Three Scenes
From the first, Ryu had ridden under Ken's skin. Someone to train with, someone to be with, someone to beat… they all blurred together in Ken's mind.
For Ryu, though, there was only the Art. Technique, expertise, and new methods drew Ryu.
Ken threw himself at life instead of chasing his impossible dream, set himself up as the best street fighter to be found… so long as Ryu wasn't on the list.
Someday, though, someday they'd meet and Ken would win. Whether it was battle or actually making Ryu see there was more than the fight… Ken would win.
He had to, before it tore his soul apart, wanting the unobtainable.

At their very first meeting, Ryu had known that he had found someone that filled a void within. Ken was the perfect complement to himself, gifted and driven. Sometimes, it seemed as if they would always be side by side.
But something… something had changed. Ken had left him for fast cars, easy girls, and wins that brought him fame.
It left Ryu wondering what he'd done, to lose his shadow like that.
Someday, their paths would cross once more. And Ryu would learn why.

After, they sprawled side by side.
It had been so near to an end, with the mind control and punishing attacks they had endured.
"You left," Ryu said softly.
"You had no room for me," Ken answered.
They looked at each other, lying there, shoulder to shoulder.
"Stay if I make room?"
"Forever, Ryu."
