8 Keys from Patriots last-second loss to Raiders
Tumblr media
Four months removed from joint practices and the preseason finale, Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels and a long line of connections met again at Allegiant Stadium. The Las Vegas Raiders outlasted the New England Patriots there on Sunday, 30-24, after a toe-dragging touchdown gave way to a lateral and a recovery for another as time expired. Here’s a glance back as the AFC East visitors return home with a 7-7 record and dwindling wild-card playoff hopes.
Jones goes 13-of-31 passing as New England’s No. 1 wideout returns
New England’s first drive featured a first down. The next drive spanned seven minutes before ending at the goal line as a timeout and a false start both wiped out six. And the next brought an overthrow, a delay of game, a drop and a punt. Mac Jones finished 13-of-31 passing for 112 yards on Sunday. But the sophomore quarterback had his top wide receiver back in the route tree. The presence of Jakobi Meyers, who missed consecutive starts while in the NFL’s concussion protocol, led to two drawn penalties as well as pivotal moments for both sides in the final frame. One catch for 39 yards set up a two-point conversion and a 24-17 lead over Las Vegas that soon became 24-24. And yet a backwards pass at midfield set up the difference. Former Patriots first-round pick Chandler Jones picked the football up from 48 yards away as time expired in regulation.
Barmore back into the pass-rushing rotation against Carr
As offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn headed to injured reserve on the eve of the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, defensive tackle Christian Barmore returned from it. Another layer of pass rush was the result on Sunday. The 2021 second-round pick out of Alabama checked in by the second snap of the Raiders’ opening drive. From there, he had a hand three tackles, a penalty-negated hit as well as a sack split with the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Fellow defensive tackles Lawrence Guy and Davon Godchaux shared the first sack. But the pressure that didn’t hit home left a mark. That was illustrated on zone blitzes. That was illustrated as defensive backs fired from the slot on third downs that became incompletions. And that was also illustrated as outside linebacker Josh Uche bent by left tackle Kolton Miller on a takedown by inside linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr went 20-of-38 passing for 231 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. His final throw went to wide receiver Keelan Cole. From 30 yards out, and after further review, it tied the game at 24-24 with 32 seconds left in regulation. Read the full article

Estevez’s ‘The Public’ is a compelling drama for librarians and library lovers alike
Tumblr media
Courtesy of a review on Medium by Oleg Kagan of the film
In the late afternoon of April 14, 2019, I went to the Charles Theatre in downtown Baltimore after going to a retirement party for an old friend and saw The Public, an independent film written and directed by Emilio Estevez, son of Martin Sheen and brother of Charlie Sheen. I came in very skeptical, as I had heard murmurs on Twitter from fellow librarians that the film was overly-hyped and not as good as reviews made it out to be, perhaps in line with those who said the film could have benefited from refinement. The same was reflected in Anthony Lane’s mixed review of the film in The New Yorker, saying he cannot fault the film’s motives because “library services in the United States are under strain and threat, and homelessness is a scar upon the body politic,” but further says that “collectors of awkward white-savior scenes can add this one [film] to their stash.” I later learned that Estevez argued that his film would “remind people just how vital and important libraries are,” inspired by an article in LA Times by a retired librarian of Salt Lake City, Chip Ward, in 2007, arguing, as Estevez described it, that “libraries have become de facto homeless shelters and how librarians have become de facto social workers and first responders.” That article by Chip Ward, lead Estevez to dig into the library world and think of a possible story. In his view, he hopes the movie shows that libraries are not antiquated institutions, with librarians as “the first Google,” highlighting forgotten people in society (the homeless) and how far they will go to “demand human dignity.” With this, I’m not surprised to learn that libraries in Charleston and elsewhere, held showings of the film.
