Hiiii sorry if you’ve talked about this before and I just missed it but like. Thoughts on Nicky and Kevin friendship???? I love them both sooooo much. I like to think they become like genuine, better friends after all the dust settles and just. Idk I would love to hear what you think about them

YESYESYES i dont think ive talked about this before on here i'm pretty sure i posted about kevnicky like a year or two ago but not in the platonic sense..... BUT YES I THINK OF THEM. often and dearly. my thoughts are separated in two different themes so let me try and organize them

first: i think canonically nicky was probably the monster kevin had the best relationship with, his lovehate with andrew and neil notwithstanding. nicky is the person who tells neil kevin and jean were friends and the one who calls kevin family ("we're keeping you just like we kept kevin"), and he's the one who has the most scenes where he's just Existing with kevin, things as insignificant as getting kevin ice cream at the mall and spending christmas together with matt in new york. i think there is something to be said about kevin and choosing to be friends with people who are chirpy and optimistic (namely nicky and jeremy, but also renee)

second: nicky has absolutely called kevin baby cousin before. you already know kevin is the minyard little sister and that he's part of the family, so :-) i think he will continue to refer to kevin as his cousin for years to come, and i think kevin will be silently pleased by it for just as long. he might even slip up and call nicky his cousin to other people, and if he does, you really can't blame him, can you?

Thinking about how badly Andrew must’ve wanted to be known. For someone to actually notice things about him and be curious and piece all these observations together. Like. The truth game was just as much about wanting to know things about Neil as him wanting Neil to know him. And even without the truth game being evoked, when he knows what answers Neil must be digging for, he gives in more often than not. I think about how when Neil started noticing Andrew’s odd memory, especially when Neil believed him not to be paying attention and when Neil started finally asking questions, and how quickly Andrew answered them, how he must’ve been thinking, finally.

How much he wanted to be known and by someone he knew by now he could trust. Someone he knew could understand him and the implications of things he’s told. Someone he could tell his own secrets and things he’s been keeping to himself. Everything he let other people assume or misunderstand about him. This little nobody runaway is paying attention, piecing it together, understanding in a way that no one has ever been willing to do, not even his own twin. And when Aaron and Nicky asks him when this happened or other variations of the questions Neil’s already solved himself, and Andrew tells them they should’ve figured them out himself.

The way Neil was the first person to take him at his word, especially about something that wasn’t violence. To look further into him and the things he says and does and actually try to understand him. Not just write him off as a violent psychopath who does things for his own pleasure. The way Andrew wanted him to see more of him and understand him. And I just. My mind is tangles. But I want to go on about this forever.

Most sports books are like “I need to win championships so I can prove myself!!!” and then there’s The Foxhole Court where the main character is like “yeah so if I don’t win championships I will literally be executed because when I was 10 my serial killer father tried to sell me to a cult so my assassin mother stole $5 million from the yakuza and ran away with me, but it turned out that my dad was friends with the leader of the mafia, so now we also had a bunch of hit men after us, and almost a decade later my dad caught up with us and killed my mom and I faked my death, so I decided to join a college sports team to start my new life, but then I found out one of my teammates is a runaway from the cult my dad tried to sell me to, and not only that but the cult’s leader is the brother of the head of the Japanese mafia, so now both of them are after me too, and also the FBI keeps trying to convince me to testify against my father, but if I do I’ll have to go into witness protection because my dad’s friends will try to kill me and I can’t be a professional athlete while under witness protection, but luckily my uncle (who is the leader of the British mob) brokered a deal that will assure my safety if I win championships as long as I hand over 80% of my salary to the mafia for the rest of my life.” And that’s only the main character, I haven’t even mentioned how insane some of the side characters’ backstories are!

Basically this is the most unhinged book I have ever read and I love it so much

obsessed!! w the idea that the foxes are literally just college students. give me aaron living at the library, class president and head of premed club. give me andrew knowing every sesh spot, nicky with a tie wrapped around his head at a house party. i want neil notorious on campus for being "the mean hot guy", matt dapping up every person he sees, kevin chugging a mickey of vodka to prove to people that he can. and finally allison always getting free club entry, dan being friends with every employee at the school gym, renee blushing in the club bathroom as a group of drunk girls hypes her up. just. college students. absolutely obsessed with the fact that they are simply a group of stupid young adults <3

sometimes i just randomly think about how andrew minyard's 5'0", drugged up ass saw a crippled, pathetic (babygirl) 6'2" exy star begging for help and went "yep, that's a job for lil' ol' me" and proceeded to protect said 6'2" babygirl with all he's got for like the rest of his college years.

The night before Andrew’s first pro game, he receives a box from a company he is intimately familiar with. Pretty pink calligraphy branding the pristine white box with Allison’s fashion logo. It’s a rather large box, and Andrew is expecting the worst, like bright pink pompoms, but when he opens it, there are several neatly folded piles of silky material—armbands.

The first pair in each bundle is a simple black, but as he goes through them, he finds the colors changing, colors matching his new uniforms, colors Andrew would never usually wear but was informed he’d have to during specific months of the year.

At the bottom of the box lay three pairs with a note labeling them “custom.” The first pair was all black, except for a small dagger on the insides of both wrists. The second set is similar in color, except when they catch the light, subtle color shines through. A stupid rainbow. The last set Andrew knows Neil must have had something to do with as they are bright orange and white, tiny little fox paws on the insides of both wrist.

There are two of each pair, thirty pairs total. At the bottom of the box is a note branded with Allison’s logo but also a tiny kangaroo, one that is also branded just above the elbow on every sleeve.
