Kirby and the Forgotten Lore: My take on KatFL’s relevance to the Kirby timeline.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, obviously.

Now that that’s out of the way, let me explain why I’m making this post. The general community census about the Forgotten Land seems to be that this world was where the Ancients originated; that they were the ones who experimented on ID-F86, whose powers then became the basis of the amazing technology we’ve seen from them. That the Ancients were the ones who left this world behind, to then establish themselves as that famous interstellar society.

To put it nicely, I find this theory incredibly weak and uninspired. Respectfully.

Here is why: The Ancients, presumably, have their name for a reason. Their culture rose to power a long time ago, then stayed in power for long enough to become as legendary as they are today, and then fell; so long ago that in modern times, they are only referred to as ‘the Ancients’ anymore. For something on such a grand scale, I would expect each of these intervals to have lasted several thousands of years at least. Likely much longer than that though, since many creatures in the Kirby universe seem to have freakishly long lifespans.

The ‘Forgotten Lands’, on the other hand? They look like they’ve been abandoned for a few decades at most. Just look at this place-

Sure, it's a little dirty and overgrown, but for the most part, everything in this world is still very intact. The buildings are still standing, their furniture is still there. Machines like cars and light switches are still working just fine. The water pipes are still intact. There's even still paper in many locations.

Paper! Which is always the first thing to rot. Any sort of moisture and humidity will do it in very quickly, as I'm sure you're aware. Yet here it is, looking quite alright still.

I feel like even just a few decades are already a far too generous estimate of how long this place has been abandoned; if I really look at this world, it feels like it can't have been left alone for much longer than a few years. But I'm willing to suspend my disbelief a little bit.

But not to the point where I can look at this world and confidently go "yep. These people left here, founded a civilisation somewhere else, then became highly advanced and legendary, then sealed away a god-like entity, then had a civil war and died out, and then became known as 'the Ancients' - all in the span of just a few years! Sounds legit!"... Just. no. Unless time travel was also involved, I absolutely refuse to accept this theory.

So let me offer you an alternative theory: instead of the people of the Forgotten Land inspiring the Ancient tech... What if the Ancient tech inspired them?

I know you want this game to be very important to the lore, and trust me, so do I - but maybe that's just not meant to be. This theory of mine will still tie it into the existing timeline and lore quite neatly - just not in a quite as important way as the origin of the Ancients would've been. But please. There are countless highly-advanced civilisations in the Kirby universe. Not all of them have to be directly related to the Ancients, even if they do use warp technology. Let me remind you that one of the most prominent items at Kirby's disposal is quite literally called the Warp Star - I don't think warp magic/technology is all that uncommon in this universe. It's very unlikely that they're all linked back to the same source.

Anyway, on to my actual theory.

When you enter Lab Discovera and ride the elevator, the tour guide gives you a nice little introduction into the history of ID-F86. How it arrived on the planet. How it was captured, and studied. How, at one point, an incident occured, one that caused our friend Elfilin to separate from the creature's main body.

"However, 30 years after our research began, a 'warp-experiment incident' occured in this facility", the narrator says. Very interesting. She doesn't go into any more detail, but this particular line reminded me of another piece of lore we've seen before. This one, from Planet Robobot.

When she was a child, a somewhat similar incident happened to Susie Haltmann. We don't know any details about this occurrence either, but we know that the Mother Computer - also known as Star Dream, a recreation of the Ancients' clockwork star Nova - was capable of creating wormholes of incredible power. We see this when it summons Galacta Knight in the Meta Knightmare bonus mode.

However, it also mentions that this particular action was specifically prohibited by its previous admin, Mr. Haltmann himself - perhaps because it was this function that caused Susie's loss in the first place?

We don't know exactly how old Susie is - she looks quite young, but she's also not even remotely human. So if we assume that her species ages as slowly as many of the other sentient species in the Kirby universe, these two "warp-experiment incidents" could very well line up with each other. They could very well be one and the same.