After watching the full movie, I was surprised what an effective drama it was, and perhaps one of the best portrayals of public libraries (and libraries) in general on the silver screen in years. Perhaps this is no surprise because this film has a “knockout cast of Hollywood talent.” The plot of this film, set in Cincinnati, is simple. There are frigid temperatures every night and homeless patrons go into the main branch of the Cincinnati Public Library in order to use its services and stay warm. Estevez plays a librarian, as does Jena Malone, while Jacob Vargas plays the library’s head of security, and Alec Baldwin plays an ineffective crisis negotiator. Christian Slater plays a local district attorney, Taylor Schilling plays a manager of the apartment where Estevez’s character lives, Jeffrey Wright plays the head librarian, Richard T. Jones plays the chief of police, and Gabrielle Union plays a local reporter. Among the homeless patrons, there are actors Michael K. Williams, Bryant Bentley, Ki Hong Lee, and Michael Douglas Hall most prominently. While this panoply of character leads to a few side-stories, they soon merge into one single plotline near the film’s beginning. It is then that the conflict that will last the rest of the film begins with male homeless patrons (some with mental illnesses) making their move: they engage in a sit-in and occupy the third floor of the library as an emergency homeless shelter, with Estevez and Malone barricaded inside with them.
Throughout the course of the film, the importance of the library is made clear to the audience. The “heroes” like Jeffrey Wright’s character, defend the importance of the library against the “villains,” like those characters portrayed by Alec Baldwin and Christian Slater, giving speeches to that effect, literally. At the same time, Gabrielle Union plays a reporter who likes to whoop up stories for her own benefit, having a selfish agenda just like Slater (who is running for mayor), Slater’s opponent (a preacher), and Baldwin (who is looking for his son). So, the media is not displayed as a bastion of democracy. Instead, the public library, which is effectively a character of its own, takes on that role, showing its continued importance.
The film, which took 12 years to get funding together for it, also does a good job dispelling common misconceptions and stereotypes about librarians. Many Hollywood films have perpetrated the latter, including the small-town librarian with spring fever in Forbidden (1932) or the spinster librarian in the alternative reality, where George Bailey doesn’t exist, in It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) to give two examples I can think of off the top of my head. For example, when Taylor Schilling talks to Estevez, she says that librarians must have a lot of time to read books (you don’t) and that librarians do “weird things,” which Estevez shrugs off. Schilling even hilariously declares that no one goes to public libraries anymore, which Estevez easily counters, debunking a common myth about libraries. For his character, he notes that his addiction was ended when he began reading books and explains the importance of being a librarian, while he is shown as a repairer of books which were defaced by bigoted individuals.
In a large part, this movie treats librarians as people who are helping those in their communities, which is clearly one of the most accurate representations to date. Librarians are clearly the “heroes” of this film and that is positive, which other films do not portray, with the focus on a male librarian rather than a female librarian as common on the silver screen. The only partial equivalent is Eric Bana who plays a Chicago reference librarian in The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009), but eventually abandons his job for love with an artist, played by Rachel McAdams.
Even so, this film has its shortcomings. Apart from the fact that the movie was not “entirely accurate” in how homelessness was portrayed as one homeless advocate in the Cincinnati area argued, in part because institutions in the area strive to have beds open for the homeless and because more of the homeless population is female than those portrayed in the film (mostly male). While you could say there are some “white savior” elements in the film, as Lane said in his New Yorker article, which I noted at the beginning of this review, more than that, this film plays into classic Hollywood archetypes: good vs. evil or heroes vs. villains, and a love story (between Estevez and Schilling), the latter which seems unnecessary to the plotline. Also, I think it is a bit unfortunate that the media is portrayed so negatively in this film, but perhaps that was supposed to represent “fake news” and changing media perceptions since November 2016. Furthermore, while I think that the case of a patron suing the library and the City of Cincinnati for ejection from the library itself has some validity, this seemed a bit overstated. Even so, there is clearly a debate in the library (and allied) community and scholarship about library rules (like the one involving body odor) to the homeless, since some are applied only to the homeless and not evenly to other patrons. Slater’s character even brings this up to Estevez in a meeting about the lawsuit (which is later settled) where he is effectively asked to resign.
In the end, despite its problems, ‘The Public’ is a compelling drama I recommend, which should be watched by librarians or library-lovers, in order to continue the discussion, not only on homelessness and mental illness but on the importance of libraries themselves.

