FMP: Axis Design Magazine: Children's Time, 2023
Interview with Kenryu Nakamura, Senior Research Fellow at RCAST, The University of Tokyo:
-Pages 44-45- "I think education is a type of design. Even if you teach children in an orthodox manner, I don't think anything will remain in their brains". Talks of case study where a concertmaster started playing his violin after dinner without telling the children in advance. This was met with excitement and cheer, but Nakamura suggests that forcibly taking children to a concert and telling them to behave would have the opposite effect. "By arranging the order of such encounters and giving consideration to the environment under which they take place, it is likely that children will become enthralled naturally in that world". "I think an ideal society will rear children with liberal ideas and perspectives, without being bound by fixed ideas". "The process of making things is packed with elements of basic learning for daily living. Using your hands to make things is also very important". "There is an increasing number of children who lament that there is no place for them at school or at home and feel some difficulty in living. There should be an environment in which each child can be him or herself in a true sense and make the best of his or her characteristics". "When our society becomes a place where each and every child can exist his or her own special individuality, I think the world of making things will become even more exciting".

The Secrets of Digital Exploration and Toys:
-Pages 58-61- Tinybop: The design studio Tinybop based in Brooklyn, US, released it first app product 'The Human Body'. Its paper cutout style animation by designer Kelly Anderson draws our attention, and allows the viewer to become familiar with the function of each organ interactively while understanding the human body systematically through skeletal structure, muscles, internal organs and nerves. pg.58 Plant: Allows children to learn about the ecology of living things in nature and natural phenomena. pg.60 Light and Colour: Teaches children how light is involved in the creation of colour. pg.60 Robot Factory: Children can build unique robots by assembling parts. The point is to create your own story rather than pursuing a single correct answer. pg.61 Despite the fact it is digital, the content assists children in making discoveries on their own. In an app titled 'The Human Body' for example, children are able to find out what goes on in each of the various body parts and organs of the human being. pg.61 "Our apps only have labels that indicate things; they have no letters, characters, or spoken text". -Raul Gutierrez, founder of Tinybop pg.61 The Tinybop app is divided into two categories: Explorers Library and Digital Toys. Within Digital Tools is Robot Factory, where children can build her own robot by assembling parts and the Infinite Arcade feature provides the tools needed to make a video game. pg.61 "The Explorers Library is designed so that children can learn a little more about the world they live in". -Raul Gutierrez. pg.61 "When a movie has iconic characters and a powerful story, it erases children's stories and creativity". -Raul Gutierrez. Tinybop aims for stories that everyone can relate to. pg.61

Peekabook By Matterkids:
Peekabook is an educational toy that provide fun, interactive storytelling and discovery. The child places a physical explorer ring on the iPad screen which is installed with the Peekabook app. By sliding the ring, the child discovers hidden content through a collection of topics including animals, transportation and even an interactive story of little red riding hood. "It was important that the interaction was active. We wanted to make sure that the child was engaged and not passively watching content". Co-founder, Jieyu Yong. pg.62 Doodle By Hyungwoo Lee: Lee was inspired when he saw a relative playing alone during the lockdown. He invented Doodle to bypass this, using a remotely communicable fabric display to regain 'the sense of touch communication', which allows users to draw using their hands. The UX of the display embodies Lee's wish for children to express their imagination and to build precious memories through sharing stories with friends. The act of playing through drawing pictures together simultaneously fulfils imaginative expression and communication. pg.63 Oh My Guard By Jiayi Han, Yuhang Qiu and Yixin Shi: One in every one thousand babies in Japan are born with a birthmark. The Oh My Guard app gives birthmarks an anthropomorphic image and creates a selfie sticker. "Designs for children should not only ensure a basic enjoyment, but should also place an emphasis on their emotional health".

Tumblr media
Everything around her felt oddly warm for someone who was diving head-first towards the concrete of the always busy streets of Tokyo. She couldn't hear the usual chatter of the night-time commuters, either. It was quiet... too quiet.
