1. BLITHE Pressed Serum: Tundra Chaga source: Jolse thoughts: I would say this was my second or third favourite out of the 4 I’ve tried. It does have a slight herbal kind of scent to it and it is nourishing. A little does go a long way for this as well, but I just used it on my body as I didn’t really like it on my face. rating: **
2. Skinfood So Waterful Sun All Day Berry SPF 50+ PA++++ (50g/1.76oz) source: Jolse thoughts: I haven’t tried a Skinfood product in a long time and I’m guessing this is new. There are 3 different versions in this line but I only purchased 2 of the 3. This one was extremely liquid and came out really easily. It was nice and light and spread easily. I did not notice any white cast but I did notice that at times the sunscreen would lay more on the surface of my face rather than get absorbed. There is a light scent to it but not like your typical strong fruity scent which is what I usually find from Skinfood products. I have never used up a sunscreen this quickly before. I finished this in 73 days or about 2.5 months. rating: ***
3. The Face Shop Herb Day Cleansing Tissue (70wipes) source: Nature Collection thoughts: I don’t know what more can I say about these. They just work really well for me. rating: *Holy Grail*
4. MediFlower Hand Skin Care Clinic: Oatmeal (80g/2.7oz) source: PinknBlossom thoughts: This was good but not the best. It is moisturizing when you put it on but I find that it goes away quite fast and would feel a bit dry again.  rating: **
5. Anua Heartleaf Soothing Toner (250ml/8.4oz) source: YesStyle thoughts: This was okay. I found this to be like any other toner. I didn’t find it very soothing but more so on the refreshing side, similar to if you were to splash some cool water on your face. I do like the ingredients that this product contains though. I finished this in 175 days, or 25 weeks, using it every morning. rating: ***
6. L’Occitane Extra Gentle Soap (100g/3.5oz) source: L’Occitane thoughts: This was a nice and gentle soap as it claims to be, with a soft perfume scent. I really enjoyed using this. rating: ***
7. Skin & Lab Medicica Clear Spot Gel (15ml/0.5oz) source: YesStyle thoughts: This does a good job at soothing the troubled area. I did see a reduction of redness when I applied it. It works but not a big fan of the packaging as the sticker is peeling off the tube as you squeeze it more. I think this is comparable to the Teca cream that Wishtrend use to sell. rating: ***
8. dear, klairs Toner mate 2 in 1 cotton pad (120pcs) source: Wishtrend thoughts: I’m not a big fan of these but I do like the compressed cotton pads as they are good to do a spot/quick mask sheet using your essences, although I rarely did that. I also like that the compressed cotton pad is strong and doesn’t tear easily. The sponge cotton pad is also nice, sort of similar to the Japanese cotton pads that I love, but these are not as strong as the Japanese ones. rating: ***

What is vegan yogurt starter made of?
Tumblr media
The market is expanding rapidly; in fact, certain predictions (Bloomberg Surveillance 2015) based on market analysis suggest that turnover may surpass 26 billion dollars in 2023.
One of the culinary products made from the most popular vegetable milk in the world is the so-called soy yogurt. Yes, it’s wholesome, moral, and delicious, but how much does it go for? Soy yogurt is actually rather expensive, especially if it’s organic; single servings may cost upwards of 7 euros per kilo. This makes it a decision that’s undoubtedly sustainable for the environment and animals but not always so sustainable for everyone’s wallets.
Homemade soy yogurt is quickly revolutionary in this regard, costing only 7 euros as opposed to 2 euros (if you purchase organic soy beverage) or even only approximately 1 euro if you produce your own soy milk from soybeans.
In addition to saving money, self-production is also better for the environment because it eliminates the need for plastic containers for packaging. However, even though we try to recycle these containers properly, the industry itself currently does not support this option due to the higher costs.
Heat 1-2 quarts of non-dairy milk to 110°F.
