Kimi ni ha todokanai. 君には届かない。 Ep 2

My Japanese ability is GOING, ffff. I only just realised that there's nothing in the Japanese title that implies ability – it's a statement of fact: "(something/someone) does/will not reach you". What is it listed as on … whatever streaming service has it with English subs?

ANYWAY let's get this going.

Kakeru is so cute with his games and his super rare items and his steadfast belief that Yamato WILL draw something good

I know a lot of folks are very over the "realisation of feelings" story archs, but I really love them, partially maybe because while I did know I was ~different really REALLY early on, I didn't manage to pinpoint any of the reasons (queerness, neurobullshit, you name it) until I was in my twenties, so.

I love the imagination/reality scene

Fujino: Aye. Or rather than a mixer, a middle school friend of mine is now in a girls-only high school and and she wants to hang out with boys from another school. So, I was wondering how about it Kakeru? Scribble: Well, with the way it looks like, you could call it a mixer? sfx: slurp Kakeru: Eh, is it fine for me to go?! Yay!! I'll go, I'll go!! Scribble: That's my first mixer

Fujino: Btw, it would be helpful, if one more came. Do you know somebody who stands out? Kakeru: Then how about Yamato? The one in our class.

I'm docking (very few) mental points for the ending because that felt weirdly rushed, but other than that? love it. I could've done without Yamato going back and forth on the boundary-respecting – I just don't like the "no no no yes" stereotype, and they had Kakeru play to that one too many times imo. but. I wish we could get rid of that trope, and I REALLY wanted Kakeru to initiate at least ONE kiss (or at least for us to get one that wasn't dead-fish-y on his part, I guess), but that's about it for complaints (and I know jdorama aren't big on kisses most of the time anyway).

I'm going to miss this little show!

One downside of trying to single-handedly fix the disaster that is the kimitodo subs is that I have small sections of Hi-fi Un!corn's U & I playing on repeat in my mind, and while I like the song these tiny repeating sections are NOT IT.

(the other downside is that the hyperfixation is keeping me from doing stuff I'm actually getting paid to do or going to bed on time, damn you, zoomies and shiny disease)

I was very, very curious to see where we'd go from the ending of ep 6, and this episode did not disappoint, either.

My running commentary for the first part of the episode was like this:

I'm afraid I don't know – without knowing your location (general location! please do not dox yourselves), I have no idea whether or not you'll need VPN for the sites I've been using. But for what it's worth, I've been using bilibili -- .com and .tv both -- and Dailymotion without VPN, as well as tver (which I do need VPN for) when applicable.

ok after watching kiminai on viki i can conclude that netflix has the best eng sub and video quality overall. then viki. then myasiantv. period.

viki full hd looks kinda grainy sometimes. and who tf in this date and age gives only 720p for a standard PAID subscription?!??!?! and 1080p for only premium subscription which looks grainy as hell?!?! viki you can do better than this!

anyway, viki eng sub quality is not bad, it's just sometimes i find netflix's eng sub translation is better worded and more accurate. so overall netflix is still better.

and don't even mention myasiantv idk where they got their translation from but it SUCKS. big time. don't go there it will ruin your experience and the series itself.
