FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK, a silverVdyne fic ( ch 2/4, 3.3k words )
summary: It’s been months since V brought Johnny back from beyond the Blackwall into his own new, cloned body. Physically, Johnny’s recovered. He goes out and does the odd gig with V. Everything’s going relatively fine for a former dead man. It’s just, now that he’s in his own body, Kerry doesn’t want to see him anymore. tags: mildly antagonistic Johnny and V, emotional constipation of the nth degree, the rattler, canon-typical violence, silverdyne, johnny/v, silverVdyne

Hi! Just wanted to pop in and mention how much I enjoyed your meta on Kendall and Logan. The line “To give it to Kendall is to let him wear that trauma - a trauma he doesn't understand - like a cloak and tell him it’s a gift.” will live in my head rent free from now.
To piggyback off of the idea you mention towards the end of your post on Kendall’s perceived vulnerability – I think you’re definitely onto something there.
Warning – the rest of this kind of long so feel free not to post publicly but – to my read, so much of Logan is grounded in the trauma of losing his family and I think there’s an echo of that in how he understands and reacts to Kendall. Logan is fearful of losing anyone on anything other than his own terms, and Kendall, by his very nature, evokes some of that fear. Kendall is generally understood within the family to be soft and emotional and by extension vulnerable either to substances, his own mind, or being led astray by ‘dangerous’ figures like Stewy (at least in Logan’s way of thinking, rightly or wrongly).
I think this tends to pluck at Logan’s more protective instincts.  But when Logan exercises that protectiveness, it functionally allows his own ‘vulnerability’ to show through. Logan is generally so reluctant to acknowledge the past, his own traumas, and his perceived weaknesses, that revealing those sides of himself, even indirectly, creates a type of unique connection. Logan might see Kendall’s soft bits, but Kendall gets to see Logan’s too. I think that may be part of what drives the relationship we see between them throughout the show and was the foundation for a certain kind of intimacy and emotional reliance in both directions that deepened and grew over time.
Logan trusts Kendall intimately and lets him in in a way that he can’t with his other children because it would require letting them into a softness or ‘weakness’ he may resent or refuse to acknowledge within himself. He doesn’t want anyone to see those parts of him. But Kendall’s own softness inherently brings that out in him and, although not all the time, it does allow a kind of intimacy to live solely between the two of them. I think it’s this very intimacy that allows Logan to trust Kendall with his pills/health and, ironically, makes him a good pick (in Logan’s mind) for sacrificial lamb at the end of S2.
I don’t think the above is the only driver at play (or even that the characters are aware of any of this), but I think it may be a meaningful one. And while Kendal isn’t Logan’s sole emotional crutch, I think he tends to take the full weight of Logan’s love – which I guess is in and of itself a form of violence because that’s all Logan knows how to give.
[As an aside, I’m endlessly fascinated by Logan’s refusal to lean on Shiv in this particular capacity, which arguably might be expected as she’s his only daughter and yet, I can totally see Logan being completely against the idea of his little girl seeing him with any weakness whatsoever. Just endlessly interesting to chew on Logan’s relationships.]
Hey! Thank you so much for your kind words, and I'm so glad you've enjoyed some of my meta! It's such a fun show to think and write about, so it's always very lovely to know that people like to read my thoughts too.
I totally agree with everything you've written here. That shared space for vulnerability and intimacy due to the very specific nature of Kendall and Logan's relationship feels really right, and the way that places a unique sort of love and violence at the heart of their dynamic is it's own sort of devastating.
It's interesting too, because I think in some ways that vulnerability also comes out of their respective relationships with the truth.
I said it in a post quite a while ago, but I find there's this really compelling juxtaposition between Kendall and Roman where Kendall can be vulnerable without being honest, while Roman can be honest without being vulnerable. It's a contrast that I think is particularly unique, and it's interesting to look at that against Logan, because Logan's sort of both and neither.
Which makes sense given Logan's relationship with the truth often feels pretty unique too. Logan as a character never seems entirely honest, but he's not really a dishonest character either. His truths seem uniquely tied to time, and a moment of warm and genuine honesty like him telling Shiv that it's her at the summer palace can become a bitter lie in the future.
For Logan, I think truth and honesty has to be tied to the present, because as he says in the show, there's just too much history. The past can be complicated, it can be twisted, it can be marked by your mistakes as much as your successes, sure, but for a character like Logan, the past is also punctuated by unmanaged trauma. As a result, the past for Logan is something that can't be touched, and I think that in s2 in particular is something Logan tries to teach Kendall, sometimes cruelly and sometimes with the only type of kindness Logan knows how to offer.
After all, we know that for Kendall, particularly in s2 and s3, the past is something he can't stop touching. He presses his finger to the bruise of what happened with Doddy repeatedly, and the secret of it does create this further space of intimacy. Kendall won't know until after his father dies that Logan felt responsible for his sister's death, but Logan will die knowing Kendall feels responsible for Doddy and simultaneously tries to alleviate him of the guilt of that while also using it to keep him close.
In some ways, it's a sort of shared trauma that Logan never lets Kendall know is shared at all, but then doesn't that just sum up Logan's relationships in general?
(And yes re: Logan and Shiv! I think the added factor of losing Rose / blaming himself for Rose too is absolutely key in seeming invincible and infalliable to Shiv in particular, which is another really interesting thing to consider).