Plant-based yogurt will generally not thicken on its own. To make a thicker yogurt, stir 2 teaspoons of calcium-activated pectin and calcium water into your milk and heat to 140 degrees. Cool to 110 degrees before adding the culture.
Add 1 packet of yogurt starter and mix thoroughly.
Pour the mixture into the culturing container.
Cover and culture at 108-110°F for approximately 6-8 hours in a yogurt maker or similar appliance.
After 8 hours, place a tight lid on the container and let it cool for 2 hours at room temperature.
Refrigerate for at least 6 hours before eating.
It’s crucial to first comprehend what a “starter” is. Simply said, the starter culture is just bacteria. It is devoid of components like milk. However, a medium must be used to grow the bacteria, and that medium is frequently dairy. Since the bacteria or starter is totally eliminated from the medium before usage, this won’t be a concern for the majority of people who consume little or no dairy. However, if you have a severe milk allergy, are worried about traces of dairy, or are fully vegan and want to make sure no dairy was used in the product’s production, seek a dairy-free or vegan label. Then, contact the manufacturer to ask about their manufacturing procedures.
Why even add the starter, one may ask? The probiotics, or beneficial bacteria, that give yogurt its distinctive tang are part of the starter culture. Even though lemon juice, which is tart and acidic, can be used to make a counterfeit yogurt, it won’t have a significant amount of beneficial bacteria.
To start a batch of homemade yogurt, you can use any one of these three items:
Another Yogurt – One yogurt can actually serve as the beginning for another batch. Store-bought yogurt will also work if you’ve never made your own. The market is already flooded with dairy-free yogurt brands, including those made from coconut milk, almonds, oats, soy, and rice. Despite the fact that they can be pricey, you only need one to start your first batch. You may then easily save a small amount of yogurt from your initial batch and use it as a starter for the subsequent batch. Even if you use one of the other two starter options for your first batch, this approach still works nicely.
Starter Culture – Yogurt starters are genuinely for sale. Dairy-free products like Ther-Biotic (from Klaire Labs) and Tradition Probiotics are promoted. I use the Ther-Biotic brand; you can read about their hypoallergenic policy here (it is said that they do not utilize dairy products in the production of their probiotics). Naturally, you should always confirm any changes to ingredients or manufacturing methods with the manufacturer.
Probiotic capsules – Many probiotic brands are available as capsules. Simply crack open the capsules and add the contents to your yogurt to serve as a starting culture. Probiotics are again just bacteria that have been separated from their “host,” which may be a milk-based substance. However, if avoiding dairy is a top priority, look for products marked as “vegan” or “dairy-free” and carefully check the manufacturing procedures with the supplier.
With 10 pouches and 3 grams of culture in each pouch, Euro Cuisine All Natural Yogurt Culture/Starter is the perfect starter kit for making delicious and nutritious yogurt at home. You may make a smooth, creamy, and delicious yogurt using this French product. It is also Kosher-certified, making it acceptable for those who must follow a strict diet.
Making genuine Bulgarian yogurt at home is simple using Natural Probiotic Yogurt Starter Cultures. These freeze-dried culture sachets work well with whole milk and all types of yogurt makers. ”Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus” and ”Streptococcus thermophilus” are among the pure blend of live active bacteria included in each sachet. One sachet makes one quart of somewhat tangy, re-cultivable plain yogurt that can be consumed right away. The cultures are created in a lab setting free of chemicals, maltodextrin, gluten, or genetically modified organisms. Natural Probiotic Yogurt Starter Cultures provide a practical and wholesome method to enjoy homemade yogurt and are suitable for vegetarians and people on the SCD diet.
You can quickly manufacture your own plant-based yogurt at home using the Cultures for Health Vegan Yogurt Starter. For those who are just starting out or who prefer a low upkeep solution, this direct-set culture is ideal. You can save time and work by only having to cultivate it once. It’s not only less expensive to manufacture up to 4 gallons of non-dairy yogurt at home than to buy it, but it also allows you the freedom to choose the non-dairy milk of your choice. It’s possible to make delectable and creamy yogurt drinks whether you like soy milk, almond milk, or oat milk. Additionally, this vegan yogurt starter is pathogen tested to ensure safety and is loaded with probiotics to support digestive health, so you know you’re getting a high-quality product.