NOTE: This was originally posted on my History Hermann blog and reposted here. Enjoy! I wrote this back in April 2019 for Book Riot but since they never sent me anything back, when I published this, I thought I might post this here. I know some have been critical of how the librarians were all white and racial (and gender) dynamics in the film, but I didn't find any reviews, at the time, that talked about that, and newer ones that talk about his focus on libraries as a central part of the film, say the film has a "subpar screenplay," is "self-righteous," or is "sincere" with a "political heart." Comments are welcome, as always!

Another article that I have to read with Google translate because English-language media does not care about female Olympians.
Russia-Ukraine conflict: How can it affect women's basketball? What Spaniards are there in both territories?
With the start of Russia's attack on Ukrainian territories, European competitions enter a territory of uncertainty before the end of the 2021-2022 season. In the absence of more information in the coming days from FIBA about its women's competitions, we review the Russian and Ukrainian teams involved in the Euroleague and Eurocup, with three Spaniards in their ranks.
Russian teams in Euroleague
UMMC Ekaterinburg (Alba Torrens, Luis Rey, and Miguel MĂ©ndez)
Located 1,819 kilometers from Donetsk, UMMC Ekaterinburg is the only Russian team with Spanish women in its squad: Alba Torrens, accompanied by coaches Luis Rey and Miguel MĂ©ndez. The almighty Russian team has qualified as first in group A, thus pairing itself with the other Russian team in the quarterfinals, Dynamo Kursk, a club located very close to the Ukrainian north-eastern border.
[Jonquel Jones, Brittney Griner (?), Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, Emma Meesseman, Alba Torrens, and Alex Bentley play for UMMC]
Dynamo Kursk
Located just 100 kilometers from the northeastern border of Ukraine and just over 400 kilometers from Kiev. Even without Spaniards in their squad, their matchup against UMMC Ekaterinburg could still put Spaniards in jeopardy, at least in terms of location. The series against Torrens' team is scheduled for March 8, 11, and 16, the second being the game in Kursk.
[Arike Ogunbowale, Natasha Howard, and Epiphanny Prince play for Dynamo Kursk]
Ukrainian teams in EuroCup
BC Prometey (city: Kamianske)
Prometey will play their next home games in Bulgaria. These have been the words of Volodymyr Dubinsky, president of the club (translated by BasketNews): "We fully understand the concern of our players, as well as each staff-member, family, and friends. We have to be more united than ever. That is why we have decided that we will prepare the BCL matches in the Czech Republic, while Americans Ariel Atkins and Joyner Holmes will join the women's team already in Bulgaria."
BC Prometey will face Turkey's Çukurova in the EuroCup round of 16.

Durante la mattinata di sabato 13 Marzo 2077 | Scale
Tumblr media

Page 4: In a recent interview, AnnaLynne McCord revealed a shocking diagnosis: for years, the 90210 alum has been battling dissociative identity disorder (often erroneously referred to as multiple personality disorder) -- she told Dr. Daniel Amen she is absolutely uninterested in shame about opening up despite the stigma surrounding mental-health issues because that's how we get to the point where we can articulate the nature of these pervasive traumas as horrible as they are -- for her part, the 33-year-old traces back her troubles to sexual abuse she suffered as a child and as had many of the 200,000 people diagnosed with DID each year, she suppressed those horrific memories and it was only within the past few years that they began to resurface, largely after she sought treatment for PTSD related to another sexual assault and she doesn't have any memories of abuse until around 5, then from 5 to 11, she recounts incidents throughout and then, when she was 13, she has a singled-out memory and it was at that age that she developed what doctors call a second personality identity: as Little Ann, the Georgia-born daughter of a pastor said she was balls to the wall, middle fingers to the sky, anarchist from hell who will stab you with the spike ring that she wears and that helped her survive her nightmarish situation -- ironically, acting created the same dynamic, making it sometimes difficult for AnnaLynne to let go of characters she'd played and all of her roles were splits but she didn't even realize she was doing it
