11: Voice Mail/Phone calls. @ladynoirjuly
After their last patrol, Ladybug sent Chat Noir a link through their communicators.
[Download this!!] She sent along with it, eagerly waiting for him.
[As my lady commands : D] He sent back almost immediately.
That talk had been a bit of an eye-opener to Marinette. She was getting to know Chat Noir more and more each day and she treasured every bit of information she got, jealousy holding it close to chest, hesitating to write it even in her diary. He was a quiet student during class, he had a friend whose name was definitely not Sallie (ugh), his father was distant, his mother and mother-figure were out of reach. He was lonely. All this information was worrying, just not as much as what she learned that night. At that moment, with him shaking in her arms, she made a decision.
Being there for him just as Ladybug wasn't going to cut it anymore.
This idea wasn't anything new, she had been playing with it in her mind for a while now. So when she sent him a chat room code through her communicator with other instructions and detransformed, she was fairly confident it would work. Picking up her phone, she smiles as she saw that there was already a message.
CN
My lady!! <3 <3 <3
LB
down, Chaton. :)
CN
I'm just mdlaomqnahsbsk
Is it okay, though? Talking like this?
LB
yeah, i've been testing this app with RR and it's fine, there's no way we'll leak our numbers or anything like that to each other. don't worry ;)
CN
This app is to warn each other about attacks and schedule meetings? Are you going to add RR to the chat?
LB
nah, i'll just make one for the 3 of us. this is one for us to talk and stuff, doesn't need to be about job things.
The "CN is typing…" kept it's place on the screen for enough time for her to start getting worried.
CN
You don't need to force yourself for my sake, bug. I don't want to bother you.
Marinette thought about making a joke. The situation, however, didn't seem right for it.
LB
you never bother me.
His response came almost immediately.
CN
You never texted me before.
LB
guess i'll have to learn what's the maximum amount of cat memes a person can humanely send per day
CN
Is that a challenge, my lady?

I'll use my powers for good, don't worry : D
Marinette smiled and put down her phone, fixing up her bag for the next day on the chance (certainty) that she would wake up late the next day. When she picked the phone up again, there was a single text:
LB
Thank you, bug. Good night.
He was absolutely unstoppable after that. Next morning, as she was brushing her teeth, her cell phone pinged with the telling sound from the app and she smiled as she opened the app on her phone.
CN
Look, look, we can change each other's names.
LB

Good morning <3 <3 <3
Are you in class already?
Marinette froze in place, eyes snapping to the clock. There was only ten minutes before the class started. She bolted, barely noticing if she had on the right shoes or if her jacket matched her pants. So much for being an aspiring designer. Marinette blurred past the kitchen, taking a croissant and a banana and cramming them into her mouth as she ran. She made it to the classroom in the middle of the roll call, not even stopping by the lockers.
“Thanks for joining us, Marinette.” Ms. Bustier said dryly. “Please take a seat.”
“Thank you, ma’am.” She answered, out of breath. Sitting down, she took out her tablet and noticed another message making her phone screen glow.
Chat-terbox
Is everything okay?
lady of my heart

Chat-terbox
Nooooooooo
A giggle escaped her mouth.
"Marinette?" Ms. Bustier raised an eyebrow. "Something you want to share with the class?"
"N-no, ma'am." She answered, face heating up. Marinette quietly put her phone away, ignoring Alya's prying eyes.
She only opened the app again during the break between classes, moving away from a curious Alya to hang by Kim and Alíx.
Chat-terbox
I'll assume you're actually paying attention to class, which is great. You probably need it to make up all those crazy plans ;)
SM beaten by ninth grade physics
Hey, boo, did you see this one SM identity theory video making rounds on the internet?
Marinette frowned.
lady of my heart
there's nothing new on the ladyblog
Chat-terbox
Oh, it's not on the Ladyblog, here
She opened the video as quickly as she could before Ms. Bustier came back, only from the sound to make Kim and Alíx burst out into laughter.
lady of my heart

Chat-terbox

This time, she willingly put her phone away.
On the next break, she tried to ignore the pinging from her phone. However, curiosity killed the cat(‘s lady).
Chat-terbox
Please don't be mad, my lady, I have written you a lengthy apology to make up for sins