Ok Amazon, you want me to write a review for this Klaire Labs multivitamin? Here you go:
When this disgusting smelling, vile tasting vitamin isn't making me nauseous, burp up the horrific aftertaste every couple of minutes, and making Lemon Lime Gatorade out of my urine, it's causing painful, heinously frothy diarrhea. If this sounds like something you need in your daily routine, then by all means purchase these overpriced capsules.

Feeling Fatigued? A Vitamin B12 Deficiency May Be the Culprit
Tumblr media
It's normal to feel tired sometimes. Managing work, family, and social commitments can be exhausting. But when day-to-day tiredness turns into debilitating fatigue, it's time to make a change. If you're missing out on plans and events because you feel foggy, and no amount of sleep makes you feel rested again, you may have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Read more about the symptoms, diagnosis, and remedies for a B12 deficiency and see how adjusting your levels could change your life for the better.
What is vitamin B12? "B12 plays a vital role in metabolizing fat, protein, and carbs into energy,” says Fred Pescatore, MD. And it works in tandem with the B vitamin folate to make healthy red blood cells that transport energizing oxygen through the body, so it makes sense that when you're low on this vitamin, you're low on power. According to WebMD, normal B12 levels are between 190 and 950 picograms per milliliter, but your doctor may do extra testing if your levels are between 200 and 300, since those are considered to be borderline low levels.
Who is at risk for B12 deficiency? B12 deficiencies are common in women over 50, suggests a Tufts University study. But some women have genetic variations that impede the conversion of B12 into its active form; plus, drop-offs in stomach acid that occur after age 50 can impair B12 absorption. So even if you supplement, it may not lift B12 levels. The result? Fatigue, fog, and more. Complicating matters: Even women without the genetic glitch can fall short in B12 if they adopt a strict plant-based diet. In fact, research in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds that plant-based plans raise the risk of B12 deficiency.

How do I know if I have a B12 deficiency? Blood tests can measure B12. But the tests can produce false results, and as Dr. Pescatore notes, levels many doctors consider normal can produce symptoms. His advice: Ask for tests that measure homocysteine and methylmalonic acid, substances that rise in the blood when B12 is low. If either is low, the steps below can help.
How can I raise my B12 levels? Taking supplements can lift energy in four weeks. Dr. Pescatore’s advice: Each day, take 2,000 mcg. of sublingual methylcobalamin, which delivers B12 via blood vessels under the tongue, and 1,000 mcg. of methylfolate, a form of folate that’s readily used by the body. Try Solgar Sublingual Methylcobalamin (Buy from Amazon, $7.49) and Klaire Labs L-Methylfolate (Buy from Amazon, $22.49). Diet changes can also help. Dr. Pescatore advises scaling back on sugar, which depletes B12. Also smart: Enjoy foods rich in both B12 and folate, like beef, fish, shellfish, and eggs.

Tips on Korean Sunscreens
Context: the recent sunscreen controversy/scandal #skincarenews
So basicallyyy, independent lab testing exposed a few popular Korean sunscreens for not meeting their SPF ratings as labeled (Krave, Klairs, Purito, Keep Calm, etc. were all found to be lower SPF despite their labeled SPF50+ PA++++).
While the difference between 30 and 50 SPF is actually minimal in SPF world, these sunscreens tested low low low... like 19 for some which is a significant difference in terms of SPF. 😱 smh
Why it Matters
This is a huge deal because it's false advertising and a health concern. AND the nerve to say they were SPF 50+... PLUS! The plus symbol means it can be higher than SPF 50. It just allows for a margin of error per batch based on different testing methodology. Usually you need a result of at least SPF 60 in testing to earn that plus symbol. But they tested at a measly 19 loool.