Page 5: Jennifer Aniston wasn't exactly touched when Justin Theroux gushed about how much he still loves her in the issue of Esquire -- complaining about feeling like a hermit during the pandemic, 49-year-old Justin nearly got misty discussing FaceTiming and texting his ex, saying he cherishes their friendship and they can not be together and still bring each other joy and he'd be bereft if they weren't still in touch and he'd like to think the same for her -- but 52-year-old Jen, whose love life has been low-key since the pair's 2018 divorce, has stayed on good terms with most of her exes including Brad Pitt but doesn't want anything more than a friendship with Justin and sure, it's flattering but she's just moved on and wishes he would too, and that goes double for some of her friends who griped that Justin tried to milk Jen's connections to further his career -- in the end, Justin needs to know he's got no chance whatsoever of winning Jen back and she doesn't feel anything remotely close to passion for him anymore
* Roseanne Barr showed off her newly svelte frame on Instagram -- back in 1998, she lost 100 lbs after undergoing gastric-bypass surgery, but yo-yo'd over the next decades but now she's determined to keep the weight off by totally changing the way she eats and she's growing her own fruits and vegetables and has a whole new appreciation of food
* Five months after he entered the Federal Correctional Institution, Mossimo Gianulli finished up his stint at his plush Hidden Hills home and now, the 57-year-old, who along with wife Lori Loughlin, pleaded guilty to paying a $500,000 bribe to get their kids into USC, can't wait to get back to normal and his biggest priority, besides spending time with Lori and the girls, is to get out there on the golf course -- the designer, worth a reported $70 million, still has to perform 250 hours of community service while Lori, who finished up her prison stint in December, is chipping away at hers, doling out meals at L.A.'s Project Angel Food -- Lori and Mossimo have resolved not to dwell on the past and they want to move forward with a positive and grateful attitude
Page 6: Fans of Angelina Jolie's stunts in movies like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Mr. & Mrs. Smith are looking forward to her return to the screen as a wildfire fighter in Those Who Wish Me Dead and in the upcoming Marvel flick Eternals but 45-year-old Angie would rather be behind the camera and she explained the real reason behind her comeback is she loves directing, but she had a change in her family situation that's not made it possible for her to direct for a few years and she needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so she went back to doing a few acting jobs -- that change in her family situation, of course, is her divorce from Brad Pitt, ongoing since their 2016 split and with no bitter end in sight and it could drag on for years
* Catherine Zeta-Jones says it's no secret her 20-year marriage to 76-year-old Michael Douglas hasn't been easy and it wouldn't be normal if there weren't any ups and downs -- it's another Michael, her Prodigal Son costar Michael Sheen, who has friends whispering as both are Welsh and only a year apart, the two have been having a lot of fun shooting the serial-killer drama and they had never met before the series but they keep discovering how much they have in common -- while Michael, who has been linked with Kate Beckinsale, Rachel McAdams and Sarah Silverman, has been with Anna Lundberg for two years, friends can't help worrying because it's a little to close for comfort

Page 12: David Beckham filming a commercial for Maserati, Kaley Cuoco working out with ropes, a windswept Olivia Culpo held on tight to pup Oliver while enjoying a sunset ride aboard a boat named after her dog, Miles Teller looked both ways during a cruise in his blue Ford Bronco which is the same car he flipped in a 2016 accident
Page 13: Garrett Hedlund hit the pavement in a jog in Hollywood, Johnny Depp got behind the camera at the photocall for his film Minamata during the Barcelona Film Festival, friendly exes Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry masked up for a walk in L.A.