"(Name)?" The familiar voice of someone she hadn't seen in years flooded her ears, and her eyes snapped open. She was stood in front of a counter, that she easily recognised as the one from her childhood home, with a half-made cup of tea resting on it. Feeling a cool hand place itself on her shoulder, she flinched involuntarily at the memory of being pushed - spinning around quickly and pressing her back into the kitchen counter, the hand fell from its place. (Name) slowly rose her eyes to meet those warm eyes that she had missed over the past six years - those of her mother.
Her mother frowned "Are you okay?" She slowly questioned, walking on egg shells as to not startle her clearly disturbed daughter. An uncomfortable lump formed in (Name)'s throat, averting her gaze to the calendar hung on the wall.
July 9 (2005)
She paused, mouth opening slightly in disbelief. This had to be a dream, or was this what people called life flashing before your eyes? Her brows furrowed 'No, it feels too... real.'
(Name) slowly met the concerned gaze of her mother and smiled shakily "I'm okay; sorry for making you worried, you just scared me is all." Her mother didn't seem the slightest bit convinced and shook her head, placing a plate of buttered toast onto the counter.
"If you're not feeling well, don't go to school, I'll call in sick for you." She smiled comfortingly at her daughter and, in tern, the younger female just shook her head, before the older one wandered out of the kitchen (probably to get herself ready for work). Now, finally left alone, (Name) slid down the counter to the floor, fingers tightly finding comfort in nearly ripping her hair out.
What the hell was going on? Nothing made sense, and her brain couldn't rationalise any kind of reason as to why she was reliving her past in such intricate detail. Every bump and groove on the kitchen counter was very real - not something you would find yourself experiencing in a momentary flash of your life. (Name)'s eyes were once again attracted to the calendar.
July 9 (2005)
The day hadn't changed. She attempted to wrack her brain for any recollection of what happened on this day, twelve years in the past of when she had died. She snapped her fingers, pointer finger pointed outwards as the day came back to her (albeit, lacking a lot of details). Today was the day that Takuya, a boy she had become friends with over the years (him being Takemichi's childhood friend, as well), was forced to brawl for Kiyomasa's "fight club". (Name) sneered at the name, but her eyes widened a fraction.
If today was the day Takuya fought; then it was also the day that Akkun... She shook her head, slowly standing to her feet. She remembered distinctly now - Akkun was arrested for stabbing that brutish idiot, Kiyomasa, during Takuya's fight.
This realisation only aided further in her confusion. Why would she be reliving a moment she wasn't there to witness? If she remembered correctly, she had seen her group of friends off just before the 'fight club' and headed over to the library to get some extra study time in for exams. She wasn't at all present during the fight, or the stabbing, or even the arrest - (Name) was only made aware of it when a sobbing Takemichi practically draped himself over her and, breathlessly, cried out what had happened.
If she was simply remembering her past as she quickly approached the cold concrete below, why would she be reliving an incident she had no part in? She had definitely read enough manga to deduce what this could possibly mean - but she didn't have the courage to actually come to the conclusion. Somehow, (Name) had time travelled. During her unfortunate demise, as she fell rapidly to the ground, she had somehow ended up where she was twelve years ago.
From beside her, the familiar flip phone she owned for most of her teenage years rung loudly and startled her. (Name) had nearly forgotten how annoying these things were. Quickly, she flipped the screen from its place and observed the name on the screen.
Incoming call...
TAKE-CHAN
The lump in her throat became outstandingly more uncomfortable (almost as if it hadn't left since her earlier, awkward, conversation with her very much alive mother) - and the news article she had been reading the day she died entered her mind once more. With a shaky breath and hesitant thumb, she accepted the call and pressed the phone to her right ear.
"Hello?" (Name) called down the phone, quickly pulling it from her ear in a desperate attempt to save them from the incessant screaming coming from the other side. Glaring at the screen, she felt her worries instantly diminish - regardless of the future, the pasts Takemichi was still very much alive, and still the biggest crybaby she knew.
"(Name)-chan, come outside, we've been waiting for forever!" Takemichi's voice blasted through the flip phones speaker. Ah. Right, she used to walk to and from school with them whenever she could. She let out a sigh and snorted.