In other words, my theory is that the same incident that created Elfilin also brought a young Susie to the Forgotten Land. A young Susie, who, despite her age, had clearly been quite involved in the construction of Star Dream, and had a lot of knowledge to share. She must've been fiercely intelligent even back then.

Susie, who at some point inexplicably reappeared in Haltmann's company. Almost as if the place she had been sent to as a child had finally mastered the same warp technology that removed her from her reality in the first place, allowing her to return.

If you would like further proof, just compare Star Dream and the Eternal Capsule that was later constructed to house ID-F86. They look quite similar - almost as if they were based on the same concepts. Sure, it could be a coincide, but when it comes to HAL, few things ever are.

Yes, the central tube is a little wider, but it has that same flared out top, that same slanted pedestal. It feels like a similar type of technology to me - perhaps inspired by what Susie might have remembered about Star Dream's blueprints. Isn't it strange that this "Eternal Capsule" seems so much more high-tech and advanced than anything else we find in this world? It certainly seems strange to me. Almost as if it wasn't their own technology in the first place!

And then there's the tour guide herself - to me, the way she was speaking about ID-F86 felt eerily similar to the way Susie was talking about Meta Knight after she had modified him against his will and turned him into Mecha Knight, her own little roboticised servant. Both of them spoke with such carefree flippancy, with such utter lack of care or empathy for the sentient, suffering being they were experimenting on - like they were just tools to be used and exploited at will. If this was the culture Susie ultimately grew up in, that would certainly explain why she ended up being Like That.

So then what? 30 years after this warp-experiment incident (I assume they would've kept updating the time on their tour audio guide otherwise, since the Lab seems like quite the important place), the people who once called this planet home mastered their new technology and left the planet for a "land of dreams" - perhaps that was actually Dreamland, as the community was quick to assume, or perhaps it was a more literal dream world, akin to ID-F86's own Forgo Dreams. Perhaps if Susie really was among them, some returned to Haltmann Works alongside her. I can't say.

Regardless of where they actually went though, I don't think it happened very long ago. Everything they left behind is still in remarkably good condition. But whoever they were, I'm quite certain that they weren't the Ancients, or their ancestors. And I'll remain firm on that stance; unless Fecto Elfilis suddenly turns out to have time travel capabilities, I just don't think this lost civilisation is as relevant to the big events of the Kirby timeline as the community hopes it is. Sorry.

it's based off the only fic i've ever posted & how i headcanon'ed that a heavy metal object SLAMMED into her head as a child (ouch...) which was how she got sent into the another dimension in addition to the space-time transport program going haywire (i imagine she wouldn't just fall into a dimensional rift without a fight, even if she was just a child when it happened)

How do you think they will do Fecto Elfilis in the novel?

(Unrelated: I’m going to try and clear out my inbox of asks over the next few days and so I may be posting some things out of order because certain asks - like explaining my Gryll HC - take longer to assemble than others.)

How do I think they will do Elfilis in the novel?

Vague. Very vague. They seem to be, for the most part, told in a perspective that aligns most closely with Kirby's own perspective. Thus, if Kirby has no deep introspection on the subject, there probably won't be anything added in its place.

The Resident Evil-esque hallway chase with Fecto Forgo will probably be trimmed down, somewhat. Full of Kirby going "Awah wah wah!" as he looks around for anything to copy, before coming up with something clever - or being bailed out by Elfy or Bandanna Waddle Dee.

There may be a verrry brief nod to the fact that Fecty absorbed other beasts, but I doubt we'll get full on horror-style descriptions of multiple faces emerging from the goop before being consumed again.

There'll probably be a bit of back and forth between Kirby and a Fecto-possessed Leongar that may add a line or two in there, or it may be a full on recap of the original speech. And surely there will be some mention of Elfilis and Elfilin being similar.

What we might get (that would certainly be interesting/informative) is more combat dialogue from Elfilis, where we otherwise had none. It would be great to know if Fecty is all driven by malice toward their tormentors, or if they came out of there with a superiority complex. Or maybe they're fighting entirely with anger derived from the trauma of their imprisonment.

It's probably going to be subtle though.

