Bazen sessiz kalmak istiyoruz. Herkesten uzak olmak istiyoruz. Kendimizi her şeyden, herkesten izole etmek istiyoruz. Sıkıntılarımızı, üzüntülerimizi saklıyoruz. Bazen de küçümsüyoruz kendimizi,dertlerimizi, üzüntülerimizi...

"Dünya'da bu kadar acı varken,kötülük, imkansızlık varken ben bunları mı dert ediyorum?" diye kendimize kızıyoruz.

Kimsenin acısı, üzüntüsü, dert ettikleri küçük değildir.

Yoksul biri parasızlığı dert edebilir,

Sevgisiz büyüyen biri sevilmemeyi,

Kendini yalnız hisseden biri anlaşılamamayı,

Yağmura aşık biri güneşli havaları,

Stres altında olan biri sınavları,

Bir çocuk ise gökkuşağını yakalayamamayı, yıldızları toplayamamayı...

Ama hiçbiri yok sayılamaz, küçümsenemez. Üzüntüsünü yaşamaktan utanç duyulamaz. Hepsi çok önemli. Sınavların stresi için üzülen birini de, yıldızları toplayamadığı için üzülen bir çocuğu da anlamak önemli. Ama en önemlisi bizim kendi üzüntülerimizi küçümsememiz.

Biz değerliyiz,çok değerliyiz.

Sevincimiz,

Üzüntümüz,

Sıkıntımız,

Kahkahamız,

Gözyaşımız da çok değerli.

It's been like 5 days and I'm still not over the kiss scene of 25 21. 10/10 like their shadows, the countdown, MIGHT HAVE LITERALLY BEEN THE LAST THING THEY DO AS THE WORLD ENDS, the way everyone else left to be with their families but they both stayed with each other, the aesthetic (gives me lover mv vibes) yijin's signature smile before the kiss and heedo wearing overalls (I love her overalls it's too adorable) it was just iconic honestly

Why Baek Yijin and Na Heedo do not end up together

Throughout the series Twenty-five Twenty-one, there was a subtle overhanging cloud over the protagonists' love affair. Baek Yijin's privileged past and subsequent financial collapse of the family finds him with crushed dreams, unable to continue his studies and forced to scrape together a career from whatever is available.

For a young man whose future was once secure, the primary focus of his life remains finding control of it again.

When he meets Na Heedo, the many vignettes of his time with her reveal both an affection for her openness as well as admiration for her never-say-die spirit. As he follows her rise to stardom, she becomes a source of inspiration for him to do just as well, and this is acknowledged by him many times, especially when he says "You're one of a kind".

While Na Heedo accepts his love, she turns it into the more typical scenario between a man and woman, by demanding romance. As he says in that iconic kiss scene, that he will try 'this kind of love' as well - it is obvious that it wasn't his initial interest, though he is easily led into it as befits his age and sex.

While Heedo dreams of togetherness, Baek Yijin has found a challenge - to rise as a reporter, he must necessarily spend every minute of his life towards it. And he does so, willingly, because his focus in life is still finding that elusive personal success, more than anything else, and which Heedo has already achieved. The events of 9/11 simply deliver that extraordinary situation that will justify his striving by placing it in a larger frame, as well as being the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a journalist. And he does not hesitate. He promptly moves to New York - putting the kind of distance into his relationship that makes it obvious, to Heedo that they are drifting apart. And that he does so without a word to her, without a single moment of doubt, must make it clear to her.

Above all, Na Heedo is a realist. She recognises that Yijin has finally found the path to success he was looking for, and will now devote himself to it. She takes the step of breaking off, somewhat in a huff and one-sidedly. It being her first love, no doubt it is a huge disappointment to lose out to a lover's career ambitions. But this is the Heedo we love. She understands, and she does not hesitate in taking the step that moves her forward, at the cost of that charming relationship. She is a true adult - though heartbroken. She doesn't try to hang on to him.

Twenty five twenty one is about many heartbreaks - not just the romantic one, but the aftermath of the financial crisis as well. It's a sobering event that that turns inside out the dreams of young people, forcing Ko Yurim to change citizenship, and others to give up altogether.

The chance to dream, and experience love is only a given in a financially stable world. If Baek Yijin were still affluent, he would probably be studying abroad, and wouldn't have met Heedo perhaps. Living through the financial crisis does not change but only underlines what would always have been his focus in life - achieving personal success. To many such young men, romance remains secondary, if it exists at all. Heedo chooses not to wait for him, as she understands this must be his focus above all else, always.

As a contrast, and to lessen the gloom perhaps, the series offers a second pair who get together despite a similar long distance setback - Ko Yurim and her boyfriend. Unlike the main leads, the two second leads seem to calibrate their personal ambitions, making space for a life together.

A lot has been said about the four year age gap between the main leads, but it is an inconsequential thing. Ko Yurim is also older than her boyfriend, but that never seems to obtrude on their relationship.

The serious charm of Nam Joo-hyuk, who has honed his emoting to new heights here in this series, is actually masking the ambitions of this character from the viewer, but the series is clear on delivering as much brief romance, as the inevitable sobering reality. We are never told who Heedo marries, or what happened to Yijin - did he find someone else, did he remain single. The story wasn't going there with good reason. There is no regret anywhere, as if it was simply accepted as what must be.

What remains with us, is a sense of possibilities - but we already know, most are never realised.

Perhaps, we frame that relationship in nostalgia, and look at it now and then. Perhaps, there will be a second season. ( I really hope not).

Many viewers and fans expressed their trepidation online at how it was going to end, and even that dread that it was going to end at all. I understand it. We all lived intensely through it - and it was getting as personal to oneself, as it could get. I found myself postponing viewing each episode after release for as long as I could.

I think this fear mirrors the fear of life itself ending. However much we love and hate our lives, it's that ending that we know is inevitable yet impossible to really understand.

The character of Na Heedo is the true takeaway from the makers of this series. It's her laughing and crying and screaming and grunting, all with a nerve-wracking openness and blinding emotional honesty that just opens up every possible response from within us. To see a mind all laid out, is to learn to love - like a parent, like a friend and lover. It is Baek Yijin's perspective as well. To have loved, is all there is, the sum of it.