Page 19: With a $1400 rainbow Gucci sweater wrapped around her shoulders Selling Sunset's pregnant Christine Quinn with her dogs in L.A. -- normal, Chelsea Handler works out with her dog on her back -- not normal, Zach Braff stuck his tongue out as he took a silly selfie filming the Cheaper by the Dozen reboot -- not normal
Page 22: Fashion -- stars shine in metallic frocks -- Becky G, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Karen Gillan
Page 23: Miranda Lambert, Cynthia Erivo, Renee Zellweger
Page 26: Travis Barker didn't hold back in his birthday tribute to girlfriend Kourtney Kardashian -- sharing a series of sexy shots with 42-year-old Kourtney, including a NSFW video of Kourtney sucking his thumb and the rocker's risque pics quickly went viral, as did Kourt's TMI essay posted to her health and wellness site Poosh titled "Rough Sex: Love It or Leave It?" -- definitely leave it, if it were up to the pair's kids; 17-year-old Landon and 15-year-old Alabama, who are 45-year-old Travis' children with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, are mortified by their dad's behavior and like most teenagers, the two are active on social media and can't avoid the new couple's loved-up posts and Travis' kids are happy that he's happy, but the PDA is weird and takes some getting used to, while Travis' stepdaughter Atiana De La Hoya, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a problem as the 22-year-old posted a heart-eyes emoji -- as for spending time with Mason, 11, Penelope, 8, and 6-year-old Reign, Kourt's kids with ex Scott Disick, the pair try to restrain themselves but still the lovebirds are happily oblivious and have a hard time toning it down and Kourt and Travis are just being themselves and going with the flow; they're in love and want the world to know it
Page 27: After 10 months of dating Australian model Vanessa Valladares, Zac Efron is officially back on the market -- 33-year-old Zac called it off with the 25-year-old after things got too serious, too soon and they spent every moment together and it was too claustrophobic for him, as Vanessa, who quit her job and gave up everything to be with Zac, became a fixture on set as he worked on Down to Earth with Zac Efron and he felt guilty that she was giving up her dreams and aspirations to be with him -- despite their split, Zac, who had put his L.A. home on the market and extended his stay in Australia after meeting Vanessa, has no plans to rush back to the States because he has made a lot of friends there and feels at home
* Like many planning their vows during the pandemic, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost had to get strategic when it came to their big day -- Scarlett said they wanted it to feel like it had an intentional intimacy as opposed to being something that felt like they were restricted by all these things -- the intimate and small event the pair threw was at their $4 million Palisades, N.Y. home in October and the ultra-private pair kept their guests safe, and the guest list was tiny and it was understated but lovely, just what they wanted -- now Scarlett and Colin have settled in to married life and Scarlett and Colin both like to steer clear of the spotlight which makes them perfectly suited for each other
* Vanessa Hudgens revealed the surprising way she was introduced to boyfriend Cole Tucker, who she's been dating since November -- 32-year-old Vanessa and 24-year-old Cole met on a Zoom meditation group and Vanessa admits that the Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop is just perfect for her and Vanessa and Cole, who debuted their romance on Valentine's Day, moved their budding friendship offline after feeling sparks via the virtual meeting app and they started communicating on their own and found out they have a lot in common -- now Vanessa, who dated Austin Butler for nine years before their 2020 split, is zooming ahead and she doesn't want to rush or jinx things, but she's saying Cole could be The One
Page 28: Cover Story -- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: Twin Girls -- it was a somber, but loving occasion as the royal family celebrated the life of Prince Philip and amid the pomp and truly touching moments, like Queen Elizabeth sitting frail and alone, viewers waited to see what would happen when Harry and Prince William reunited for the first time since Harry and Meghan stepped down from senior royal duties in March 2020 and just weeks after their bombshell TV interview rocked the monarchy and tensions had been running high before the funeral, but everything went better than expected as William and Harry bonded and united in grief at the loss of their beloved grandfather, the estranged siblings along with William's wife Duchess Kate Middleton, waved away their waiting cars, opting to walk the half-mile from St. George's Chapel to Windsor Castle together and the trio chatted easily as they strolled -- back home in Montecito, Harry has been by pregnant Meghan's side around the clock making sure she takes it easy and the couple are in full-blown prep mode and Harry has been helping baby-proof their mansion and designing the nursery and Harry's been on his hands and knees making the house baby-friendly and he's got the latest, state-of-the-art safety devices installed around the pool -- Harry's promising visit with the royal family has given him one less thing to worry about, but still he and members of The Firm will always have different perspectives and after dismissing William and dad Prince Charles as trapped by the monarchy, Harry was persuaded by Kate to take the first step and she went up to Harry to suggest he have a heart-to-heart with William and their father, then she stepped back; Harry felt nostalgic being back home and it's a work in progress -- Harry made headway with his grandmother as well as he and Queen Elizabeth had a private meeting and spoke for three hours and seeing Harry's face made her smile again and Harry loves his grandmother very much and he's promised to bring his kids back to England later this year and he wants the Queen to spend quality time with them

#ayumix2020
I spent half of yesterday trying to get all my favorite YouTube rips of #ayumix2020 songs on some of my Spotify playlists. Why it took so long is because I have a MacBook from 2010 and it runs on coal. These missing songs were a bunch of my top favs so I decided to put in the time yesterday to re-rip them from YouTube and re-add them to Spotify.