If it's a straight adaptation, I don't think we'll hear a lot of sympathetic things about Fecty from either Elfilin or Kirby going into the final fight, as even in game, the focus was much more on the bond Kirby and Elfy share. Neither of them are going to stop and say "Elfilis is about to destroy Popstar using the Roche limit, but they must be really upset about the decades of lab experimentation too!" Our only chance for a sympathetic Fecty portrayal (or even a rounded one) would be if they novelize the Chaos Elfilis stuff which....hmmm.

...They couldn't really novelize it the way it appears in game, because no one REALLY goes to an arena to fight a canonical secret boss. Further, that means including Morpho in there too, which is just too much stuff for one book. They could include the C. Elfilis resolution scene elsewhere but it's gonna take some rewriting.

Regardless, Fecto Elfilis is a boss who is scary in concept, but not all that scary looking. (Outside of the Fecto Forgo goop.) I expect the narration to treat them as some kind of mysterious, unknowable creature whose motives we may never know, rather than a big scary monster. (Even if WE the readers have a good idea of their motives.)

Prince Fluff's Father

Okay, so you guys can keep reading if you want spoilers, but.. if you guys wanna put in any, guess feel free.

But believe it or not, I have mentioned Prince Fluff's father 2 or 3 times before... you guys just didn't know it.

I may not have the event play out exactly like this (have Falspare less angry), but... Prince Fluff... is the son of the FISHER KING! Believe it or not, I planned this plotline ever since I introduced the Fisher King into the story.

Kirby and the gang aren't going to see Fluff any differently but Falspar...

Ya'know like Fishnet (cloth)- Fisher...

Yeah, I know far far-fetched connection but bear with me! This is just my way of connecting the game lore is to mix it with Arthurian lore, there are a few more surprises but the ones I have on the list.

Ribbon & Ripple Star's connection (Morgan Le Fay/ Dame Morgan)

Epic Yarn/ Prince Fluff's Connection (the Fisher King/ Fluff's father)

Planet Robobot Susie Haltman (Sir Icarus)

You know just enough to spook Falspar and make him wince and make him think it's the Fisher king at first glance.

After the whole incident (also mentioned here)... this was awake up call to the Fisher King. (I don't know whether to change his name to something else or keep him with a name.)

He magically isolated his planet, locking away Patchland and separating it from the galaxy & the war. (Also, so he can escape Uther's wrath for pulling away his support; so yeah all of that blame and anger went to Falspar.)

Basically, the land that suffered was not Patchland but the galaxy... Being cut off from the biggest source of good, destroying the galaxy's economy.

The Fisher King did do the work and eventually did become a better person... In a sense, the Pathland, (while still wealthy & stable in his rule) still suffered deeply inside. Tolling away regretting his actions...

A part of him does want to rejoin the galaxy, but he's too afraid that people will still see him as the man he was... the fear and shame kept him away from it all... Everyone!

He put the well-being of his kingdom and his people first... they loved their king. Patchland was prosperous and thriving while their king suffered in silence. He'd put on a smile and watched on in the shadows... Denying himself the love of his people and the fruits of his labor... (Basically, he was punishing himself for years...)

Until a certain, (Fluff's mom) had broken through the barrier by mistake... I have a cute love story planned out for them, but yeah, she was the only one who saw the king's hidden sadden.

Fluff's mom: Why do you suffer?

FK: Because I was a terrible man... I deserve to suffer.

Fluff's mom: Are you the man you were before.

FK:No... I uh-

Fluff's mom: Then why should you suffer?

Basically she's the one who "freed the Fisher King"

Yeah, long story short they fell in love, got married, and had Fluff... You're probably asking "Wait, hold on a minute didn't the Fisher King receive an injury that left him impotent." (unable to have children)

Yes, that is true... which is why he sought out a certain Yarn Wizard: *cough* Yin-Yarn! Who was able to magically create a son for him that was biologically his & his wife's. Giving her the child she's always wanted...

And the Fisher King... WAS THE BEST FATHER TO FLUFF! And loved him so much... He prepared him for the outside world. And told him of the man he was, before... regardless Fluff loved, respected, and adored his father dearly and never saw him differently.

