Early Yzma sketches by Andreas Deja, from when The Emperor's New Groove was in development as "Kingdom in the Sun". He envisioned her as "a sultry, seductive and power hungry diva", and was inspired by supermodel poses he saw in fashion magazines.

Guide to my Rewrites (and other content)
I post a lot of things, and some of those things are rewrites. As such, I thought this would be a nice guide for fans of my rewrites in particular. I'm still adding new things! Lemme know what you think.
Alternate Takes (Disney)
These are projects that have the same characters and settings (for the most part), but different plot points. These particular alternate takes suggest ideas that would've made me enjoy the movie more (or at all) and aren't a fanfic so much as bullet points with pictures.
Aida
Pocahontas
Hercules
The Princess and the Frog
Tangled
Frozen
Big Hero 6
Moana
Frozen 2
Raya and the Last Dragon
Encanto
Strange World
Wish (Note: This is NOT the extensive rewrite I've been working on, entitled "Stargazer". For that, check out this temporary placeholder: Characters/Setting and Prologue/Opening Song)
I also did rewrites for two Dreamworks movies:
The Road to El Dorado
Sinbad
Marvel
Not quite as detailed as my other rewrites, but I thought I'd include them.
Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness
Thor: Love and Thunder
Reimagining Disney Movies
These are projects that take Disney's framework (ie a fairy tale) and create my own characters, plot, setting, and song titles for it.
The Snow Queen
Kingdom of the Sun
Rapunzel
Extensive rewrites
TV shows that I've remade episode-for--episode, perhaps removing and adding some as I see fit.
X-Men: Evolution--New roster, Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Roster (Timeskip), Season 4, and Season 5
Miraculous Ladybug--Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4 (currently working on Season 5; been dragging my feet with that!)
Wolverine & the X-Men--New Roster, Season 1
Anime as comic books
Yes, this is a topic. I remember when I was in this headspace, and it was really fun. I basically reimagined what if popular anime had been created as superhero comic books that golden or silver age.
Dragon Ball
Naruto
Anime rewrites
Black Butler
Naruto (Part I)
Bucchigiri?! (Pending)
High Card (Pending)
Video Game Rewrites
These aren't quite as detailed as my usual rewrites.
Bayonetta
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Fire Emblem: Fates
Fire Emblem: 3 Houses
Kingdom Hearts
Mood Boards
Just something I've made for fun to inspire others! Not an expert on making them, but it was still something I wanted to do.
My Wish rewrite (temporary)
Disney's Swan Lake
Disney's Hansel & Gretel
Disney's Rumpelstiltskin
Disney's Red Riding Hood
Sub-Saharan Disney musical
Disney Superhero Film
Japanese Disney musical
Actors who could play Disney villains

Please help me out, Tumblr!
I've recently realized that the fandoms I'm in are too small for me to talk about with most people. I've been having HORRID anxiety where I can't even think about my fixations without feeling anxious and insecure. Of course, my audhd doesn't make this any easier either.
Pretty much the only requirements are kinda be around my age (I'm almost 18) and participate in engaging conversation with me (I freak out more if people just listen and don't respond. It makes me think they don't care)
Here are some current fandoms I'm in:
The Emperor's New Groove (the sequel, the show, and Kingdom of the Sun!)
The Hunchback of Notre Dame! (Mostly musical but I'm down to talk about the movie)
ALADDIN. (Literally everything in the franchise. Although, it'd be nice to talk to TV series/musical fans instead of the usual movie fans. I also know too much useless information about this franchise-)
The Great Mouse Detective! I eat this movie UP
I'm also starting to get back into James and the Giant Peach mwahahaha >:3
Sooooo, yeah! Interactions/asks are encouraged! I hope to make some new friends!!

