depending on how kyoya's name is canonically spelt i like to think people spell both of his names the wrong way and he gets annoyed

YES okay i'm so glad someone else recognizes kyoya's painfully obvious pining for tamaki he is literally head-over-heels obsessed .. i have seen few men as gay as kyoya otori i'm glad someone else is acknowledging it . also he's like the one dude in the host club that i can confidently say is not attracted to women

I GENUINELY DONT KNOW HOW YOU COULD READ HIS CHARACTER ANY OTHER WAY. ouran is SO good at introducing these seemingly one-dimensional, stereotypical characters and then showing you EXACTLY WHY they are the way that they are. why they fit themselves so neatly into these little niche stereotypes and why they are so content to literally play house forever. and kyoya is no exception but his core reason for EVERYTHING he does is tamaki. it's not even his family or his position. like. maybe it started out that way. maybe he only hung out with tamaki at first because his position demanded it. but at a certain point it stopped being about calculated maneuvers for personal gain and it started being about TAMAKI. The host club gives him a vessel to prove his worth to his father, perhaps, but the true rational thinker that kyoya claims to be would have shot down such a stupid idea right away. a true rational thinker wouldn't have bothered playing house with tamaki. he would have kept him at a safe, sociable distance and used him when he needed him. kyoya did not do this. kyoya financed a fucking high school host club. kyoya responds immediately when tamaki refers to him as "mommy dearest." these are not rational responses to the situation because kyoya, crucially, LOSES ALL RATIONAL THOUGHT WHEN IT COMES TO TAMAKI. the line between what kyoya does for his own gain and what he does due to his genuine feelings is kept deliberately blurry by him because its blurry TO HIM. he doesnt KNOW why he cant quite let go of tamaki or the host club. why he reminds tamaki about the piano in karuizawa. why he makes sure tamaki takes the crown and wins the central salon. why he buys a fucking kotatsu. it's obvious it isn't about personal gain anymore but because of his upbringing kyoya doesn't have any framework to understand the concept of acting out of emotion. it was never an option for him. babygirl you are so fucking repressed <3