Having a family gave him a newfound purpose in life... and gave him the confidence to return to the outside- Oh no, tragedy sets in... he falls ill (and slowly starts to lose his mind... the only thing he could remember was his wife & son.)- the price he had to pay for Fluff's birth... but he did not regret it at all.

Resulting in his wife & son having to see him lose his mind and his life fade away... bedridden. But all his plans to rejoin the galaxy and the GSA remain untouched... ready to be used.

Basically, the Fisher King's death plays out like this...

However, even though he passes on these plans to his son he gives him the option to never use them as well... knowing how difficult it would be for Fluff... being his son.

Even telling him, "Should anyone who has any grievance with me... accept it, don't deny it, and apologize to them, alright."

The Fisher King started off as an arrogant two-faced King but died a kind and loving man... he considers Fluff his greatest achievement... and his greatest regret is not being able to see the fantastic ruler he knew he would become.

He dies leaving his wife & son to grieve... two years later Prince Fluff's mother disappears... I know it's sad.

Prince Fluff looks over these plans but isn't sure if he can do it... though after meeting Kirby the gang he feels confident enough to do it... He's just going to need their support.

I'm not gonna reveal how this goes down just yet but... Flaspar was never able to find closure with the Fisher King incident... but perhaps he can find closer with his son. (>:3)

THE FUCKING END

This game, specifically, is the prime example of 'not being what it seems.'

Kirby Star Allies' plot is simple: Unkindness is spreading through the kingdom! Defeat it with the power of love! Befriend your enemies and safe the world!

Sounds pretty lighthearted, right?

Do you want the real plot?

Kirby Star Allies starts out, immediately, with a giant purple [Jamba] heart breaking and spreading smaller Jamba hearts across the world. Whoever gets close to the hearts turns evil. Pretty simple.

But it gets worse.

Kirby traverses through his home terrain, and saves his king (After said king turned buff for some reason?). After this, he notices: A giant spaceship has landed on his planet! So he goes to traverse across the planet to get to the spaceship. Pretty simple.

But it gets worse.

Turns out the spaceship is ran by three girls based upon three elements [Ice, Flame, Spark]. They said that the Jamba Heart, and the 'dark lord' would reign. Pretty simple.

But it gets worse.

So, Kirby tries to reason with them, but the maniacal dimwit of the Spark Lady destroyed the entire thing [Called a Jambastion]. So, Kirby goes to space to chase after her and her sisters. Pretty simple.

It can't get worse.

He finds a LARGER Jambastion, with a LARGER Jamba Heart, and traverses across OTHER PLANETS to find out what's going on. He gets to the Jambastion, and finds a mini cult ran by a dude named Hyness and the girls from earlier.

There's a piece of lore not included in the game, that the girls died due to their respective elements (Frostbite, burns, lightning) and Hyness saved them. First off? There are no humans in Kirby's world. How far away do they live? And Hyness is abusive now?

Hyness claims the same stuff about the Jamba Heart, only way more in depth, in the biggest chunk of tangible lore inside of a Kirby game. In five seconds.

He goes mad, and throws his adoptive daughters, and himself, into the Jamba Heart.

THIS. GOD DANG. JAMBA HEART. TURNS INTO SOME DARK-SOULS DND MONSTER THING. I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN IT.

It's name? Void Termina. Not ominous at all! Not ominous in my silly, friendship-based, save-the-world Kirby game!

Kirby fights this thing, on a scooter I might add, and it goes down the FIRST time. The boss has 4 phases: Dark souls, 2D boss, dark souls, 2D boss.

He GOES INTO IT'S THROAT, and with the help of his friends, PULLS IT'S HEART IN TWO.

(I'm confident he could do this on his own if he had arms)

Lovecraftian horror much?! In my silly, friendship-based, save-the-world Kirby game?!

So now the giant dark souls thing is a bird?? It grew wings?? Okay, no big deal, that's the most NORMAL THING HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. It uses giant lasers and swords and axes to defeat Kirby, as if they have beef that goes back to 1987 in the bar next to work.