Have you preordered Throne of the Fallen? If so please please share the early content! It isn’t available in my country…
So....I didn't pre-order it. Because I forgot about books and pretty much all entertainment with the continuous assessments and papers I have had to work on. 😭
I'll probably go to Waterstones when the book releases (or the soonest I have the time to go) and get it.
I will say though, I really dislike that most special editions for most books these days are so US-centric. Europeans maybe get one special edition and most other regions only really have the choice to pay import duties and wait for ages for their copies to ship. It's annoying.
Although, if anyone who has pre-ordered the book or its special editions and would be open to sharing the content, if you would like, perhaps reblog this post or reply, so anon can follow you. ♥️

Roman/Kerry... you see any potential for grossness there *eyes emoji*
i was talking about this with @janedazey on twitter actually! how roman's obsession with his father extends to whatever his father "touched" and "possessed" and so roman's compassion for kerry, however you want to take it, is also a manifestation of that, of him needing to keep that connection with his father, of him maybe even thinking he could be his father but do it "right", and treat kerry "better" while still kind of satisfying some of his fucked up urges in relation to logan. it's sooo interesting. i hope we see more from that corner.
some folks are saying this was a "play" from roman because he knows/suspects that kerry is included in the will somewhere, because roman was speaking more to logan than the rest of the kids and might be in on some intel, buuut i can't read that moment as purely calculated. roman is clearly in his feelings about his dad and projecting it on kerry but also probably feeling genuine compassion for her. i think we're meant to take his emotional progression at face value; roman may be many things, but we have seen that he can be kind and open and vulnerable. and the episode confirmed it when in the last scene he could not even think of releasing that nasty info about his dad, like he genuinely couldn't stomach it, because his approach is ultimately rooted in love, like he told logan in the s3 finale, whereas kendall had no issue going through with it, because he loves logan, but as he told us last episode, he can't forgive him.

