Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the big day had come. It seemed to Ignatius that he’d been waiting several lifetimes for this, with each passing hour becoming slower than the one before it, but at last, it was here—moving day.

It was something Mapiya and Kohana had talked about for so long. Mapiya and Kohana were residents of the village Fennglade Forest and the kind quail couple who had been generous enough to take in he, Ignatius (or Iggy, as some called him), while he waited patiently (sometimes not-so-patiently) for his parents to come back and collect him.

You see, the previous summer (it was currently early autumn), the lovebird Iggy had been travelling by flight with his parents to their summer vacation home in the Windy Woods and, admittedly not being the best of fliers (to be fair, he had really been too young for such a long journey), Ignatius had struck his wing upon a tree branch and tumbled to the ground below—right into Fennglade Forest, luckily, for the kind animals here had doctored him and taken him in.

Aquil (the most important animal in the village) had sent forth a letter to Ignatius’s parents, but no reply had ever come back—nor did they show up themselves. Iggy guessed they had went on to the Windy Woods and had a fine, child-free summer and would be back for him on their return journey homeward. It was either that or they had abandoned him—and while Iggy certainly hoped the second thing hadn’t happened, the first wasn’t all sunshine and daisies either. It rather hurt his feelings, actually, that his mother and father would care so little about his well-being that they’d do such a thing.

Whatever the reason for their absence, all Ignatius could do was wait. In the meantime, his wing had mended, and he’d very much come to enjoy life in the village of Fennglade. Sometimes, he even felt he didn’t want his parents to arrive and drag him back to their rather boring home in The Whistling Woodlands (so called because a large quantity of birds lived there). Especially on a day like today: the long-anticipated moving day...

It’s the harvest season, and it’s such a busy time! Meanwhile, the newest member of the community, Ignatius, is also learning the ways of the Council. But in his studies he uncovers a few things that seem… odd.