Sighing deeply, she clicked on the document. He would never shut up if she didn't. It read as:
l would like to offer my sincerest According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible…
She clicked back
Chat-terbox
Did you like it? :3
lady of my heart
blocked
Chat-terbox
Boo, noooooooo
After that, Marinette didn’t open the app again no matter how much her phone pinged. She wasn’t mad, not really, just a bit annoyed. Before lunch ended, she would read and answer. But now, she was stuck watching Alya and Nino play Super Penguino and make moon eyes at each other. Adrien wasn’t allowed to join them, as much as he begged his father, and she was feeling pretty bummed about that. She poked around her chicken pasta when she heard her phone playing a familiar song.
kore nani kore nani korenanikorenanikorenanikorenani-
Chat Noir!
"Is everything okay?" Marinette asked as soon as she picked up the phone. Alya and Nino, noticing her worried tone, paused their game to look at her.
"You picked up!" Chat Noir said, cheery. "I thought you blocked me."
She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Is there actually something wrong? I'll hang up "
"No, wait!" He yelped. "There's nothing wrong, I just wanted to talk. Are you busy?"
Marinette looked over at Nino and Alya, who were still watching her expectantly. She smiles reassuringly and waved them away, furtively signaling to Alya that it was Chat Noir on the phone. Her friend nodded and bumped her shoulder on Nino's.
"C'mon, babe, let Marinette talk to her 'friend' by herself." Alya said, leering.
"Why did you say it like that?" Nino asked, confused. Then, his eyes lit up. "Is it Adrien? Tell him I said hi!"
"No!" Marinette shouted, gaining weird stares from the other patrons.
"No, you aren't busy?" Chat Noir asked on the phone.
"No, it's not Adrien, or no, you won't tell him I said hi?" Nino asked.
"It's another friend." She said hurriedly before focusing on the phone. "I can talk now, not that busy."
"If you're with your friends, it's okay." He said, rather meekly for her chaton.
"I'm just third-wheeling." Marinette said as Alya and Nino began another round of Super Penguins. "Why did you call? Aren't you having lunch now?"
Chat Noir chuckled humorlessly. "Yeah, I'm having lunch at home and I'm all alone, so I thought I could give you a call. Is that too much?"
"No, it's fine." She reassured. "Why are you alone? What about your siblings?"
"What siblings?" He asked, genuinely confused.
"Uh… the siblings I assumed you had for some reason." She said awkwardly, noticing how out there she sounded the more she spoke.
"Really? You thought I had siblings? Why?"
"Because you're just like an annoying little brother." She said teasingly, a complete lie.
Chat Noir struck her as a mischievous, but supportive older brother. The kind that sneaked you treats after midnight and comforted you after failing a math test. Not like she could tell him that, though. If he was a little brother, it would be to a stressed older sister that he admired a lot and that found him reliable in return. She dreamed about meeting them sometimes and now it seemed that they would truly stay dreams forever.
"I would like an older brother or sister." He sighed longingly. "The closest I have is my cousin, but he lives in another country."
"Oh, sorry."
"No, it's better this way, we would kill each other if we lived together. Everyday I would have to check for poison in my breakfast."
"A true sibling dynamic."
"Yep."
"Hey, why aren't you having lunch with your friends then?" With Sallie, she wanted to tease, but held back for fear of sounding, as Tikki said, bitter.
"My father would rather I have lunch at home." He said vaguely. "My friends did invite me to go with them to a café, but my father didn't like the idea. He only likes one of them, the rest he says are bad influences."
"Let me guess, the one he likes is Sallie?"
"I can hear you rolling your eyes, but yes."
"Well, if you ever get lonely at lunch, you can call me." Marinette said honestly. "I don't mind it."
"Thank you." Chat Noir said softly.
They spent the rest of lunch talking on the phone, even sending pictures of their food to each other (Chat's limp salad made her take a bunch of mental notes to take him some pastries next patrol). On the way to school, as she walked to the classroom, they kept talking. She could hear Chat getting on a vehicle (a bus?) and when he got to school, she was disappointed he had to hang up. After Marinette clicked the end call button, the first thing she noticed when she looked up was Alya's smug face and Nino's confused one.
"Wow, does my bro have some competition, dude?" Nino said. "You spent the entire break talking."
"What? No, that was just a friend!"
"Yeah, a friend." Alya sing-songed, making her face heat up.
"Yeah." Marinette said firmly. "There's no competition for anything."
"Who's competing?" A sweet voice asked from behind her and she jumped.
"Adrien!" She shouted, scrambling. "N-nothing hehe."
"Dude!" Nino smiled. "How was your lunch?"
Adrien smiled, brightly. "The best I've ever had."
Marinette felt inclined to agree.