And the way some of these brands handled the issue was shady and a whole 'nother topic I won't get into.
So a few tips:
1) Find a sunscreen that received independent lab testing.
AKA not tested by the manufacturer. It's likely and suspected that the brands above had their filters tested by the manufacturer and were SPF 50+ BUT then they added other ingredients like hydrators that changed the formulation and likely changed the SPF coverage in the process. Or maybe they blatantly knew it wasn't SPF 50+ and just slapped that label on cuz all the other sunscreens say it.
2) You may want to look for a sunscreen that has more than one UV filter.
All the brands that were exposed above only used one UV filter and plus other hydrating ingredients and that's why they people were all like OMG HG NO WHITE CAST FEELS LIKE LOTION
It's possible to still have high SPF with one filter but it depends on the formulation. Usually the ones that have one filter but high SPF have Zinc Oxide which can be pretty thicc or white cast-y if not formulated well.
3) You may have to compromise and accept that the formula has alcohol and/or fragrance.
It's actually very hard to elegantly formulate a sunscreen with high SPF coverage that's also smooth, hydrating, smells good, alcohol/fragrance free, and leaves no white cast.
If it feels like light lotion and doesn't have alcohol (like the brands above that were exposed), it probably has one filter and doesn't meet SPF claims like the exposed brands above.
Alcohol is not always bad in skincare -- it's used to thin out the product and sometimes needed especially when the ingredients like UV filters are thicc. Unless your skin is super sensitive to it, then it's okay!

Verified SPF 50+ Sunscreens and Sunscreens I Like
In no real particular order:
The Pure Lotus Jeju Botanical Sun Cream - Chemical sunscreen. Uses 3 filters, verified SPF testing, velvet/semi-matte finish, no white cast, cream texture, light floral-fruit scent. Uses essential oils though in case you don't like EO.
Hyggee The Real Sun Cream - Hybrid sunscreen. Uses 5 UV filters (1 physical and 4 chemical), verified independent lab SPF testing at SPF 55, semi-matte finish, no scent, no white cast, soft cream texture. Although they say no white cast, I find a very sheer white cast (sheen?) that disappears very quickly. Current favorite. This was JUST released to the Korean market so it's new! (Not to be confused with their other sunscreens, one of which was called out and taken off the market for not meeting SPF claims in testing).
And you can get 35% off until 5/25/2021.
*Disclaimer - I work PT at BMK. But I don't make any commission from this. I truly am just passionate about skincare and wanted to share. Also, it's a start-up and among all my friends, for some reason only my tumblr friends have bought from us... none of my IRL friends have. lol.
Thank You Farmer Watery Sun Cream - Chemical sunscreen. Widely known to have met their SPF ratings in independent labs at like, SPF60. Watery gel-like texture and dew/glow finish. The fragrance is strong with this one so I'm not a fan but I know a lot of people like it. I also prefer matte/semi-matte finish. Although we may curate this too, I prefer the above sunscreens.
Honorable Mentions:
Cell Fusion C Derma Relief Sunscreen - Physical sunscreen. This big medical skincare brand has a good reputation in Korea and dermatology clinics use their products on clients. I'm not sure if they received independent lab testing but I still trust their SPF claim or if it falls short I'm pretty sure it would be at least SPF30. They have a whole bunch of different sunscreens for different skin types and concerns, but this particular one has one UV filter but it's Zinc Oxide.
Torriden Dive In Daily Suncream - Physical sunscreen. Love this one for a physical sunscreen! However, they have not published independent lab testing. I think all the Korean brands right now are scrambling to get their lab testing done right now. So I'd wait on on statements before recommending this. But I love how it feels so mentioning it here.
Roundlab Birch Sunscreen - This was reformulated after being exposed in the sunscreen SPFgate scandal. The reformulated version passed the independent lab testing. Haven't tried it yet though. But they sell this at Olive Young and it's pretty popular here in Korea.