Turns out, they do?

This boss battle is fine in the normal game, it's very Basic-Kirby-Game-Esque. But the True Arena.

The True Arena shows the real, canon if you would, version of bosses. Thus the name.

This is a music video and the first part of the VKirby crossover project featuring characters from VShojo (mainly Ironmouse) and the Kirby series by HAL Laboratory. Please note that this crossover is non-canon and may not correctly reflect any canon details shown in VShojo lore videos and any lore material in the Kirby series (eg. pause screen special pages, Kumazaki interviews, etc.)

This scenario is what happens if Magolor is somehow diverted in his escape when an entrance to a fallen Heaven has opened up in the deeper depths of Another Dimension. Joined up by a dimension-traveling Bubi who seeks to find a helpful magician who might aid him in freeing Satanael, Magolor ventures into Heaven and follows his orders.

In this adventure, Magolor & Bubi will encounter the Seraph of Aeons - ELYSIUM, who despite being sealed away for thousands of years, has been summoned to judge Magolor for his misdeeds. (Seems pretty fishy, though.) The music video details ELYSIUM's theme song, "TRISAGION ~ Seraph omnis iudicii".

SO SORRY FOR “SOON” NIT ACTUALLY BEING SOON BUT IM HERE NOW HI!!

so Area 6 was sooo pretty!!! I loved the lvl design and also the slundtrack?? really awesome.

So the final boss...I wasnt expecting kirby of all franchises to tackle colonisation and globalisation and all that in such a not subtle way! Halltman literally calls Kirby a “filthy native”, and one of his attacks is literally throwing money and coiveinrng the screen.

Also Susie!! I was not expecting her to double cross him!! I thought she was going to be taranza 2.0 but Im pleasantkly surprised!! Also I was not expectuing her to be his daughter, though if you look at their bossfights, they are rather similar.

Haltman died and his soul was overwritten by the most technologicallt adavannced computer in the universe? No one really cares though, because hes just a chararicture of the bourgeous. I liked the heart print on star dream, its cute.

Also Meta knoight is ok!!! Its so cool how kirby literally absorbs his ship! Though it was hilarious to me because i put the shitty meta knight doodle and the nightmare sticker on the robo suit so i was laughing a lot when they appeared.

And the final boss fight!! I loved it, it reminded me of the boss fight from nightmare in dreamland!! It was very cool. Also apparently the star dream fused with the octupus ship thingy is basically a sentient planet? So kirby just defeated an entire fucking planet which is really cool!!

Final thoughts: I LOVED IT!!! REALLY FUN I cant wait to 100% it! Ive already beaten all the other minigames (just missing the true arena, its very challenging) and I just need to collect all the code cubes and stickers!!! I was a bit disappointed tho that the title screen didnt change like in triple deluxe. Still!! I think I loved it as much as I loved tripple deluxe which is cool!!

Maybe Ill talk about the amazing mirror and kirbys dreamland 2 since I havent finished those games yet:)

Welcome to the City of Sound!

I decided to do a drawing since it's been a while. I know. I procrastinate on fanfics but at least have this. Did the buildings in FireAlpaca and used Inkscape for everything else including the white jagged outlines for each building.

Drawing Kirby with the Wheel Technician Mode was painful, btw, so have him on his own:

Even after events of Planet Robobot, well, some of Popstar still got permanently mechanized. We'll get to that later, that's a story for another day as why it happened, but the thing is, after all that war, the Nullarians were basically homeless(tm).

So, at the end, they ended up staying on that permanently mechanized land. Yeah, it's a pretty small island, but they managed. They ended up turning it into Access Area, divided in areas in a similar vein to Popstar when it got mechanized, but the differences come from the names of each areas and their territory.

In the heart of the Access Area, lies Rhythm Route, the biggest area of them all. It's just the same as the old Rhythm Route, and has became a bustling city ever since, just like cities on Earth (Earth isn't important in this AU unfortunately, it's on a different galaxy altogether, but still), but more advanced. Kirby likes going there, usually to explore the urban area.