Found something in my old sketchbook-
Tumblr media
"Think I'd rather wait for him forever, instead of having him just for now."
Ladybug reminiscing Chat Blanc while Chat Noir just casually professing his love for her lmao. Time to write more Ladynoir angst for Ladynoir July 😂

Ladynoir July Day 30 - Rose
This story is part 5 of a series: a sequel to my Marinette March, Adrinette April, Marichat May, and Ladrien June stories; I highly recommend reading those first.
You can also read this story on AO3: Hurricane
---
“It’s not too late,” Émilie said. “You could join me, Adrien. We could save your father together.”
Snake Noir shook his head. “You know that I can’t do that. You don’t know what could happen if you make another wish. It could destroy the whole universe!” he cried out. He just didn’t understand why she couldn’t understand.
It made him wonder how his mother had ended up dead from the Peacock miraculous in the first place. Right now she was trying to toy with magic that she didn’t understand. She had probably been doing the same thing then. Death would be enough to deter most people, but in retrospect it didn’t surprise him that his mother was more stubborn than most.
“That won’t happen. I know what I’m doing,” Émilie said confidently. The color was high in her cheeks, giving her complexion a pleasant tinge of rose. But it was her eyes that drew Snake Noir’s attention. He had never seen his mother’s familiar blue eyes look so wild.
Or maybe a better word would be unhinged.
“Just like your husband knew what he was doing?” Ladybee said, and Snake Noir glanced over at her in surprise, but he couldn’t blame her for speaking up. The comparison was apt.
When he looked back at his mother, it was to find Émilie staring at Ladybee with a look of what could only be described as pure, unmitigated hatred. It was the sort of look that couldn’t even be matched by someone like Lila. No one had ever looked at Ladybee like that before, and it made every protective instinct in Snake Noir’s body surge to the surface.
Because he had the sudden thought that he might be able to guess why Émilie was so confident that things were going to work out her way. Maybe Émilie was thinking that she needed to offer up a trade for Gabriel’s life. A random wish might be dangerous, but a direct trade? That was totally different territory and meant that whoever was making the wish had a lot more control.
Snake Noir had no idea whether that was possible. Certainly, Master Fu had never talked to him about the power of the Ladybug and Black Cat miraculouses at all. And if Ladybee knew, she had never bothered to pass that information on to him.
But in the end, it didn’t matter whether it was true.
It only mattered what Émilie thought was true, and what she planned to do with that information. If her plan was to sacrifice Ladybee for Gabriel, and Snake Noir was pretty sure that he’d guessed right, then Émilie had another thought coming. He was never going to let that happen.
“Don’t talk about my husband,” Émilie hissed at Ladybee. “You don’t know anything. You’re just a foolish child who is leading my son astray.”
“Don’t talk about her like that!” Snake Noir snapped, taking a step forward and slightly in front of Ladybee. He couldn’t bring himself to ask if what he was thinking was true, because he was pretty sure he already knew the answer and he didn’t want to hear it.
“It’s the truth! Adrien, what happened to you? You used to be my sweet little angel,” Émilie said, her voice suddenly soft and coaxing as she turned back to him. It was incredible how quickly she could change her tone and stance, like someone had flipped a switch. It made him think that she wasn’t being sincere; she was just trying to manipulate him.
Snake Noir squared his shoulders and held up his baton, looking her in the eyes. Coldly, he said, “No more. You can hand over the Ladybug and Black Cat miraculouses peacefully, or we can take them from you. The choice is yours.”
He yearned for her to suddenly change her mind.
But Émilie’s face hardened, all the affection draining out of her expression, and she said, “Fine, then. Be that way. You’re making a mistake, Adrien, but I suppose that the time with your father has made you a little wild. If you want the miraculouses back, you’re going to have to come and take them.”
“Gladly,” Snake Noir hissed.
Ladybee slowly began swinging her yoyo in a concentrated circle.
Quickly, before anything else could happen, Snake Noir reached down and flicked the Snake miraculous to activate it. At the same time, he murmured, “Second Chance.”
A familiar tingle ran through him. They now had five minutes.
Or as many ‘five minutes’ as it took.