I had already added these songs a couple of months ago, but then I dared to move some into other playlists and then boom, they disappeared from my phone. They played and showed up on my laptop, but for whatever reason, would not on my phone. Of course, as a lot of Spotify FAQ answers go, I was screwed. Thanks for nothing, Spotify Desktop.
I know I’m like a year late on this but some of these remixes are so freaking creative and amazing. Like you can tell when people have such an ear for music and it feeds the soul.
It was also super refreshing to hear some of Ayu’s songs with a more modern sound. While ayu-mi-x 7 aged pretty well, if you listen to any of her old ayu-mi-xes, you can really pick up on that early 2000s sound. And then some of them (especially the ones released on singles) sound like absolute noise; it makes me wonder if we even had ears back then. For some old remixes, the sound is super nostalgic and still vibe-able, but when that’s all we had for 10+ years, it’s SO NICE to hear some new takes.
I realized I tend to be partial to the remixes that aren’t techno in nature but of course I always appreciate a good house/trance/EDM remix! Below are some of my favorites, and you just might understand why I worked for 12 hours trying so hard to make these songs accessible ;)
1. LOVE ~Destiny~ (Alonso Montero Remix) - Alonso Montero This remix turns this sleeper into a cute and simple techno track, and not in a bad way at all!
2. SEASONS (Aura Qualic Remix) [Uplifting Trance] - Aura Qualic I’ll admit, I would groan anytime I saw any song from Duty or I am... show up in the hashtag, only because there are already 8294739 remixes of those songs, and I’m craving some remixes of her more obscure and overlooked albums/tracks. But this one of SEASONS is pretty damn good and well-produced.
3. kanariya - beamgame a.k.a. 8LY [Ă©itli] This version gives this song a sultry touch. kanariya is already sexy in its OG form, but this is a different sexy.
4. evolution (PHUNKSTAR Remix) - Bentley Jones Modern, well-produced, and just plain good :)
5. HANABI ~episode II~ (REMIX) - DJ cha-p I might be biased because HANABI ~episode II~ is my most favorite Ayu song ever, but damn this remix slaps.
Real Me (80â€Čs lover remix) - DJ cha-p I’m DJ cha-p’s number-one fan, I swear. I did notice the ‘80s sound was a trend among a lot of the remixes in general.
6. HANABI (Orchestra Version) - DJ 秀搉 That beginning piano is just so haunting and gives me chills. So beautiful T_T
7. SEASONS - DODOWAKA This version is so fresh and summery and such a bop!
8. Moments (Dominant Space Future House Remix) - Dominant Space I go so hard to this remix, I wish it was 7 minutes long.
9. INSPIRE (Rockabilly remix) - Hidetaka Suga OMG like I love how much this works!!!! I kind of hate it too but I LOVE IT!!!! He has a bunch of other good bluesy rock remixes, but INSPIRE is my most favorite.
teddy bear (Rock Ballad Remix)
ANGEL’S SONG (Rockabilly remix)
10. INSPIRE "KAZUKI's 90's Inspired Remix" - Kazuki Shintaku This seriously takes me back to LA Gears and Zubaz pants.
11. LyxKP
Just.... just listen.
blossom (Nostalgic 80â€Čs Italo Disco)
I am... (Flute, Piano, Strings)
Duty (Bass, String Section & Guitar)
Pride (piano sonata + choir)
vogue (Acoustic Mood)
HANABI ~episode II~ (Cello, Guitar & Piano Trio)
12. kanariya 〜おしゃれピケノăƒȘミックă‚č 〜 - Michisuke-P Another slow and sexy version.
13. BLUE BIRD (Otak’s Flashback Remix) - otak11 Out of all the throwback remixes of this song, this one is the best. I love the beginning.
14. Terminal (Orchestra) Demo - S W This version is so fucking evocative and beautiful, it works too well and drives you crazy. Ayu needs to re-record this song just like this.