Though, he loves rollerskating in there, and fortunately, his variation of the Wheel Mode is just that. Sometimes, you can see him weaving his way in and out of smaller routes of the city, almost like a mouse...

- A fellow kirby fan who is obsessed with the lore a totally NORMAL amount

oh god there are so many moments, lore or otherwise, that i love about this franchise. but i think i can at least talk about the ones that are super notable in my mind. it's been difficult narrowing it down to one moment, so ill give u two: one involving game-wise & another involving lore.

gonna be talking about some major kirby spoilers so if you dont care about that, hit the page brake here:

ill never forget the feeling i got from playing planet robobot and it straight up turned into a better version of star fox. kirby have delved into shmup elements before but seeing that progress even further, on top of the aspects with how absolutely dramatic and intense the star dream fight was... it felt like the stakes were truly raised beyond something id ever felt from the franchise. and then, on TOP of that, going in and reading up on how tragic the backstory between susie and haltmann is..... it just cranks up the intensity 5 fold, especially if you play the soul version of the fight - with the horrifying screams of haltmann's entire personality being destroyed as kirby goes further and further into the fight. it's absolutely horrific and exhilarating. i love that fight so fucking much.

that's gameplay..... but my favourite lore moment from the franchise is everything involving void soul. it explains so much about kirby, his origins and what they are. since FOREVER that aspect of kirby been shrouded in mystery and HAL has always played relatively coy about it, but since shinya kumazaki's been at the director's wheel, ive been loving all of the bits and pieces of lore he's dropped throughout the years... and, once that final star allies DLC hit the game, it felt like the culmination of everything he's been hinting towards up to that point. shinya kumazaki has been so good for all us long-time kirby fans, i really really appreciate his work. if i may talk about it real quick: a lot of people tend to shit on star allies, but speaking honestly: ever since the updates, it has since really thrived and became something fantastic. its been a real treat! if you're watching this and somehow havent gone through most of star allies, then please give the game another shot! it's great!

First: context

TLDR: I can't fully explain without spoiling the fic(s) but both big and small changes have been made to the story/timeline! It was originally supposed to be a what-if scenario that became a whole AU. The main changes from canon are focused on Galacta, Meta, Morpho, Kirby, and a few more characters, but the fic I'm working on currently is mainly focusing on Galacta and Morpho (kinda)! There will be small ties to the Animeverse throughout this AU!

Anyway- I can't fully explain it without going into spoiler territory, but I plan on making this a multiple-fic thing! The fic I'm currently working on is mainly focused on Galacta Knight (and Morpho Knight, but mainly Galacta), it's primarily supposed to be a oneshot of Galacta's life before he got sealed, and the things that led to it. The AU technically starts with this fic, most of the games happen to be the same, except for games like Nightmare in Dream Land, Super Star (Ultra) (there are a few minor changes to this game), Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, and by extension, Kirby Star Allies, and Forgotten Land! It's also somewhat tied to the Animeverse because [spoilers]

After the first fic, I plan on writing another fic that focuses on Meta Knight! I won't be going into this for spoiler reasons, but this fic is designed to lead to a little before the events of the first game!

After that, most of the changed games will be put into one fic! I'm not exactly sure how I'd do it (multichapter maybe? Or one big oneshot that has obvious time skip spaces between games?) but it'll most likely end a little before the events of Star Allies!

A lot of this AU was built to define the Astral race (Kirby's species) a little more, but the changes to the games were built entirely of what-if scenarios and "I haven't seen a fic for this so I'll make it myself" things that would better fit the AU instead of the actual plot of the games! It's slightly self-indulgent (slightly because wow I planned a lot of angst for this series), and so far there's only one OC planned to show up and (kinda) further the plot of the series, you might have an idea of what their role is if you checked the Galacta Knight and Magolor interaction post!

I've had quite a while to think about this whole thing (I've been working on the first fic since April. Writer's Block and burnout sucks) some things are subject to change since I'm technically still in the early stages of fleshing this whole thing out, but the first fic is almost done and I already have the whole outline for the second fic ready :3