"No touchy!"
Kuzco's design is so eye-catching and memorable(I find myself doodling him in sketchbooks all the time lol), I can't even be mad we never got 'Kingdom of the Sun'. I am however really mad we didn't get the Snuff Out The Light song for Yzma. Really sad this movie wasn't allowed to just bake in the oven a little more because of merchandise contracts :(( fascinating to read about tho

For Fun: Here's My Favorite Disney Songs That Were Deleted/Changed In The Final Film (Part 4)
Tumblr media
"Someday" was meant to be Esmeralda's song in Hunchback of Notre Dame, but was replaced by "God Help the Outcasts" in the final version. It was sung over the credits, however, and both would be sung in the stage adaptation.
youtube
"Shooting Star" was the original "I Want" song from Hercules, but was cut for being "too soft". I could take either or, but "Go the Distance" is still a classic.
youtube
"I Can't Believe My Heart" was Meg's original song. It was cut for similar reasons as "Shooting Star". I definitely prefer the version we got.
youtube
Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the lyrics for Pocahontas and Hunchback with Alan Menken as well as all the music for Wicked, was originally tapped to write the music for Mulan. He left early in production to work on the music for "The Prince of Egypt" at DreamWorks. "Written In Stone" is the only song of his version available to listen to. It would've been in the spot where "Reflection" exists in the final film.
youtube
Speaking of "Reflection", when composers Matthew Wilder and David Zippel joined the film after Schwartz left, they wrote a much longer version of the song. The fact that this version is not in the film is a crime.
youtube
"Keep 'Em Guessin'" would've been Mushu's song as he introduces himself to Mulan, but Eddie Murphy's dialogue worked much better, and made things much more succinct. The song is enjoyable imo, tho.
youtube
Famously, Disney was working on a film set to release in late 2000 called Kingdom of the Sun. It was a sort of an Incan retelling of The Prince and the Pauper, with some magic and gods thrown in for good measure. It was supposed to be another grand musical on the scale of The Lion King, even sharing its co-director, Roger Allers. To match that scale, they brought in musician Sting to write the songs, thinking he'd bring the same energy that Elton John brought to Lion King's songs. Sting and co-composer David Hartley wrote three songs for this version. The first, "Walk the Llama Llama", would've been the opening song. It was to be sung by the main character, Pacha (here played by Owen Wilson), a teenage llama herder who coincidentally looks exactly like the spoiled teenaged Emperor Manco (played by David Spade). The song is Pacha expressing his love for the llama as he herded them. Pacha's singing voice would've been Sting himself in the final film. There also would've been a reprise halfway through the film and at the end, though nothing from these reprises has appeared online. Unfortunately, the only clean version of the song is this country-fied version by Rascal Flats on the Emperor's New Groove soundtrack.
youtube
The second song, "Snuff Out the Light", would have been sung by the villain of the film, Yzma (as played by Eartha Kitt). In this version, Yzma would have been an aging sorceress who hated the sun for causing her wrinkles. She would've discovered that Manco and Pacha swapped, and turned the real Pacha into a non-speaking llama. She would've manipulated Pacha into doing what she wanted. She planned to summon the Dark God, Supai to block out the sun so she wouldn't grow old. This song was fully recorded, and the sequence had quite a bit of animation finished on it before the story changed.
youtube
youtube
The third song, "One Day She'll Love Me" would have been the love song of the film, and been sung by Pacha and the emperor's betrothed, Nina. Pacha has fallen in love with Nina, but feels guilty for living a lie. Nina is starting to fall in love with him, but still believes he's Manco, and doesn't know why he's changing.
youtube
Continued in Part 5!

going back to emperor's new groove as an adult, especially knowing all the bullshit it went through during production, makes me really sad.
like, i probably am not the first to say this, but the writing isn't... great. it moves too quickly. there are spectacular bits, but most of them feel extremely disconnected. they sort of acknowledge some of the bullshit with the "by all accounts it doesn't make sense" line from kronk, but lampshading it doesn't make it any better, tbh.
and seeing the test animations from snuff out the light alone, it makes me fucking mourn for the movie we could've gotten. yzma as a necromantic sorceress trying to take over the kingdom would've been an incredibly iconic and competent villain. but noooooo.
i haven't watched the sweatbox, which is a documentary made about kingdom of the sun/emperor's new groove's troubled production, but i should at some point.
i just wish we had more of that.