Questions you said??
for Ela: Family, n6; Specific question n2, 10, 22.
for Hawke: Party, n2; Specific question n3, 7 (very important.), 12
for Ankh: Family, n4; Specific question n2, 3 and 8
Too many? in Eric Idle's voice
Tumblr media
Ela:
6 - [Life, I assume?] Which aspects of the culture they were born into holds the most significance for them?
She was a noblewoman, but not a firstborn, so she has spent less time than Fergus studying for perfecting a role of responsibility. Being proud while acting charitable towards who's in need, I would reply. First one coming from her upbringing, second one coming from her religious beliefs - she claims she's not a believer but I doubt you can cleanse entirely from a cult so similar to christianity.
2 - [DA:O] How did they feel about being recruited into the Grey Wardens? What were Ostagar and the Korcari Wilds like for them?
She didn't really want to be recruited, her ambitions were different. Also it wasn't her decision and she fucking hates when she's forced to do something so massive without her consent. It was frustrating, to say the least, so she tried to read into it as if it was her father's last gift to her before they parted ways. An honorable cause for an honorable woman. That helped her to familiarize better with what was going on. Ostagar was terrifying, because she could see everything that was wrong with fereldan society in a smaller scale. The Korcari Wilds were haunting but at least it was a good chance for her to blow off some steam.
Tumblr media
10 - [DA:O] What was their nightmare in the Fade during Broken Circle?
I think I already elaborated on this somewhere else, hold on
Tumblr media
Adding the original post from @zevsurana >here< - I really suggest you to follow them as well, because they always share some quality a++ content 👌👌👌
22 - [DA:O] If your Warden survived, did they continue to serve the Grey Wardens? What is their life like after the Blight?
She survived and she continued to serve the Grey Wardens. Her main goal after the Blight was to find a role within the order's ranks, because she felt like her job wasn't done after all. What happened during Awakening confirmed this, so when the Mother was defeated, she started to investigate more on that, by traveling through Thedas to find more clues.
Hawke:
2- [Party] Which companions (or advisors) are they closest friends with? Who do they respect?
He's super attached to Varric and Isabela, being the ones that constantly offer him drinks and shoulders to cry on. But the real deal is Fenris. The two of them started to talk more once Carver got recruited into the Wardens. Hawke felt like he could really avoid to shoot jokes to lighten the mood in his presence, he became comfortable enough with him to just speak his mind and show - to himself first - that he can allow himself to be serious and sad sometimes.
Tumblr media
3 - [DA2] What was their relationship like with their father before he died?
Actually, I don't think I've ever explored this! O: I think they were close, but there was some resentment because the twins weren't treated fairly. They both had to count bigger responsibilities than their ages combined in one way or another. Carver was being left behind constantly, Bethany was instructed to keep a low profile and act proper, as if they both were nuisances. He was the best teacher, but he wasn't the perfect dad - but who is tho?
7 - [DA2] What did they name their Mabari?
Cane Dog. Just Dog.
12 - [DA2] How did they feel about becoming the Champion of Kirkwall?
Would have been better if a salary came along with the title. It was fine, well deserved, also it provided him free food and drinks for a while. He boasts about it, but in truth he just doesn't care about titles.
Tumblr media
Ankh:
4 - [Life] Describe their family. Who were they close to? Were there any particular childhood friends?
I often talked about her mom and dad, but I never mentioned her inner circle! She has four best friends back home, experienced hunters and overall cuties (except for Fern, Fern is there to look good and somatize). Two of them go back to childhood, the others came along later. I will draw them one day once the chapter is out and about lmao Are step-mothers a thing in dalish culture? Because if so, Deshanna would totally fit that role. Luckily, she's not a Cinderella step mother kinda deal. She was there when Ankh's real mother died, she taught her how to read and behave with other people, and she helped her being independent and responsible for herself and the clan.
2 - [DA:I] What was their reason for attending the Conclave?
To spy on the humans, mostly. She offered to get there to take notes and report back to the Arlathven, as an ambassador. Actually, she wasn't supposed to be alone as she would meet with others to represent her people officially. The clans needed to know if what was happening was a real threat and she was ready to go, along with others from different clans. Another reason would be that she urgently needed to change air because in her opinion the Dalish can be quite shy and selfish when it comes to interacting with other cultures.
3 - [DA:I] How do they feel about bearing the Anchor? For what did they declare the Inquisition stood for?
About the Anchor, she's torn between believing it was destiny, and thinking she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. About the second question, for her I picked "the Inquisition is for all" option. She wants her people to be recognized as equals (socially and bureaucratically), and at the same time she knows that's a slow process that will continue way after she'll die. However, she's trying her best to set an example, being a clever and graceful leader.
8 - [DA:I] What did their Nightmare appear as in the Fade? What was on their gravestone?
Already replied it here💛