15. Sean North Hearing stuff like this makes me so impressed with people. I love how someone can hear Ayu and be like, this needs Celtic flutes. It’s so creative and brings a sound to Ayu you never would hear officially.
BLUE BIRD [Celtic arrange]
fairyland [Celtic arrange]
16. M -takamatt remix- - takamatt Again: simple, modern... something nice to bob your head to.
17. is this LOVE? (Terusik Piano Remix) - Terusik I’m just happy to see this song get some love.
18. M (TTSYa REMIX) - TTSYa This was one of the first remixes I heard right after Ayu announced the campaign. It reminds me of the first part of quarantine when it was fun. So good!
19. vogue (Xelakad 20th Anniversary Remix) - Xelakad The strings part reminds me of the music on the sand levels on Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. I love it :) I also am partial to Xelakad remixes; I love his Reggaeton remix of ourselves and his Ambient mix to Two of us—oldies but such goodies!!!
20. evolution ă€œç„ă€œ (撌鱹 EPIC TAIKO REMIX) - êč€ëŒ€ì„SAMSARIDER This remix is just plain cool!
21. Voyage -Â æž—ć‹‡ć€Ș郎 I read on AHS someone saying this sounds like an anime opening and now I can only imagine it opening to some coming-of-age epic journey anime, like Demon Slayer or something.
22. Days (Lo-Fi Reggae.Ver) -Â éŸłæ„œćŠæ Ąăƒăƒłăƒ–ăƒŒă‚čタゾă‚Ș It’s just so sweet!
Honestly there are more I love, and everyone who participated did such a great job, but I’m tired LOL. I hope Ayu blesses us with ayu-mi-x 8 soon and we see some of these awesome tracks.

aesthetic: running under the rain, comfy hand-me-down boy clothes, holding a baby for the first time, seeing unexpected cats and dogs around the city, a cabin in the woods, sitting on a rock breathing the mountain air
I’m tagging @samanthacblack18 (the infamous bff), @dxrkblaze, @beevean, @ilgattopatata (and whoever else wants to I’m not sure I know 22 people I’m not scared to bother)

Ukrainian superstar Alina Iagupova led Fenerbahce to a Turkish SuperLeague Championship last year. She also won the EuroLeague regular season MVP two years in a row in 2020 and 2021. She's led the Euroleague in scoring two seasons in a row, too. She's the first non-American player to win the scoring title since Penny Taylor in 2010-2011. And she's the first European player to do it since Gordana Grubin in 2003-2004. This is the kind of company she's in as a EuroLeague scoring champion...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only 5 women have ever won multiple EuroLeague scoring titles. Razija Mujanović, Clarissa Davis, Katie Douglas, Diana Taurasi, and Alina Iagupova. Mujanovic was a 6'8" center. But the other four scoring champions have quite a bit in common. They're all big mean guards. And Alina, at 6'1" with what looks like 190 lbs of muscle... she's definitely the biggest. And if you think all that size makes her slow, think again.

This year, Fenerbahce has put together a SuperTeam. They're doing everything they can to challenge UMMC. Here's how well each competitive roster is represented in the top 15 Euroleague stats.