Another Villainess Backstory today, this time featuring young Yzma, with her design and some of her backstory details based on bits taken from the Emperor’s New School cartoon. And some from the original Empire of the Sun storyline.
Daughter of the Royal Mortician/Dark Sorcerer and an ambitious woman named Amza. She was close to her father who taught her the ways of magic,  but found her mother overbearing and manipulative--which pushed her to try to outdo her mother at her own games and eventually ousted her mother out of her own job as Emperor’s Advisor and banished her to the far reaches of the Empire
Was incredibly popular in court in her youth due to her wit and beauty and had a ton of suitors
Had a romance with another magician named Huaca who she later turned into a small animate statue--her first transformation--when he broke up with her when he discovered she was doing dark experiments with potions (father of her two children in my Canon Descendants rewrite)
Continued to use her various beaus as magical guinea pigs whenever they attempted to break up with her due to her controlling/terrifying behavior
Eventually she realized she didn't so much want romance as someone who would just blindly obey whatever she told them to do and started hiring henchmen
Has extended her life through various magical means but never discovered the secrets of eternal youth, causing her mummified appearance
She became Kuzco's regent after the previous Emperor was lost at sea, Kuzco's mother having died in childbirth. She was content at first to rule from behind the throne, as the last few emperor's she'd served had been more than willing to hand over matters to her to pursue their lavish lifestyles without bother, but Kuzco proved to be both more obnoxious and more aware of her schemes (to a point) then she was willing to put up with, and his firing her was the final straw.

Make whatever changes you have to, but I need "Kingdom of the Sun," Disney! This epic musical needs to be made.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I imagine they'd have to change names, appearences, and the llama subplot for starters. And the songs (imo) definitely need to be revised--except "Snuff Out the Light." It's a great villain song as-is. I'm not a fan of the "trading places" concept either, but that's just me. I don't mind having a selfish, Kuzco protagonist, but it'd be nice to have someone more sweet/vulnerable like Hercules, Aladdin, or Quasimodo.

(Mata on the left side and Nina on the right.)
I named my OCs after two deleted characters from The Emperor's New Groove when it was called Kingdom of the Sun. In early development, Nina was Kuzco's fiancée and Pacha's love interest, and Mata was Kuzco's love interest.
If you want to know more about these two and their relationship with their family, please feel free to ask in my askbox.

For Fun: Here's My Favorite Disney Songs That Were Deleted/Changed In The Final Film (Part 5)
Tumblr media
Eventually, the Disney executives decided the film wasn't working, and called for a complete retool. Roger Allers left, leaving Cats Don't Dance director Mark Dindal as the sole director on the film. The film became a buddy comedy, road-trip Looney Tunes-esque film set in ancient Peru, known as Kingdom in the Sun, later known by release as The Emperor's New Groove. All of Sting and David Hartley's songs were cut, but they stayed on to write "Perfect World", Kuzco's theme for the beginning and end of the film, and "My Funny Friend and Me' which is the end credits song. However, at one point, Yzma was going to have her own reprise of "Perfect World". About halfway through the film, after Kuzco's fake funeral would've been when this reprise would've taken place. (The fact that Eartha Kitt does not sing in the final film at all is the biggest problem of Emperor's New Groove)
youtube
(If you do get the chance, check out the documentary "The Sweatbox" on Internet Archive. It documents the crazy development of this film, and Disney intentionally tried to bury it as it made their execs look bad. It's very interesting, so give it a watch!)
Tangled and Frozen were both in development for a significantly long time for Disney movie standards. Back when Tangled was called Rapunzel, songwriter Chris Curtis wrote these two songs based on an early draft: "All That I've Done for You" and "Are There Girls In The World Like Me?"
youtube
youtube
For the final film, there was a cut reprise of "When Will My Life Begin" and "Mother Knows Best" was also longer initially.
youtube
youtube
Alan Menken wrote an early song for Frozen called "Love Can't Be Denied" back when the film was called The Snow Queen
youtube
Finally, my personal favorite cut song from Frozen by the Lopez's is "Life's Too Short" which was replaced by the "First Time in Forever" reprise in the final film. I like how the sibling energy feels between Anna and Elsa here.
youtube
That's all the songs I'm gonna cover here, but there are plenty more. Alice in Wonderland had like two movie's worth of cut songs to go through. But thank you for indulging in my wordy nerd posts!