Grasping the handle of her bag and grabbing the buttered toast from her plate, she pressed the phone between her ear and shoulder "I'll be out in a second, just getting my shoes on." The two exchanged a quick 'see you in a second' before he hung up.
Stop reminiscing on the future...
and enjoy the past a little longer.
⊱ ────── {⋅. ✯ .⋅} ────── ⊰
(Name) wanted to back to the future and simply splat against the cold concrete and let it be over with. As much as she loved her friends, she also remembered how much of a pain in the ass they were (save for Takuya, and occasionally Akkun). The idiot trio (more appropriately known as crybaby Takemichi, nerdy Kazushi and pervy Makoto) just made so much noise on the train that, gradually, the adults around them were growing increasingly annoyed - and being glared at by a traditional looking middle-aged woman for being the only girl in a group of childish boys was not (Name)'s idea of a 'good time'. She found herself glaring back with just as much disappointment - she was a twenty six year old woman mentally, not some fourteen year old who will easily be pressured.
"Can you three shut up?" (Name) hissed out, kicking the backs of Takemichi's knees "You're so noisy." She played with the cute dog keychain on her bag. The train finally came to their stop, and all five of them pushed their way through the crowd to exit - on their way to school.
Silence overcame the group, and (Name) looked over to Takuya "Taku-kun, you've got your fight today, right?" The group of boys halted in their steps at her words, and she stopped as well to look at them. She blinked once, twice, and then paused in all movement.
'Ah, I forgot. They never told me because they knew I'd worry.'
"Who told her?" Atsushi sighed deeply, trying to massage his on-coming migraine. Oh, to be fourteen and probably getting grey hairs from being the 'dad friend'.
(Name) just shook her head "I heard about it; the guys who hang around Shitty-masa don't exactly keep quiet about the fights." She lied flawlessly, looking at Takuya "Be careful, Taku-kun. Please." Averting her gaze, her eyes met with the widened ones of Takemichi. Why did he look... so shocked? Was that relief in his eyes? Odd.
"I will be," Takuya gently smiled in reassurance. (Name) knew it was a lie, of course. In the past, she remembered visiting Takuya in the hospital - having been beaten black and blue before Akkun's inevitable retaliation to watching his friend being assaulted. He flinched a lot after the incident, and visibly shrank away from all forms of physical contact - it fractured the whole groups friendship. Takuya went from quiet to quieter, Akkun went from their leader to some punk in juvenile prison, (Name) stopped attending during their third year, and then Takemichi up and ditched them after middle school. She could feel her heart aching for the two who tried their hardest to maintain the companionship, Kazushi and Makoto.
The group carried on walking, Kazushi and Makoto continuing their boisterousness with the occasional comment from Takuya and scolding from Akkun. Oddly enough, Takemichi remained uncharacteristically silent the rest of the journey. At the school gate, (Name) paused and snatched the blonde by his wrist "We'll catch up to you guys in a minute." Akkun just waved them off and ushered the other three through the gates.
Takemichi looked at her bi-curiously. It wasn't out of the norm for the two to talk before school, but it didn't happen in such an up-front manner. It would usually happen by chance whenever they walked to school together, without the other four "What's up, (Name)-chan?" He questioned.
(Name) just shrugged, pulling out two snack bars from her bag, handing one to him "You just seemed a little quiet, is all. Somethin' on your mind?" She replied, unwrapping the bar and stuffing the whole thing in her mouth. Screw manners, she was starving. He just shook his head with a smile, albeit a lot less bright than normal.
"I'm good!"
She narrowed her eyes at him before sighing, gently rubbing at the giant band aids littering his injured skin "If you say so," She dismissed, grasping his wrist and dragging him with her "now let's go. Class is 'bout to start." And so began the day she dreaded, with an uncalculated plan in mind.
God, she hopes she wouldn't regret this.

Am I the only person here that kind of ships Ken and Ryu from Street fighter . Because they have some very gay interactions , specially on the start of the franchise, at the end of the first of second game , when Ken give his red head band to Ryu , and Ryu uses it for the rest of the games , so yeah just telling you Ryu’s red band , it was given to him by Ken ... so yeah just checking .