Avenida 2 scorers: Kahleah Copper 1st, Katie Lou Samuelson 14th 1 assister: Sylvia Dominguez 13th 1 blocker: Bella Alarie 14th Top 15 total: 4 | Top 3 total: 1
Dynamo Kursk 2 scorers: Natasha Howard 4th, Arike Ogunbowale 14th 1 rebounder: Natasha Howard 1st 2 thieves: Eva Lisec 5th, Epiphanny Prince 9th Top 15 total: 5 | Top 3 total: 1
UMMC 2 scorers: Jonquel Jones 8th, Allie Quigley 13th 2 rebounders: Jonquel Jones 6th, Emma Meesseman 15th 2 assisters: Alex Bentley 10th, Alba Torrens 12th 2 blockers: Jonquel Jones 7th, Maria Vadeeva 8th Top 15 total: 8 | Top 3 total: 0
USK Praha 2 scorers: Brionna Jones 2nd, Maria Conde 7th 2 rebounders: Alyssa Thomas 4th, Brionna Jones 12th 2 assisters: Alyssa Thomas 2nd, Teja Oblak 7th 1 blocker: Dragana Stankovic 2nd 2 thieves: Alyssa Thomas 7th, Brionna Jones 11th Top 15 total: 9 | Top 3 total: 3
Fenerbahce 3 scorers: Kayla McBride 3rd, Alina Iagupova 11th, Satou Sabally 14th 2 rebounders: Elizabeth Williams 5th, Satou Sabally 10th 2 assisters: Alina Iagupova 3rd, Olcay Cakir 5th 2 blockers: Elizabeth Williams 1st, Satou Sabally 13th 2 thieves: Alina Iagupova 15th, Elizabeth Williams 15th Top 15 total: 11 | Top 3 total: 3
With so many stars on the team, Alina doesn't need to carry the scoring burden this season. She's averaging 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. She's more than a scoring machine. She's an incredible facilitator as well. She can carry a team when she needs to but she loves to set up her teammates.
Don't be fooled by UMMC looking like a mid-level team here. They are a SuperTeam. They're such a SuperTeam that each superstar does a fraction of what they'd do on a regular team. But when the EuroLeague final four comes around, the superstars go all out and cut through everyone.
But UMMC, despite all that Russian money and all those superstars, is not a perfect system. And when UMMC faces Fenerbahce in the Euroleague final, Fenerbahce will expose that imperfection. UMMC might have Russian money, but Fenerbahce has Ukrainian legend Alina Iagupova.
I'd love to see Alina play in the WNBA. But the LA Sparks have her WNBA rights. And that's terrible.
The Sparks are the WNBA team with the worst management in the league. They also design their roster around a certain "image." And Alina does not fit that image at all. She came to Sparks training camp in 2019 which happened to be a disaster year for that disaster team. The coach, the manager, and the star player Candace Parker were all at war with each other. Alina went home because she wasn't getting payed enough to put up with that bullshit. She didn't complete her contract. So now, if she wants to play in the WNBA, she has to negotiate with the LA Sparks. Awful.
There's actually a number of international players in the same position as Alina. The WNBA is not an attractive league for foreign players to play in. Until the WNBA fixes that, it won't be the league with all the best players, just the best Americans.

Le Secret de la pyramide (1985)
Tumblr media

 I have a spotify playlist https://open.spotify.com/user/meridian-rose/playlist/3BUhlrU9LE7h0EdbtDSYZ8
which includes
We're Off to See the Wizard (Wizard of Oz) – the story begins when Bryony and Kerine, worried about the lack of water, go to visit the sorcerer who lives up on the hill
Storm (Vivaldi, Vanessa Mae) – Bryony's element is mostly water but also air; she's a storm sorceress
The Devil's Fiddler (Nick Pym) – the annual summer festival's ritual dance seals the bond between Bryony and Emeri
As Long as You're Mine (from Wicked) – with the lyrics
Say there's no future for us as a pair ...  and though I may know I don't care ... Just for this moment as long as you're mine
Bryony doubts that Emeri could ever truly love a commoner, despite his reassurances, but more pressing is the issue that he's dying and their time together is limited – though Bryony won't give up hope on that score and wants to make the most of their time together regardless.

a spotify playlist
which includes the main themes:
Big Bad Wolf (Duck Soup) for Romaine
La Vida Loca (Ricky Martin) for El
Men in Black (Will Smith) since they're field agents dealing with the supernatural
For the project overall I was stunned by "The Wolf and the Moon" (Karliene) because it has these lyrics
On a cold winter night
A wolf lay wounded and cold A fight with a bear That left him exposed He lifted his gaze To the shimmering moon And death was growing near
At the start of the novel Wolf shifter Romaine is wounded, betrayed, he believes by his partner, a Therian whose animal form is a bear.
The moon was full, a bright white against the indigo sky. Romaine lay on the grass and stared up at the cloudless expanse, struggling for breath.
His hand found the wound. When he lifted his hand to his face, his fingers were dripping with his blood.
It seemed impossible. Yet here he was, shot with silver, or on such a night he'd already be healing instead of haemorraging.
