Karácsony másnapján, csak úgy, lazán leemeltem ezt a Haiman-Kner György által tervezett remek kiállítású szerelmetes kötetet 1938-ból, és újra meg kell állapítani, hogy Karinthy Frigyes még egy ilyen műfajban és rövid terjedelemben is mennyire zseniális és imádnivaló. <3

Újranéztem, és most egészen más volt, mint mikor először láttam a kilencvenes években. Akkor a lányok történetét mesélte el, most inkább időutazás volt.

Van egy jelenet úgy a történet háromnegyedénél, mikor Jo (Winona Ryder) a padláson felnyit egy ládát, amelyben Beth húga “kincsei” lapulnak, és eszembe jutottak a nyarak nagyiéknál. Nagymama imakönyve, amelyben apró, pasztellszínű szentképek rejtőzködtek, latin és magyar nyelvű idézetekkel a hátoldalukon, a nehéz, tölgyfa tálalószekrény, tetején a tarka üveghallal és a hozzá tartozó hatalmas dísztállal, amiben kulcsok hevertek, képeslapok kedves ismerősöktől, bőröndre ragasztható kis címkék helyekről, egy kis festett porcelán plakett Nyitráról, és  poháralátétek szállodákból, panziókból. Nem olyan söralátét jellegűek, hanem nagyon finom, dombornyomott papírból valók, aranyozott csipkés széllel. A könyves szekrény, ami apró kulccsal záródott (akkoriban nagy kincs volt a könyv), üvegezett ajtaját belülről okkersárga selyem vitrázsfüggöny takarta, hogy a lapokat ne érje közvetlen napfény, és mikor Nagypapa néha kinyitotta, érezni lehetett az öreg papír és a régi házak illatának keverékét. Volt ott domborított, festett bőrfedelű verseskötet, egy világtörténelmi enciklopédia, kézzel színezett képekkel, amelyeket pauszpapír lapok védtek. És egy apró kiadvány, Kner Izidor saját nyomdájában, néhány ezer példányban kiadott aforizmagyűjteménye. Nem tudom hova lettek. Talán nagyszüleim halála után a nagy pakolásban elkallódtak, talán el kellett adni, többé nem láttam őket.

Legjobban a papíralátéteket szerettem, elvarázsoltak. A szememet a visszafogott, harmonikus színezés, az alig észrevehető kis aranyszél, az ujjaim hegyét a dombornyomás finom hullámzása, a fantáziámat az idegen hangzású települések és szállók nevei. De a mai eszemmel legjobban a kor ritmusa hiányzik, a lassabban múló idő, amibe minden belefért: a hosszú, halk beszélgetések a házi fröccsök és citromos limonádék fölött, hallgatni a felnőtteket, és közben nézni, ahogy lassan elhúznak felettünk a bongyor felhők, a végtelenbe nyúló homokvár építés, állni a virágzó fák alatt a lehulló szirmok záporában, és elvarázsolt királylánynak képzelni magamat, nézni Nagyit, ahogy gyúrja, nyújtja, metéltre vágja és belisztezve szétszórja a tésztát, segíteni csigatésztát pöndöríteni és nudlit sodorni, a délutáni elalvások, mikor a csipkefüggönyön át láttam a fák lombjai közt átszűrődő napfényt, ami a szemközti falra is kivetítette a szélben hullámzó levelek játékának árnyait, és én egyre álmosabb lettem ebben a hipnotikus mozgásban.