I am so sorry for sending like 500 asks a day BUT it must be said your tags about Alison Gordon are completely correct, she literally is such a good character and people are SO mean to her for no reason and it breaks my heart!
Don't ever apologize for sending asks, I love them <3
But for real!!!! Like she never deserves this much hate!!!! So many depictions of her make her adversarial to Lawrence and like a huge Bitch and nothing else. Which just like. Breaks my heart.
Prepare for a long ramble about her, bus especially in the context of Chainshipping.
Like the reality of her?
She is a strong protective woman who cares about her child and her husband and wants her relationships to be valued and she's just trying to do her best!!! Like I'm all about Chainshipping, but like. To make Alison the Evil Bitch who stands in the way of that is hmmm. Not where it's at.
My favorite versions of her (in the context of Chainshiping) is someone who may (or more realistically, or may not!) initially understand Lawrence being gay. If she immediately understands great! More power to her, if she was married to him, she would most likely be the first one to pick up Lawrence is gay. If she doesn't, equally understandable!
Because, (Gasp! A woman side character with complex feelings???) any feeling of being betrayed or lied to when a previously long and lengthy relationship ends because of said partner's self discovery of sexual orientation is an immediate real human reaction, especially within the context of a relationship that has a child involved.
And I'm not saying it's the kind or accepting or most correct instinct, but it's an understandable feeling to have, and Alison, depending on your interpretation of her, is absolutely allowed to have such complex feelings. She's human and complex and allowed to think wrong things and make mistakes.
But, Alison doesn't strike me as a person who would hold that sort of resentment for long. She might be confused at first as to how Lawrence could have claimed to love her (but, deep down, she knows he didn't) and how he could have had a child with her (As, unless you are familiar with hetronormative closeting and family building, it would be confusing!), but she'd educate herself and move on.
She would never want Diana to pick up resentment or hatred of her father from her. She fought and bled and attacked a man bodily to protect her daughter, so why would she ever want to damage her daughter's relationship with her father? She wants the best for both Diana and Lawrence, as well.
She would be, in the end, I think, supportive and happy for her ex's happiness. Like that's literally all she wants!!! She wants Lawrence to have passion!!!! To be happy!!! She literally says that!!!
Tumblr media
She's willing to accept Lawrence's hatred of her as long as it inspires some genuine feelings within Lawrence!!! She wants him to be fully alive and feeling and living!!! She wouldn't stand in the way of Lawrence achieving that!!!
And we, the fandom, forget that about her.
It's a fine line to walk when there's a canon straight ship that 'gets in the way' of a fandom popular gay ship, but please, please, please, everyone. Value and stop demonizing Alison Gordon 2kforever.

A really good choice would have been Brendan Kerry, who got locked out of his own country and was unable to visit for over a year, suffered a serious injury meaning he missed the pre-Olympic Worlds and thus only had one shot to qualify an Olympic spot, then got COVID when he finally did get a chance to go home and see his family, pulled out a CLUTCH performance to qualify the spot, suffered ANOTHER injury where the doctors were like "well the leg could break any time", THEN... 1/2
Tumblr media
He would indeed have been a perfect choice. I completely agree!
In general I think skaters who don't have a big name get pretty much ignored by the ISU in general. You can also see that in the scoring of judges or in their general coverage of skaters on their social media channels.
Thank you for sharing his story!

Arghhh Throne of the Fallen cover reval and overview!!What are we thinking girlll?!
Akfjakfnakfn yes, I saw them both and I can't wait for October 3rd!
The cover is interesting....I was expecting more green, perhaps a bit more ominousness. I still quite like the design, though. Seems like Camilla's flowers dominate Envy's green. (perhaps a metaphor for how she's going to be the dom 💀💀)
And from the overview, it seems we'll get to see more of the world, which I am very happy about! Like yes, give me more about the vampires, the exiled fae, the shifting isles.
"trying to avoid the most dangerous trap of all: falling in love" hehe two these bitches are going tonget hit by a truck lmao 💀💀💀

ice: what do you always get stuck on when writing?
transitional scenes or smut. transitions are such a pain to me, like i just want the juicy stuff. and i just get too in my head while writing smut, it always takes forever.
